The Hurricane Herald aims to give a summary, both of the activities of the WikiProject and global tropical cyclone activity. The WikiProject has its own IRC channel. Storm of the month  Typhoon Xangsane, known as Typhoon Milenyo in the Philippines was a destructive typhoon that affected the Philippines and Indochina. The storm caused severe flooding and landslides in the regions it affected and was responsible for at least 279 deaths and $747 million (USD) in damage, mostly in the Philippines and Vietnam. Xangsane formed to the east of the Philippines and rapidly intensified, striking Samar Island as a Category 4 typhoon. It weakened over the Philippines, but again reached Category 4 strength in the South China Sea. After its landfall in Vietnam, the typhoon dissipated, with its remnant crossing Indochina and entering the Bay of Bengal. Other tropical cyclone activity

Tropical cyclone scales The various agencies which report on tropical cyclones use a variety of different scales to measure the storms strength. The most familiar of these is the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale and this is the de facto standard in the project and should be used everywhere. However, as it is only official in the Atlantic and East Pacific, other local scales should be used when discussing storms in other regions and given primacy over the Saffir-Simpson Scale. The Saffir-Simpson scale is based on 1-minute averages, but other scales are generally based upon 10-minute averages, which are approximately 15% lower. This table provides a useful-at-a-glance comparison of the various scales currently in use. Further complications arise due to the fact different agencies obtain different estimates for the same storm at the same time, so be careful to use the most appropriate source agency. Ralbot 05:17, 7 November 2006 (UTC) Anthropology projectI have communicated with The Ungovernable Force regarding the proposed anthropology project which you indicated an interest in, and have gotten the OK from him to move the project into wiki-space and make it active. He indicated that he is busy in school right now, but will be as active as he can be given that. The project page as it now exists is only a minimum page, and could use the input of interested parties such as yourself. Personally, I did noticably poorly in the one cultural anthropology class I took in college, so I'm bowing out of this one, but wish you and the other members of the project the best of luck with it. Wiki is still all new territory for me, I usually just chat on forums and stuff of that sort, so I had no idea what I was doing or how to fix it. Oh, and sorry if I again posted this in the wrong section you have so many pages i dont know where to post anything because its all so complicated but whateverr. --MyChemical 19:47, 15 November 2006 (UTC) African military history task forceAnything particular you have an interest into? The Garamantes for example could need an expansion. They ruled the Sahara desert and had some reported wars with the Romans and the Islamic Empire. Due to climatic changes the Sahara today is not as inhabitable as during their reign. The change probably hinderd the Romans from effectively conquering them and thus the Romans did not invade the lands south of the Sahara. Best to describe the Garamentes as cattle keeping ranchers on light chariots armed with bows. They aslo had some irrigation farming and towns, but likely retained their immense wealth from the trade through their territory and kidnapping farmers living in the regions around them. So if you are interested, the current article could be expanded and some meteorological influence on the development of human society added. Just imagine the Romans would have been able to invade Western Africa.
