A message from Curb Safe Charmer

[edit]

Re your revert of my marking the submission of Draft:Levetor prostatae as under review and your edit summary "I think a day is more than enough to actually review a draft", I presume you didn't notice the message I had left for the submitter on the draft's talk page. I am waiting on them for a clarification of the purpose of the redirect, so marking the draft as under review until they reply is entirely appropriate. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 12:13, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Curb Safe Charmer: They've yet to reply, in spite of the ping (perhaps they don't know how to operate a talk page? Not unheard of). Nearly all of the time, when people don't reply for a day, the conversation is over, or in this case, never even started.
And it looks like the redirect was approved, anyway. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 23:45, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request for review

[edit]

Hi I Dream of Horses, I recently came upon a recently submitted article Draft:Ghana women's national football team results and was puzzled by the decline. This list would be too long to merge into the national team article - and there are numerous other articles/lists like this for men's and women's football. Would you be willing to take another look? Thank you. Hmlarson (talk) 06:08, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Hmlarson: I suppose this is one of the rare cases where it'd be justifiable to get another reviewer to look at it by resubmitting without changing anything; however, you should probably do a re-check to make sure grammar, spelling, etc. is up to par anyways. ;-) -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 09:51, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if you knew I was not the original editor/submitter - but am another reviewer. Any objection to me re-reviewing and publishing? Hmlarson (talk) 18:50, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Hmlarson: I was heading off to bed and hadn't noticed. No objection.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:10, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - appreciate you taking another look. Hmlarson (talk) 19:11, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Page mover granted

[edit]

Hello, I dream of horses. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Useful links:

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Thank you, and happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 03:22, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Congrats M! (I lurk at WP:PERM). You should see Wikipedia:Page mover#Scripts. Especially, User:Andy M. Wang/pageswap is very useful. —usernamekiran(talk) 19:37, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

18:39:39, 8 January 2018 review of submission by PaddyNicoll

[edit]

Hi, I've redone my Draft:Row2Recovery page. Having seen how long this took to do properly, I can now see how unsuitable my first draft was! Would you mind looking at it to see if its ready to resubmit? With many thanks,PaddyNicoll (talk) 18:39, 8 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@PaddyNicoll: I must say, it looks much better now! It would certainly be ready for resubmission, and at bare minimum, further feedback. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 19:08, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses: I'm so glad that you think that, it took quite a bit of work which just shows that it was needed. There are a few on the Teahouse chat-room (that you recommended) who have also been a great help and have even kindly done some grammatical corrections. Thank you!!! WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Moving from article space back to draft space

[edit]

Hello! I am new to editing Wikipedia, so I don't really know how things are done yet. In the past few days, when my account was too young to create new articles, I created the two drafts Draft:Mariel Vázquez and Draft:Mabel Gweneth Humphreys. Today, when my account was old enough to perform moves, I moved these articles from the draft space to the main namespace. I noticed that you just moved them back to the draft space. Could you explain why? Was I not supposed to move them the way that I did? Thank you! Mjsupina (talk) 04:59, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Mjsupina: You're technically supposed to put {{subst:submit}} at the top of the drafts if they are actually ready, in your opinion, to be moved to mainspace. This way, someone else more experienced can verify that they are ready, and move them to mainspace. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:07, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses: Okay. So is it the case that every new article should be created this way, and will take months in the review process? Also, am I allowed to review my own article, or is this frowned-upon? Mjsupina (talk) 05:19, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Mjsupina: Actually, your account is now old enough that you can create articles directly, but again, you really shouldn't move or review your own drafts. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 05:26, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@I dream of horses: Got it. Thanks for letting me pester you with questions!! Mjsupina (talk) 05:27, 17 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Questions post-article rejection

[edit]

First, thank you for your review and help. Am new to Wikipedia and couldn't figure out how to leave a message on my own page or would have. Sorry about that.

The message I received was that the topic already exists. I'd like to offer some context and ask a couple of questions. The PLATO computer system (main page) was a product of the University of Illinois' Engineering Department. Other departments developed unique cultures using that technology. The School of Music was one of those unique microcosms.

Had I not linked the PLATO reference to the main page, would that have made a difference in approval?

When researching how the School of Music's projects could be added to the main page, I notice that the organization of that article makes it difficult to see a clear way to incorporate the School of Music's history with the PLATO system. Would the recommendation be to rewrite the main page article to the School of Music efforts could be documented? Would like to preserve the unique contributions to technology-based music education from the School of Music.

Smpmp2 (talk) 02:10, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Smpmp2: It might help to have an eventualist attitude of "incorporate it however possible, and somebody, who may or may not be me, can figure out how to incorporate it better later". Also, boldly rewriting entire article has been done in the past, and as long as it's not done recklessly (ie, you don't remove references, keep the same amount of information, take constructive feedback and the occasional "bold, revert, discuss" cycle, etc.), it should ideally be okay.
Linking PLATO wouldn't have made a difference. I probably would've been able to find that page regardless.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:45, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Got it! I will add a new section to the main page. Does that addition get submitted for review also? So more directly, is the contribution acceptable as an addition to the main page?

Many thanks for your consideration and the information! I appreciate you!

Smpmp2 (talk) 22:56, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Smpmp2: Nope, no review needed for editing an existing article. Just remember to reference.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 02:36, 19 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, IDH, just to let you know I fixed your incomplete feedback request sign here and defaulted it to 1 message per month. In case you intended to register for more, you should now increase it. Thanks. –Ammarpad (talk) 17:12, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Just a thought

[edit]

When someone has a draft marked under review, it's usually a good idea to ask them if they're planning on following up with that review before you un-mark it. Godric was a little confused by one such edit, as they were actively editing the page and planning on reviewing it when you un-marked the page. Cheers, Primefac (talk) 12:30, 23 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Primefac: I unmarked the draft since Winged Blades of Godric had marked it as under review for the last sixteen hours. There seems to be a trend of marking a draft for review and then leaving that way for days (or up to a month!) at a time, which isn't what the template is supposed to be used for. That was what I was trying to prevent. Sorry about the confusion it had caused.  I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 01:44, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Personally I'd say anything less than 24 hours still falls into the "same day", but I do see where you're coming from (I've certainly seen more than a few drafts "under review" for weeks at a time). I guess my point was that it never hurts to ping the user first ;) Cheers, Primefac (talk) 15:51, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

22:09:03, 24 January 2018 review of submission by Tom Vaughan

[edit]

Hi, what am I meant to reference on this article? Tom Vaughan (talk) 22:09, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Tom Vaughan: With an article of that length, we would expect at least one reference that consists of a review. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 00:51, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I saw this message on a wikipedia article I was viewing https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:173.15.162.129&redirect=no

I think you meant to talk to Bongwarrior.

Draft Review

[edit]

Hi!

I was wondering what needs to be added to the page in terms of references for it to be approved, as it consists solely of a translation of the original in Spanish, and includes at the end the original reference (i.e. "Elenco de Grandezas y Títulos Nobiliarios Españoles. Instituto "Salazar y Castro", C.S.I.C.").

Many thanks Maeron (talk) 18:38, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Maeron: Ah, I see that now. Ideally, we would have 3-5 references for articles, so I'll go ahead and find a few more if I were you. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 21:23, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. I just added 3 websites (in Spanish) that mention the history of the title (or part of it). I didn't include the full link, as I think it would look odd, leaving just the internet domain.

Separately, I would add that the "Elenco de Grandezas y Títulos Nobiliarios Españoles" (the original source) is the main information repository for everything related to nobility.

Thanks! Maeron (talk) 19:22, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you so much. Do I need to resubmit for final review when in the Article: Draft section? How will I know if my article was approved or not?

Thanks again!

Linus

@Linusado66: You'll get a talk page notice when the draft gets approved, and yes, that should be done in draftspace. -- I dream of horses (My talk page) (My edits) @ 00:40, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
