Hello HueSatLum!

May I approve this nomination with "seven years" (instead of six) and for the 30th of March 2013?

Also I do not know what to do with "The difference between genius and stupidity is: genius has its limits". It has secured sufficient !votes to be approved, but I'm unsure whether to approve Edit 2, which is my favourite option, or the original.

Thanks in advance and all the best. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 07:36, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(1) Yes, that is fine with me. (2) You may approve any version, but I prefer Edit 2. Thanks! HueSatLum 22:44, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I'm going to approve Edit 2 of the genius/stupidity motto, and I will wait for the consent of Simply South for the other one. Once again, thank you. –pjoef (talkcontribs) 06:39, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me. Thanks for doing this. HueSatLum 20:24, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:31, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 October newsletter

The 2012 WikiCup has come to a close; congratulations to Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), our 2012 champion! Cwmhiraeth joins our exclusive club of previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009), Sturmvogel 66 (2010) and Hurricanehink (2011). Our final standings were as follows:

  1. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions)
  2. Canada Sasata (submissions)
  3. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions)
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions)
  5. New York City Muboshgu (submissions)
  6. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions)
  7. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions)
  8. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions)

Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.

Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talkemail) and The ed17 (talkemail) 00:28, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you review my special nominations (there are two versions) for November 11, 2012 at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/Specials#→ Tout sang coule rouge. All blood runs red.? I thought i'd leave a note because Nov 11 is quite soon. Cheers, benzband (talk) 21:29, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 11:01, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful when reverting blanking

Please see my edit summary here. While IPs blanking content should generally be reverted, there are occasions when the removal of content is valid and therefore shouldn't be reverted. If you're unsure about it, it would be best to check with a wikiproject before reverting. Cheers SmartSE (talk) 13:07, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Got it. (I have never before seen a situation where an IP with no other edits has constructively blanked content without an edit summary!) Regards, HueSatLum ? 16:42, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

hey there !

hi! thank you for answering the edit request -- Talk:Scythians#Edit_request_on_15_November_2012. however, i would like to make one more suggestion, the reference was specifically for the Jats; so i would suggesting ading the reference tag after the word "Jats", rather than at the end of the sentence. would appreciate if you fix that. thank you anyways ! -- 122.173.205.19 (talk) 05:12, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your fix of the Rick Snyder page.

It looks like you removed the edit of the Rick Snyder page which called him a bastard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Snyder

The mobile version of the page still calls him a bastard.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Snyder

I don't know how, so could you fix that, too? :-)

jcrossley@mac.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.230.106.102 (talk) 02:45, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It looks fine now; it was probably affected by a delay in the database, purging would fix it. HueSatLum ? 23:43, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Armenians

Hi Hue, I restored the IP's edit merely because if you look at the change history closely, an image was not being replaced but simply another image being added above in which was a map on the left side. The edit appeared to be a good faith edit and both images were intact. If you disagree with my decision, please let me know. Cheers, Mkdwtalk 22:33, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the IP's placement of images makes more sense. HueSatLum ? 00:33, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

December 2012

This was added to my userpage by Murftown. I am posting it here verbatim as it looked like a question:

Hi HueSatLum. Good to Wikimeet you!

Why did you revert my link on the Mount Everest page? It was a helpful link to a great picture of Mount Everest. I haven't seen another resource that good on the Web for seeing what the mountain looks like. Did you feel that the link was unnecessary or irrelevant? Please don't revert people's edits without a good clear reason and good communication!

Best, murftown

P.S. Hey, I see you're in the Python 2 users group. Nice, I program in Python too!

First of all, please always post messages on my talk page, as I will see it immediately. About the link, I think it is irrelevant because it does not provide a unique resource. There are plenty of fairly large images of Everest: [1]. Also, Wikipedia's guideline on external links discourages direct links to documents that require external applications or plugins (such as Flash or Java) to view the content. If you want, you can bring it up at Talk:Mount Everest and try to establish a consensus there. HueSatLum ? 17:26, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 18th Youth in Film Awards, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page War of the Buttons (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiCup 2013 starting soon

Hi there; you're receiving this message because you have previously shown interest in the WikiCup. This is just to remind you that the 2013 WikiCup will be starting on 1 January, and that signups will remain open throughout January. Old and new Wikipedians and WikiCup participants are warmly invited to take part in this year's competition. (Though, as a note to the more experienced participants, there have been a few small rules changes in the last few months.) If you have already signed up, let this be a reminder; you will receive a message with your submissions' page soon. Please direct any questions to the WikiCup talk page. Thanks! Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup

Hello, HueSatLum, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started and completed the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 12:55, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
