Welcome back
[edit]Welcome back, mate. Is it for real? We need your help with UK Scouting articles. Much has happened. I'll fill you in if you say you want me to. Cheers, --Bduke (talk) 08:28, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Surprised you remember me :) - I'm not sure if I'm properly back... but I figured I'd do some house clearing. If you want to link me some articles, I'll see what I can do - bearing in mind that I am now in Australia, and not currently an active Scouter -- Horus Kol Talk 01:52, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, in Oz like me now. Welcome to Australia. Where in Oz are you? As you probably know I am in Melbourne. I am involved with Wikimedia Australia Inc. if you are interested. I did not forget you, but I noticed you back because your user page was on my watch list along with about 4000 others and it showed up yesterday. Basically the UK County articles are in a mess. There are still some unwritten and few have the quality you added to a few. Articles like Scouting in Royal Berkshire got moved to Royal Berkshire Scout County (The Scout Association). This did not please a B-PSA editor. The real problem is that the list of Scout Groups just got more and more crufty and original research. Almost all edits are by IP editors who just pass by and add, modify or delete a Group with no references. It is just original research. Anyway after a lot of talk there seemed to be consensus to replace them with articles on UK regions, covering all Scout associations but not Guiding. I have been working on this. I started with Scouting in Northern Ireland as the County articles were not just about the Scout Association (SA) but about Scouting Ireland (SI) as well. There had also been targeted by an Irish editor for lack of notability. All those county articles now redirect to the one article. I then did Wales. All Welsh Areas now redirect to Scouting in Wales. I then moved to England. Only this morning I did the merge of 6 articles to Scouting in Greater London. Two other regions are now flagged for merging with discussion at Talk:Scouting in England. That talk page explains what is going on. Scotland has replaced 31 Areas with 11 regions. I did one region article but nobody joined in to help. I will move to Scotland after England. Note that we are using the government regions, not Scouting regions, so Scotland is one region, like Wales and NI, while England is 9 regions. The SA appears now to have 8 regions, above Counties which unlike Scotland are still there, with the same name as 8 of the 9 government regions, but I do not know where Yorkshire and Humberside has got to. There is no keen substantive editor in UK concerned with scouting articles, so I am left on my own here in Oz to do it. There has been many a time when I have said to myself, "I wish Horus was still around". --Bduke (talk) 02:17, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm in Adelaide these days - web-developing, and starting to explore now that I've laid down some roots here. I'll see what I can do about those county articles -- Horus Kol Talk 03:42, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Uk-scouts-county-badge-greater-manchester-west.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Uk-scouts-county-badge-greater-manchester-west.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Merge of South East England
[edit]I have done that merge. Many thanks for your draft. Could you check everything I have done - redirects, images pages etc.? Thanks. You might want to blank your sandbox now as it is a redirect. --Bduke (talk) 05:21, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

River Mole, Bedfordshire
[edit]Hi. About a year and a half ago, you made an edit to the River Mole disambig page, adding a redlink to River Mole, Bedfordshire. I have been editing the River Mole, Surrey article and have a quote which could relate to either the Surrey or the Bedfordshire river. I've tried to find out some basic information about the Bedfordshire river, but have so far drawn a blank. (Google searches and a short visit to the library have yielded no information at all.) Could you fill me in with a few basic facts about the river (start and end points and major towns en route etc) please? Thanks Mertbiol (talk) 19:30, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. After a more extensive search I have not been able to find any evidence for the existence of a River Mole in Bedfordshire. I have therefore removed the River Mole, Bedfordshire from the River Mole disambig page. Mertbiol (talk) 11:29, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User:Horus Kol/Template:Scouting Sections Infobox, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The file File:Jamboree on the Trail 2006.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Specific logo for one event being used on the general article for World Scout Jamboree. As such, doesn't significantly enhance a reader's understanding of the topic, so fails WP:NFCC#8

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
