User talk:Holiday56/Archive 18
Hi Holiday56, can't remember if I pinged you about this before or not, but I'd like to take the subject list to FLC but as you're the only active major contributor, I'd just like to check with you that you're happy about it? There's not much that needs to be done, but I'd give it a thorough going over before nominating it and adding you as co-nominator? Unless, of course, you'd prefer to do it yourself? The Rambling Man (talk) 07:30, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
- (@The Rambling Man: Woops, appears I forgot to ping you when I responded to this the first time around:)
- Wow, I'd totally forgotten about this list. Seems like the article hasn't been touched in quite some time since my last edits. Probably needs some sprucing and tidying up here and there but I'd be fine co-nominating it, I appreciate the invitation. Holiday56 (talk) 10:47, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
- Awesome. I'll take a look later and maybe we can divide up whatever needs to be done before taking it to FLC. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:51, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
- Alrighty, then. I do think the tables could use some reformatting - all those "designed by" portions in each description could maybe be made into a new column, for instance. Will go over the article again when I'm less busy. Holiday56 (talk) 11:05, 7 September 2017 (UTC)
- Update: some downtime did end up opening up for me, it seems. I've edited the list to simplify / standardize the descriptions somewhat, including the creation of the "created by" column (though I think some additional referencing might be necessary for some entries in that column; I can go over those when I'm more free), some dead link archiving and other minor edits. Feel free to go over those edits if anything seems off - thanks! Holiday56 (talk) 12:42, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for December 15
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Protection (Massive Attack album), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Craig Armstrong (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello again. I discovered that the front cover (File:AlwaysOnMyMindUScover.jpg) is actually of US promo materials. It was never part of the commercial releases distributed worldwide. Q regarding EPM
[edit]I've noticed that when you add/format reviews cited to the Encyclopedia of Popular Music you don't include page numbers. Why not? I have been including them when I cite reviews from there and I wanted to get a better understanding of whether this was a good idea or not. Every Morning (there's a halo...) 04:42, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
- I get my cites for the Encyclopedia of Popular Music primarily from Google Books but since the page numbers aren't actually printed on the digital pages I'm not entirely certain of whether the page numbers indicated in the URLs are accurate, especially for quite a lengthy book (seemed weird to me that Paula Abdul, for example, has a page number of 1968). It's more a matter of playing it safe given that I can't personally verify the page numbers for myself. Holiday56 (talk) 15:58, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

The Queen Is Dead
[edit]Hi, I see you removed the deluxe edition Metacritic score from The Queen Is Dead. I reverted this, but if you really have an issue with it being included, please bring it up on the talk page. I think the article has a few editors watching it, and I'd be intrigued to know if others, who might not have noticed whenever the score was added in by whoever did add it, actually agree with it being there. Thanks. Ss112 18:19, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
- Fair enough. I indeed have reservations about its inclusion in the box (it doesn't feel like a wholly appropriate overview of the cited reviews in the box) but as it is now I'm not that particularly bothered enough to start a discussion about it. Should anyone else start one I'd be open to throwing in my two cents. Holiday56 (talk) 11:33, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Question
[edit]I have been figuring out how to format the two Entertainment Weekly reviews in the album ratings template on Farmhouse (album) for a little while now, but I'm not sure how to get it to look right. If you could take a look at the two reviews in the template in question (one by Hermes and one by Brunner) and format them in the right way I'd really appreciate it, because it looks weird having to squeeze the authors' names into the template to tell the reviews apart. Every morning (there's a halo...) 18:28, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
- Since both reviews were published around the same time for the meantime I've simply merged them as "B / B+" in the same row; I think users can put together that they're two separate reviews from viewing the links. If that doesn't suffice then I think sticking to one review would be an acceptable option; the Brunner review appears to be the "primary" review (compared to the other brief rundown of all the band's records) so it seems like that might take precedence in this case. Every Man and Woman Is a Star
[edit]Hi. You've updated the redirect back to the incorrect use of a capital "I" for the album title - it should be "Every Man and Woman is a Star". I tried to update this previously but some tech issue meant I had to add (album) which I then intended to delete but which I was unable to do (I kept getting a message about already existing).Londonclanger (talk) 17:16, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- I meant to add that this is how the band spell the album on their site - http://ultramarine.uk.com/Every-Man-and-Woman-is-a-Star - Londonclanger (talk) 17:21, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Londonclanger: Hi. While the title might be listed that way on the website MOS policy is clear that we don't mandate strictly adhering to how a title is stylized by the artist in terms of capitalization (case in point: stylized names rendered in ALLCAPS, acronyms excluded, are titled with only the first letter capitalized: see Børns, Banks, Kiss, etc.). In the case of this album proper capitalization prevails and "Is" (being a verb) is capitalized as it should be. Holiday56 (talk) 17:21, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Christgau reviews
[edit]I have been wondering this for a little while now: is it considered inappropriate to include Robert Christgau reviews in a ratings infobox if the grade was a dud or neither? For instance, you recently removed a dud review that I added to the ratings infobox on Blind (The Sundays album). So I want to know if you, or WP:ALBUMS as a whole, thinks it is inappropriate to include them; I have a hunch that you consider it inappropriate to include Christgau reviews that aren't letter grades in infoboxes, but I don't really know. Everymorning talk to me 22:46, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure if a strict guideline is set in place for it but I do shy away from using the special grades on the principle of reader comprehensibility (general readers unfamiliar with Christgau's rating system will likely have no idea what a bomb ("dud") or a pair of scissors ("choice cut"), for instance, are supposed to mean). In which case I find that those ratings are better off being moved to the prose where they can be supplemented with an explanation of the rating. Admittedly I haven't always been entirely consistent on this matter but at least as of late my general take is to stick to more common letter/numerical scoring systems when possible. Holiday56 (talk) 04:45, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
Would you like to weigh in this discussion regarding AllMusic should be in infoboxes over other publications. Only if you interested. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 23:03, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
