Hi, I am the subject of the wiki page. I added what references I found that supported what I added as well as some personal information about my family. Thank you. -Dan Grabauskas - — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thos02139 (talk • contribs) 07:54, 15 October 2012
Use of templates
Hi, Hirolovesswords. This edit cannot be considered WP:VANDALISM. Please refrain from adding vandalism templates to an editor's talk page for disagreements over style or content -- as you did here. In fact, when dealing with experienced editors, the general use of templates is frowned upon. You will get a much better reaction by adding a personal note and discussing any disagreements. Good luck with your further editing. — CactusWriter | needles 22:02, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Greetings
Excellent writing. I thought you might like to have these templates. I keep them on my user page and use them to format the references. This way whenever Wikipedia decides to, say, put the publication name in bold or move the date in between the title and author, it can change all one million by just changing the one template. It also formats the url so it is invisible and connects it to the title. As you can see I have added a few to your excellent articles.
- <ref>{{cite web |url= |title= |accessdate=2024-11-13 |quote= |publisher= }}</ref>
- <ref>{{cite journal |url= |title= |author= | journal = | volume = | issue = | pages = |accessdate=2024-11-13 |quote= |work= }}</ref>
- <ref>{{cite book |author= |coauthors= |title= |year= |publisher= |quote= | url= |isbn= }}</ref>
- <ref>{{cite news |author= |coauthors= |title= |url= |quote= |work=[[Boston Globe]] |date= |accessdate=2024-11-13 }}</ref>
Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Hirolovesswords! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 17 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 271 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

No user page
I think it might be a good idea for you to create a user page. I saw that one of the edits might identify you as an admin, so this is just an idea for you not to be singled out by anybody. I'm not actually an admin, but I know that qualified ones should stay on Wikipedia. mechamind90 19:43, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Articles for deletion nomination of Al McClellan
I have nominated Al McClellan, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al McClellan. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ash (talk) 12:44, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
The article Jeremy St. Louis has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- BLP unsourced since its creation in February 2007, yet another person who is of marginal notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 19:14, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Ray Turnbull (curling)
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Ray Turnbull (curling). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ray Turnbull (curling). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:11, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Please do not add or change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did to Joseph James, Jr.. Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. TJ Spyke 21:39, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
The article Andy Jick has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unsourced since 2008; there are two links but one is dead, and the other doesn't lead to anything about the subject that I can see. Notability therefore unclear.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SlimVirgin talk contribs 08:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Frank Fallon (Boston sportscaster)
Hello Hirolovesswords, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on March 29 2010, Frank Fallon (Boston sportscaster), has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Zoomzoom99 (page has mainspace links, and 5 edits). This has been done because the page is either pure vandalism or a blatant hoax (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "{{hangon}}
" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:Zoomzoom99. Thanks, - SDPatrolBot II (talk) on behalf of Zoomzoom99 (talk · contribs) 11:15, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Scarlett Johannson
Please do not go about removing the alt text from images. This is an intergral part of the accessibility for vision impaired persons and your removal is inappropriate. Wildhartlivie (talk) 05:55, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Please stop cutting alt text content on this page. The page passed good article scrutinization with the text intact. It was considered appropriate and it does not help the reader to be told it is "Scarlett Johannson" without a description of how the image appears. The text should be sufficient to allow the visually impaired reader to visualize the image. It is not helpful to say "This is Scarlett Johannson and Michael Caine". One must assume the reader does not know what the two look like. You are cutting that ability. Again, please stop. Wildhartlivie (talk) 06:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
The article Bob Gallagher (sportscaster) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails WP:RS, uncertain notability, may also fail WP:BLPPROD, although it is unclear if he is still living.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. IronGargoyle (talk) 17:06, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Doug Brown (sportscaster). The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
The article Doug Brown (sportscaster) has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. You are now a Reviewer
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Joseph Patrick Kennedy II. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Deletion of Green Party Candidate on Special Senate Election MA 2013
As a citizen of the great commonwealth of MA, I believe all candidates and potential candidates for any electe office regardless of political party. I mention this because even though Jill Stein is a potential candidate for the Green Party for the soon to open senate seat held by Senator John Kerry, and I referenced an article to back this up, you deleted her and I will continue to put her up because I believe the monopoly of the false two party system will not be used on here to suppress minority parties. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.138.178.26 (talk) 05:13, 30 December 2012 (UTC)

My entry highlight a serious statement made by a globally well respected personality Linus Trovalds, against the subject Ortiz. Keeping in the neutral point of view required for all Wiki entries, this statement by Trovalds should be available for public on Wikipedie. Request you to undo your deletion of my entry. Need to stress that G+ post on the official page of Linus Torvalds does involves claims about event directly related to the subject. The subject in discussion is "Aaron Swartz prosecution and suicide". Aaron Swartz is a computer programmer. It is to be noted that Linus Torvalds is one of the world leaders in computer programming and so his statement is a matter of importance in this article.Prodigyhk (talk) 16:53, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
Student newspapers
Hi, Hiro: In an edit summary to Carmen Ortiz, you wrote "Student newspapers are not reliable sources." What? Can you substantiate that? It's generally not accepted, and student newspapers are cited all over Wikipedia. Like local resource (vs. national), college newspapers often have the opportunity to pursue stories at a different pace, and also often have special access to sources not generally avaialble. I'm biased on this point, but I don't think your statement is legit. Can you support it? Thanks. jhawkinson (talk) 05:27, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- Reliable sources are published materials with a reliable publication process or written by authors who are regarded as authoritative in relation to the subject. While some student newspapers may meet the first qualification, the one question [1] does not as the article's capitalization ("...residents of the bay state..."), factual ("Markey, a Democrat who has represented Massachusetts' 5th district since 1976..."), and grammatical ("Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA) is currently the only person to have officially declared candidacy for the 2013 Special Elections") errors make it's reliability questionable. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 05:58, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- It's one thing to question the reliability of a particular source, but I don't think your answer address the general issue. In the future, please don't tar the entire category (student newspapers) if your gripe is with one publication. It's certainly not the case that newspaper reporters in non-student media publications are "regarded as authoritative in relation to the subject," as general rule. Some may be, but most are not. I think you will find that questions of style (capitalization), fact, and grammar occur with similar frequency in non-student publications. Anyhow, my request is for you to be specific rather than general. I haven't personally evaluated this particular source and I cannot speak to its reliability, but I worry. Thanks. jhawkinson (talk) 18:11, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Matthew White
Please be advised that Matthew White expressly does meet WP:NBASKETBALL - "1.Have appeared in one game in the original American Basketball Association, Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto, Euroleague, National Basketball Association, National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (United States), Serie A, Women's National Basketball Association, or a similar major professional sports league." White spent over 10 years in the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto (Spain's top league). I expressly noted that he met this guideline in the edit summary. Please consider revoking your AfD in light of this. Several people are adding to a hastily-created article so have patience. Rikster2 (talk) 21:09, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for your article about Samuel Hawkes - and catching the is-->was edit for the house. I checked the Special:WhatLinksHere/Samuel_Hawkes and found that there wasn't one article that linked to Samuel Hawkes... and then used find link tool to see if there were instances of his name in other articles, but found two other Samuel Hawkes.
I then added him to List of people from Saugus, Massachusetts, but it would be great if there were additional links to his page from other articles (notability, visibility). Do you know of other articles he might be added to?--CaroleHenson (talk) 03:58, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Ulc confusion.
Hey Hiro, before we get into an un-doing war, I want to provide evidence for the change I made to Conan's page. The Universal Life Church Modesto is the Universal Life Church with a Wikipedia page. The ULC Monastery, the church that ordained Conan is a separate entity. The two websites are at the following Web Addresses:
ULC Modesto: http://ulc.net/
ULC Monastery: http://www.themonastery.org/ (The video of Conan getting ordained is on their homepage, and their site is in the video, not the ULC with a Wikipedia page.
(I am a huge fan of Conan, and the episode in question was one of my all time favorites, and I just want to make sure that credit isn't going to a different ULC.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimmydeandean (talk • contribs) 17:10, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Categorization
If you categorize a person article by town or city like you did here[2], you must remove the county category. 'People from Essex County, Massachusetts' in that particular case. Here is a recent talk page discussion[3]. Consensus is that a person doesn't get placed in a parent category and one of its subcategories though if a person lets say had lived in multiple subcategories of the same 'People from Foo County' categories', the person can be categorized by each of the subcategories but not in its parent category....William 12:38, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Also 'Town Managers of Saugus, Massachusetts' is a subcategory of 'People from Saugus, Massachusetts' not the category 'Saugus, Massachusetts' itself. It is well established precedent that 'Mayor of Foo' are subcategories of 'People from Foo'. Therefore all the Saugus city manager articles are overcategorized and I removed the 'People from Saugus, Massachusetts' category from them....William 12:56, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Town Managers of Saugus, Massachusetts do not have to reside in Saugus. It should not be a subcategory of 'People from Saugus, Massachusetts'. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 19:24, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- If they're not from Saugus then, they shouldn't be categorized 'People from Saugus'. And if they are, then its overcategorization. The People from 'Saugus' are going to be removed....William 19:43, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Some of them are. Those should be categorized as 'People from Saugus, Massachusetts' and 'Town Managers of Saugus, Massachusetts'. Some of them aren't. They are only categorized as 'Town Managers of Saugus, Massachusetts'. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 19:58, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Article Feedback Tool update
Hey Hirolovesswords. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.
Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 22:08, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Tendentious editing
First you delete material because you misunderstand or failed to read wp:youtube. Then, you change your reason, and refer to Wikipedia:NOTDIARY, which you either didn't read or misunderstood. Please only use it for situations of the ilk it refers to -- such as "Not every match played, goal scored or hand shaken is significant enough to be included in the biography of a person." Don't conflate it, due to you first failure, to engage in tendentious editing to delete material that is nothing like that, but in contrast has entire articles devoted to it by high-level RSs.--Epeefleche (talk) 07:55, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Herbert Tuckerman's Harvard Club
Hi. I am Herbert Tuckerman's son and a newbie when it comes to editing articles on Wikipedia. As far as I know, my father was a member of the Porcellian Club at Harvard and NOT the Hasty Pudding. A corner of our living room was dedicated to his collection of porcine knickknacks collected from various sources as tribute to his membership. Now, my father was a somewhat secretive man and I can imagine an unlikely scenario wherein, having been humiliated by being refused membership in the PC, he simply lived the somehow face-saving lie that he had been a member. As I say, this seems to me EXTREMELY unlikely, but would be the only imaginable possibility that I am misinformed on this matter. Should you have evidence to the contrary, I and the rest of my family would be very interested in seeing it!

Toronto Argonauts coaching source
Hello,
I've been working on the Toronto Argonauts page and after some discussion on talk would like to move off the management list (or at least the coaches) and rely on the relevant subpage. The problem is I can't source anything on the coaches prior to 1907. The team list only goes back that far and there does not seem to be anything else available. About five years ago you posted the info in question (diff). I know it's been ages but do you recall your source? Thanks Dontreadalone (talk) 21:44, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Edits
Actually, I feel the edits do qualify. The article states: "College athletes and coaches are notable if they have been the subject of non-trivial media coverage beyond merely a repeating of their statistics," Mr. McCormick is a notable businessman. He has received significant media coverage as result of being a businessman. You can find this coverage within the sources in the article. Mr. McCormick was frequently covered in the Boston Business Journal. Furthermore, as I write, his company, invested in Constant Contact and Boston Duck Tours. In my opinion, Mr. McCormick's unique attributes of being a lacrosse star, business mogul and gubernatorial candidate qualify him as notable. Please consider. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Running12345 (talk • contribs) 04:39, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Richard Feilden
FYI puffery is "Words ...used without attribution to promote the subject of an article, while neither imparting nor plainly summarizing verifiable information." Considering the information about Feilden's father and uncle and the information about Feilden's "greatest achievement" were cited to/verifiable in reliable newspaper sources (and greatly abbreviated versions of the actual texts) it seems counter-productive to remove them. As you've probably seen, I've added back and reworded the statement, or rather I've used the exact words of the article. Surely the purpose of Wikipedia articles is to describe the subject's important achievements? Sionk (talk) 01:43, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
