Hi I am new as far as editing with wikipedia. It is my understanding I have to add with my own words? Just wanted to be clear. Seems as though my edits are being retracted. Wahdanomar (talk) 16:20, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Wahdanomar and welcome to Wikipedia. I suggest you read over the links I have left on your talk page. Wikipedia has very strict copyright rules and the content you are adding is both promotional and copied directly from the schools website. Can I ask if you are connected to this school in any way (such as intern, paid employee, volunteer, paid by a third party)? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 16:22, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

I was a student there graduated 2004, was trying to update the information. They seemed to have a transition and changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wahdanomar (talkcontribs) 16:45, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Wahdanomar, ah okay. It is very kind of you to try and keep Wikipedia updated but as a new editor, there are probably some rules and policies you are unaccustomed to. As with any academic institution, copying and pasting text from a website is not allowed. You are encouraged to add this information in your own words and with preferably third party sources. I know this can seem overwhelming but Wikipedia has a page that explicitly lays out good sources to use (WP:RS). You may also want to complete the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can also visit the Teahouse to ask questions or seek help. DYK for Doris Bergen

On 12 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Doris Bergen, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Doris Bergen holds Canada's only endowed chair in Holocaust history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Doris Bergen. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Doris Bergen), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Subhra

Hi, Thanks for cleaning up Subhra, I think the socks are related to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Subhrakant sahoo. also User:Houaiiui67846 was only blocked for three days. - Scio c (talk) 03:37, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Scio c and thanks for the comment. I'll add these users to the SPI. I think Alexf was being generous with a three-day block but I am sticking with my indef until they can prove they are WP:HERE. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:39, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I'm not sure he was aware of the socking, I mentioned it in my AIV report and was surprised with only a three day block. Also SK, SKP, SRK (disambiguation), were hit earlier, there are quite a few more accounts and IPv6 addrs involved. I should have added this to SPI earlier but it's not something i'm really familiar with. - Scio c (talk) 03:47, 16 September 2019 (UTC)
@Scio c:, I wasn't aware of the socking either, so thank you for pointing me to this SPI. On that note, don't worry about not being familiar with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations. It's kind of a weird, niche area with limited players in it. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 03:51, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

User:KansasLCMS

Earlier today you blocked this user, commenting "Promotional username, promotional edits." I believe I'm not allowed to formally appeal a block on behalf of another user, but I would nevertheless appreciate it if you would reconsider this block. KansasLCMS' sole edit doesn't strike me as self-promotion, consisting of a few statistical updates and some grammatical/wording improvements. Unless there's a second edit that has since been deleted, I don't see anything that falls afoul of WP:PROMOTION. I'm guessing your concern was less promotional (spam) editing than COI editing, but even then, I'm not convinced that there is actually a conflict of interest. KansasLCMS could very well be a lay LCMS member from Kansas, rather than an employee of the LCMS' Kansas District. Even if the user is an employee of the district, I wonder if a warning about COI editing might perhaps be the best first step. Regards, Bnng (talk) 21:14, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi there Bnng and welcome to my talk page. I first want to say I completely understand your POV. I would get annoyed sometimes too if I was having a constructive conversation with someone and an admin blocked them for a promo username. However, I have come to understand that they still need to abide by our rules and policies. The actual block is for both promotional edits and a promotional username. Accounts must only be operated by one person and their username is solely a reference to Kansas District of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, which is clearly multiple people. If their username was even JaneDoeKansasLCMS that would be a different story, but it wasn't. If they agree to a new username, and to properly declare their COI, they will be unblocked. I want to say we need more people like you on Wikipedia, who assume AGF and are willing to go to bat for new editors. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 21:26, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
HickoryOughtShirt?4, thank you for the quick reply. I suppose I'm still not convinced that their username must be understood as a reference to the district, rather than simply to the LCMS' presence in Kansas, but I won't argue the point any further. Would you mind adding an explanation on their talk page (e.g., Template:Uw-softerblock), so they understand the reason they were blocked? Thanks for your (by the look of your contributions, apparently indefatigable) zeal in fighting vandalism on Wikipedia. Bnng (talk) 22:34, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

DYK for Ralph Henry Gabriel

On 18 September 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ralph Henry Gabriel, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Please help

I'm sorry I am trying to delete the account details as much a as possible in accordance to Ashley's longs wishes as she no longer works in the adult film industry and is trying to remove the data as there was a lot of personal information that had made it on their and she wishes to get it removed a much as possible as she now has a young family and does not want a page based on her Oldbrook life. Can you help?? LocalKnowledge1234 (talk) 17:05, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

@LocalKnowledge1234: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. You clearly have a direct conflict of interest with this subject so you should not edit their page directly. Wikipedia is not censored and sourced, neutrally worded material is kept in articles. Her being a porn star was a major part of her life, this is not going to be removed simply because the subject doesn't like it. Please understand the article subject does not own the article. You should make WP:edit requests on the wp:talk page and declare your conflict of interest on your user page. I suggest also reading Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Help after reading our conflict of interest policy page. If you continue to remove content from her page, which is becoming disruptive by the way, you may be blocked. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:06, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

Is there any way this page can be removed as it was not a large part of her life, it was at most a couple of years of a forty year life and a fictional character. All we would like to do is remove personal details if that is possible. LocalKnowledge1234 (talk) 17:27, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

LocalKnowledge1234 The problem is you are removing the details that make her notable. In order for a page to be deleted, you should attempt to nominate it for articles for deletion. This is a process where the Wikipedian community gets 7 days to come to a consensus (not a vote!) about if a page meets our notability criteria or not. You would specifically be focusing on the criteria of WP:ENT for pornographic actors and models. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:28, 19 September 2019 (UTC)

You may wish to revoke talk page access.--Cahk (talk) 10:16, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Non stop ruining heritage of other nations on the encyclopedia:

Dear Sir;

Kindly please see Arab cuisine history page, a user with the name of Sarah Canbel is systematically Bedouin-izing and Arabizing other nations ancient heritage and countries. She insists on putting Egypt and the Levant under Bedouin cuisine category! [1]. She also insists on removing Coptic national dishes. Her account old history is literally based on wiping off nations' heritage on the encyclopedia and Arabizing everything they own, literally everything for her is Arabia (cuisine, arts..etc) as if all the neighbouring nations didn't exist before speaking arabic and never ever owned heritage of their own, this seems very suspicious and racist. She even rejects adding the category 'North African Cuisine' along with 'Middle Eastern' to the page, eventhough the page has many North African countries listed, she's passing them all under the Middle East cuisine category even though they aren't Middle Eastern nations. Kindly please help and thank you Sir. Foodiebest (talk) 22:10, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi there Foodiebest and welcome to Wikipedia. As a newcomer to Wikipedia, you probably aren't aware of a very important policy called Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. What this means is that if someone reverts you, or you revert them, instead of continuing the cycle you should discuss it. I see no conversation on Talk:Arab cuisine or Sarah Canbel talk page. This would be the first place to start. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:44, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Thank you and done Sir! My point was putting false things on the encyclopedia pages is a sign of dishonesty and misleading its readers and should be warned because not many people from these countries are revising these pages. I thought i should seek help from the administration to investigate editors with an obvious political agenda. Foodiebest (talk) 14:21, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Question

@HickoryOughtShirt?4:

Hello! Sorry if I am messaging you in the wrong place but I am new to Wikipedia. I was not aware of the guidelines surrounding editing a Wikipedia page of an organization that you work for. The information was outdated and I was instructed to make edits as we just went through a rebrand. Edits such as: - Updating our CEO, headquarters, logo, website, products and overall messaging.

If this is an issue can you please let me know how else we can update our page?

Hi Megbrennan and welcome to Wikipedia. I want to be very clear here that no one owns your company page and you do not have a right to dictate what is written on it. In saying this, your best bet would be to walk away. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website. Secondly, you must declare your conflict of interest on your user page (followWP:DISCLOSE) and use WP:Edit Requests on the articles talk page (as Roxy has said before). This is the only way the community is comfortable with COI editing. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:16, 24 September 2019 (UTC)

Defamation on wiki page Chad Frazier

This article written is showing false reports made on this arrest. All charges were dropped and dismissed regarding this case but there is no article to verify that, only court documents available. The webmaster for this article has been contacted also. Asking that this be removed from this wiki page. Thank you

On April 17, 2014, Frazier got into an altercation with an unidentified female and threw a laptop across the room at her. Later, he became violent and pushed her against a bookshelf and tried to pin her to the ground, punching her several times. He was later charged with third degree domestic violence.[4

Crenshaw, Solomon (June 5, 2014). "UAB point guard Chad Frazier arrested, charged with third-degree domestic violence". The Birmingham News. Retrieved June 11, 2018. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ointment05 (talkcontribs) 11:24, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
Hi Ointment05 and welcome to Wikipedia. I think that an incident that causes someone to be suspended from a team is worth mentioning on their Wikipedia page. Of course, adding charges were dropped is important too. I do not think this counts as defamation and you admit it is not false as he was charged. What I think is important here is that you declare your obvious conflict of interest (as asked 3 times on your talk page). HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 11:57, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

The report made on the article about being charged and throwing laptop, pushed against bookshelfs, etc are from a false police report. Charges were dismissed because of that reason.

There was no suspension made from team or school. This player was granted his release at his request after the school decided on no suspension.

None of the sources state it was a false police report but I have removed the laptop throwing etc. I still think this deserves WP:DUEWEIGHT. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:05, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Amberdometer and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you so much for sending me these sources. One of the most important policies on Wikipedia is verifiability. Please be bold and always include your sources, especially on biographies of living people. The article itself is already terribly sourced and I removed text that was just promoting him on iTunes. If you want to re-add the text, please remove mentions of iTunes or anything that seems not neutral. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:00, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
