Crime fiction vs. Mystery
[edit]I noticed you changing the category from mystery writers to Japanese crime fiction writers on several pages on my watchlist. None of these people write crime fiction; they are mystery writers. (The difference, in my mind, being that crime fiction is realistic and mysteries are not.) I'm not sure if there is a Japanese mystery writer category, but that would be a better fit that crime fiction; the traditional mystery is still very popular in Japan, and is a distinct genre from crime fiction. Your thoughts? Doceirias 05:22, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed, that's somewhat controversial issue: crime fiction vs. mystery. I'm not sure that the difference is what you suggest, that is realism vs. fiction. Rather it is Commonwealth vs US terminology plus old vs new terminology. But if you sure that in Japan the distinction is very clear cut please do create Japanese mystery writers category and reclassify the writers. In any case, I have noticed that many Japanese writers of the genre are not classified as such (be that mystery or crime), so if you know of such instances, please include them in either category. Henry Merrivale 05:45, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- I was probably over simplifying. I just meant crime fiction is like The Wire (TV series) and mystery is Sherlock Holmes. I added whatever names I could think of, which wasn't a lot, and moved a few people around according to my grasp of their work. But one of those people was a horror writer, and another a ninja novelist, so the categories have both ended up fairly empty. Doceirias 06:45, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wow, the more I like, the bigger the mess these categories are. Any clue what the difference between Japanese novelists and Japanese writers is? Doceirias 06:50, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- At least there is no category japanese fiction novel writers:) I agree, it's quite confusing to have both novelist and writers, but some by-nationality have even blah-blah fiction writers. But it's more logical about classification within, as long as a writer has at least one novel/story/manga whatever that falls into the category it's OK to classify him/her as such no matter the rest of the output. (At least that's my understanding of categorization guidelines). Fairly empty categories it's no worries, I will definitely add more in crime fiction one soon. Henry Merrivale 08:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
New category
[edit]I is a shame you call you new categories "Crime fiction novels" etc this seems out of keeping with the "Crime novels" category is links with. The "fiction" element is largely redundant. Otherwise welcome to the article improvement task. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
An Invite to join Novels WikiProject
[edit]
Hi, you are cordially invited to join the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels". We make no length distinction so all narrative prose fiction is of interest. This includes Novels, novellas, novelettes and short stories. Articles about the works themselves and the forms and genres. |
As you have shown an interest in Category:Crime novels we thought you might like to take an interest in this well established WikiProject. |
You might like to take an extra interest in our Crime task force |
We look forward to welcoming you to the project! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:32, 10 September 2007 (UTC) |
A belated welcome
[edit]Just wanted to say, welcome aboard the Crime Fiction Task Force. My watchlist tells me that you are putting in a HUGE amount of work in categorizing existing mystery novels, and I wanted you to know that it has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. If there's something I can do to help you -- other than by making my future contributions match the categories that you've been using -- let me know on my talk page. Accounting4Taste 20:41, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'm leaping to the conclusion that you may be a Carter Dickson fan <grin>; if you could add a plot summary to The Reader is Warned, and then remove the unreferenced tag, I'd be grateful. (I haven't read the novel in about 20 years.) I've been adding stubs for the Dickson novels two and three at a time, and your input would be welcome. Accounting4Taste 01:14, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I need to read The Reader is Warned myself again but I have the book. I'll try to help with other JD Carr books as well. Henry Merrivale 22:37, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the information; as you can probably tell, I use formats based on what I see others doing, not out of a deep understanding of the underlying concept. I'll continue to change the Heinemann and Morrow entries in Dickson articles to match your format as I go, and now I'm piling up Carr novels preparatory to starting to create pages for the main body of his work. But if you see me doing more silly stuff like that, by all means let me know!! Cheers, Accounting4Taste 14:46, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- And I should have said earlier, the template is great -- I'd never seen one of those put together before, so I will be able to copy it and even understand it a little. It makes navigation amongst the novels a lot easier! Accounting4Taste 16:00, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
- Now that I've created a navbox for Nero Wolfe and Philo Vance, I thought I should thank you for the good example of Henry Merrivale... the users appreciate them. It's made me more anxious to get all the pages in place for Ellery Queen and John Dickson Carr so that I can use my newfound navbox-creation skills, then on to Perry Mason ... Thanks! Behn and Behniacs
[edit]Any chance you're going to work on Love Letters? While I wrote Oroonoko, I have steadfastly refused to do any more with Behn. The Behniacs and I don't get along. Not enough intellectual rigor, too much passion there. I've read all of Love Letters, and I think it's Behn's best/only actual novel, and I also think it's far superior to that one scene that everyone talks about, but I'm resolutely not going to write a byte on the subject. That doesn't stop my wishing that others would. It's just not a battle I want to fight here, as well as elsewhere. Geogre (talk) 14:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you have removed two categories from that article. First you called that action "recat", at a later point you called it "refined cat". Honestly, I don't understand any of this. Could you please explain?
All the best, <KF> 05:46, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your answer. What I don't quite understand is why in one instance—British versus English novels—you moved the article from the "parent cat" to a more specific one while in the other—crime versus detective fiction—your move was in the opposite direction. As I see it, Gervase Fen is clearly a detective, and Love Lies Bleeding undoubtedly a detective novel. Best wishes, <KF> 22:51, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Removal from British books category
[edit]Hi. What's your rationale for removing books such as Send for the Saint from the British books category? Is there a redundancy, or has the category been renamed or killed? I ask because you only changed about 5 of the 50 "Saint" articles, so if there is a more appropriate category I'll need to know so I can update the others. I also note that you removed Octopussy and the Living Daylights but not, say Casino Royale (novel), although that one is listed under British novels, a different category. Just curious -- is "British books" being restricted to non-fiction work only? If so, it's should be renamed "British non-fiction books". Cheers. 23skidoo (talk) 23:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. When I have a moment I'll check the others and see if there's any similar redundancies. 23skidoo (talk) 14:42, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Cat:Horror & SF Studies
[edit]Hi HM -- You removed Category:Horror from Category:Science fiction studies. The definition of science fiction studies includes horror, and there is no more distinguished "horror studies". I'm putting it back; if you still disagree, we should talk about it on the talk page. Cheers, Lquilter (talk) 18:37, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Ace Doubles and van Vogt
[edit]Hi I noticed your recent changes to List of Ace double novels and List of Ace SF Double Titles. However, I think you may have meant to do something else. I believe that The Weapon Makers was published as Ace Double D-94 under the title One Against Eternity. The link you changed for The Weapon Shops of Isher was for Ace Double D-53 and is actually a different novel. There is a good site with scans of Ace covers [1] where you can see the two covers in question.
I'm going to change D-53 back, and link D-94, but I wanted to explain why I was changing your edits before I started.--Rtrace (talk) 00:09, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Peter Temple
[edit]Henry - the Peter Temple page already notes the Duncan Lawrie Dagger award for 2007 for The Broken Shore twice in the article: once in the header details and again in the Awards and nominations section. Does it need to be there a third time next to the book in the bibliography section? I was going to revert your change, but will leave it up to you to decide. Stellar (talk) 03:11, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hi
Is there a special reason why you keep undoing the correction of the Nazi fame that EMR was born as Kramer? As you can see it's even stated in the article itself that this isn't true.
Furthermore, why did you undo the axe bug and the ridiculous statement that Hitler himself was involved in that verdict?

Infobox added in Captain Alatriste
[edit]This is a stock message to a number of people who have contributed to the article on the ‘’book’’ series of Captain Alatriste as an FYI. I have added a character infobox to the article. If you have time, enter the edit function in article and fill in appropriate information after the = sign. Fill in only what you think applies, but please leave all fields there. If nothing comes after the = sign, then it won’t appear in the article. On the other hand, if someone DOES think the field applies, they can add pertinent info. I do understand that this is technically a series article and not a character article. I’ve added the info box because 1) the series does revolve around Alatriste in large part and 2) the box really does improve what little is on the article right now. If a character article is created, we can copy and paste over. IMHO (talk) 03:10, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
Category:Crime novels
[edit]Hi, minor point you didn't sign you post to me. Ok now to move on.
I wasn't trying to be awkward just think we need to discuss the issue. The categories "clearly" describe different things as crime, doesn't necessarily envlolve mystery, mystery doesn't crime, detective novels usually involve both but not always, crime and mystery do not always feature detectives. I admitt I have been a bit uncomfortable with the existing definitions as they imply exclusivity when non truely exists. It should be that overlaps (in novel article categories) should be allowed. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:05, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Categorization of Novels
[edit]Actually, I just went to the Wikipedia page you referred me to and there is no such policy that you are referring to... One of the points of Wikipedia is to take advantage of relatively modern technology such as databases, categorization and indexing... So basically are you saying that if you don't know the year of a published novel, then you are out-of-luck in finding it or that if you want to see other novels of the same decade, that Wikipedia users will have to organize that information on their own? I think adding spatial and contextual information through categorization not only adds value to an entry and potentially affiliated articles, but that it doesn't conflict with any established policy at all...
But in case you didn't have a chance to read the page of "standard Wikipedia Policy" you referred me to, I have enclosed it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categorization_and_subcategories
Reasons for duplication
There are some good reasons why duplication may be a benefit:
- 1. The basic principle is that duplication should make it easier, not harder, for users to find articles.
- 2. Different users may think of different categories when they look up their targets, multiple listing or locations enable users to spot their target easily
- 3. Wikipedia's categorization scheme allows for multiple taxonomies. This is a good thing and a powerful feature. The categories act as indexes, facilitating users to browse through subjects.

About Russian title in the template
[edit]Hello, Henry. I ask you not to add in the film template of articles Russian title, use Enlish title or, at a pinch, romanized title if there isnot English title. Thanks! P.S: Вы, как я понимаю, знаете русский язык. Поэтому, должны понимать довольно странный вид статей: дублирующееся название фильма контрастирует с тем же названием на плакате к фильму: [5] Ну, совсем пропащий. :) --Anonymous 18:20, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Rainbow/Raduga film
[edit]Thanks for the help on the film page for Raduga. It was about to be deleted since it said only "1944 Russian film" and I came across the speedy delete notice while patrolling recent changes. It seemed a shame to delete an existing movie like that and looking at the internet info on the film, a seemingly important film for the period. Sadly, I had never tried making a page before and my efforts weren't completely up to film article standards. Thanks! Age Happens (talk) 05:17, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Film Template
[edit]Hi, Henry. How about "Soviet Russia" or "post-revolutionary Russia" then? It's only a cosmetic edit (no changes to the actual template) that adds precision to Wikipedia as factually correct reference material. PasswordUsername (talk) 02:48, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the Soviet Russia article presently reads
In Soviet Russia, road forks you.
In English, the term Bolshevist Russia or Soviet Russia is commonly used for the period 1917–1922.
- So the term certainly seems closer to historical fact than the "Soviet Union" – this being a total non-entity at the time. (Were there any significant films even produced in Soviet Georgia, etc. prior to 1922?) And, yes, the Soviet Russia article really does say that stuff about forks right now. PasswordUsername (talk) 03:02, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- I suppose you're right: it kind of fits for brevity's sake though it sounds quite off historically. I guess it's OK – I'm gonna chill out until I really think of something brilliant. ;) Thanks for the feedback – I'd say I concur. PasswordUsername (talk) 03:20, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, it would be more historically accurate without the years. In my opinion, something like "Soviet cinema" (without the years) would be altogether historically accurate since it could account for the other Soviet republics, though I'll leave it at your discretion whether you want to stick to the standard sobriquet or not. PasswordUsername (talk) 03:30, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

{{USSR-film-actor-stub}}
[edit]Greetings! I see you have recently created one or more new stub templates or categories. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This helps to reach consensus about whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries, where comments are welcome as to any rationale for this stub type. Please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Grutness...wha? 08:05, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Kotovasia
[edit]Hi, Henry! Thank you for your feedback. In response, however, I would like to point out that it was you who neglected to set up a disambiguation page in the first place, opting instead for inclusion of the non-name entries in the "see also" section. I merely added one entry and re-formatted the page within this already faulty framework. Why you decided to give me crap about that is something that I frankly do not quite understand, but I am sure it was done with best intents :) No offfense is taken on my part (I indeed shouldn't have been this lazy and should have set things up properly).
That said, thank you for the fixes you've made. I am kind of not sure regarding your decision to make the surname page primary and to relegate the disambiguation page to Kotov (disambiguation) (instead of making "Kotov" a dab and moving the surnames to Kotov (surname), to which the said dab would link), but that's not really a big deal either.
Please let me know if you have anything further on this subject. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 13:48, May 28, 2009 (UTC)
- Henry, I am not sure where exactly in my comment you saw angriness, offensive language, or blame-putting. Perhaps my sarcasm did not translate as smoothly as I intended to your side, for which I apologize. Regarding the matter at hand, I consider the issue closed. I could keep explaining the situation further until cows come home, but I have an uncomfortable feeling that would be interpreted as more anger/blame/offense, and the matter isn't really worth it. For what it is worth, I hold no grudge. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 00:57, May 29, 2009 (UTC)
- Henry, first, I apologize for missing the most recent comment you left on my talk page, and second, I would like to assure you that while I did not mean what I said as endearement, I most certainly did not mean it as a straight-in-your-face offense either. In circles where I revolve, this phrase is used so routinely often that it is easy to forget that it can be perceived as offensive, especially when one cannot read the facial expression and the intonations of another. If it did offend you, I, once again, apologize. I hope we can close this matter now. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 19:10, June 8, 2009 (UTC)

Stolper and Возмездие
[edit]Hi,
Retribution is a terrible title, because it immediately needs disambiguation.
That's why I used the much better title "Soldiers Aren't Born" originally.
I will be changing that title back in the table.
By the way, I am just curious.
Are you going through List of films based on war books, finding missing Russians, and adding them?
That's ok if you are. But are you? Maybe it is just coincidence.
Cheers, Varlaam (talk) 07:14, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
The reason I am asking:
My understanding of Russian is not great. Sometimes I find films mentioned in Russian Wikipedia which are not in the IMDb, and so I don't know whether to include them in the War Books list. If I find films like that in Russian Wikipedia, can I ask you for some help?

[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sofiya Perovskaya (screenshot).jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 01:12, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

I ain't mad at cha but I do not agree with this edit you made. The reason is: Ukrainian was spoken in Kyiv in 1905 and so his name in Ukrainian is relevant there. Maybe the Ukrainian name of Leonid Trauberg is less relevant (less Ukrainian was spoken there the in Kyiv at the time???) but I do not see the harm in having Ukrainian names in the articles especially since both there towns of birth are not in today's Russia but in today's Ukraine (and Ukrainian is not a Russian dialect). — Mariah-Yulia • Talk to me! 13:12, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it was a typo. It's already been requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves - just waiting on an administrator to do it.
Do you know of any good reference works focusing on his dramas? I'm trying to gather material to start articles on A Burning Heart, Artists and Admirers, Girl Without a Dowry and Light Without Heat. DionysosProteus (talk) 01:05, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, the transliteration is a problem. I'm using that given in the Cambridge Guide to Theatre, ed Banham and A History of Russian Theatre, ed Leach & Borovsky. The English rendition of that play I've come across so far have been Girl Without a Dowry and Without a Dowry, so perhaps no need to move. Though I'm not sure it's "eponymous"... DionysosProteus (talk) 01:24, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, and I notice there's no Tommy in the template. Will you be covering that? I ask because I created an article on Armoured Train 14-69, on which it's based, just yesterday. We appear to be creating articles in an odd synch. DionysosProteus (talk) 01:26, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Glad to hear it's coming. Though sorry, but feel the need to quibble, since I've come across the word misused quite frequently on here. It seems to be one of those words editors are strangely attracted to. "Eponymous" means named after a particular person. I don't quite see how that applies to Without Dowry... DionysosProteus (talk) 02:04, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
BTW, do you read Russian? I'm having trouble locating Artists and Admirers on the website given on his page. My sources say it's 1882, but I can't find it. Babelfish gives "Handsome Man is Man" or "Old in a New Way" for 1882, but neither seems a likely candidate. If you can, could you post the Russian name on my talk page? Many thanks, DionysosProteus (talk) 02:50, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link, that was very useful. When you have a moment, could you confirm for me that "Na vsyakogo mudretsa dovolno prostoty" renders accurately "На всякого мудреца довольно простоты". I want to add it into the description in the lede of Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man. Thanks, DionysosProteus (talk) 17:13, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
hold on
[edit]It's an unexpected development - supported by RS but inconsistent with the bulk of Alexanders on wikipedia.
Henry: hold on with relinking other articles to -ks- version. No matter how Aleksandr Ostrovsky article itself spells the name, other articles linking to him consistently use Alexander. For example, an article on his home stage Maly Theatre (Moscow) which I'm putting together refers to Alexander I of Russia, Alexander II, Alexander III, Alexander Yuzhin, Alexander Lensky (tbc), Alexander Ostuzhev and, quite likely, Alexander Vesnin (tbc). An Aleksandr among them looks odd. Another point is WP:NOTBROKEN. It's not, is it?
p.s. McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia v.4 pp. 55-66 has a good entry on Ostrovsky with full play timeline (didn't see it cited on any of related pages) but, sadly, uses -ks- spelling. Oh well. NVO (talk) 05:49, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Poruchik Kizhe
[edit]My book pages use the original language of publication all over the place. French, German, whatever. Not just Russian. English speaking people are lazy when it comes to other languages, so I think people should be confronted with other languages.
In this case, you click on "Poruchik Kizhe" and get the Kijé page. No one is inconvenienced. The film title gives the English name already, while the Russian is in Cyrillic and not readable by most people.
So that's why I like "Poruchik Kizhe". It transliterates the Cyrillic and shows people what Russian sounds like. Maybe someone will be inspired to learn the Cyrillic alphabet, the way I did when I was a kid.

Orphaned non-free image (File:The Return of Maxim.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:The Return of Maxim.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:54, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Henry Merrivale! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 2 of the articles that you created are currently tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 295 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Rick Boyer - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Arthur Maling - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

The article Kat Colorado has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Unreferenced since 2006 mini stub - redirect to novel(s)/author?
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. LessHeard vanU (talk) 20:11, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Nana Djordjadze.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Nana Djordjadze.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 19:52, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

You changed the target of this redirect to Leo (mathematician). As there is no article there, that made the redirect liable to speedy deletion as "redirect to a non-existent page", so I have changed it back, and the same for Leon the Geometer. If you were thinking of changing the title of Leo the Mathematician, better to do that first before altering the redirects; but I don't think that title change would be an improvement. Admittedly, "Leo (mathematician)" is the usual form of disambiguation we use to distinguish a footballer from a singer, but in this case the guy was known as Λέων ὁ Μαθηματικός and the article title is a translation of that. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:38, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

File source problem with File:WithoutDowry.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:WithoutDowry.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.
If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

[edit]The page Aleksandr Belozyorov has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguated only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ended in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguated zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- was a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that did not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review Fenix down (talk) 10:35, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

The article Bays Brewery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Now closed and has been for some time per Google maps listing. Doesn't in my view meet WP:N requirements on significant coverage with independent sources and notability with being closed for some time. Even if it were still open, I'm not convinced it would meet notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Whisky and more (talk) 10:22, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
