Control copyright icon Hello HaysonDage, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:28, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't add unsourced details to articles. Neither source you added information in front of talks about "I Love Me" being either the lead single nor even a single from an album, and there is no discussion of her tattoo at the Hola! reference. Ss112 06:17, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at I Love Me (Demi Lovato song), without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Ss112 06:17, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unsourced or poorly sourced content, as you did on I Love Me (song). This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Ss112 23:25, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Copyright problem icon Your addition to Demi Lovato has been removed in whole or in part, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license. All such contributions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, and persistent violators of our copyright policy will be blocked from editing. See Wikipedia:Copying text from other sources for more information. When adding links to material on external sites, please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube or Sci-Hub, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. You should not insert copyrighted images into biographies, even if uploaded by other users, when free images are available to use. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 13:48, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You don't seem to have taken my previous warning on copyrights seriously. All images taken after 1924 are copyrighted unless their uploader specifically indicates otherwise. Furthermore, DO NOT fabricate claims of free use or where you got something from. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 01:14, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SNUGGUMS:: I don't understand why my uploaded photo is deemed inappropriate, when it is from the same exact source and interview for the photo that is currently being used. Also, despite the interview being published in 2020, this interview is actually from 2017 and so the photo is very outdated. If you could please fix the photo quality and update it with a more accurate picture, that would be great. And I do not think I should be banned from edits for wanting to contribute and improve a Wikipedia page, despite being shot down time after time again. HaysonDage (talk) 01:55, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You falsely asserted this was from Vogue when it actually is from Self. It is deemed inappropriate because the uploader gave no indication that people could freely use screenshots of the video. Any blocks/bans you receive would be for copyright violations, not for wanting to improve a page. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 02:10, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:I'm Ready Alternative Cover.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. MrClog (talk) 11:55, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We adhere to international copyright laws, outlined at WP:NFCC which generally translates to the following:

  • One cover/artwork per article as this is limited use of commercial works
  • Additional covers are allowed where they are sufficiently different and provide further context
  • Where additional covers could be explained in words, they're not used.

Instead of re-adding the cover - if it's been removed its probably for a good reason. Take a look at the article history to see why others have removed the image. If you're not sure you can always ask. Lil-℧niquԐ1 - (Talk) - 16:12, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I understand, I thought it was an error. What about for the emo version ft. Travis Barker? That cover art and the song is significantly different than the original in important ways, I believe it deserves representation. HaysonDage (talk) 16:18, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Neither cover is sufficiently different - both are the same image just coloured differently. Lil-℧niquԐ1 - (Talk) - 18:27, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Nick Jonas, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. If you only meant to make a test edit, please use your sandbox for that. Thank you. —MelbourneStartalk 04:33, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you.
