Cheers!
To be perfectly honest, I was thinking of removing myself as a co-nom from the Legend of Zelda media list. I didn't feel that I had done enough work on the list to merit such a position, and I really believed that you and Gary should've had all the credit. So now that I didn't do that, and I'm getting partial credit for a list that you did much of the work for, I guess there's only one thing I can do, isn't there?
The VG Barnstar | ||
It's rare that I come across an editor that I truly believe is great at what he does, and it's even rarer that I have the pleasure of working with them so extensively. Of course, Guyinblack, this editor is without a doubt you. Whenever I see your comments in the WikiProject, I stop and read them– you almost always bring another dimension to a discussion that's simply impossible to ignore. Your article work is staggering, and anyone who can bring an article like Wii Sports and Final Fantasy up to Featured Article status despite the complaining and nitpicking of fanboys is a star in my book. You purport to be on a "Semi-Wikibreak", but yet you continue to be more active than me by a wide margin. But all of this isn't enough to for me to award you this barnstar: what is, on top of all the other things you've done for Wikipedia, is the fact that of everyone I've interacted here, you're one of the most pleasurable people I've ever met: the fact that you have seventeen (or, eighteen including this) barnstars would obviously attest to the fact that the community at large agrees with me. And so, for all your accomplishments and your stellar work ethic, I have to say, it's been a pleasure and cheers! -- Nomader (Talk) 05:13, 31 August 2009 (UTC) |
I'm definitely not as active as I used to be thanks to college, but I felt that you really deserved that barnstar. So, unlike the last one I gave you, why don't you let this one get to your head? :P
It's always a pleasure working with you, and I hope to again in the future if I stick around. -- Nomader (Talk) 05:13, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Weird, I thought I responded to you awhile ago; I guess I never saved it, my mistake. I suppose if you feel that credit's due, I'll have to accept it then: don't worry, I'm not too crazy about who gets what recognition, I just felt that if we were going to recognize people, it most definitely deserved to be you. I may not be around as much while I'm at college (you may have noticed that my edit count has dropped tremendously), but when I'm on break, I'd love to work with you on a list. For now I've started to piece together a Mario list in my Userspace, because the three that we have are kind of excessive; I was also going to start work on Sonic, but with college right now I don't think I have time. -- Nomader (Talk) 14:04, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Re: Pokemon Red and Blue
Sorry for the delay on addressing those issues, been busy lately and funneling most of my free time into fixing the Soulcalibur character list and praying for a few supports on MissingNo.'s FAC x_X. I'm out for the day at my fiancee's but I'll get to them soon.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 08:35, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

The art of game worlds
Do you still happen to have this book? I'm sorry to trouble you about it but I'm on a tear with the soulcalibur stuff and hoping to keep my momentum going, and according to google scholar both Ivy and Cervantes are mentioned in there but doesn't say in what context. I was hoping if you knew what was said in it and if it was useful, could you shed any light on it?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 21:59, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Kingdom Hearts characters category
Do you see any real point to Category:Kingdom Hearts characters? I've moved all of the characters belonging only to the series to Category:Kingdom Hearts character redirects to lists, so now its just the Disney and Final Fantasy characters left over. I don't really see much of a point in categorizing characters when their involvement in the series warrants only a mention in their articles. TTN (talk) 17:20, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

- I believe that it's fine to link them in a talk page and use those for purposes of citing, but not link back to them. There was a similar discussion on RS/N I made about Amiga Magazine Rack.陣内Jinnai 02:00, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting. It does tiptoe around the fair use line, but the line is pretty blurry most of the time anyway =) –xenotalk 02:12, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- I think the idea is the same as watching a fansub and citing an episode, but not linking to the fansub.陣内Jinnai 04:34, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- I believe WP:COPYLINK describes content for articles, but I agree that it can be seen as a grey area. So I have no problem with the discussion staying on or off WT:VG. I'll leave it up to you guys. (Guyinblack25 talk 14:34, 23 September 2009 (UTC))

←Hi. Xeno asked my input. WP:LINKVIO is a subsection of WP:C, which applies to all namespaces. The Wikipedia community has, in fact, typically been less forgiving about non-free content in non-article space. For instance, it's not permitted to put images uploaded under WP:NFC on non-article spaces (with exemptions). I agree that it's a bit of a grey area, but I'm afraid that I personally think it shades to black. :) I don't think we can link it, which is a shame, because it looks like a very valuable resource. If you want other feedback, I would suggest keeping it off for now and asking at WT:C. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:18, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Thanks for your input. (Guyinblack25 talk 15:21, 23 September 2009 (UTC))

Re: Marble Madness review
No problem at all! I saw the article was an FA, so I was actually expecting a response; most of the articles I've added the blurb to have been Starts and Stubs! I think the review was fairly short, so I can probably reproduce a fair percentage of it for you to let you judge how you want to use it. I have it at home, so I can take care of that this evening or tomorrow. BOZ (talk) 15:23, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- I am also willing to provide the same for any review mentioned on this page - but one at a time! :) BOZ (talk) 15:25, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- That's an idea; I may do that when I've got the list completed. BOZ (talk) 15:32, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
Sent it; let me know if you got it. BOZ (talk) 00:30, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, I can get the specific page number that the review appears on. The pages that I listed in the article were those for the whole column. BOZ (talk) 15:08, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

Pokemon Red and Blue guide
I'm hitting up User:Sesu Prime with this as well, but your copy of Nintendo's Pokemon Red and Blue guide...does it refer to the protagonist as Ash? I read recently that early prints did before changing it to basically a generic trainer and want to confirm that.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 01:33, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

The E.T. stuff
I posted one more reference from the Wall Street Journal and now I'm turning over the discussion completely to you. I'm really really really tired of getting in these constant debates with new editors here and dealing with their propensity to throw WP:Civil out the window. Think I need a wiki break as well. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 20:50, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yah, just found out he contacted my partner Curt Vendel asking for resources as well, heh. I'm sure the guy will be able to find stuff from the time with Spielberg stating he was happy with the game - it would be a common PR, I've seen that stuff as well. What person involved in an expensive licensing campaign for his movies would say "Oh, it sucks!" ;) That would hardly of course back up any sort of claim of it actually being a success and not attributing to Atari's woes - especially with the several sources already turned over. BTW, in a somewhat related note - just did a speech at a Commodore convention regarding the whole Amiga/Commodore/Atari/Tramiel thing during the takeover in '84. Showed off a lot of the original design documents, cashed check etc. Was recorded and will be up at retrothing.com next week or so. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:36, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Also, regarding Defender - the full interviews done for the '96 released Williams Arcade's Greatest Hits are up on Youtube. Very in depth with the Eugene and several others. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:44, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Next newsletter prep
No big deal, but next time could you wait until closer to the issue date to move everything, as I was still working on the draft. Thanks, MrKIA11 (talk) 15:54, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah. I usually need at least a couple days to update the numbers since more articles are found by the tools a couple days into the next month. But again, it's not that big of a deal, and I can always edit the final pages, as I did this time, it's just easier to edit the draft page all at once. MrKIA11 (talk) 13:04, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Many thanks (for the shiny, and for helping to revert vandalism on the TFA... I swear the first I hear about these things is when someone move protects it in my watchlist). Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 15:29, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Hey Gib. I'm helping out with the Dragon Quest article and I'm having fixing a dead link. Its reference 66 and its Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition related. So I was wondering if you can fix the link since you have the book. Thanks, GamerPro64 (talk) 01:21, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
Re: Pac-Man image
I got it from a website (I forget the URL). I forget whether it had all four ghosts on it at once and I added the flicker effect myself, or whether I simply sped up the flicker or composited it from separate images, but I do remember improving the animation one way or another in GIMP. Space Gun copyedit
Whenever you get the time to do this (as per my request on Project Video Games talk page) I am very grateful. Please bear in mind that another editor has very significantly cut down the article since I left it on 13 October, and while the article now reads a lot better a lot of my work has been removed. Thanks, AirRaidPatrol 84 (talk) 08:26, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if there's a lot more I can do to the article now. My resources have been exhausted. As I have said on the article's talk page there may be Japanese language resources but I do not know about them. Perhaps a search using the kanji title would prove beneficial? AirRaidPatrol 84 (talk) 17:18, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, whenever you have time, and thanks for putting the effort in anyway. We're all getting busier, but it's nice to know that someone else cares about this little article for a game that not that many people I know have even heard of. AirRaidPatrol 84 (talk) 23:41, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Input needed
Could use your neutral input on a source question over at this discussion at Atari 8-bit. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 14:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- Need your input again. The same new editor that agreed with the consensus now is starting all over again on the wording, and going back to disruptive editing practices. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 19:25, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- Not a problem. I left a pretty stern message there in the meantime to cut out the edit warring until consensus was re-evaluated and the discussion was finished. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 23:39, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'm about ready to get admins involved already, this is getting completely ridiculous how Waskoma is using every opportunity to participate as a good faith editor to try and swing the discussion once again to discrediting the source and draw everyone in to debating it yet again. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:04, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
- I just asked Keifer to become involved as an admin in the convo. Hopefully that'll straighten things out, because I can't see it stopping any time soon, and will probably escallate once we actually start doing a reception section. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 21:33, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Guyinblack. Thanks for assisting at Talk:Atari 8-bit family. I'm trying a similar approach to yours in trying to mediate the discussion there, and I've proposed some new wording to the paragraph that seems to be at issue there.
