Ubuntu touch
Comparison of mobile operating systems shows Ubuntu as a perfect system with all green features or uknown, while android and iOS are shown as idiots survailled by PRISM. At least Ubuntu touch article should clarify. Wispyrainon (talk) 09:43, 5 October 2021 (UTC)
"Low-level control" in the Firmware article
You make a good point about how "low-level control" doesn't imply a person directly using a low-level programming language, but I thought it was a useful link to explain to users that the term was referring to being relatively more direct to the processor and hardware than high-level control, which would refer to installing software on the OS. Would the article, High- and low-level, be a better fit? CessnaMan1989 (talk) 18:54, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @CessnaMan1989: That's not a perfect fit, but, as there's no article "low-level control" or "low-level control of hardware", it's probably the best we have. Guy Harris (talk) 19:30, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Text Messaging Entry
Hello I saw that you are an editor of the Wiki entry for Text Messaging. I have historical information to add but I have never added anything to Wikipedia before. May I send you the information for your guidance on how to add it to the historical section of the page?
Many thanks, Jvasilatos (talk) 00:11, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Itanium
Hi @Guy Harris, thanks for your contributions to the Itanium article. I was looking at the IA-64 article and noticed that there is a duplicate in it, that is already mentioned at the Itanium article. What is your opinion on merging it into Itanium? Looking at the prose size, that should be fine. Also, I think that the current Itanium article no longer meets the Good Article criteria, so it needs some updating and maybe a review. PhotographyEdits (talk) 19:09, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- @PhotographyEdits: For at least some processor lines, there are separate pages for the processor line itself, with a separate page for the instruction set architecture. See, for example, IBM System/360/IBM System/360 architecture and PDP-11/PDP-11 architecture.
- For now, we can keep Itanium and IA-64, but remove everything from IA-64 that's not instruction-set-related. I.e., merge the History section into Itanium - and move the diagram into Itanium if it isn't there already and indicate which particular Itanium processor it refers to, as it's not a diagram of the instruction set architecture, it's a a diagram of the microarchitecture of some particular Itanium processor. - @Guy Harris Well, I don't think that's a good reason for keeping the other article. Looking at WP:SPLITSIZE, articles should be divided above 60k prose size. The prose size of Itanium is 23k and 16k of IA-64, which contains quite some duplicate information. When combined, the total prose size is less than 40k (*maybe* even less than 30k when duplicate info is removed). I think that having a single article covering all information about Itanium and IA-64 makes the topic easier to comprehend. PhotographyEdits (talk) 20:08, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
iOS 14.8.1
Hey, I know that the build number of 14.8.1 is 18H107 as I asked my audience on Twitter and 3 people replied with the same thing. Apple will probably never release it in the news and releases pages as it seems to be an OTA update only without IPSWs. How can this be sourced? Because otherwise the article displays incorrect information. —Dimsar01 Talk ⌚→ 19:29, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
