Hi! I usually write about (the intersection of) computers, security, politics and history. I also focus on styleguide compliance, mostly MOS:ACROTITLE, MOS:SOB and MOS:AVOIDBOLD and rename pages based on WP:COMMONNAME. Since making my account, I made 10,000 edits. I added this fact as my 10,000st edit!
WP:UNUSUAL includes a lot of fun reads, including four articles that I started: Mikhail Gorbachev Pizza Hut commercial, McDonald's ice cream machine, abolition of time zones and Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point
I have my own TODO list and sandbox.
Quotes
[edit]“ | Actually Wikipedia has lots of stupid rules like this one, that no one knows how they came to be. Around here, we call that sort of thing "consensus". | ” |
— Jorge Stolfi, taken from Templates that I sorely miss |
“ | One of the things I most enjoy at Wikipedia is the stable environment — the "feel" of the place rarely changes. It feels like home, where even when you wake up in the middle of the night, with the lights out, you can still find your way to the bathroom without bumping into things and waking up the whole household. | ” |
— Ottawahitech, Taken out of context from archive 112 of Village pump (technical) |
“ | Wikipedia editor (n.)
Someone who will not leave a burning building until you show them the newspaper article documenting how many people were killed by the fire. |
” |
— David Eppstein |

Pages, policies and opinions
[edit]Style
[edit]- MOS:AVOIDBOLD and MOS:REDUNDANCY: don't write weird sentences in the lead because you think the name must be bold and therefor can't contain links. If the article title is composed of words that have their own article, this is likely the case. Even some WP:FA don't adhere this policy. I try to fix this.
- MOS:NOTES
Essays
[edit]- WP:YWAB: Yes, Wikipedia is Biased
- WP:AVOIDCYBER: an essay I wrote, arguing that you should avoid cyber
Other
[edit]- WP:IPSOFACTO: the WP:GNG is not the only way that notability can be proven
- WP:DTQ
- WP:HANDLE
- WP:SNOW
- The word 'controversial' should be avoided on biographical articles describing democratically elected politicians. It's part of their job to be controversial, since they don't tend to get 100% of the vote.
- On biographic articles, when years are used in section headers, they should be put in front of the rest of the section, not afterwards. Makes it easier to compare and skim through.
- Librsvg bugs
- I prefer using the word 'primarily' over stating that there are exceptions.

Sometimes this doesn't work in author-link=

[edit]
the author-link1
parameter cannot be interlanguage linked. However, author can. Example:
{{Cite book |author=[[:de:Erich Preuß|Preuß, Erich]]
Because it requires custom formatting (Last name comma first name), the regular interlanguage link template is not usable in this case.
Multiple images
[edit]If you don't mind the border, see the example at Obama tan suit controversy. Otherwise, use the one at Disney logo. There is also the possibility of combining both images into a single one and reuploading that to Wikimedia Commons, as done for the infobox in ANT catalog
{{multiple image | background color = #FFFFFF | align = right | direction=vertical | total_width = 320 | image_style = border:none; | border = infobox | image1 = | alt1 = | caption1 = | image2 = | alt2 = | caption2 = | image3 = | alt3 = | caption3 = }}

SVG logos
[edit]How to get SVG logos:
- Check the website
- Search
site:contoso.com filetype:pdf
,"contoso corporation" filetype:pdf
or some related query on your favorite search engine - Zoom in to check if it is a vector. PDF.js will stop rerendering after a certain zoom level, but it will be clear enough to distinguish between a vector and an obvious raster image.
- Open that particular page with Inkscape
- Select that part of the logo, paste it into new file
- Optional: scale the image to a reasonable size
- File -> Document -> Crop to content button
- Maybe needed to remove
<script></script>
part with a text editor - During uploading on Wikimedia Commons, use
{{PD-textlogo}}
as the 'license'.
