Removed prod from Iain MacCall, you can't re-prod an article if the prod is removed

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Iain MacCall, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, it is best not to propose deletion of articles that have previously been de-{{prod}}ed, even by the article creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Atamachat 22:55, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for alerting me to the NOGALLERY fair-use thing for Category:British television logos. I will do the same for BSkyB, ITV and the football categories I started then. Malpass93 (talk) 21:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Aker Kværner.svg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aker Kværner.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 14:39, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

General motors

Hi, I was wondering if you can help me out. Everytime I do a search on 'Google' for General Motors, There appears to be three to four articles on the subject. Please look into it. Dwilso 18:32, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

SVG Program

Hello, I've recently been wanting to try and help add SVG logos to articles on Wikipedia, but the vector program that I currently use, CorelDRAW, does not have the option to save a file in SVG format. Could you direct me to any program that I may be able to use in order to create SVG files? I just downloaded Inkscape, but I can't really seem to figure out just exactly how to operate it correctly. Thanks. CoolKid1993 (talk) 20:43, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

I generally use Adobe Illustrator, which can open PDF files and save the contents as SVG. Alas, it's far from cheap, but you can download a 30-day free trial from the Adobe website. As far as free software goes, I think Inkscape is as good as it gets. Best, Gr1st (talk) 21:09, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for uploading an SVG version of the current CBBC Logo. Would you object at all if I were to move it from Image:CBBC.svg to Image:CBBCLogo2007.svg? This would help keep the filenames of the CBBC Logos consistant. If it's OK with you, I'm very happy to do the 'work' myself ;). TalkIslander 11:31, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Done. Gr1st (talk) 11:38, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Derivatives trader?

Just curious, are you a derivative trader? Based on the articles listed on your user page I've got the strong feeling some articles have a certain connection. Could possibly be accidental of course.. regards JacobH (talk) 18:48, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

No, I'm not in derivatives, I just happen to have a (non-professional) interest in business and economics. Best, Gr1st (talk) 22:11, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
For example Altana is notorious among insiders in the derivatives industry [1]. Together with Van der Moolen I made some incorrect assumptions and connected some dots. Thanks anyway for improving my first article on this wikipedia. Regards, JacobH (talk) 08:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Aker Solutions.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Where does AkzoNobel SVG image come from

Hi Grist, can you tell me where the image:AkzoNobel.svg comes from? I can't locate it on the reference PDF file that you provided as source. Wim van Dorst (talk) 21:34, 9 May 2008 (UTC).

I used the objects embedded in the PDF to create the "horizontal" version of the logo, using the image on the AkzoNobel homepage as a guide (I thought this version would be preferable as it's less bulky). It's a bit of a cheat, I suppose, but an accurate representation nevertheless. I'll clarify this in the source parameter of the FUR. Best, Gr1st (talk) 21:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it isn't the correct one: the AkzoNobel world isn't appropriately located, and the slogan (a formal part of the logo) is missing. I just uploaded a correct version of the logo, but I'm not sure whether my conversion trick did work alright. See what you can make of it. Any help appreciated. Wim van Dorst (talk) 21:54, 9 May 2008 (UTC).
I'm reviewing the version of the file I uploaded at the moment (fair enough about the slogan, I left it out because WP guidelines state a preference for logos without them). I don't know if this is just me, but the new version you uploaded isn't showing up (the validator says it isn't valid SVG). I'll take a look-see and post back. Gr1st (talk) 22:02, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
I found a problem and re-uploaded one which does show up. If you have a better SVG file that looks like mine, go ahead and upload it. Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC).
I'm getting some rendering issues on that one too - it's quite blurry at anything other than 337 × 101. Gr1st (talk) 22:07, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Another file uploaded now that at least validates as correct SVG. And since it is merely a simple converted GIF, any resolution higher than the original low-res would indeed lead to very chunky pictures. But it isn't about high-res pictures, as this is a copyrighted logo, which should be low-res only. That't why I didn't mind doing it this simple way. Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:26, 9 May 2008 (UTC).
You were right about the lettering being in the wrong place in my first version, don't know how that happened. Have uploaded slightly tidied-up version removing the blank space at the top. Best, Gr1st (talk) 22:32, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
This is a very good one. Thanks for the good work. Now, if you can help me to point to where can I find out how you created this good file from a PDF snap, I would be much obliged! Wim van Dorst (talk) 22:43, 9 May 2008 (UTC).
The new version (0.46) of Inkscape released recently has for the first time the capability to open PDF files directly. Gr1st (talk) 22:47, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for removing the speedy deletion tag. Your support as ever is appreciated. Dormskirk (talk) 16:29, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

No bother. I had the redlink on my watchlist - it was clearly a misinterpretation of CSD A7 in that notability was asserted. Good job on another article. Gr1st (talk) 16:48, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
