A barnstar for you!

The Minor barnstar
For pointing out my silly error on the Watford scoreline. Mwiqdoh (talk) 17:07, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Picking on?

Why would you assume I'm picking on anyone? The MOS definitely says font size shouldn't be reduced unless there's a damn good reason to do so, and there isn't in this case. I'm sorry if that causes issues for you with previous seasons, but there was nothing wrong with my edits. – PeeJay 21:10, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

@PeeJay: I've done that for ages, for the last load of seasons, even on other club season articles on wikipedia, there are over a dozen different club season articles with the same same setup, why are you picking on the Tottenham one? Not one person has ever complained to me since I've been doing that over six, seven years ago? I have bad eyes, but they are not that bad, the size I set is perfectly fine for me. Govvy (talk) 21:14, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
The fact that you've done it on multiple articles across multiple years is irrelevant. We have a manual of style for a reason. What reason can you give why it should be ignored in these cases? – PeeJay 21:28, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
@PeeJay: Are you talking about this, Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Clubs or a diff MOS? Say MOS:TEXTSIZE, which incidentally says Additionally, large tables may require a decreased font size in order to fit on screen. Hence, which I originally set so I can view the table a bit easier on my iPhone with the size at 90%, but back then I had a smaller phone, it's easier now with my phone. But still having it set at 90% helps people like me with older phones. :/ Govvy (talk) 22:19, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
Large tables, sure. Those are not large tables. A large table is like the one at UEFA Champions League clubs performance comparison. – PeeJay 22:37, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
@PeeJay:, large or small is comparable to screen size. That page you posted above, well, I find that hard to read. I have to zoom right in, and then to me, the page has lost all meaning. Least people can read my tables! :/ Govvy (talk) 09:52, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
Ummm, they're not "your" tables. – PeeJay 12:45, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

User:Govvy, maybe you could try adding

.wikitable {
  font-size: 95%;
}

to User:Govvy/common.css. That should apply your font-size fix to all tables for you, without changing them for everyone else. —Wasell(T) 19:44, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

@Wasell: I never knew I could do that, that really helps. However the Disciplinary table on 2021–22 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season looks, smaller text. I am straining my eyes to read that, why is that? Govvy (talk) 13:12, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Block

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of one week for personal attacks or violations of the harassment policy. Look, Govvy, you need to exercise better restraint, because personal attacks such as this fall well below expected conduct. With this misconduct occurring so soon after the multiple warnings you were issued (by me), I think it's about time you reflect, truly reflect, on whether you should continue to engage this topic. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

@El C: You're fucking pathetic, get real, banning me? I am getting fucking bullied by those guys at that talk page and you're banning me. You need to review yourself. Admin power has gone to your head and you got duped by a bunch of history washing peeps who are trying to wipe out legitimate citations. Seriously, please stop this abuse of power, this is the second time an admin feels the power and abuses their power. I helped get an article to a GA standard and now these guys are shutting me down for it. This is not only a personal attack on me, this is wiki-bullying beyond the extreme and I want you to apologies right now. Govvy (talk) 18:59, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
I'll get real by revoking your talk page access. You need to conduct yourself with a modicum of moderation. If you have a behavioural report concerning your opponents in this dispute, and/or against myself for admin misuse, you can submit that when your block expires. El_C 19:10, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Also, here's a bit of unsolicited advise: don't get overly attached to articles you've put a lot of work into. Sometime, they get altered in ways you disagree with. That has happened to me multiple times. So (eventually) you get more outside input with a WP:DRR and hope it goes your way. If it doesn't, then it doesn't. It's just a thing that happens. El_C 19:18, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah, El_C, yet again, using administrative tools irresponsibly and in a retributive manner. Govvy complained about a user accusing him of "defending slave traders," about as loaded of an accusation as possible, and used language like I will swear all I fucking like when asked to tone it down.
El_C goes on to decsribe this as as speaking emphatically or from calling a WP:SPADE a spade — even if that spade amounts to a harsh critique. But when the tables are turned, uh oh! The admin who claims not to tone police turns around and imposes a ban. Another example of the dysfunction that pervades with trigger happy, arbitrary, and unchecked administrators. Wikieditor19920 (talk) 00:59, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

@El C: - I had an email from Govvy yesterday. It says:

Can you tell El C on my talk page, which I can't edit, there is such a thing as a topic ban, their total ban on me, is pure admin powers abuse. Sadly another admin fell into a trap! Sad how downhill wikipedia is going sometimes. Also, Chloe Bennet‎ page needs protection again.

GiantSnowman 11:28, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Well, I can't make sense of that. What, topic ban? The sitewide block was very much on purpose, to prevent continued disruption and attacks from Govvy. If they want their TPA restored, they need to commit to appealing their one-week block calmly. Also, I've warned them multiple times previously and I even fully-protected the page rather than block, but the latest personal attacks were the final nail. I also note that they've been blocked for personal attacks in 2020 and for edit warring in 2021, so this isn't new for Govvy, who has joined in 2005, so themselves isn't a new editor. Anyway: pure admin powers abuse, got it. El_C 13:45, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
your guess is as good as mine I am afraid. Govvy if you are reading this then please either wait out your block or follow the instructions above to appeal. GiantSnowman 13:52, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello

Hi Govvy - hope you are well. Following on from the Danish conversation, I've made a small edit to this guy, after I found a source, albeit another database. Is it a WP:RS? Thanks for your help in this area too. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 11:39, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Not much on the new source, however the oddity of the site for me, even know I can read a little bit of French, when I start trying too, it was odd, because there is a load of Portuguese text also. Took me a few minutes to figure that it is a mirror of the Portuguese website zerozero.pt. They seem have a number of people working for them, however I don't know how much about it's editorial. Govvy (talk) 11:55, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
No worries - thanks for taking a look. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:50, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Govvy,

I just wanted to confirm that you are asking for this draft page to be deleted so that a main space article can be moved to this title in Draft space, is that correct? Because typically, pages go in the opposite direction. Thank you for any clarification you can provide. Liz Read! Talk! 22:16, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

@Liz: I had moved KMG Pliyev to draft space first of all as I felt it wasn't good enough for main-space. The editor moved it back into main space when I feel that shouldn't be done in it's current condition. I've lost interest in it now and will leave it for someone else to deal with. Cheers. Govvy (talk) 09:58, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

NSPORTS

Hi Govvy, I just reverted this edit of yours. Please try to stick to commenting on content, not editors. I get that humor can sometimes defuse a conflict, but right now posts like that are more likely to continue a cycle of conflict rather than end it. Wug·a·po·des 19:57, 15 March 2022 (UTC)

@Wugapodes: You're boring! There is nothing like satirical humour to deflect an angry mod.. I rather liked the old English honour in punch magazines. Govvy (talk) 10:32, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Tottenham Academy

Hi Govvy. I have done some work on the Tottenham academy page, Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Under-23s and Academy, and put it live. I would like your input concerning notable academy (and youth team) graduates. I am inclined to think that 25 first team appearances is too few and I would suggest increasing that to 50, but what about the likes of Kerry Dixon who played for Tottenham's youth team and went on to play for England but never played a first team game for Tottenham? Please take a look at what I have in my sandbox User:LenF54/sandbox and feel free to let me have your views on the "notability" question. Thanks. LenF54 (talk) 16:35, 26 March 2022 (UTC)

@LenF54: I was thinking of getting rid of all the season sections on the page. Most of the prose is just unsourced, the whole lot needs sourcing. That's my main concern at the moment, and focusing on writing prose for the key points. Govvy (talk) 19:10, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Earnt

Do you have a source for "but modern English uses earned, Earnt is classed as archaic", or is it an opinion? --Escape Orbit (Talk) 19:27, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

Burton

According to ENFA all three of them were Jacks. You can search HERE and it'll list all the various Burtons and their clubs but you need a subscription for any more than that. He played his first minutes with the first team on 17 September 2017 against Barnsley in EFL Cup. And his last youth match with Tottenham was on 5 February 2017 against Liverpool U21. Cracker-Kun (talk) 12:55, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

While Harry Kane didn't played a single minute with Tottenham until August 2011 in EU qualifyers. Cracker-Kun (talk) 12:58, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Finally, Grealish played with the youth team of Aston Villa till 2016. You may check the data before reverting and threatening someone with a ban. You should know that if you have been here for a while. Cracker-Kun (talk) 13:01, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

@Cracker-Kun: How about you read the content in the articles, instead changing data with incorrect years. Years are done by professional contracts. I consider your editing patterns disruptive. By the looks of your editing history you've already shown you can't be trusted. Govvy (talk) 13:11, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Years are not by proffesional contracts, otherwise Ansu Fati will be listed with Barcelona B on the infobox just because he was listed there for one season even though he did not play. All the data is from the BeSoccer database, I will change it back by tomorrow if you don't do it yourself. The data doesn't deserve to be wrong just because you think I am not trusty, you have to trust databases, not me. Cracker-Kun (talk) 13:14, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

A player doens't debut until he plays with the team, that is the case with players that are promoted from reserve teams, and also I don't know why do you remove the youth years, most players youth career's doesn't end when they play their first proffesional match. Cracker-Kun (talk) 13:17, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

@Cracker-Kun: What are you on about, and I don't consider besoccer.com that great, it has too much incorrect information. You really are on a thin line as it is. Govvy (talk) 13:20, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

BeSoccer is literally the best database out there, you can even see the line-up for the matches I told you before, there is no other online database that complete. Cracker-Kun (talk) 13:22, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Arbitration

Administrator attached the tag on 2022 FC Seoul season. He seem to be ignorant of the football and wikipedia rull. Can you arbitrate in this dispute?

My talk page.

Hello, Footwiks,

Thank you for creating 2022 FC Seoul season.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This article - about a semi-professional association football team - needs to meet general notability. What is needed are references significant coverage SIGCOV about this team, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide.
Statistics, team rosters, soccerway, Instagram, Facebook are not reliable sources. You need at least three reliable sources.
You should also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Whiteguru (talk) 21:29, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

  • FC Seoul is not listed on WP:FPL. Hence, it was perceived as semi-professional. I cannot explain why AFC Champions League is not listed on that page. Perhaps you can take that matter up with WikiProject:Football. Do an RFC. Get the league included.

On the other hand, Season articles have to comply with WP:NSEASONS. That tag will stay on the article until there is some prose on the page. "Some prose" means one or two paragraphs about the team during the season. Kindly do the needful. --Whiteguru (talk) 05:49, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

  1. This is where the conversation belongs, not on my talk page.
  2. Second point, I was looking for Korea, not South Korea. My bad.
  3. Unreliable sources are cited for in this article. Facebook is NOT a reliable source.
  4. Errors and omissions aside, the article still has to conform to WP:NSEASONS

--Whiteguru (talk) 20:59, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Whiteguru talp page

Hello Whiteguru,

FC Seoul is not a semi-professional association football team. FC Seoul is a fully professional association football team like Real Madrid CF, Manchester United F.C.. Articles about FC Seoul have general notability.

Besides, season article is about ongoing events. 2022 season is early stage.

At present, Article don't need additional citations. I think you made a mistake. Please remove tag.Footwiks (talk) 16:20, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

I think that you seem to be ignorant of the Asian football. FC Seoul is belongs to the K League 1. K League 1 is a fully professional football league. Please search in list at WP:FPL

Before attach tag, Please check out the fact thoroughly.Footwiks (talk) 16:13, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Please click the facebook source - FC Seoul Official Pre-Match Result

These sources are notice of FC Seoul's Official Facebook, not personal Facebook. You misunderstand the real meaning of relialble source.

Posts of Official Facebook is relialbe source but Posts of personal or private at not relialble source

Book, Website, Facebok, Istargram is just platform. The most important thing in relialble source is author or operator of post and contents.

FC Seoul's Official Website, FC Seoul's Official Facebook, FC Seoul's Official Instagram. They are all relialbe sources.

These days, Website is declined. Therefore, Many sports clubs only posted some notices in Official Facebook and Official Instargram. Some sports clubs only have Official Facebook and Official Instargram.

I've told you before. 2022 season is early stage, Please wait some prose.

Please admit your mistake and remove tag.

Let me say it again, Before attach tag, Please check out the fact thoroughly. Footwiks (talk) 01:55, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

@Footwiks: I just looked through some of those season pages, they are not that great. The lead doesn't say on any of the season pages how they performed that season. You could easily write a couple of paragraphs and cite those from news sources. There are sections with no data which, if they have no data, should simply be removed. Transfer activity? Surely there should be some and each transfer cited. If I was you, and you're a supporter of FC Seoul, then please improve those articles. 2021 FC Seoul season looks incomplete, what happened? Was the season abandoned? That season alone is confusing and the page looks incomplete. There is a hell of a lot to address before complaining about a generic template tag on the page. Govvy (talk) 08:38, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your arbitration and advice, I'will improve incomplete season articles soon.Footwiks (talk) 03:11, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Old Trafford

Please can you explain to me how Old Trafford is in the metropolitan borough and city of Manchester? Thank you. Stevo1000 (talk) 14:03, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

@Stevo1000: Greater Manchester, is the same as Greater London. your edit was doubling the same context and made it look like, Old Trafford, Old Trafford in the table. You should checkout the talk page on the current season. Are you going to do the same with clubs in the Greater London area? You should really think about it and UK geography thanks. Govvy (talk) 14:15, 3 May 2022 (UTC)
The difference is Greater London is a region - hence why it is simply shortened to London. However Greater Manchester is not - it is a Metropolitan county in North West England (which is a region). If that is your logic why are we not changing the Old Trafford article to being in Manchester? Perhaps we should add Old Trafford stadium to the Manchester article as well? Stevo1000 (talk) 18:36, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
@Stevo1000: You're better off complaining at WT:FOOTBALL not here. Govvy (talk) 18:43, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
I am just stating facts. Stevo1000 (talk) 21:36, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Harold Fitzpatrick

I'm not sure Fitzpatrick was born in Scotland. Another source states he was born in Liverpool and users in this forum where unable to establish that he was born in Scotland, rather they where able to find evidence that he was most likely born in Liverpool. Alvaldi (talk) 10:44, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

This source, which supposedly originates from a joint Everton & Liverpool Programme from 1907, states he was born in Everton. Alvaldi (talk) 10:47, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
@Alvaldi: I did start this on the talk page, Odd, the Luton sources I have say he was born in Ayr in Scotland, can always change it back or leave it blank. Govvy (talk) 10:51, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
Ah sorry, didn't check the talk page. I will post this there. Alvaldi (talk) 10:52, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
@Alvaldi: Does this source you found [1], does that say he played for Aberdeen F.C. too? Govvy (talk) 11:01, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
It says he "saw service, too, with Luton Town, Chesterfield and Aberdeen". Playupliverpool states he was stationed at at Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Cork. Vintagefootballers.com states "There is evidence that he was on the books of Aberdeen from October 1903 for a short while, without appearing in a senior match for their first eleven [..]". The Scottishleague.net forum mentions "Aberdeen (Sep 1901 trial?, no 1st XI)". Alvaldi (talk) 11:09, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Govvy,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Hey Govvy! I would like to apologize for the constant reverts... I guess we just have different viewpoints on editing and I am really sorry if I ruined your editing experience on this beautiful article. We both just want to make the article better but we have different ideas on what better is. I just have to say that these season articles for this wonderful club would be nothing without your years of hard work. Monaem Khan Raju

Hi. I saw the AfD on Monaem Khan Raju and found some sources in Bengali: [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. These are mostly mere mentions of him being named in squads and I cant find any English news sources. Theres a more detailed coverage of him regarding a controversy: [7] but the website shows security warnings when I open it. He also seemed to be the fprmer captain of Chittagong Abahani Limited. I am not familiar with football guidelines in Wikipedia so I cannot tell who is nitable here. Leaving the rest to you. Thanks Human (talk) 21:48, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

@A Simple Human: It would be more helpful if you posted this to the AfD page for Raju, you can simply do (*Comment) on the front of the post if you don't want to vote. Regards Govvy (talk) 23:16, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello Govvy,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12238 articles, as of 00:00, 13 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Restoring List of European Cup and UEFA Champions League winning players

Can we actually restore this article? In deletion review, it seem that some support the deletion of it. Can we find a way to approve the restoration? NextEditor123 (talk) 22:56, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

@NextEditor123: Umm, you can make your way over to Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2022 June 27#List of European Cup and UEFA Champions League winning players and make your voice heard. :/ Govvy (talk) 09:18, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Deletion review did not help to save this article. What can we do with this topic and datas? NextEditor123 (talk) 19:17, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello Govvy,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Here is a barnstar to show appreciation for the NPP reviews you did back in 2020. We realize this is late, but NPP fell behind in some coordination activities. We are just getting caught up. If you don't want to receive "old" barnstars, please just ignore this and reply (with a ping) to let us know not to send you any more. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:59, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

Hello Govvy,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Hi. I'm afraid it doesn't make sense to me. Ratajkowski was raised in the US and has never held British citizenship so "English-born" (which was added by an IP) should definitely be removed. Thedarkknightli (talk) 12:24, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

@Thedarkknightli: What on earth are you going on about, she was born in London, of course she is English born. And besides, there is a note right there not to mess with that statement. Govvy (talk) 12:46, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
@Thedarkknightli: I don't know, before ages ago, people changed it around so much, originally the lead was born in England is an American model, but people have messed about with it so much. She certainly can't be English, she doesn't really fit the modern criteria. But I really don't know the rules that well, app citizenship gov.uk Will give you some idea. Regards. Govvy (talk) 12:57, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
I don't know the rules that well either. I just follow WP:ETHNICITY. For example, the first sentence of Sergey Brin doesn't say Brin is "Soviet-born American" or "Russian-born American" regardless of his birthplace. Neither do Mila Kunis and Milla Jovovich.
