Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka

[edit]
Dear Gihan Jayaweera,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As a Sri Lankan editor, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK.

The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects.

With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors.

There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on.

See you on board, and Happy Editing!

Edit on Navjot Sidhu page

[edit]

Hi Gihan! Could you explain this edit? What "inappropriate edits" are you talking about? And what are these "usual standards"? Thanks. Editor5454 (talk) 18:02, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Yamaguchiๅ…ˆ็”Ÿ. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) personย on Arjuna Ranatunga, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. In addition to ensuring compliance with WP:BLP policy, please ensure that future edits maintain a neutral WP:TONE as expected of an encyclopedia. Regards, Yamaguchiๅ…ˆ็”Ÿ (talk) 18:25, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Arjuna Ranatunga. Thank you. Yamaguchiๅ…ˆ็”Ÿ (talk) 22:35, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing error

[edit]

Hello Gihan. You had made a few edits on the page Virat Kohli on 31 August. There's a referencing error in one of the edits wherein you've not defined the reference for ref number 308 here. Please check the policy on when and how to invoke a Refname. Thanks. Vignyanatalk 17:43, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Andrรฉ Nel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Providence (check to confirmย |ย fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQย โ€ข Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Kaushal Silva. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

Gihan: Can you explain your thought process to me regarding this article? It looks like 2 unrelated topics (except for the fish part) combined in one list.......can it be moved to List of introduced fish to Sri Lanka and call it a partial list?.....Let me know if you have questions or need help in any way....Pvmoutside (talk) 23:43, 2 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Gihan Jayaweera. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited International cricket in 2000โ€“01, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page AMI Stadium (check to confirmย |ย fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQย โ€ข Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Yakada Pihatu

Greetings. An internal error is appearing in the fourth reference of Yakada Pihatu. The error shows in preview mode. Because it's non-English, I can't fix it. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.--Georgia Army Vet Contribs Talk 19:43, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
