I found important mistake in Joey Hamilton article, I tried to correct it. [1]
But my English may be inappropriate, because I am Japanese. If you discover a mistake, I want you to correct it.--KANESUE 12:41, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
Notability of Caleb Clark
A tag has been placed on Caleb Clark requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. — X96lee15 (talk) 16:23, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Help 5/4/09
I know MMA is not your forte
but can you take a look at this for me?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:David.snipes/sandbox_4
Sadly the MMA people I know are not as helpful as the NFL person I know. But at least let me know if its any good. David.snipes (talk) 15:47, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Although I don't know much about MMA I'd say that that it is a pretty good article, but might I suggest go to My preferences then clicking on Gadgets and checking the box that says refTools as it adds a button to the editing toolbar (the bar right above the editing space that also contains the signature button) that when used completely simplifies that reference adding process by formatting it for you. Good job.--Giants27 T/C 18:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- ok I did that already, but how do I use it? David.snipes (talk) 20:10, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't worry I wasn't sure at first but this is how I found it:
- Next to this button: it will appear
- Click the button and the choices of Web, News, Book, Journal, Named references, Error check and Cancel will appear
- Usually I click News or Named references and with News you will be required to fill in the URL, but all the others are not required but recommended so just fill in as many as apply, the section for Reference name will be explained next
- 'Named references only appear when you or another editor types into the Reference name field, you can use anything relevant you want to fill that in
- Named references are used to cite multiple things with only one reference (see in use here and here).--Giants27 T/C 20:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Simple enough, I could use it.
By the way- I filled out the 1996 Panthers Roster (missing players) and am working on the redlinks. Anything you think I should be working on? I wonder how I get a Panthers Sub-group like other, lesser teams have (such as This team has.)David.snipes (talk) 20:58, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Good work, looks like you got everything I could think of and on the subproject thing you just create the project page (in this case it was be at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League/Carolina Panthers subproject and fill in the necessary stuff, however you have to have at least five interested parties (maybe it's three) who'd like to join and help out. I'd join it.--Giants27 T/C 21:03, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Told you I would be trouble part VII
ok.
Policy states: Where advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest.
Now, even though I am the NFL editor of a sports website I have ensured that I have not used it as a source or even made mention of it and used other sources.
There is a tag on a recently created page USA:MMA asking for more refences- I can add more, but they would be from an event I attended and wrote about. Since I would NOT be doing it for my website; How can I without someone else thinking it IS a Conflict? Sadly as only 8 members of the media were there and none of thier reports mention the new division.
I have 2 ways to go about it.
Let it get deleted for non references rather than take a chance of destroying the page and weaken Wikipedia as a source.
or
Create another USER ID and fake it- I take that as dishonesty.
Here is the quandry. Say Peter King is on Wiki and finds an error on Brett Favre's page(say wiki states his plane landed at the St Pauls airport and it landed in Milwalkee) , corrects it and uses his own column as the source. Does that not weaken the effort here? If you or I did so using his source that would be both credible and allowed. David.snipes (talk) 22:18, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Way #1 is way better than #2, #2 can get you blocked for sockpuppetry so don't do that. My advice is don't worry about the tags hundreds of articles have them asking for more or better references (heck more 3/4 of mine do). What I do with that refimprove tags is either I ignore them or I remove them. And yes you can use it unless it's a place like blogspot or bleacher report where anyone can come and write for it, in that case no. But if you have to be hired to write for it (i.e. paid) then you can add it.--Giants27 T/C 22:29, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well I have no desire to be a puppet, but I'd rather get in trouble for 1 than banned for 2. So based on your opinion, if USAMMA gives me the information directly, and I publish it, I can use it?
- By the way the Project page is up, looks like crap, but its up. David.snipes (talk) 22:42, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

CFL
How long have you been into the CFL?►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:02, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Haha that's what I thought. Kind of weird how you just picked a team and now you're all like "I hate that draft pick!" Do you even know who those guys are?►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:26, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- From what I can tell though, the CFL draft isn't as big a deal as the NFL draft. The CFL still has a huge crop of American talent that couldn't cut it in the NFL to pick from. The draft hardly seems as important for CFL teams.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- First part yes, second part no kind of they can sign some non-NFL talent after the draft (like Tray Blackmon) but all the guys drafted have to have lived in Canada for seven of the first 15 years of their lives. And the draft is really important because you have to have a certain number of Canadians on your roster or on the field or something like that. haha--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 02:40, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, but a lot of the talent doesn't come from Canada, so the draft isn't nearly as vital to a team as it is in the NFL.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:23, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- By the way, Tray Blackmon's the man. Too bad his dumbass just couldn't keep his life straight. He's a hell of a player.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:25, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ehhh....whatever that seems to be the story for everyone like Pacman, Billy Edelin and others then they're problems keep them from success.--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 02:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Half must be non-imports so it's pretty important in structuring your rosters. I don't know the comparative importance to the NFL draft though. While it's true that those who can play in the NFL will do so for the pure fact of the far greater salary, for many positions, a different style, sized, or speedy player can be differently valued in the NFL/CFL due to the differing rules and size of the field so be careful not to write off CFL players as "talent that couldn't cut it"; specific talents are valued differently in different games. DoubleBlue (talk) 21:33, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Well aside from the patterns of former NFL players going to the CFL, I'm also basing my judgment on the remarks of a few CFL players I've spoken to that have told me the talent drop-off from the NFL to the CFL is tremendous. The implication was it's quite amateur. Therefore, I think it's a valid assumption that most former NFL players in the CFL couldn't cut it in the NFL.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well there are plenty of quotes from those who have played both who say it's a fallacy. Equally talented athletes with differently balanced skills/size/etc. can be differently valued because of the different game. Of course the top tier of pure athletes will go to the NFL where they can rake in the fame and fortune but for the vast majority, it's not that different. DoubleBlue (talk) 23:31, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Who, Mike Byrne and Malik Jackson? haha--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 02:26, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

is the Sortable table nessasary or should they be like This? I can see adding the Black border and all- but is a sortable table nessasary? David.snipes (talk) 17:14, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- I like the idea the better we can make the articles the better, and it can be with the borders but it doesn't have to be.--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 19:34, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Last question for today
How do you get the new section tab on the top of the page?David.snipes (talk) 22:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Football players
Just a quick reminder that we don't want people to be filed directly in "People from (province)" unless it's absolutely unavoidable. A football player should be categorized in "(Province) sportspeople" instead, and if their birthplace is known they should also be categorized in the appropriate "People from (city)" or "People from (county)" subcategory. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 17:44, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah sorry about that, forgot all about it.--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 19:32, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- No worries. Oh, and just so you know, it's always okay to skip the city or county category if you're having trouble finding the right one; the sportspeople category is the one that should always be there. (Actually, it would even be okay to create new subcategories specifically for football players instead, but don't feel obligated to do so if you don't feel up to taking on the task.) Bearcat (talk) 02:20, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Malik Jackson
That's pretty weird about Malik's position. I know he's been a rush end before, but he's nowhere near his listed 230 weight, you can tell by looking at him. I'd say he's maybe 200, 210 at the max. He's closely to a safety than he is a defensive end, haha. Oh well.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:40, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah maybe Calgary will use him as a DE/OLB hybrid, I have no idea I just go by the stories or transaction wires. haha--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 12:17, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not that familiar with Jackson and, of course, he's just trying out for the job, but this is an example of what we were discussing before: The size and skills required in the Canadian game differ from the American one. Hulking, immobile defensive linemen are valuable in the NFL but would be a huge liability in the CFL where they line up a yard away from the scrimmage line, have more field width to cover, multiple offensive players in motion to keep in check, and far fewer running plays to guard. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:30, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Still, based on what I've seen of most CFL defensive ends, Jackson is still not nearly big enough.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:30, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone's arguing. We're just talking. I'm just commenting that I don't think Malik's big enough to play end even in the CFL. Looking at team rosters, that appears to be the case.►Chris NelsonHolla! 18:47, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think that you are likely right about him not making it but some of the best are in the low 200s. Cameron Wake was listed at 241, Fred Perry is at 240, Gavin Walls is 231, Kitwana Jones 227. DoubleBlue (talk) 18:56, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- It's true that his flexibility could be valuable as a back-up. DoubleBlue (talk) 19:07, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
There's no way Malik weighs 230 though. Probably closer to 200.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:11, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've seen that. They just used his listed height/weight from Louisville. Like I said, he's probably about 200 now.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:09, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

DYK Next update
I notice that you're adding hooks to the queues. As far as I know, people usually look at the history to see if someone else before they start adding hooks to prevent edit conflicts. I was adding to the next update queue and you edit conflicted me. It's especially important with an administrator because we'll usually add the articles to the queue when done. In any case, please finish out the next update and let me know when you're done so I can move it to queue #1. I expect to be here for at least a half hour. Thanks for your help! Royalbroil 13:09, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- There's 2 easy ways to deal with Wikipedia time. First, change it so history is converted to local time. Go to your preferences, then click the "Date & time" tab. Click the "Fill in from browser" button and you're done. While you're there, click the "Gadgets" tab all the way to the right. In the "User interface gadgets" section, add a check mark to "Add a clock in the personal toolbar that displays the current time in UTC (which also provides a link to purge the current page)." Now you can easily find the current Wikitime in UTC! Another cool gadget is "refTools, adds a "cite" button to the editing toolbar for quick and easy addition of commonly used citation templates." - it builds references for you! Enjoy! Royalbroil 13:24, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Please add credits to the "Credits" section when you're assembling sets in Next or Next next update. They're in a hidden div for each nomination on T:TDYK. Also, you shouldn't promote your own hook to the queue, especially when it has an outstanding question on it. It's also best to not promote hooks you've verified. Assembling queues
I appreciate the time you've put into preparing sets for DYK. I didn't mention this before because we were very low on verified hooks, but the DYK sets should be balanced and show a diversity of topics from around the world. Specifically, two hooks from the same country (usually the US) should not be next to each other, and two bio-type hooks also should not be next to each other. For guidelines on assembling hooks, see Wikipedia:Did_you_know/Additional_rules#Rules_of_thumb_for_preparing_updates. Shubinator (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- No problem.--Giants27 (t|c|r|s) 15:48, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- One other, slightly more urgent note: both you and JamieS93 (who is assembling the Next update while you assemble Next next) have chosen the Gonzaga cameo hook for your queues. He's using it as the picture hook and it, obviously, can't remain in both queues so it would be less complicated if you were to delete it from the queue you are assembling. Just fyi. Thanks. - Dravecky (talk) 17:35, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record. ~~~~~ |
DYK May 23
Hi. I added a late entry to May 23rd. I noticed that you cleared out all the newer ones, but wondered if you might have missed that one since it was farther down the page. Normally I wouldn't care so much, but it's my first DYK submission in nearly 3 years, so I wanted to be sure that I had done everything correctly. Thanks! —Willscrlt ( “Talk” ) 13:51, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for reviewing it. I pointed out where ALT1 and ALT2 can be found in the article. I guess Bibliography sections aren't normally considered prose, but the way I wrote the article, it really is prose and a significant part of the article. That's probably how/why you missed it the first time around. Are three alternates overkill? Based on past successful DYKs, which ones do you think are the best hooks (or at least most likely to make it to the main page)? Thanks again. —Willscrlt ( “Talk” ) 15:23, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm puzzled by your statement that the hook is not sourced - this reference clearly says that Primetime bought both cars from champions BAR, and this is a statement from BAR saying they'll be "absent from the racing grid this season". Thank you for your support
Unfortunately, my RFA was closed recently with a final tally of 75½/38/10. Though it didn't succeed, I wanted to thank you for your support and I hope I can count on it in the future. Even though it didn't pass, it had a nearly 2 to 1 ratio of support and I am quite encouraged by those results. I intend to review the support, oppose, and neutral !votes and see what I can do to address those concerns that were brought up and resubmit in a few months. If you would like to assist in my betterment and/or co-nominate me in the future, please let me know on my talk page. Special thanks go to Schmidt, MICHAEL Q., TomStar81, and henrik for their co-nominations and support. — BQZip01 — talk |
