Please do not add code to a Talk Page as you did to Talk:Sherin Ahmed. Just state what you want clearly. As per what the subject may or may not want on the page, it is |immaterial to Wikipedia. -- Alexf(talk) 18:52, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding adding code to talk page: I just copy pasted something from another wiki while I was almost a novice about wiki markup. I did not add any code knowingly or to violate anything. Just thought any clarification was needed for this. Ghazilenin (talk) 23:52, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Constituency numbers and timeless prose

[edit]

The relationship between Bangladeshi constituency numbers and constituency names is not stable. Although it is true that Bhola-3 was constituency 117 for the 9th, 10th, and 11th parliamentary elections, it was number 119 in the 8th parliamentary elections, and may be something else in the 12th. Academic and journalistic sources commonly use the constituency name alone. If they use the number at all, they do so only in combination with the name. The number is arbitrary, whereas the name conveys geographic information to the reader.

Wikipedians try to write in a way that requires a minimal amount of updating. One way to do that is to omit the constituency number. By doing so, if an incumbent is reelected, their biography doesn't need to be updated immediately, even if the constituency number has changed. The infobox of their article will still correctly say they are in office "– present". If you include the current constituency number, and that number changes, then the reelected MP's biography would have to be updated immediately to show their dates in "two" offices that are really just one. For example, if Bhola-3 becomes constituency 118 in 2023 parliamentary elections, and Nurunnabil Chowdhury wins reelection, their biography would have to be changed to show that they held the offices of "Member of Parliament for Constituency 117, Bhola-3" 2010-2023 and "Member of Parliament for Constituency 118, Bhola-3" 2023-present. That's why including the arbitrary constituency number is a bad idea.

Also, templates provide a number of aliases for the convenience of human editors, usually so they don't have to type as much, or don't have to remember which word is correct. In many cases automated bots and semi-automated tools then replace the aliases with the canonical word. Manually changing "language" to "lang" in citation templates, although it doesn't break how the page displays, is not productive for that reason. It will automatically be replaced by "language" again the next time one of those processes touches the article. --Worldbruce (talk) 15:13, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll keep these in mind. --Ghazilenin (talk) 15:20, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Majority parameter in Infobox officehold

[edit]

In this edit, you added |majority = Bangladesh Awami League to the infobox of a Bangladeshi politician. That's not how the officeholder parameter is meant to be used. In this context, "majority" means the difference in the number of votes between the winner and whoever came second. In British politics, this is a closely tracked number (e.g. [1][2][3][4]). Although it could be calculated for Bangladeshi elections, reliable sources almost never do. I don't know why the measure never caught on in Bangladesh, perhaps it isn't as meaningful because of the country's rapidly growing population, multiple election boycotts, and irregular elections interspersed with military or caretaker rule. Whatever the reason, Wikipedia should follow reliable sources and omit "majority" from the infoboxes of Bangladeshi politicians. --Worldbruce (talk) 21:33, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing it out. I did not read the description for this param. I found the use like I was changing profiles to mark the majority party for the term of the person. But I also noticed this param does not have repeats like term. Some people also have multiple parties at different terms. I found wikipedia does not have party param repeatable too. Maybe because its not normal for most western country politicians to change party. --Ghazilenin (talk) 16:13, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Template:Infobox officeholder has an "otherparty" parameter that can be used when a politician has changed parties. For a good example, see perhaps the most famous parliamentary case, Winston Churchill. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:05, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah thats nice! I thought that was for opposition party. I feel there need to have more elaborate explanations of each parameter and their possible usage. Not yet very well documented I must say.
I figured if 'parliament' param has a known combination Wiki hyperlinks the page automatically. Like for Bangladesh 'parliament' param has 'Jatiya Sangsad' as default value. And if one fills 'United Kingdom' it hyperlinks the UK parliament. This feature is not documented as I have found. Ghazilenin (talk) 18:30, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:10, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Graeme Bartlett:
While browsing through my own language Wiki, I figured that this article is missing in English, which seemed awkward that the world doesn't yet know the organic fertilizer and its other benefits which we learnt from very early days. We used to bathe sometimes using the raw residues from cow pulled traditional mustard oil machines at our village. And we even fed our cattles by mixing some of it in every food they take.
When it comes to creating an Wiki article I cannot just say I know it. I'd have to cite the sources of my information. So I did Google a bit and added the information from there. But if they feel promotional I would of course try to eliminate such traits from the sentences. But I did add few videos so that people can get to know some of the uses of this material. Ghazilenin (talk) 04:32, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo and thanks for starting this article about a very interesting writer. I was alerted to it because it linked to the article I created about the Barbellion Prize.

I see that you are not a particularly new editor, so please now try to remember a few of Wikipedia's standards:

  • We don't refer to someone by their given name in the article but by their family name - so "McGinnis", not "Jarred"
  • Section headings don't use capital letters except for the first letter and any proper nouns - so "External links" not "External Links"
  • There is a particular order for sections, with References coming before External links (see WP:ORDER for the full list)
  • We don't list social media accounts: just one official website as an External link. If there is no official website then one, only one, social media site such as LinkedIn or FaceBook may be added
  • Please be careful about spelling, especially of unfamiliar names: you had the "Hey Festival" (Hay) and his publisher as "Gallery Beggar" (Galley)

I've spent quite a lot of time tidying up the article and it's in a better state now than it was an hour ago! Next time you create a new article, please take a little more care to follow the WP:MOS and get it right first time. Thanks. PamD 16:23, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out all the mistakes, taking your time. I'll keep them in mind for next works. Ghazilenin (talk) 16:27, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hajera Mahtab moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Hajera Mahtab, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
