Correction on Iain Torrance

Dear Gaia Octavia Agrippa, In relation to your recent update on the article of the Very Reverend Dr. Iain Torrance, please note that he was indeed awarded the TD (= Territorial Decoration) in 1997. The “Efficiency Medal” was awarded to those who weren’t officers, which is not his case. So, the awards table should say “Territorial Decoration” not “Efficiency Decoration”. For this reason, I kindly request to update the information. As you might know, the TD is quite a rare survival these days and those who bear it should be given the due honour. Thanks and BRGDS, (Brunoptsem (talk) 13:14, 21 September 2022 (UTC))

P.S. On the Supplement to the London Gazette of February 21, 1995 page 2460, you will find Dr. Torrance listed. You may take the opportunity to correct the year to 1995. On the Wikipedia article Territorial Decoration, paragraph Criteria, it is explained a possible reason for confusion between the two terms: though it was called the 'Efficiency Decoration’ from 1930, when it was awarded to an officer it was called the 'Territorial Decoration' and officers used the letters TD until 1999. (Brunoptsem (talk) 14:44, 21 September 2022 (UTC))
Hi Brunoptsem. It does indeed say that in the article, however, that isn't its official name. The Efficiency Decoration (Territorial) was awarded to Torrance, as per the LG. You are right to say Territorial officers did/do use the post-nom TD, but calling it the Territorial Decoration is slang (for lack of a better term); the Territorial Decoration is rightly the pre-1930 medal.
As per the London Gazette: Firstly: It is ordained that the Decoration shall be styled and designated "The Efficiency Decoration" [...] Thirdly: It is ordained that the Decoration shall in all cases bear a subsidiary title to denote whether at the time the recipient qualified for the award of the Decoration he was serving in Our Territorial Army or in one of the other Auxiliary Military Forces of Our Empire; such subsidiary title being specified in the regulations hereinafter mentioned and inscribed on the bar-brooch of the Decoration
And as per the LG: Sixteenthly: [...] an Officer of Our Territorial Army, to the addition after his name of the letters T.D. and, if an Officer of one of the other Auxiliary Military Forces of Our Empire, to the addition after his name of the letters E.Dcitation
So, TD postnoms for TA officers -"yes", unofficially called the Territorial Decoration -"yes", actual name Efficiency Decoration or Efficiency Decoration (Territorial) -"yes".
But thank you for dropping by, I hope the above explains my edit. You've also pointed out the inaccuracies on the ED/TD page, so I'll be correcting those with citations. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 15:49, 21 September 2022 (UTC)
Dear Gaia Octavia Agrippa, thanks for the thorough explanation and the new details added to Torrance's biography. Please, in the medal bar, update the year the Efficiency Decoration (Territorial) was awarded, as it should read 1995 according to the text and references. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election voting closing soon

Voting for the upcoming project coordinator election closes soon, at 23:59 on 28 September. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. Voting is conducted using simple approval voting and questions for the candidates are welcome. The voting itself is occurring here If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:13, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
