Parvathy R Krishna

Sir, Why you added the article Parvathy R Krishna for deletion. He is a wellknown TV series actress and acted in a malayalam movie. (Shafeekmon (talk))

Interesting user

Hello, GSS. I just noticed this new user, who is mainly creating/expanding articles of a particular family members & their companies, e.g. they created Chandrashekhar Agashe & Sarvatra Technologies. They are active since 12 December 2016. There was a similar user who got blocked for socking on 5 December 2016 – user Simbalillyoreo. They also used to create/expand articles of this particular family, e.g. they created Dnyaneshwar Agashe, Mandar Agashe, Ashutosh Agashe, Brihans Natural Products Ltd., Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate Ltd., etc. The other things – which you mentioned at Simbalillyoreo's SPI – like Editor Interaction & the use of Visual editor also show connection between the two. As you filed the SPI against the master, it will be easier for you to identify their sock's behaviour. So, please have a look at this new user. And file an SPI if they seem connected to you. BTW, I haven't really analysed their behaviour & I might be wrong here. Thanks. - NitinMlk (talk) 20:43, 8 January 2017 (UTC)

@NitinMlk: Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I have filled the SPI as I also found some other similarities between Seadonkey1999 and the master. GSS (talk|c|em) 04:53, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of this sock. Your efforts also helped in deleting some of their mess. BTW, this person has created a handful of non-notable articles, along with adding a lot of user-generated content here. And it will take quite a bit of time to remove their mess. - NitinMlk (talk) 18:50, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
@NitinMlk: If you believe the articles created by the master does not pass specific notability criteria you can nominate those articles for deletion or use Template:Inline cleanup tags to highlight unreliable, user-generated or other sources which fails to establish notability. Cheers – GSS (talk|c|em) 07:09, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I am currently unable to spend much time here. But I will tag them in the future. BTW, thanks for all the help. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:13, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Question re: Kim Murphy

Hi GSS-1987, as a new editor, I'm trying to fully understand the template you placed here.

It talks about "self-published" sources, but all of the sources are from either the Los Angeles Times or Pulitzer.org. Can you please explain how those are self-published sources? Thank you. The Kingfisher (talk) 23:00, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

The Kingfisher: It's because the subject works for the Los Angeles Times which is not valid to support notability please see WP:USESPS. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 06:26, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
Okay, virtually all of the sources are now from sources other than the Los Angeles Times. I'll be removing the template. Thank you. The Kingfisher (talk) 06:41, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

BLAST RUSSIAN BAND

He had previously spent a number of years in the US playing in different bands . In states he met georgian musician Gia Iashvili they did few successful shows together and realised that it was great collaboration ! But unfortunately Nash had to return to Moscow because of family issues .While being in Moscow he decided to put the band together. Gia Iashvili also flew back and joined the band together with their old friend Alexandre "Khlap" Artchevski and the drummer Igor Meshkovsky . They decided to call the band BLAST. The unit came out very productive and within two month Nash Gia and Khlap completed their album "Pigs Can Fly" which was produced by talented producer from Manchester Mark Tolle At that time the Moscow club scene was booming and BLAST very quickly became the most popular indie band in the city. In 1998 band was picked up by the indie label "Apollo G Records" (Manchester, UK). They released their first album "Pigs Can Fly" and followed this with a UK club tour in 2000. In 2000 Gia and the drummer left the band and two musicians from Bulgaria Vlado Kostov and Valio blagoev ( drums & bass) joined BLAST. Few years later the band signed to Ghost Records UK and hit the studio recording the album F**K the industry with producer Graham Pilgrim. Ghost Records Musical Director Frank Perri and A&R manager Phillipe Palmer drew much attention to the Russian Rock Rebels and a place within the British music scene was forged. Regular tours of the UK and Europe have continued since that time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.91.210.97 (talk) 16:12, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Adminship

Hi, have you ever thought about filing a request for adminship? I see a lot of Asian related articles turn up at CAT:CSD (in fact I'd say the majority are from subjects in that area) and really could do with someone more local keeping an eye on them. You seem to have a good track record at CSD and AfD, have touched AIV and SPI quite a bit, are on the OTRS response team, and wrote a lot of geography articles during Wikipedia Asian Month - in short, you seem to have done it all. There are two things upthread on this talk page that are just minor "dings" on your track record (ie: Dionisio Pinilla and Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab/Tab header/Tab) but the former is more semantics, and the latter is an area of deletion many people don't go anywhere near. Obviously I will need to have a good and proper look at all your contributions carefully, but I seriously think you should give it a go. (Paging Samwalton9 who may also be interested). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:13, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

Ritchie333: Thank you so much for appreciating my work. Actually yes, I asked one of an admin to review my edits to check if I'm eligible for adminship and then if he can nominate me but unfortunately, he was busy (am trying to find that conversation) but I still want someone who can nominate me so please take a look at my contribution and then if you find me eligible for the adminship I request you to nominate me for the adminship (if possible) and also please don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong somewhere. Yeah! about Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab/Tab header/Tab I was a little confused to be honest because the page looked uncompleted to me. Thank you once again – GSS (talk|c|em) 18:26, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
I've had a bit more of a look. One possible issue is that while your standard of English is fine for normal communication (I assume you're a native Punjabi speaker, please accept my apologies if I've got that wrong), there are just a few too many mistakes on this talk page. (eg: "I asked one of an admin to review" -> "I asked an admin to review" or "I asked one of the admins to review") I don't see these problems obviously in any of the content you've created, though. Admins have to be excellent communicators, particularly when faced with someone upset at being blocked or having their work deleted. Plus in an RfA you will have to field questions and your answers have to be as well thought out as they can be. I think the best thing to do for now would be to file a poll at WP:ORCP and see what people think, then we'll review the situation. As you set up the introduction to the poll in your own words, that should alleviate these concerns. You have a clear need for the tools at CSD / AfD and could obviously help there; but admins get the entire toolset and responsibility for it, and that's what RfA voters will be looking out for. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:56, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, you are right I'm a native Punjabi speaker. I generally don't make this kind of mistakes while communicating with someone unless I'm in hurry like last night 😕 but I'll be more careful in future. I will go with WP:ORCP today and let's see if I can get a good response. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 03:58, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
@Ritchie333: I just started the poll now let's hope for the best. Thank you for your suggestion. GSS (talk|c|em) 08:01, 21 January 2017 (UTC)
Looks like the poll has gone well, and the general agreement is that if we start an RfA in about 6 months it should succeed. That all sounds about right. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:19, 6 February 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I think we should go with the general agreement and wait for about 6 months.  Thank you very much!GSS (talk|c|em) 14:27, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

Talkback message from Tito Dutta

Amnesty International India

Adding a quick message here re Amnesty International India. I noticed you tagged the article with potential COI. I'd like to clarify that my edits were not made with that purpose in the least - do please review it, and check the referencing again? I would appreciate that. Thanks Amnemonic (talk) 13:20, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello Amnemonic, I applied the COI tag as per my outer-wiki research. The article not yet reviewed by anyone so I would like to wait till someone other than me look at it. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 14:24, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Hello, and thanks for reviewing the article. I fixed the sources which referenced the Amnesty India website (as you had identified) - and added a variety of external sources. I took the livberty of removing the self-published sources tag you had added to it, as I identified, edited and fixed each self-published problem you identified. Since your review is complete, and other editors have also had a chance to look at the article, could you revisit the COI tag? Thank you for your kind attention.Amnemonic (talk) 11:29, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Tag bombing?

Regarding this[1], please read WP:RESPTAG specially the bold line "If you are going to put a tag on an article that proclaims it as seriously faulty, you should leave an explanation on the talk page of that article, even though the reasons seem plainly obvious to you." which will help to improve the page. --KartikeyaS343 (talk) 15:03, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

The explanation on the talk page is not necessary when the problem is obvious so I think you should consider on solving the issue rather than removing tags. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 15:11, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
I removed only those inline tags where the claim is explicitly mentioned by the subject itself and in accordance with the guidelines. The explanation on the talk page is not necessary when the problem is obvious doesn't seem to comply what WP:RESPTAG states so I will request you again to read it. If you have any COI for this organization then please declare it on the article's talk page. Thank you. --KartikeyaS343 (talk) 15:17, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
This account is only 4 days old and already knows about WP:RESPTAG. I agree with the concerns that GSS raised. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 07:11, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
@Doc James: You read my mind! having knowledge of this kind of guidelines and the use reFill is very uncommon for a day old user. GSS (talk|c|em) 08:45, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
Would be useful for them to disclose other accounts they might have used. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 08:49, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
@Doc James:, @GSS-1987: - I see. I have been using Wikipedia since 2011 and I know basic guidelines or at least I can find them using WP prefix. I had an account which I abandoned 2 years ago and never tried to recover it. This is my new and only account. I am familiar with Wikipedia codes and structure because I've used the Wikimedia software. I am not going to be a regular contributor buy if you have other concerns then feel free to ask on my talk page!. KartikeyaS343 (talk) 19:31, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello GSS,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 806 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Hello,

thanks for getting back to me. He has lots of newspaper mentioned, but they are regional newspapers. Like Sakal, Lokmat. He also had an interview on IBN Lokmat Marathi channel and both Z 24 Taas - Hindi and Marathi. Unless you do not support the social cause, he won't be noted so soon. But soon he shall be. Please if I may request. He is doing this for non-profit and I guess such a person needed to be flourished. As you and me all want, Youth of India to read? Globally also people are noting his stint and downloading the app.

I would please request to accept it. I will be obliged, Sir.

Sir, Globally it may be weak. But In India and in Maharashtra, it is gaining a strong foothold. I request you to please accept. Unless Wikipedia doesn't honor it, it won't be notable. And when yu google Amrut Deshmukh, you wold get 7-8 pages on him. Sir, youth of India wants him to flourish more than 1 lakh people. Someone sacrificing his professional life for the sake of masses and people writing blogs fo him. Cream of new like Z24taas, IBN Lokmat covering him on TV. Should give him some leverage on Notability. My humble request sir. As Wikipedia is a platform where, masses get more information on pathbreakers. And would be obliged if you could. Thanks Riddhi1981 04:45, 10 February 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riddhi1981 (talkcontribs)

Sir, also once he gets notable references like into Times of India or Forbes or get his website. I shall keep updating the Wiki Page. Sir, you have to give us this chance. Please be kind Riddhi1981 11:10, 10 February 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Riddhi1981 (talkcontribs)

Why do you consistently undermine my efforts in improving wikipedia, I have extensive knowledge on the topic and irish rugby so unless you possess a great knowledge on the topic and the subject in question please stop reverting my edits as i am attempting to correctly re-write the page in a factual manner, the player does exist and will require a wikipedia page soon however the current layout is incorrect and requires editing. Unless you have great knowledge please stop undermining my efforts as it is incorrectly worded and laid out for a rugby page. kind regards.Oreilly90 (talk) 14:27, 9 February 2017 (UTC)

7 more days to create or expand articles

Hello, thanks a lot for participating in Geographical Indications in India Edit-a-thon. We understand that perhaps 7 days (i.e. 25 January to 31 January) were not sufficient to write on a topic like this, and/or you may need some more time to create/improve articles, so let's extend this event for a few more days. The edit-a-thon will continue till 10 February 2016 and that means you have got 7 more days to create or expand articles (or imprpove the articles you have already created or expanded).

Rules

The rules remain unchanged. Please report your created or expanded articles.

Joining now

Editors, who have not joined this edit-a-thon, may also join now.

Reviewing articles

Reviewing of all articles should be done before the end of this month (i.e. February 2016). We'll keep you informed. You may also check the event page for more details.

Prizes/Awards

A special barnstar will be given to all the participants who will create or expand articles during this edit-a-thon. The editors, who will perform exceptionally well, may be given an Indic Geographical Indication product or object. However, please note, nothing other than the barnstar has been finalized or guaranteed. We'll keep you informed.

please give us some time to update the article according to Wikipedia guidelines. As i am completely new to Wikipedia give us some time to do the necessary changes . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amitbairagi (talkcontribs) 09:08, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello Amitbairagi, I took this page to AfD because its entirely depended on the sources about Hrithik Roshan's presence at the launch and the tag is a link to the discussion. The tag cannot be removed until the discussion is over. The discussion typically runs for 7 days. At the end of 7 days, the discussion is examined to determine if the consensus is to keep or delete the article. If the consensus is to keep, then the tag will be removed and the article kept. If the consensus is to delete, then the entire article will be deleted. You are, of course, welcome to join the discussion, but unless you can provide more independent reliable sources. Thank You GSS (talk) 09:18, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
Hi, as you can already guess, I have created the Casper the Friendly Ghost in film page, and I was just wondering how to create a featured snippet for it, and if you do not know, do you know someone who does, so they can help. DonJakes (talk) 13:33, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much! for the branstar. Am not sure if I get what you are asking but if you want to feature your article you may need to follow WP:FACR or just place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask for help there, am sure someone with more knowledge about it will come to help you. Happy editing – GSS (talk) 14:01, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Ali Asghar Khan (Politician)

An unknown user had added some text to Ali Asghar Khan Politician article which seems an attempt to defame the person without any proof. The case which has been mentioned by you is a sub-judicial matter so using such wording before court verdict would be injustice to an individual. So i am deleting the portion. If you want to add the this, i would request you to re-phrase it. Thanks

Hello Mnskhan, The reason why I reverted your edit was clear in edit summary (Unexplained removal of content). You are removing the information which is clearly sourced ([2][3]). Am reverting your edit again as it's well-sourced if you want to remove that particular information again I request you to start a conversation at Ali Asghar Khan's talk page and give a valid reason. Please don't forget to sign your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Thank You – GSS (talk) 04:38, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Hello, my main concern was the wording used in start like 'lofty claims being clean politician' 'illegal plaza' , from where the writer got this claim? and how one can decide illegal?Secondly, if you click the citation links both news headings are 'Court directs EPA to inspect sites of plazas in Abbottabad' and 'SC stops chopping of pine trees for construction of plazas'. Please review. Mnskhan 09:51, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
I have cleaned up the first line as you requested which was not sourced but the rest information is well sourced. If you still feel there is something wrong please add your comment at Ali Asghar Khan's talk page. Again please always sign your posts by typing four tildes (like this ~~~~) at the end of your comments. Thank You – GSS (talk) 12:22, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

NY Methodist

The NY Methodist page has not been vandalized. I have added information supported by major media sources including the NY Times. This page is largely generated by Lyn Hill, who is NY Methodist's director of PR, and has been noted to have the appearance of an advertisement. The bulk of this article is PR, without citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.189.34.1 (talk) 17:55, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Speedy Deletion of Bookeventz

Hey, The article created by me for Bookeventz was given a deletion tag in past 24 hours because some one was linking the page to various websites which was considered a promotional activity. I want you to know that the person creating links has been identified and has been warned against linking the page to different websites. Hence I request you to make the article on Bookeventz live again. I had created this article after enough efforts as this is my first article. Rahul Kanjani (talk) 05:54, 28 April 2016 (UTC)Rahul Kanjani

Hello Rahul Kanjani and welcome to Wikipedia, I took this page to speedy because the article didn't indicate why its subject is important or significant, and failed the general notability guidelines criteria plus you fail to cite reliable sources per WP:WEB. If you want to create your page again I suggest please create a draft and once you are ready with your draft, send it for the review also don't forget to cite reliable sources to pass notability. Thank You – GSS (talk) 15:14, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Not done @Joshua786: The article does not indicate the notability per WP:BIO plus the sources are not independently depended on the subject so until the discussion going on the AfD tag can not be removed. If you have any comments you are most welcome to join the discussion here. Thank You – GSS (talk) 11:35, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of Sunil Sharma

I have created a page yesterday Sunil Sharma, it has been removed. I have cited all important links even newspapers clips too, that man is first who got the highest package from India in 2012 . That page can be useful to the students and others readers too. Priya225 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:17, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

The article failed to indicate the importance or significance of a real person plus it also failed to pass WP:PERSON and the sources were not reliable per WP:RS to support notability. The article already has been deleted so many times so if you are thinking to re-create it please cite reliable independent sources to pass WP:Notability and WP:BIO. Please always sign your posts by typing four tildes (like this: ~~~~) at the end of your message. Thank You – GSS (talk) 13:31, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

speedy deletion tagging of Rambir singh sangwan

sir, can you please reason me for your request of speedy deletion of this page. Sangwansunny (talk) 11:16, 5 May 2016 (UTC)sangwansunny

The guy has also left the same message on my talk page. I requested that his autobiography be speedily deleted, and materialscientist deleted it about half an hour later.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Rambir+singh+sangwan
It was then recreated and you tagged it. Then Hullaballoo decided to remove the tag with the very rude comment of 'abusively hasty and inaccurate speedy tagging, claim of significance sufficient to defeat A7 evident', obviously unaware that it was an autobiography. This is what happens eh. David.moreno72 (talk) 11:49, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
@Sangwansunny and David.moreno72: The page has multiple issues: Autobiography, Unsourced plus I fail to find any source that claim WP:notability. After it defeats A7 I tagged it as WP:BLPPROD and since then not even a single reliable source been provided to support notability. GSS (talk) 12:31, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Hello 106.192.52.151, The article about Shrey Singhal does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject and failed to pass WP:NOTABILITY and WP:BIOMUSIC.  Question: Why you or someone else created this article in lowercase as Shrey singhal rather than Shrey Singhal is there any particular reason for that? Thank You – GSS (talk) 05:42, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, but please review

GSS, you are a great help to Wikipedia but this feud we are having is not. The link contains ORIGINAL photos that are not only 100% on topic, they are some of the best available on the internet for the Container Terminal topic. This has nothing to do with advertising and everything to do with the interest of our readers. The small advertisement at the bottom does not negate the quality content found on that page. Please review the media gallery again, the photos and also the FOOTER that mentions educational uses. Kaytranada's sexuality

Hey, I originally added the section about Kaytranada's personal life with the revelation that he's gay. I added as the source the interview in which he made that revelation. I don't know why someone changed the section to say that Kaytranada is bisexual, because that actually contradicts what he himself said in the article that I cited as the source. 2001:1C00:1307:E00:98F0:473:4E0F:5E47 (talk) 22:47, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Correct Revision History of DHURI PAGE: [REVISION Link Here ]
Dhuri is a city in Sangrur District in the state of Punjab, India. It is located on the Ludhiana-Sangrur State highway(SH 11) highway. The neighbouring Cities of Dhuri are Sangrur 14k.m in the South, Malerkotla 20k.m in the North, Nabha 30k.m in the East, and Barnala 35k.m in the West. It is a part of the historical Malwa region of Punjab.

I want to correct our city page but bots & mods again add redirect to district sangrur page. :( PLEASE CORRECT THIS REDIRECT IF YOU CAN. Thanks a lot.

Regarding the recent revert you made to 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. A request to you

I happened to visit the Punjab Edit-a-thon page today, where I found out a list of recently created articles by you. All of them cite unreliable user-generated sources, which are prohibited as per WP:USERGENERATED. e.g. census2011.co.in and onefivenine.com are managed by HK Jain & jagan eedula respectively, both of whom are common people. Same is true about the villageinfo.in. And all of your articles in that list solely cite these three websites. More unfortunately, it seems like the other 'top performers' are also citing these three user-generated sources.

Why don't you use GoI's official census website? e.g. censusindia.gov.in is the official 2011 census website and you can search any Indian locality here. Similarly, you can find PIN codes here, which is India Posts' official website. BTW, sorry for being a party pooper! - NitinMlk (talk) 17:46, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Hello NitinMlk, Actually sometimes it's really tough to find postcode for particular village/town on India Posts official website especially for me and yes i just noticed other 'top performers' at Punjab edit-a-thon are citing same sources. I think because I was the first who started creating geographical articles at Punjab edit-a-thon and by looking at my performance other users started the same maybe because it's easy to create geographical articles. Anyways thank you so much for the advice and I will look forward to update all the non-rs sources with reliable sources and yeah party poopers are always welcome as far as they have a worthy reason. Cheers – GSS (talk) 18:48, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
@GSS-1987: You are right that finding reliable sources for Indian villages is next to impossible. In fact, censusindia.gov.in is more or less the only reliable source for these villages. BTW, it would be great if you could explain the above points to the other two 'top performers' because you seem quite social & they would take it well. On the other hand, I, with my red-linked username, will look like a tormentor. :) BTW, keep up your brilliant work! - NitinMlk (talk) 14:53, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Sure NitinMlk, I will ask them for the same on their talk page to use censusindia.gov.in rather than other three user-generated sources hope they take it serious and yeah ur true sometimes some users don't take it serious if you have red-linked username. Thank you for your advice once again. Cheers – GSS (talk) 15:21, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

✅ Done @NitinMlk: I have requested and explained the above points to the other two 'top performers' at their talk page. GSS (talk)

@GSS-1987: Thanks! I forgot to tell you that, like most GoI's creations, the censusindia.gov.in sucks. And it might not load many times. In those scenarios, you will have to revisit it after few hours or may be the next day. That's why I saved the relevant cited page of Kotli Than Singh at the Wayback Machine. - NitinMlk (talk) 21:04, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
@NitinMlk: Yes you are right it happen most of the time and in that case, Wayback Machine is the best option. GSS (talk) 14:40, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

OAAA Wikipedia Page

Hi there,

I'm the OAAA (Outdoor Advertising Association of America) digital content coordinator and recently it has come to our attention that a pr scam artist deleted our page and offered to "rebuild" it for a fee. I've been trying to reinstate our page but I keep having my content deleted. This time it says due to copy write infringement.

I'm linking everything on the page to content on our site that is open to the public and not material violating copy write laws. Thsi is basic association content we want the public and members to see.

Can you help me? I really need this nightmare of a task to be over with. I'm not familiar with Wikipedia editing at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Billboard OOHAd (talkcontribs) 20:09, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Okay, as an update I'm updating the first paragraph with new language but still sourcing. Let me know if this is more along the lines of what needed to be changed.

Again, I'm not familiar with this and honestly just trying to get this done by staff meeting next week. Billboard OOHAd (talk) 21:07, 8 August 2016 (UTC)BillboardOOH Ad (or Kate)

Hello Billboard OOHAd, I reverted your edit because the contents was directly copied from this and some other websites. Please note Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted material, including text or images from print publications or from other websites, without an appropriate and verifiable license also in your last edit you failed to cite reliable third-party sources to support your change and per WP:SPS self-published media are largely not acceptable. In future when you add any information please include third-party reliable sources to support your changes and also please read WP:TONE and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not to learn more. Happy editing – GSS (talk) 12:34, 9 August 2016 (UTC)
Okay so the language that I added was not from the site but just a summary. So since it wasn't copied language it just needs other third party sources correct?
We had a page prior, is there anyway to just get that back? It was up for years without issue or being flagged but our last manager didn't save the html code. Billboard OOHAd (talk) 13:06, 9 August 2016 (UTC)Billboard

✅ Done. GSS (talk) 11:44, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Sorry, but failing NFILM isn't a valid reason for speedy deletion. The only areas that can be deleted for lack of indicated significance (not notability...) are people, organisations, named animals, web content and organised events (under A7), or recordings that are not notable where the performer does not have an article here (A9). Everything else had to go to prod or AfD (where notability rather than mere significance is taken into account. I agree that the film is not notable, but it'll have to go the seven days (and then the AfD when someone removes the prod, probably). Peridon (talk) 18:13, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Peridon, That's fine I knew it will happen lol was just trying to give a try if it can happen in this way but yeah the film is not notable not even close to WP:NFILM so if someone removes the prod without providing any reliable source I will take it AfD for sure. Cheers – GSS (talk) 07:22, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello Anoptimistix, The page has some issue which needs to be fixed, no doubt you cited reliable sources (e.g. zeenews.india.com) but the source remain self-published because the subject of the article works for Zee News so it need additional Third-party sources to support notability. You can find more sources about Rohit Sardana by clicking on any link below (e.g. news) but please avoid citing sources from zeenews.india.com or its parent website(s) also the article must be written from a neutral point of view please read WP:NPOV to learn more.

This is regarding my page S.Aishwarya which you had changed to S. Aishwarya. Could you please change it back to S.Aishwarya because that is the name of the person and it would be really helpful if you could kindly change it back from S. Aishwarya to S.Aishwarya. people would generally search as S.Aishwarya and not S. About the Notability of Junkai Wang

Hi GSS,

Sorry that I'm not familiar with the rules and broke your redirect. I have changed the draft of Junkai Wang for several times but still could not meet the request of notability, could you please kindly tell me which part of my draft have problems? or what kind of materials do I need to add in?

Thanks. Look forward to your reply.

Template message added to David Joy (author) wiki

Responding to message sent, "It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from David Joy (author). The template message regarding "listed sources may not be reliable" was removed from the page because all cited sources link directly to primary documentation. The citations for book publications are direct references to the publishing houses (i.e. Putnam Books of Penguin Random House, and Blair Publishing), the citations for awards and honors are direct references to published news articles and/or press releases from the organization responsible for the award or honor, the citations for stories and essays are direct links to the publications where the story or essay appears, the citations for the interviews and television appearances are also direct links to the publications where the interviews appear, and any and all other documentation is cited by information obtained from the author's official site. All of these references adhere to what is deemed a reliable source by "Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources" criteria (i.e. the definition of "published" and "news organizations" in regards to "statements of fact."). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.135.212 (talk) 14:39, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Blocking policy

Conversation with Sandeep Gill at SPI

Comments by other users

Accused parties may also comment/discuss in this section below. See Defending yourself against claims.

  • This might be a case of mere suspection. This user has contributed to Punjabi Wikipedia as well unlike the other user who has only made some contribution to English Wikipedia only. The block should be lifted so he can keep contributing.--Satdeep Gill (talkcontribs 08:06, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
  • @SpacemanSpiff and Bbb23: It must be a case of meat puppetry or undisclosed paid editing because this user repeated the same trick (adding surname within brackets) which earlier used by other socks on multiple pages and I don't think any normal new user do that on the particular name which already has a deletion log. GSS (talk) 14:18, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Samdeepsinghone was registered on Oct 6, 2016 at Punjabi Wikipedia and made only 8 edits so far (verify). GSS (talk) 14:41, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, this is a new user on Wikipedia itself but I just wanted to point out that there is a difference in the activity of this user. A normal new user would not know the gravity of creating an article that has already been deleted. Can someone please check the unblock request from the user and ask for more clarification if required ? --Satdeep Gill (talkcontribs 02:44, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Satdeep Gill: Don't you think its really unusual a new user repeat the same thing that master and other socks has done. This user added surname in brackets and I don't think any new user do that rather than naming it simple. Am also not getting why you are very much interested in his/her unblock I never saw you doing this before on any SPI, earlier you said this user is active on Punjabi Wikipedia where s/he only made few edits. GSS (talk) 03:37, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@GSS-1987: I am requesting for unblock because the article has been restored and that we can let the user contest the deletion of the article. I just said that this user has contributed to Punjabi Wikipedia which makes the activity different from other editors. Although it is unusual but we should also not rule out that the use of brackets might just be coincidental. This is causing harm to Wikipedia as other articles created by the user are also up for speedy deletion. --Satdeep Gill (talkcontribs 04:07, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Satdeep Gill: Well likewise the master AwardPunjabi has contributed to Wikinews which can not make him unrelated/different to other socks. There are some more coincident you may look. Samdeepsinghone repeated the same contents at Giddarbaha which earlier made by Harwy134 and other socks see diff here and here. Samdeepsinghone also repeated the same behaviour Irregular punctuation see here by Samdeepsinghone and here here and here by others. GSS (talk) 04:36, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Okay. There are some similarities here. I would like to see what the user has to say about this.--Satdeep Gill (talkcontribs 12:43, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Sure take your time and let's see if s/he tell the truth. GSS (talk) 13:36, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Found some more behavioral evidences, Samdeepsinghone repeated the same thing which Rahul0500 did at the time of his block as when Bbb23 posted block message on Rahul0500 talk page he then requested unblock within the same template rather than adding the {{unblock}} template at the bottom of his talk page and Samdeepsinghone also did the same mistake (See diff here and here) also the use of very is common in both users (e.g. user Rahul0500 said from this very moment and Samdeepsinghone said At that very time see here and here). GSS (talk) 18:47, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Tokyogirl79 Yeah as per the behavior of this editor seems more related to the group and last night I realize one more thing about Irregular punctuation which Samdeepsinghone denied on his talk page by saying I cannot distinguish a irregular punctuation mark as it was a mistake made by me but I saw his Facebook profile and almost on every post he added Irregular punctuation which are more related to the group Rahul0500 (e.g. this post). GSS (talk) 05:37, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

I understand now that there is a lot of behavioral evidence in this case but I would just like to ask that how can a user contribute if he has been wrongly blocked ? I mean what is the enwiki policy on this ? And do we insist that users once blocked must not be able to contribute ever ? --Satdeep Gill (talkcontribs 06:34, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
@Satdeep Gill: If a user been blocked they can request unblock by simply adding {{unblock|reason here}} at their talk page along with a explanation please read Wikipedia:What to do if you are blocked and WP:BANHAMMER. You can also read Defending yourself against claims at SPI. If a user actually is guilty of sockpuppetry, and want to get a second chance at editing, they can follow these steps listed at WP:SOCKBLOCK but Sockpuppeteers aren't often unblocked—since they've acted dishonestly, it's hard to believe them—and the administrators certainly aren't going to unblock the sockpuppet account. Invitation from Wikipedia Asian Month 2016

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.

This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.

Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.

Thank you for considering! --AddisWang (talk)

John Gilbert

Hi, could you please redirect John Gilbert (scientist) to Non-stick surface. I don't know how to do it. His experiments using the fluorinated polymer as a surface coating for pots and pans helped usher in a revolution in non-stick cookware. But I don't think there enough sources for him to warrant a separate article. Thank you very much — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.238.110.55 (talk) 19:29, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Punjab villages

Hi there, great job creating all those articles on the Punjab villages! It's impressive that those are not mere 1-2 sentences stubs! Just one suggestion: if the article contains the category "Villages in X district", it should not contain the parent category "Villages in Punjab, India". Since "Vilages in X district" is a child category of "Villages in Punjab, India", the article is already included in the category tree. See WP:SUBCAT. Once again, thanks for all the new articles. utcursch | talk 03:35, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello GSS,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 806 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

Tanjim Ashraful Haque Reply

Sorry but have I got my wires crossed? The deletion discussion ( Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tanjim Ashraful Haque ) shows it was speedied is this why you are saying it was not deleted via DD? Either way should it go to AfD again? Paste Let’s have a chat. 11:02, 7 December 2016 (UTC)

@Paste: The reason of the deletion was G11 (Unambiguous advertising or promotion) see deletion log. You can go with the AfD again or becasue it was an accident that you applied G4 you can try other speedy deletion criteria if you feel the article has notability issues. Speedy deletion declined: Dionisio Pinilla

Hello GSS-1987, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Dionisio Pinilla, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: known for his work on the Australian TV shows - is an assertion of importance sufficient to preclude A7. i have no opinion as to whether he would pass AFD - you'd need to do WP:Before to decide that. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. ϢereSpielChequers 19:37, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

WereSpielChequers, Thank you very much for your message here. I'm not sure if you saw the sources because all of the sources fails to verify the claim of his acting or musical career and I personally don't believe in usergenerated IMDb profiles even Google fails to show anything to support his role in any show as claimed in the article. His name was added in Tricky Business (UK TV series) and Packed to the Rafters by the creator of Dionisio Pinilla which are still unsourced (see here and here). GSS (talk) 06:06, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi GSS, if you think its a hoax then that's a different CSD criteria. From the sounds of it you did enough for an AFD nomination of the page. Just because it doesn't meet the A7 criteria doesn't mean it would meet stricter standards such as notability. ϢereSpielChequers 12:20, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
WereSpielChequers Nah, can't blindly call it a hoax because it can be the case of an uncredited supporting cast which is very common and the available sources do support him as an artist but fail to establish the notability that's why I choose A7 rather than G3. Thank you – GSS (talk) 13:35, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
OK. If he's in the cast but you don't think he is sufficiently highly listed to be notable then I'd go the AFD route rather than A7. Sometimes that does mean using AFD when you are very very confident that it will be deleted. ϢereSpielChequers 17:01, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

WereSpielChequers, The claim of significance was not credible that's why A7 was there but anyways thanks for your tips and suggestions I will keep in my mind. I have nominated the article for deletion becasue I belive the subject is not yet ready to be on Wikipedia. Have a great day ahead. Thank you – GSS (talk) 18:05, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello Rockystar07, I nominated the article because it fails to meet the requirement at WP:NACTOR and as per WP:TOOSOON the subject is not yet ready to have a stand alone article on Wikipedia. He has only played supporting roles in a couple of tv shows and I can not find any decent independent coverage about the actor in reliable sources. Thank you – GSS (talk) 07:12, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Ok..but i was hoping it to stay there as he is playing negative lead in the show kasam tere pyaar ki... and now the page is gone..plz help me get it back and its ok if its on hold bcz of WP too soon... Rockystar07 (talk) 15:33, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Rockystar07: The article was deleted becasue it fails to pass WP:NACTOR and WP:GNG so you need to wait till the subject meets the requirements at WP:NBIO. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 17:00, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Ok !!!! So please help me out and lemme know what references or what things should i link and submit in order to get the page back.Rockystar07 (talk) 19:55, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Edit Conflict?

It appears that we had an edit conflict on Arimalam Google Boys Arimalam. It appears that we were bumping into each other in reviewing the page. I see that it has now been deleted, which is what we both had in mind. We just may have had different ideas as to whether it warranted a speedy or needed a PROD. I think that everything is all right. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:32, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

It also appears that the deletion criteria included G5, which is sockpuppetry. Yuck. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:34, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Robert McClenon Yeah! seems like we both were on the same track but it ended up with G3 and G5 (see SPI). GSS (talk) 17:36, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for filing the SPI. With crud articles, however, I think that we agree that it is not important how to get rid of them as long as they are gotten rid of. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:16, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Unmark 'speedy page deletion of my page'

HI GSS,

Please unmark speedy page deletion of my page 'Jeet Gian (author). I have just created that page, and I am still putting content. Please do NOT delete it.

Thanks Pri D (talk) 15:43, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Pri D: I moved your article without leaving redirect behind because the previous title (Jeet Gian (author)) was having unnecessary disambiguation as per WP:NCP which is currently nominated for speedy deletion (A10) because, it's duplicates an existing topic so please find you article at Jeet Gian. Thank you GSS (talk) 16:16, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Hi @GSS So does that mean Jeet Gian is a my actual page and I should continue to edit Jeet Gian and i should NOT edit (Jeet Gian (author)) ? Also is Jeet Gian this page live and approved by you editors? Regards Thanks much Pri D (talk) 16:42, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
@Pri D: Yes, you are right. GSS (talk) 16:47, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

HI @GSS,

Thank you so much! and thank you so much for making my page live!

Regards Pri D (talk) 16:56, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

G2

Hi, GSS-1987, why did you tag Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab/Tab header/Tab and Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab/Tab header/Spacer for speedy deletion under the G2 criterion? They're not test pages, and honestly I'm not sure how one could even mistake them as such. Writ Keeper  17:13, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Ditto with Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Punjabi cinema task force/Participants; it's not a test page, and A10 certainly doesn't apply, since that's an article-space criterion only, and this page isn't in article space. What's the meaning of this? Writ Keeper  17:16, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Writ Keeper: So what you suggest? shell I go with the MfD? as am not familiar with the speedy on such pages and I applied G2 because both pages includes incomplete coding. GSS (talk|c|em) 17:27, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
The first two aren't incomplete code, they're parts of a whole: those templates are transcluded onto Wikipedia:WikiProject_Punjab/Tab_header, where they form part of its styling code. Tab header is in turn used on Wikipedia:WikiProject Punjab. I don't see why they would need to be deleted at all. These are things you should check before tagging an article. The participants page is very obviously not a test page, though. Yes, if you want something deleted that's in the WP: space, and it doesn't actually fit any of the CSD criteria, you should send it to MFD; G2 isn't a catch-all criterion for any page you think should be deleted (and neither are any of the other criteria), and you shouldn't try to circumvent policy by trying to treat it like one. Writ Keeper  17:36, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Writ Keeper: Oh and I thought it's an incomplete coding lol my bad, So if they're a part of a page then I don't think MfD is needed and as you have much more knowledge than me I request you please take a look at this discussion and share your opinion. Thank you for the tip and wish you a very Happy New Year. GSS (talk|c|em) 18:04, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
No problem, happy New Year's to you, too. Just take a little care with the CSD tags in the future; we admins sometimes delete without doing our own due diligence (I speak from personal experience :P ), so the more eyes on these kinds of things, the better. I'm one of Bish's many talk page stalkers, so I was already at least vaguely aware of that thread. I'll take a closer look presently Writ Keeper  18:11, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
Writ Keeper: Lol that's kinda secret but don't worry I won't disclose 😉 and yeah I don't do CSD in WP: space usually but if I do in future I'll take care of it. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 04:48, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Startup City Magazine

Hello GSS-1987. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Startup City Magazine, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 cannot be applied to journals or newspapers. Thank you. SoWhy 16:18, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your notification. GSS (talk|c|em) 04:36, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Diljit acts in Hindi films and may also appear in Hollywood films someday, it doesn't mean he is not Punjabi. Diljit proudly self identifies as a Punjabi (in Mumbai (Bollywood) also) and therefore please revert your edit and respect Diljit's and the communities unique existence.

Anti-Punjabi activity.

Reviewing your history,[4] it has come to my attention that you are participating in anti-Punjabi activity on Wikipedia. Removing the term Punjabi from articles and deleting Punjabi articles, categories and lists. I request you stop! JassiDosanjh (talk) 09:37, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

Doug Weller can you please take care of this too. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 09:40, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
