WikiProject Konkan

Hello Fylindfotberserk, I just noticed that there is no WikiProject for Konkan, also I noticed your contributions to Konkan, if you are interested in Konkan then why not start WikiProject for Konkan. I have also created a subpage for the editors to whom I have asked the same question, you could find it here. Also I request you if you are interested in this WikiProject then could you ask other editors about there interest in this WikiProject. Regards ExclusiveEditor (talk) 15:44, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

@ExclusiveEditor: SO nice of you. I'll definitely try to contribute. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:53, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, F7 (invalid fair-use claim) subcriterion a has been deprecated; it covered immediate deletion of non-free media with invalid fair-use tags.
  • Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.

Technical news

  • When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)
  • Code to support some very old web browsers is being removed. This could cause issues in those browsers. (T277803)

Censoring Afghan Sikh Wars

@HistoryofIran seems to be concerned with the the Afghan-Sikh wars article. Can you help me out brother please. I put a lot of effort into it and he only keeps information relevent to himself, and does not make any contribution towards the article. @BorisTheBulgar: Thanks for asking. I'm not very knowledgeable on the topic so it would be better to gain WP:CONSENSUS in talk page first. If necessary, you can get outside opinions per WP:RFC and WP:DRN. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi, can you help?

As you may have seen the lead section of the Agra article is messy. Some lines and conclusions are from before I rewrote most of the article. I have no idea how to start to fix it. Can you help? 16AdityaG09 (talk) 03:38, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi 16AdityaG09, the lead sentence/pragraph looks OK to me. Apart from it, I agree the lead requires some expansion/changes. I'll try to help, but feel free to expand it. You can take GA status Delhi, Mumbai as standard. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:17, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Need some advice

Hi I was going through the page "Rohnat" which is a village in Haryana. In the page, a lot of times devnagari script has been used in (). I wanted to know if that is how it should be. Thanks! Lone Warrior 007 (talk) 05:24, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Whoops, forgot to ping you @Fylindfotberserk: Lone Warrior 007 (talk) 05:26, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

@Lone Warrior 007: You mean at Rohnat#History? Well, I do not know any policy barring the use of foreign/Indic Script in article bodies, except that it is typically avoided if unnecessary since it is an English Wikipedia. For example "Birhad Bairagi (बिरहड़ बैरागी)", "Dhab Johad" (ढ़ाब जोहड़) and "Lal Sadak" (लाल सड़क), etc are names of people/places/streets and seem unnecessary to me and the English names themselves are transliterations of the native ones, not to mention the meaning of the said terms are also provided in parentheses in some case. And we are not dealing with "etymology" either. Yeah WP:NOINDICSCRIPT applies in the lead and infoboxes, which is not the case here. I believe you can remove them if you wish- Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:31, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

@Fylindfotberserk: thanks a lot. I think I will remove them. Lone Warrior 007 (talk) 06:38, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Also how did you make the article a link in your message? Lone Warrior 007 (talk) 06:41, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

@Lone Warrior 007: Which one? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:43, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Indian Caste Warriors

Hi Fylindfotberserk, do take a look at the contributions made by this user. Seems to be another caste keyboard warrior. Thanks. HinduKshatrana (talk) 16:16, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

@HinduKshatrana: This one doesn't look like a new user. But they seem to have restored edits by another, which seems sourced, though they removed some. Perhaps discussion at the talk page and perhaps WP:DRN is required. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:36, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

user:HinduKshatrana atleast tag me would you. And what do you mean by caste warrior? Going through your edit history you seem to be a better candidate for that label not me. and i only reverted your unexplained reverting of constructive Sourced contribution made by 7+ different editors reverting such large number of edits without any reason is a obvious vandalism. EDIT WAR on INDIC TEXT (sorry)

sorry for the silly thing i did but I was just willing to add the official language text and not in all Indian languages. the article you have referred to is to stop that confusion for indian articles agreed BUT what about the OFFICIAL NAME OF A GOVT POSITION AND THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE. all the other Countries having a president or prime minister of NON ENGLISH nations have a SECONDARY NAME in their OFFICIAL language, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan all. PLEASE THINK ON THIS AND TRY TO ADD THIS AN EXCEPTION to the indic text rule which already has many exceptions --Karan.jr.Singh (talk) 16:55, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

@Karan.jr.Singh: It is a blanket ban, since people in the past tried to game the system. It is after multiple RfCs and consensuses since 2012. See [1] and [2]. Going against that is disruptive. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:00, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
As for the exception, you can try raising it at WT:INB project, where this policy got the affirmation. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:05, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Age of Empires II

Ah! I'm so sorry about the order at the top of the page, I thought the issue was fixed in AWB, and I guess my brain decided to break when looking at the changes (the second time). Thanks for fixing it. Pbrks (talk) 16:13, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

@Pbrks: That's OK . I wonder why it is not getting fixed. Quite a few editors have requested that over the years. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:21, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
It has been fixed in the most recent AWB snapshot, which of course, I wasn't running. Hopefully they'll release a full new version soon. Pbrks (talk) 17:31, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
@Pbrks: Ah.. that's why. Seems like a lot of AWB users are not using the recent snapshot. I've been doing this MOS:ORDER thing after AWB edits quite frequently . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:39, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Help (ethnic groups)

Articles related to ethnic groups from Assam are persistently the victim of WP:PROMO. What do you think could be done with it? Chaipau (talk) 13:19, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

@Chaipau: Obviously. What can we do besides being vigilant and requesting for protection whenever/whereever necessary? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:43, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
@Chaipau: Saw this guy in another article here. Is this Sairg? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:56, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, there is another one. Currently lying low. They use IP addresses as well. Look at [3] and [4]. Chaipau (talk) 15:05, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
@Chaipau: Facepalm Facepalm , We need ECP on many of those articles. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:14, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes. They stop at nothing. It is an industry, if you look at Sairg and QwertyWander. Chaipau (talk) 15:26, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
ANI report Chaipau perhaps? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:40, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, that's a good idea. Let me get to work on this, might take a couple days. Chaipau (talk) 17:29, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
Chaipau Best wishes. Tell me when you file it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:39, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Bokaro Steel City

Hi,

I was looking in to [Bokaro Steel City] and found that you had raised a concern :

It has been requested that certain historical revisions of this page be redacted by an administrator under criterion RD1 (Blatant copyright violations), because the page's history contains significant copyright violations of http://bokaro.jharkhand.org.in/2009/05/about-bokaro-steel-city.html (Duplication Detector report · Copyvios report) that have been removed in the meantime.

The wiki article was written by me back in 2005 and edit it few times a year for updates.

The page http://bokaro.jharkhand.org.in/2009/05/about-bokaro-steel-city.html being referred to as the copyright owner is a blog which blatantly copy pasted the whole wiki article and included some of my images as well 4 years after it was written i.e. on May 2009!! Now instead of wiki trying to mark the blog as copyright violator, it marked the article itself as copyright violation and removed the complete text which I wrote over years. This is practically inversion of justice.

If you wish to seek more evidence, I can pull that up from the page's history itself. Just quoting an example: The image https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bokaro_Steel_Plant_Main_Gate.jpg was taken by myself and uploaded to wiki in 2006. The blog simply copy pasted in it. The image being post in wiki was posted under GFDL but the blog does not attribute it back to wiki (and similar more web articles and even videos of bokaro has used the image without attributing it back - and I am fine with it). Still it will be plain wrong to mark the original content as copyright violation and the copied content as original. The copied blog itself does not claim any copyright over the text as well.

If you agree, I will be more than happy to restore back the content. Do affirm. Sandyiit (talk) 21:21, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Can you help restoring the second source, the zeenews one and third also huffingpost one. The link are not found. Heba Aisha (talk) 19:02, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Done, myself. Heba Aisha (talk) 14:31, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Problematic editor

Hi, there is a disruptive editor on the Sylheti Nagri page. He keeps reverting my edits, even though my edit is closer to what the source exactly states. He is now threatening to report me. UserNumber (talk) 15:26, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Can you just move Kanara to Karavali ?

Kanara is an obsolete word and barely anyone recognizes it as so, while Karavali is how it is identified. I am local resident. I wish to do it myself but it says "The page could not be moved, for the following reason:

The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid.

Please choose another name, or use Requested moves to ask for the page to be moved.

Do not manually move the article by copying and pasting it; the page history must be moved along with the article text."

since Karavali is a page redirecting to Kanara itself. I am copy pasting this text to other seniors I know, so don't be surprised if anyone does it before you. Thank you.
