Coordinates

[edit]

Thanks for adding the Big Things coordinates. I was planning to do it some time, but could never work out a good method of finding them. I'll look into the template issue and see if I can work out what is going on, as it was working in the past, or so I thought. - Bilby (talk) 10:00, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thanks a lot. I was planning to add coordinates for a lot of Big Things, but after realising the infobox didn't work, I decided to hold off, since I have absolutely no idea how to fix it (I started wikipedia a week ago). Please message me when you have fixed it and thanks again. Forentitalk 10:35, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined

[edit]

Hi Forenti. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I just wanted to inform you that I declined to delete Thakuri, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion under criterion A7 because of the following concern: "db-club" Please review the criteria for speedy deletion and especially what is considered Non-criteria. In future you should rather tag such pages for proposed deletion or start an appropriate deletion discussion. Regards — Sebastian 08:23, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a piece of unsolicited advice, I'd second the above. Try and avoid speedies for anything except absolute rubbish. Speedying is a great way of getting other editors annoyed. Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:25, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, must have made a mistake there, I only usually speedy the really obvious articles. Forentitalk 10:42, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox

[edit]

I have a solution for your sandbox problem. Find and remove the text that says margin-left: 1em;. Btilm 06:19, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou so much for finding that out, I know it seems small but that was really bugging me. I really appreciate it, Forentitalk 06:54, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. If you want, I could help you design your userpage or fix any other problems you have with it. Btilm 18:02, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot for the offer. Someone to fix the problems I have would be extremely helpful. I've got a list of issues on the talk page, although I haven't got any yet. I'll add them as I find them. Also, out of interest do you know a way to make a contents box a certain width or to make it fill up space, because at the top of this page is a big space where I would like to put the contents to make it fit. Thanks again, Forentitalk 08:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A content box appears when there is more than three sections on a page. You can force a table of contents by putting __TOC__ at the place that you want the table of contents to go. I will do it for you on this talk page. I had to use a little bit of HTML to make it float to the left. There is a way to resize it. If you look at my talk page, you will see that I have a scrolling table of contents. (Look in the archives for a better example). If you want to know how, I can tell you how to make every subpage of yours appear on your sandbox. BtilmHappy Holidays! 20:07, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but what I mean is whether I can make the contents box you put on fit the whole space up to the 'message options' and archive box. I tried adding width: 500px for an example, but it didn't do anything. Don't tell me I have to wait for a person to put on a really long-named section for it to fit it? Oh and about the subpages, I'd probably best not show them all because some are just for scripts (eg. User:Forenti/monobook.js and User:Forenti/Status. Forentitalk 02:59, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm... I think that's impossible, but you could move the message box to the left and the below space will disappear. Another suggestion for your user page is to create a section for awards, which you might soon get. In case you haven't heard of it, a barnstar is an award any user can give to another. Some awards include awesome looking user spaces, helper awards, and much more. BtilmHappy Holidays! 03:57, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh well, I'll just have to live with the contents box as it is. And yeah, I was thinking about making an awards section. I guess I may as well create a section for it for now, I have no idea how to prepare for one (do I need a box for each one or something and if so, what size?). Forentitalk 04:27, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You could just transclude an additional page into your user page or create a link like I did. If I can make javascript appear on a page, I could surely expand the content box. I am trying to see if I can add js. What is the point of your first archive? There is nothing in it. If you look at my award page, you will see that I just pasted the wikicode onto the page. BtilmHappy Holidays! 04:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking of transcluding, but then again why not have it on the page anyway. I;m probably not going to link because I want to use up a bit more space on my actual userpage. Don't worry too much about the javascript - I'm actually pretty happy as it is. Also about the archive, I was bored and just wanted to have it set up for when I actually do need an archive (yes, it will probably take a while the way I'm going...). About the awards, is there more than one way of displaying them. For example I have also seen them as tall rectangles and even some as really small ribbons as opposed to the wide rectangles that most people have. Forentitalk 05:17, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, generally, if you get an award, it is custom to keep it the same size and shape it was awarded to you in. But if you are thinking of putting them in a scrollbox, I could help you with that. BtilmHappy Holidays! 05:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Userbox Help

[edit]

Alas, I haven't been active is such a long time that I've mostly forgot how to do it. But I think that the general format for variables is {{{1}}}, where is the variable number. You can also type a non-numeric value to give the variable a name. Therefore, you can make a template, let's call it Template:Mytemplate (but don't actually create it):

This user is {{{1}}}.

And you can call it like so: {{Mytemplate|funny}}, and it will give "This user is funny." You can also add more than one variable, i.e.

This user is {{{1}}} and {{{2}}}.

And you can call it like so: {{Mytemplate|funny|smart}}, and it will give you "This user is funny and smart."

If you need more help, I suggest reading up on template syntax, as I've forgotten most of it. Also check out ParserFunctions if you're looking for more advanced logical templates. Regards, The UserboxerComplain/ubx 17:51, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for the help, successfully made a userbox with a variable thanks to you! Forentitalk 02:55, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Who likes vandalism by 124.180.245.166? Haha I reverted it 2 times, what's with these people? Such anger. Cheers! -petiatil »user»speak 09:50, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, I was watching - you actually beat me to revert it. They were the first acts of vandalism I have had against my page, but I think I'll see a lot more coming during my time. I too don't understand these people, but I guess we will just have to keep on dealing with them. Once again, thanks a lot! Forentitalk 09:56, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your first barnstar, why hadn't you taken before? I had already signed your guestbook as no. 3. --Extra999 (Contact me + contribs) 11:34, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I can help you in developing your userpage. --Extra999 (Contact me + contribs) 11:41, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I thought I recognised you. I thought that if you had signed my guestbook, I would have already signed yours before... anyway don't worry. Thanks a lot for the barnstar! As for the help with the userpage, that would be extremely helpful. Do you have a lot of experience with wikimarkup? Forentitalk 11:53, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Gee, I don't understand till which level you are talking about a lot of experience with wikimarkup. Well, I don't have too less and too much experience. And which markup? --Extra999 (Contact me + contribs) 12:17, 24 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw your portal - judging by that you definitely have enough experience to help. I have set up a page for you to visit from time to time that lists any issues I am having - feel free to fix them at your own pace. I would like to thank you very much for volunteering to help. About the scary thing - I was viewing Download's talkpage and saw the award you gave him for his userpage, then I found that you had given me one too at that exact moment! I guess it isn't really that scary or even exciting but still. And I totally understand why you couldn't help me, trust me, no-one else could - what I find most important is your offer to help. Message

[edit]

i'm sorry, im not very familiar with editing, however, my edits were simply to point out the poorly formed sentence structure in the plot summaries of various movies, or pointing out that mentioned movies shouldn't be in the horror section. it was not vandalism. don't be so hasteful next time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.107.104.132 (talkcontribs) 8:50, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I understand what you were trying to do, but in in the future if you don't believe a movie belongs where it has been placed, be bold and remove it - you don't need to check if you are sure it doesn't belong there. If you are not sure, instead of saying so on the actual article page, please make a notice on the talk page of the article. Also, if the movie plot isn't written well enough, there are a variety of templates you can place on the page instead, for example this one that will better notify other editors. Let me know if you need any further explanation, I'd be happy to help. Forentitalk 09:08, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How do I make a status box for my page? (You know, the Online/Busy/Offline thing?) Thanks, NEON speaks. what? mark it. 00:20, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, this page will tell you all about it, but basically you just place {{User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate}} on your userpage where you want it and it will appear. However, me and a lot of other users are having problems with it because when you click the update links, it doesn't update it all automatically like it should and instead you have to change it manually (e.g. you have to change the contents of the status page to online and offline yourself). If you have any more problems that the page doesn't cover, don't hesitate to ask me. Forentitalk 05:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm having that problem :( please help Bonjour! Je m'appelle lcb1994 talk 09:36, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok basically, on the page where it has your status (yours is here) you have to change it yourself. So if you are online, edit the page so it just says 'online'. If you are offline, just make the page say 'offline'. If you are busy, make it say 'recently offline online' and if you are at school, work etc. make it say 'work or school at work/in class'. Write all those without apostrophes of course. Forentitalk 09:50, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anon IP hopper harassment

Hi, thanks for removing a comment from a (blocked 10 times in the past 2 weeks) anon IP hopper on my user page ([2]), however, you moved it to my talk page ([3]), which has been protected specifically to stop this editor's harrasment. Still, I would appreciate your keeping an eye on my pages...Hohenloh + 18:52, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for moving the comment, it just seemed like an innocent apology by a new editor that did not know to add comments on talk pages. I would be more than happy to watch over your pages though - all your pages are now on my watchlist. Forentitalk 23:37, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, no harm done. On something completely different, how do you get a nice orderly page with the pretty icons on top? Is there an application available to edit user pages, etc.? Thanks in advance Hohenloh + 00:35, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Trust me, it took a lot of work and time - probably too much. As far as I know, there isn't any program that can help but this page helped me out a lot. It isn't very hard to make the icons at the top though, this page helps a lot with that - I would be happy to set up the icons if you want. Forentitalk 00:52, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot - that's exactly what I'm looking for! I've done a lot of HTML work and web-design, so I should be able to get my head around this. Hohenloh + 01:40, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Zakir Naik

[edit]

Hello Forenti. I merged Awliya's and Ari's Zakir Naik page versions into 1. Ari, however, reverted it back to his page. I have no doubt that if I were to re-revert the page to my version Ari would have reported me. I have also covered all the problems he had with the page. Please take a look at the history and discussion page of Zakir Naik. Ari also did not bother to discuss any further problems he had with the article. At least I feel a full-fledged reversion is absolutely uncalled for. I find that absolutely repulsive. I now ask the administrators to check my IP or whatever it is that will identify me apart from Awliya. -The Well Wisher (talk) 12:24, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I won't be able to look at it today due to my time zone (apparently I have to sleep) but I will definitely be able to have a look at all the problems tomorrow. I can tell you this though - to technically tell yourself apart from Awliya (something to do with IP addresses I think), what you need is a Checkuser. I'd recommend asking one to do a check of you against Awliya or something. Until then, hang in there. Forentitalk 12:32, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The Barber (Seinfeld).png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:The Barber (Seinfeld).png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ╟─TreasuryTagAfrica, Asia and the UN─╢ 17:51, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 15:58, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Brilliant, that would be very helpful - over at User:Forenti/Sandboxes/5 would be convenient. Thank you so much for coming in and responding so quickly. Forentitalk 06:16, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

G'day Forenti, I've pushed this page back to mainspace as Flight Facilities, as they meet the various notability criteria, and are one of the only bands in the latest hottest 100 that do not have an article. John Vandenberg (chat) 00:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have always edited in good faith but it seems my IP has been blocked due to a open proxy issue. I would appreciate any assistance with this matter. Ironically, I discovered that I was blocked while trying to revert vandalism on Military aircraft. Forentitalk 16:49, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You will need to follow the unblock process you see when you try to edit, as we cannot guess the IP/proxy information (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 10:20, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

The directions given for my specific problem are:

If you believe you are not running an open proxy, the most likely cause is that another customer from your ISP who was previously assigned this IP address was running an open proxy. If this is the case, please request to be unblocked using the {{unblock}} template, or request administrator attention using {{admin!}} and indicate you are caught by an open proxy block.

Please indicate what further information you might need from me, as I have no further instructions on how to proceed. Forentitalk 11:25, 5 April 2012 (UTC) According to WP:GAB, 'The only way such a block can be lifted is if it can be determined that it is no longer an open proxy, or was erroneously identified as one. If you believe this to be the case, say so in your unblock request and the administrator will refer it to the open proxies project, where verified users can determine if it is indeed an open proxy.'. Forentitalk 11:38, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

We will need to know your IP address in order to review this block. It should be displayed at the beginning of the block message. T. Canens (talk) 12:01, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have been blocked for apparently running an open proxy, which I believe is not the case during my use of this IP address. This same issue has occurred to me only recently but it seemed to resolve quickly upon an IP check. My IP address is still the same as the one that had the earlier problems, so it's a bit worrying that this has been detected in the meantime. I appreciate any help. Orphaned non-free media (File:Killara High School logo.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Killara High School logo.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi Forenti,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
