Re: Vandalism or content dispute?

Hi Florrie, sorry for the delay in responding. I understand your frustration

My view is that it is hard to attach the tag of "vandalism" to what appear to be good faith edits. If I had to speculate (and this is only speculation) the IP editor(s) may be a particularly statistically-minded person whose skills in other other areas may not be as developed. They may not understand what you are trying to say and not understand the problems they are causing. I had a similar experience with a contributor (with an account) and a little research showed that is was a 13 y-o boy who was somewhere along the autism spectrum.

Given that the editor has done nothing that could really lead to blocking and I doubt that there is a case to argue for a ban for disruptive behaviour (and I would be loathe to permanently block an IP address for this sort of actions anyway) I see a few courses of action.

  1. Revert edits as they arise as unreferenced. This seems a little tendentious as there does not appear to be a problem with the quality of the edits.
  2. Go around and add the tildes (~~~~~); but this will get tiresome, or
  3. Accept that Wikipedia will never be perfect and that sometimes near enough is good enough. With any luck the IP editor will start to add the tildes or lose interest in providing the updates. (my suggestion).

If you like, perhaps seeking some more opinions at the Village Pump may throw up some other solutions. Cheers and good luck, Mattinbgn\talk 05:04, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Edit Counter

I used to use WannabeKate as an edit counter till it stopped working for me some months back. Just found this one Cool Edit Counter, which I think looks really neat. You may already know about it.-Sticks66 13:34, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Apologies for Bill Harrigan "dump", and thank you for fixing it up

Hi Florrie,
Apologies for this. Daniel had been sandboxing an article in parallel to the mainspace article. I guess I should have put more thought into what you very rightly called "info dumped into article". <hides crossed fingers behind back> I promise you this sort of thing will never happen again. </hides crossed fingers behind back>
But seriously: thanks for sorting out the mess I made of the article!--Shirt58 (talk) 10:53, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

No worries - it's good to see at least there is some info on one of the better known referrees! Cheers,  florrie  12:24, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

1939 Premiers

Hey Flo, you're an old Tigers fan aren't you ? (young/old/you know what I mean). I've been getting good use of the photo on this page in a few places. Don't suppose you know who's who other than Goodwin/Hyde, do you ? -Sticks66 12:33, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Sadly, no. I've got a lovely copy of the 1944 premiership side too, but not one name listed! Do you have Whitiker and Collis' 100 Years in Pictures book? It's fabulous but while there are names attached to many team pics, none of the Balmain ones from that era have names other than the ones you already know - Goodwin, Hyde, Kelly.  florrie  04:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
The National Catalogues have nothing on the picture, but while trying to find it, I did find these historical photos [1], maybe no relevance but Sticks66 might find use for them.  The Windler talk  05:58, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
I've found something. There's a copy of the same photo in The Finals book. The caption says: From left: S. Goodwin (captain), A. Smith, J. Redman, F. Hyde, F. Griffiths, T. Bourke, H. Day, D. Buckley, D. Manning, W. Johnson, J. Quealey, G. Watt, B. Bischoff. It also says "players only" named. So if it is left from Goodwin (with the ball), it doesn't fit as Hyde is only one seat along. Not a lot of use after all!  florrie  06:22, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Righto, I should have just looked here first - it's in the 100 Years of Rugby League set. I'll copy it out in a second.  florrie  06:26, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Back Row: S. Jenkins, J Chin, W. Kelly (coach), J Duckworth, N. Robinson, R. Dunn.
  • Second Row: A Toby, D Manning, J Redman, F. Griffiths, W. Johnson, H. Day, D Buckely, J Winchester, H Matthews (secretary)
  • Front Row: L Maher (president), W. Bischoff, T. Bourke, S Goodwin (captain), F Hyde, A. Smith, W Walsh.
  • Ballboy: L Horne; Absent: J Quealey  florrie  06:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC) PS I'll see if I can crop Norm Robinson for his article!  florrie  06:35, 18 April 2009 (UTC)
Thx both . Yes I have Hadden and thought that listing order looked weird. The above makes much more sense. No articles on all these guys in which to re-use. I had the wrong guy as the coach Bill Kelly. If you want to crop him and Sid Goodwin, Flo I can make use on their articles.-Sticks66 14:59, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Funny how Geogre Watt is in one listing & not the other. He seems to be on the '39 premiership banner box. Somewhat interesting guy - I found a Men Of League article on the net about him. Don't suppose he's actually in the photo is he ?-Sticks66 15:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Missed this - sorry. No, I don't think he's in the pic, unless there's a mistake - but only Mr Quealey is marked as 'absent'.  florrie  14:47, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your help YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) 03:07, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi, sorry about that, I have stopped with the icons :)

Diggers

This Anzac Day I'm in London & managed to get to the War Memorial this morning where wreaths were laid. Thx for that list , excellent. -20:36, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Now that's an experience! Have a great trip :)  florrie  03:29, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Wests Tigers jersey

I have uploaded the jersey you requested. I made it two months ago, but it was until today that the Tigers finally wore their home jersey of last year. File:Wests Tigers commemorative jersey 2009.svg, and my gallery.  The Windler talk  14:04, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

They were discussing it on the forum today and it seems to be agreed that the white was for the hotter opening rounds and a merchandising ploy for the 10th anniversary. Thanks for the graphic!  florrie  14:38, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

A worthy chap

Hey Flo, I've loaded up this article with three group photos of its subject. I wonder if you think any of them worthy of cropping for a Infobox headshot ? -Sticks66 08:27, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

They are not too good for a head-shot, no. This is the best of the bunch...[2]. Cheers,  florrie  14:45, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Wests Tigers

Hi, Florrie! I've been making a few updates to the Wests Tigers and other related pages, as you may have noticed, as it is clear you have largely been responsible for their upkeep. I thought I'd better thank you for any cleaning up you've done after my clumsy efforts, and apologise for any future errors. Ta. Doctorhawkes (talk) 12:11, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

It's great to see someone else actively editing the Wests Tigers pages!  florrie  13:32, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Elissa Sursara/Eliska Sursova

{{adminhelp}} I originally posted this request at BLPN a week ago but it did not receive any replies...

Following the blanking of Elissa Sursara by Stephen's black friend (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) with the editorial comment that this person is "likely to be made up", I was led to another wikipedia article for an Eliska Sursova, a page also recently blanked by this user. Both articles have similarities other than their name - child-actress, Brazilian heritage, the same birthdate. I would appreciate some opinion/advice/assistance as to whether these entries are part of a hoax, both here and at imdb (which seems to be a "source" for the articles) or if there is a basis of truth for one or the other entry.

Since then, the Eliska Sursova article has been listed for deletion by another user. I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to find any reliable sources for Elissa Sursova but cannot find anything. Nor can I find anything on topics mentioned within her article - the Brazilian children's show etc. Any assistance on how to deal with this possible hoax article would be appreciated.  florrie  09:09, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't think this is something that requires administrator intervention. The discussion about whether to merge and/or delete these articles, and whether or not the sources are reliable, seems like the right step to take at this point. Tim Pierce (talk) 13:55, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I'll ask the Eliska Sursova nominator to include Elissa Sursora in the afd discussion.  florrie  13:58, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

The Sursova article has been deleted, it looks like a new afd needs to be created for Sursara. Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 18:20, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

NRLUS Collapsed?

I have heard on a couple of rugby league forums that the NRLUS has collapsed due to lack of sponsors but on the nrlus forum people are still saying its still happening. Could you find any news article and if its not going to happen the NRLUS page should be deleted.~~

I'd have thought you would be in a better position to search/know. A quick google shows nothing newsworthy about the NRLUSA - collapsed or otherwise. I have removed the "rumours" from the article page as they are completely unreferenced.  florrie  15:46, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
There was a very small mention in this weeks Big League saying something along the lines of it had collapsed, but no details. Mattlore (talk) 23:28, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Then that could be used as a reference but as we don't get that mag over here, I'd suggest someone who has access to the information adds the cite. I'm not sure why the original poster thinks it my responsibility.  florrie  00:54, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
