Brookland news

Hello good sir, thought this page on the City's web site might be of interest. Though, I believe it's in error, as I explained before...seems that Taggart Creek flowed from Mt. Tabor to Reed College and Crystal Springs Creek, and that anything west of the ridge along 39th Avenue would have been a separate watershed. (Though, I think your research found that those, too, fed Johnson Creek, as opposed to flowing directly into the Willamette.)

Still, there are some interesting new tidbits, like Mr. Tibbetts. -Pete (talk) 17:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Copyediting part 3

You're welcome; that is an excellent article on such a minor creek.

That's fine about the copyediting. I understand that computers often die at the most inconvenient of times. Per your message on the article's talk page, I rewrote the lead, so it should be easier to navigate around. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 22:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your copyedit, I really appreciate it. I'll go through and check as you suggested. Thanks, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 16:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, I used {{cite web}} to format the references, which I believe automatically auto-formats dates. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 16:41, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Ugh, that seems like way too much work for way too little effect on the article. I think I will do as you suggest and just leave it in for now, as unless somebody is looking for it, they're not going to notice. MoS changes way too much these days; every time you get an article to comply, the rules have changed! Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Wild things

Hi and thanks for your kind remarks. Fauna of Scotland is chugging its way up the conveyor belt towards FAC, but I need to do some work on the refs first. If you're interested I'll drop you a note when that's done. Ben MacDui 08:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Howdy ya’ll, its WikiProject Oregon Collaboration of the Week time! Thanks to those who helped improve Owyhee Reservoir and start some new Oregon newspaper article, we had four new ones. This week it is time for a Stub Improvement Drive. So select a Stub, any Stub, and try to improve it to at least a Start class. If you expand it by 5X, then think about nominating it at Did You Know so it can be featured on the main page. Peer Review of Sociology in Poland

Thanks for your review of this article. You listed some interesting points, which I hope will be adressed soon. Many thanks for your input, J.T Pearson (talk) 13:44, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Nice work sprucing that up! I've got some pics of the Gallon House Bridge. If I make it out that way again, which is likely sometime this summer, I'll see about some pics of the creek. Cheers! Katr67 (talk) 17:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

P.S. Do you know the IPA notations? I only recently learned how to pronounce this properly--I belive it's AB-ih-qwa (I wanted to say uh-BEE-qwa). I'll check on the name origin when I get home later too... Katr67 (talk) 17:11, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Copyediting Request

Will you please copyedit the article Washington State Route 531 so the article could be re-nominated for A-Class promotion? Thanks! --CG was here. (T - C - S - E) 03:57, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Congratulations

Thanks! And more importantly, thank you for helping me copyedit the article; if not for your assistance, surely the FAC wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did. Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 13:31, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Request for help with Stephen Crane

Hi, Finetooth, I don't believe we've met, but I'm familiar with your wonderful work in helping articles attain both GA and FA status. I have been working diligently on the Stephen Crane article since December and it has just recently been promoted to GA. It's currently listed at peer review, but because it's so long, no one has reviewed it as of yet. I'm also afraid it may be in sore need of a copy-edit or two. If you have the time (and I completely understand if you don't as your services are probably always in demand!), would you be willing to throw a few comments my way? My hope is to nominate it at FAC before the end of the month, but let me know either way. Take care, María (habla conmigo) 12:49, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much for your extensive help with Crane! You're definitely correct about me needing a literary expert copy-editor; I asked Awadewit for help whenever she has time, so I'm sure her input will be invaluable. I've already addressed your concerns at the peer review, but I do have several questions, if you don't mind. First, I'm in a disagreement with another editor about the length of the lead. Do you think it's too long or contains unnecessary detail? I'm of the opinion that it doesn't (of course, I wrote it, so I'm biased), but I would appreciate your feedback on the issue. The pertinent discussion is on the talk page if you need more context.
Also, regarding the "Cora" vs. "Taylor" issue, I'm really quite torn. All of the Crane biographies refer to her as "Cora", and I've never seen her referred to as "Taylor"; although of course that was the name she was using when she met Crane, her legal name was Stewart. When she and Crane became an item, she used his name until her death in 1910. Her one biography is even titled "Cora Crane" and that's what it says on her tombstone in Jacksonville. Ack! What would you suggest? Again, thank you very much for your work, and if I can return the favor, just let me know. María (habla conmigo) 12:44, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
All very good points, and I appreciate your insight. When she met Crane, her legal name was Cora Ethel Stewart, but she took the last name Taylor while dating a man by the same name. It's difficult to say whether she used the name "Crane" simply out of pretense, but for as long as she was with him, she used his name and they acted as husband and wife; in fact, most of Crane's friends truly thought they were married. She was still married to Stewart until he died in the early 1900s, after which she married a man called McNeil. They then divorced and because she was not allowed to use his name anymore due to a settlement, she went back to using "Cora Crane", which she retained until her death. I think explaining this mess in a footnote is a great idea, and perhaps "Taylor" would be the best bet for now. Thanks! María (habla conmigo) 22:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

I'll trust your edits. I like to glance at, and occasionally read Featured Content Candidates, but I rarely gets into the full review anymore, and only leave is something really doesn't quite "click". Circeus (talk) 19:39, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

1 Year of the Collaboration of the Week

Hello again to those of WikiProject Oregon. It is time again for another Collaboration of the Week. The last two weeks were a Stub Improvement Drive, and thank you to those who improved any Stubs.

This week marks the one week anniversary of the COTW, so a brief highlight reel:

  • At least 10 DYKs
  • Three articles passed GA after being listed at COTW
  • Probably around 25 articles started
  • Almost all Top importance articles are now better than Stub class

And now on with our countdown. This week we have two requests, the Willamette Meteorite and Tom McCall. Hopefully we can get both to GA quality. Click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Thank you. Aboutmovies (talk) 09:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words - it is a very special place (and I even worked in a Clinton County mention with the modern elk herd ;-) ). We were a bit spoiled with a wealth of sources for Leonard Harrison. We also plan to bring Colton Point to FA - some of the LHSP material will be recycled. Choess pointed out in FAC that the Modern era section was a bit awkward. I was going to fix it in FAC but was pleasantly surprised last night. Now my reorganization is done - I moved the Nessmuk PHMC marker into the Lumber section, all the other changes are in the Modern era. Let me know what you think please. I am also asking Dincher (of course), and Choess and Ben MacDui to take a look since they supported at FAC too. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:15, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

The only issue I have is "king" verses "King". This issue came up in the PR and the reviewer wanted lower case "k". I have normally used upper case "K" (like you have) in the past and that has been fine in previous FA's. If you prefer "King", then I can change to uppercase all occurances of the word in the sections that you will not be copyediting.thanksDineshkannambadi (talk) 03:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Request for copyediting

Hey Finetooth, I'm hoping this isn't overkill with yet another request. Could you, in your spare time, pop by Utah State Route 181 and sweep the article of errors? I'm planning to nom it for GA soon so I need someone's help with making the prose tip-top shape. CL01:10, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely. I myself burnout from writing articles in a couple of hours so, crudely speaking, I know how it is. Take a good rest and I'll consult that list you gave me - CL01:53, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Finetooth...I was hoping that you could take a look at this article. It could use the evaluation, and I could use the experience.

Jim N E Cricket, its another Oregon Collaboration of the Week

Greetings WikiProject Oregon folks, it is time for another edition of the Collaboration of the Week! A big thanks to those who helped out in improving Tom McCall and the Willamette Meteorite last week. This week we have a request for Mr. Greg Oden who has been back in the news as of late, so hopefully we can get him up to B class before training camp starts. Request for help - satellite image

It's a while since I last asked you to help me on an image, so I hope you won't mind me approaching you now, for a small favour. This is a satellite image of South Georgia. I need two points marked, A and B. On the left-hand side, near the northern end of the island, is a deep bay which comes to a point. The letter B needs to be placed at this point. The letter A should be placed close by, at the entrance to this same bay, on the southerly side of the entrance. Both letters should be marked in red, for the sake of clarity. I really appreciate the help you have given in the past, and will fully understand if you tell me that this isn't possible, or that you can't help at this time, but I thought it worth asking. Brianboulton (talk) 16:17, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. The bay in question is the lower one, that digs deep into the island's interior. Hope that's clear. If either point needs repositioning, I will advise. Many thanks again. Brianboulton (talk) 18:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
(later thought) - I wonder whether this map will be useful in helping to place my letters. The bay in question is that under the words Prince Olav Harbour; the letter B should be placed at the landward end of the bay, the letter A at the southern seaward end. And - it's just occurred to me - since the location Stromness is marked on the map, on the northerly coast, could we have a letter C at that point? Cheers and thanks again. Brianboulton (talk) 21:46, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Literature in the Hoysala Empire

Hiya Finetooth. I copyedited the first half of Literature in the Hoysala Empire and you covered the second half. It's now at WP:FAC, and it's gotten very little attention, so the FAC may fail unless one or two more reviewers can be found. If you're willing to say that the part you covered is up to par on the FAC page, I'm willing to support it. Let me quickly add: I don't have any connection to this article, and I don't really care if it passes or not. I just think it would be a shame for it to fail for lack of reviewers. Since you've already looked at it closely, I hope you won't consider this canvassing. - Dan Dank55 (send/receive) 02:54, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

I need help, Finetooth....

Hey there, hope all is well. Anyway, an article I've been working on with a number of editors is currently at GA...and it needs a copy edit. The article is Lafayette. If you have any free time, do you think you could hack away at it a bit. Most of the research/content was mine, which explains the poor style (although I did this via Spotlight, so there are many others around). Thanks! Lazulilasher (talk) 15:16, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I noticed you've wasted no time coming to help out :) Thanks. Maybe I should just start WRITING well...haha... Lazulilasher (talk) 01:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Renovo or South Renovo

I recently uploaded a picture from flickr that was labeled as being Renovo, but I am pretty sure that it is South Renovo instead. A quick look at google earth seems to confirm this. It's been well over 10 years since I was even close to Renovo or South Renovo. Could you check and make sure I am correct? --Dincher (talk) 21:11, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I will ask my Dad. He delivered bread in that area a long time ago. Dincher (talk) 22:03, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, just saw this new page-- nice work! You've given me a bunch of new ideas about template use. I've never taken the time to figure out how to use the cite web template, and your uses here gives some fine examples. I also like the adj=on field for the convert template-- didn't know that one. I've been wording things awkwardly just to get around the default plural. I've never quite gotten the hang of the geobox 2 fields, and this example helps. It's the first time I've seen the etymology field used. It looks nice. Your elevation notes references Google Earth are much better worded than my recent use of just "Google Earth". Your water data report cite web template is something I'll probably copy and use myself. Finally, the locator map is spiffy-- that is done automagically with the geobox? I'm guessing it takes the coordinates and places the dot according? If so, that's sweet. If there's more to it, could you tell me what? And, what would the locator map be for other states? Would Washington be "Washington Locator Map.PNG", for example? Any chance that works for Canadian provinces too?

The stub template seems unnecessary! But if you say so :-) ...I always like to add sections, even to very stubby text, so I hope you don't mind if I do for this page. Might have to break a paragraph to do it well though. Anyway, nicely done! Pfly (talk) 03:47, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Heya-- I was about to add sections "Course", maybe "Natural History" or "Fish" or something for the bit about fish, and "Recreation" or something for the last part. But looking again I saw the course info was part of the lead and the second paragraph was more about national forests and such, so since I had little time I didn't do anything.
I've learned a lot from Ruhrfisch and Kmusser too, but I don't always seem to remember what I've learned, or don't have the patience of Ruhrfisch and you, patience needed to make excellent quality pages, technical details and all. I too imitated Larrys Creek early on, and also some pages of User:Malepheasant, who has made some nice river articles. I think I first learned about geoboxes from him.
Thanks for the locator map info. When I had more time I used to make watershed maps, but these days a simple, easy to create locator map would make me happy. It seems to me that something similar for Canadian provinces should be possible. Perhaps I'll look into the technical details sometime. All the BC locator maps, mainly for cities and the like, have struck me as fairly ugly. I've been making stubby pages for BC rivers (which are sorely lacking compared to WA and OR-- and there are so many large rivers up there!). There shouldn't be a copyright issue for base maps made from public domain data, like, say, the Digital Chart of the World.
Mapmaking, yes, can take a lot of work. How do you go about it? Me, I have an older copy of ArcGIS and use it either to make semi-ugly maps directly, or to make map "templates" to trace and make pretty in Adobe Illustrator. I haven't done it in a while, in part because ArcGIS is on an older computer I don't like using. Plus the older version I have is annoying limited in its ability to make nice looking maps. Kmusser's maps are far superior to anything I can pull off with ArcGIS (I think he uses it too, but a more recent version).
That TopoQuest trick is nifty and useful, thanks. I found something similar, if you aren't already aware-- from a GNIS page like U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System: Fanno Creek you can click "GNIS in Google Map" on the right and it opens a Google Map window centered on the river. Among the tabs at the top are the usual Map, Satellite, Terrain, etc, and also Topo, which takes you to USGS topo maps in a nice Google Maps interface. It's rather slow though. Anyway, cheers! Pfly (talk) 05:46, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh PS, heh, I have been to Balch Creek, now that I look at the page-- I've hiked along the stream and seen that stone structure building and so on. Pleasant surprise reading the page. Pfly (talk) 05:58, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
ArcGIS is very expensive, absurdly so. I only happen to have it due to getting it for relatively cheap as a student some time ago (thus my being stuck with an older version). It can display whatever data you put into it and whatever scale and so on. It's very powerful, but worth the price? Not for mere mortals. It's on the order of thousands of dollars for just the core package. But there are some free small versions that might be useful if you wanted to look into GIS stuff. ArcExplorer is one I believe. If you haven't used GIS before there can be a bit of a learning curve, and you need to find data, such as the Digital Chart of the World, and then figure out how to import it into the GIS and do things with it. I read Ruhrfisch's map making description after posting last night, so I think I got the picture. Oop, I'd say a little more but the baby just woke up! Pfly (talk) 17:54, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
PS, thanks for asking User:VerruckteDan about a WA map. Maybe if I find time someday I'll see if I can figure out how it's done and make a few more I discovering are missing still. Pfly (talk) 17:58, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I'll chime in, ArcGIS isn't worth the money, but there is other GIS software out there, including some that's shareware or free. As Pfly said there is a kind of steep learning curve, once you learn it though you can make much nicer maps because it opens up the ability to use geographic data directly rather than relying on other peoples basemaps. If you need help finding data sources I might be able to help. Kmusser (talk) 18:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you both. I'll play around with some free software and see where that leads me. Finetooth (talk) 19:07, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Ssssh, Be Very Very Quiet, its Oregon COTW time

Howdy folks, its time for this week’s edition of Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week. First off, great job the last two weeks with Greg Oden & the Hospital red link drive. We had close to ten new hospital articles and two DYKs () plus other improvements to the list itself. So thank you to those who helped out. This week, we have on a sad note Kevin Duckworth, and the Statesman Journal. Duckworth should have plenty of sources so hopefully in tribute we can get his article up to standards. With the SJ, hopefully we can get it above a stub so all three of the top three papers are no longer stubs, and maybe even a DYK and GA like we got from the Register-Guard? Once again, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Hasta la bye bye. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:19, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

With WES, go ahead and be bold. I think I'm the only regular WP:ORE person who regularly edits it, which has mainly consisted of gutting large portions of it, adding some citations, and adding pictures since I live near the Wilsonville station/depot. An IP editor added most of what was there months ago, but it read like an essay/feasibility study. If you finish gutting/citing it, maybe we will actually get it "completed" before TriMet gets the line finished (I still have one station left to write though). Also, if you are up for it, I have about 5 or so WP:ORE articles that I think are ready for FA (all are GA already) content-wise. But, I need a fresh set of eyes to watch out for the MOS issues and to make sure everything looks right before nominating them (I'm thinking Mark Hatfield then the Oregon Supreme Court, Katherine Ann Power, Hillsboro, Oregon, Charles L. McNary, Matthew Deady, Provisional Government of Oregon, and Portland City Hall). I have a few things to add to all but Hatfield, but should finish that up this month. You did a great job helping with the Oregon State Capitol last year, so I'm hoping as a project we can push through these five eight or so (plus what is going with the Columbia) by the end of the year to wrap up another good year. Let me know if you can help out, thanks. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:47, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes yes, you can go ahead. You need not ask permission for anything. Just go ahead. Take your own time. Even if you mess up the article, it's absolutely fine since this article is not a major article on Wiki and doesn't have enough editors. KensplanetTalkE-mailContributions 07:03, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Can you have a glance at citation1 of the Mangalorean Catholics article. I fear that it'll be considered original research and frowned upon by WP:OR policies. Any comments? Kensplanet (talk) 17:23, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou for your comments at Talk:Mangalorean Catholics#Copyeditor's thoughts. I thought I should contact you after a week.
  • Does the father of the bridegroom give away the bride? Or is it the father or guardian of the bride?
    • It's only the father who gives the bride. In case her father is dead, the guardian can.
  • Why is Joachim Alva in the infobox? His importance does not seem to be stressed in the text.
    • Joachim Alva is a popular Mangalorean Catholic. Many ethnic group articles have images of notable personalities in the Infobox.
  • The table of names lists seven for men and only one for women. Since the population is probably split about 1 to 1, the 7 to 1 ratio in the table looks like POV. I might suggest four of each.

O. article

Did you see this article about the South Waterfront neighborhood being deemed salmon safe? Thought you might enjoy..not sure it fits into any article-worthy watershed (though maybe worthy of a mention on Willamette River) -Pete (talk) 18:43, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Btw

Just so you know, Utah State Route 68 is an A-class article and Interstate 215 (Utah) is a GA article, both of which you've copyedited and have listed under "Copyediting" on your userpage. Thanks again for the copyedits that you have done to these articles which couldn't have passed their respective candidacies without your help. CL04:28, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Can you please copyedit GA Vithoba, as you you did FA Ganesha? I approached you personally as you helped achieve Ganesha FA status by copy editing it twice, with Galena. I wanted to nominate the article for FAC process, but the "copyedit" problem always pops up. As noted in my explanation at Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors/Requests/Vithoba: "A comment in Wikipedia:Peer review/Vithoba/archive1 says "I think this is overall pretty well done and fairly close to FAC. Before going to FAC the article needs a copyedit - on of the FA requirements is professional prose and there are several places that need polished, mostly missing articles but also some awkward constructions." Also, Wikipedia:Peer_review/Automated/July_2008#Vithoba suggests that there may be weasel words." Also at Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Peer review/Vithoba, an edirtor has said "Legend needs a copyedit". If you are comfortable, please take a look at Vithoba.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 06:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

I am in no hurry to nominate for FAC, at the current state. The wait for a good copyedit is worth it. Do you have the time to copyedit the article, say in a month or so (after Mangalorean Catholics )? --Redtigerxyz (talk) 12:30, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Please leave a note on my talk when you start working on the article. --Redtigerxyz (talk) 04:15, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi, i recently was told about facet of Vithoba, i had not covered. adding info on that next week. Please copyedit after that. Will let you know when expansion is complete.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 04:55, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi, i have completed the section. You may go further with the copyedit.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 15:12, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. If you have any doubts, comments about meanings of sentences, please write on Vithoba talk. I will reply there. Please remove the copyedit request on the talk and replace a message saying you gone through the article.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 11:00, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for the CE. Have answered your questions. If complete, please declare on the talk that your CE is complete.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 15:51, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to all your copy edits, the article is now a FA.thanks,Dineshkannambadi (talk) 17:08, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Dab checker

Hi Finetooth, the dab checker is currently one of three tools on all FAC pages. See here for some Columbia River dabs I found with it (see it has just been listed for PR too). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:17, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I checked Larrys Creek and found a bunch of new dabs - it used to be dab free, I swear! No rest for the wicked, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:47, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Columbia Stream Gauge

I found one in Canada! Birchbank International Gaging Station: [1]. It's got a neat graphic too, showing the layout. I'm not sure if it's a USGS station or not, so I'm not sure how to integrate it into what you've written. I might try later today, if you don't do it first.

I also found a really cool data graphing site, I wonder if that could be linked from a gauge table? Franamax (talk) 18:47, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Nuts!

Hey, I meant to help out with the Fanno Creek GA push. Sorry I missed it. I just realized why I keep missing these -- the transcluded reviews don't show up on my watchlist, unless I explicitly add them! I thought we were still waiting for the reviewer to post the review…but, I should have started watching the sub-page as soon as it was posted to the talk page. Oh well, live and learn…but congrats nonetheless! -Pete (talk) 20:23, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

And a suggestion

…for the next river push, what do you think about Sandy River (Oregon)? Seems like a woefully inadequate article. It seems pretty important in the history of the region…being the destination of William Robert Broughton's early exploration of the Columbia, intersecting with the Barlow Road, having the Bull Run River as a tributary (main water source for Portland), and the accompanying Bull Run Hydroelectric Project, etc. Whaddya think? (Not that we don't both have enough to do!!) -Pete (talk) 22:03, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit request

Hi, I know I've never run into you before, but you were recommended by a user on IRC. I'm not sure if it's up your alley, was wondering if you could copyedit Homer Simpson. I've been working on the article for a while and although I was hoping it would be longer than it is, I've pretty much hit a wall and I doubt there is a lot more I can add (other than some analysis). So in order to get it ready for a FAC, it needs some copyediting and I would appreciate it if you could take a look. Thanks for your time, Scorpion0422 02:19, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review

Hi, I was hoping you could help me out with my peer review request for the Davenport, Iowa page. I worked really hard to get it to a GA in March, and am hoping to get it to an FA by the end of this year. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Ctjf83Talk 02:23, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much! Whenever you get a chance is fine with me. Ctjf83Talk 03:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
As noted on your peer review, I didn't list who won the rail road case Lincoln argued. I added information here, is that ok, or way too much, and needs to be cut down? Ctjf83Talk 01:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks...I kept the county seat and Germans in one paragraph, otherwise they would both be just a sentence or two. Would you like to CE it afterwards, or should I find someone who didn't PR it? Ctjf83Talk 18:31, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, thanks...also, is it super important to list about barge traffic, and river activities for commerce? I don't know much about it, and not sure how easily I would be able to find info on it. Surprisingly we don't have any shipyards, and there is no river tourism, per say, which stinks...well, i guess there is a dinner cruise, and a boat that takes people to four locations 2 on each side of the river for bike riding, or just a river ride....ok, i'll add those, lol. there isn't, however, any place to rent a boat, or jet skis or anything fun like that though :( Ctjf83Talk 18:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, would you put a dinner cruise, and the channel cat under transportation, as that's what they technically are, or under sports and rec, as that is what they mainly are used for, is recreational. I mean people aren't riding the dinner boat for a method of transportation up the 70 miles to Dubuque, Iowa Ctjf83Talk 19:43, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Question

Have you ever considered placing a request for adminship? If so, I would be happy to nominate you. Synergy 02:43, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Me too. Thanks also for your kind words on the Hillsgrove FA. I recently discovered I got an FA without even knowing it or having made one edit to the article - see the Stigand FAC. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:51, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind the co nomination. Synergy 02:57, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: from my talk page. Take your time then. Do whatever it is you need to do, if you want to become one. At the present time, your a shoe in. I'll be at my talk page if and when you change your mind. :) Synergy 03:00, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely - no worries. Also agree that Ealdgyth is amazing. Yours, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:19, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I'd vote you dictator, Finetooth :) If you ever want to run, I'd be honored to support you. Almost all articles I've worked on that achieved any sort of "status" were copyedited by you... Lazulilasher (talk) 18:27, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

A present from Baldy

A Barnstar!
The Oregon Barnstar of Excellence

Awarded to Finetooth for his excellent work of a high standard particularly on rivers and topics related to Oregon and Washington and for his hard work in bringing many articles to FA or GA standard. Aside from this, the award is for having great or "fine" teeth and keeping the dentist happy by his shining white nashers. His Baldness is proud of you. The Bald One White cat 17:37, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm humbly asking for your considered opinion with my peer review request for the Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California page. I've listed this article for peer review because, at present the City of Oakland's Planning Commission and City Council is revising zoning and height regulations for new land development (i.e. skyscrapers) in the neighborhood. Currently, much public attention is focused on this neighborhood in the Hearing Rooms at City Hall down the street, around in the conference tables of local investment banks, and kitchen tables of local activists. Having spent many hours editing it, I'd hope this article reflects a modicum of accuracy and good encyclopedic writing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Critical Chris (talkcontribs) 20:27, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit request

Hi, when you get the time can you copyedit Tropical Storm Kiko (2007)? It's almost an FA but it needs a full copyedit to make sure it's ready. Thanks, Cyclonebiskit (talk) 00:01, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, no need to rush though, I can wait for others to be finished since you've already promised to do. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 00:15, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

WP:ORE COTW Version 2.2

Hello WikiProject Oregon contributors. It's time for another COTW. Thank you to those who helped improve Kevin Duckworth and the Statesman Journal last week, we received another DYK () for the SJ. This week, by request we have Mr. Ken Kesey and not by request Nike, Inc.. Nike is the only Start class article in the top 30 of those articles selected for the hard copy edition, and it could easily be improved to B class. Once again, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 23:56, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

You give me more credit than I deserve. I'm really impressed with everyone's efforts. Enjoy your travels, and I'll be looking forward to your refreshed perspective when you return! -Pete (talk) 19:34, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Er...Louvre redux

Hi Finetooth, I hope that your travels are progressing well (saw above note). I was wondering if you would take a look at Louvre (again) whenever you get the chance. I've added content since the failed FAC in May, and even been able to scrounge a number of other editors with whom to work. But, the article still needs your sharp-tongued red pen (and, I've done the eternally difficult &nbsp and dates myself!). So, if you're not too busy, would you mind taking a look? Also, Lafayette is still going very well. It's finishing up its WP:MILHIST peer review. Lazulilasher (talk) 18:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Finetooth. No rush, if you're able to get to it, that's great :) As always, much appreciated. Lazulilasher (talk) 13:59, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I've just noticed that you've an article at FAC. Please ignore my rude request :) Best of luck! Lazulilasher (talk) 21:26, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Greetings WikiProject Oregon editors. It's time for another edition of the COTW. Thank you to those who helped improve Ken Kesey and the Nike, Inc. last week. This week, by request we have the Northwest Forest Plan and then a Red Link Elimination Drive. For the red links, pick any one you want from any article, the list provided is just to help make it easier. And if you get a good article started, don’t forget to nominate it for a DYK. Once again, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. Aboutmovies (talk) 20:54, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey Finetooth! Sorry to interrupt, but I need another article to be copyedited. This article is a failed A-Class nominee and is at PR now. Well, bye! ~~ ĈĠ Simple? 22:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for Columbia River cite fix

I saw I had messed it up somehow, but didn't see the problem and hadn't yet found the time to look more closely. Looks like I just forgot the word "web" in cite web? Hmm and maybe something to do with line returns? Anyway, thanks for fixing it! Pfly (talk) 23:13, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

How did the map discussion turn out? About the dams? I think it is still unresolved. I'm still not sure what would be best myself. No time to think! Pfly (talk) 23:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Favor

Hi Finetooth, assuming you are not too busy with the Fanno Creek FAC or otherwise, could you take a look at the peer review for Colton Point State Park (some of which will seem familiar from Leonard Harrison State Park)? Thanks in advance for any help, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much - it has already had some very helpful comments from User:Juliancolton, but I always like to have at least two people weigh in at PR before FAC. Also know we need to make a start for the red link and add page numbers for some of the book refs before FAC, so it is not urgent. Thanks again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:30, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Hi Finetooth, a question has arisen at Talk:Colton_Point_State_Park#Format on possibly moving the "Pine Creek Gorge" section to later in the article, after "History". Since you peer reviewed it, would you mind weighing in on this? Thanks in advance, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:05, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Finetooth. I've been testing the waters of Wikipedian article-writing in terms of cities, and I think I'm ready to take on something huge. This something would happen to be a drive to push eighteen of America's largest cities to featured article status. However, the most efficient way for me to organize the goals of each article would be simply to have others point out its flaws. That, of course, means peer review. Are you up for the job?

If so, I have already started up a peer review for the largest of the eighteen cities, Los Angeles, California. It can be found at this location here.

Please get back to me as soon as you can.

Thanks, --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 13:21, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I can assure you that the licensing data for this image is sufficient ;) --04:40, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

  • With respect, Wikipedia's image usage policy requires all images to have three pieces of information: (1) a copyright tag; (2) a verifiable source; and (3) an image summary. The existing license information includes (1) and (3) but not (2). A verifiable source can be in the form of a weblink, a citation for the published work from which the image was scanned, or the name and method of contact for the author. I could see no way to contact the author. I like the image a lot. If it's a scan, you should say so and provide the source. If it's a photo you took, you should say that and provide a way for fact-checkers to contact you. Finetooth (talk) 04:59, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I could see no way to contact the author. you happen to be doing exactly that as we speak. :) --Duk 05:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
I've restored the image to the Sandy River article. Thanks for providing a link to your talk page. When I saw that you hadn't signed your first note above, I sighed. All seems to be well, however. You might tweak the image description a bit to make part (2) a little more obvious. Just a suggestion. Finetooth (talk) 05:43, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

An inelegant solution

I ran into a similar accessdate problem with a few of the Colton Point refs, then came up with a kludge that works (if a bit clunkily), see here diff. Would this work for Columbia River?

I wonder if it would be worth asking User:Tony1 about getting the various cite templates to support unlinked access dates - he has worked wonders with this topic already. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:19, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
PS Thanks again for the peer review on Colton Point. I think I addressed the state scenic river and rail line concerns finally. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:19, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Finetooth, I wanted to thank you for working with me on the Louvre. I have my Strunk & White open, but doubt I will ever be a great copyeditor--yet, I do feel I am improving. However, you are that rarest combination of prose writer and copy editor; I thank you heartily for continuing to work on the article with me (since May!), even while you have an FAC nom going. I think the Louvre is getting close, but I do want a completely uninvolved editor to read and comment before throwing the thing to the wolves. Regardless, please accept my gratitude. Lazulilasher (talk) 17:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

And check out this little thing. It didn't add any locations to the Louvre bibliography, but it did years and oclc's. It evidently will add ISBNs too, if we hadn't already had them. Also, congrats on the FA. Lazulilasher (talk) 01:11, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Cite template access dates

I noticed your exchange with Ruhrfisch above, and just added a cite to the Columbia River article with an accessdate that seems to have made a broken link. I used the example format given in the template's documentation, but clearly it didn't work right. I've never quite grasped the access date format stuff. Can you point me to some info on how to properly use access dates in citation templates? I never seem to get it right, even when following examples given on template doc pages. Pfly (talk) 05:44, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Congratulations!

I just saw Fanno Creek got its FA star - woohoo! Well done, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:52, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
