Since you like to keep up with release dates, you may be interested in reading the future films department's tracking process. We use this process to reassess articles of films that recently come out, since not everybody gets around to looking at the articles' talk pages and reassessing them. For example, when the month of December is out, all films in this category should have been reassessed. If the articles can be reassessed on the day of its release, then it is even better. I imagine that it would have gotten too specific category-wise to go beyond months and use days. At the end of each month, we can close out all the articles that may not have been reassessed at the time of its release. Most editors are good about removing {{Future film}} from an article, but they don't usually venture to the talk page to reassess it as something other than Future-class. Most of them will be Stub-class or Start-class, in my opinion. If it is a possible B-class, then there is criteria found in the {{Film}} template that can be used. For GA, A, and FA classes, they have their own processes. So it is a little more than fixing tenses! It is a good question! In my experience, a film is no longer a future film when it has a non-festival release. Films that screen at festivals still get a limited amount of press. Mainstream media will usually publish reviews when the film is actually accessible to the public (either in limited release or wide release). So for The Great Buck Howard, it only has 7 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. It has not made its splash yet, so it is still an upcoming film. I would say that it is best classified as a 2009 film. There may be expectations to the rule, such as films screening at various festivals and not getting a public release. I tend to follow films that eventually become public, so I am not sure what happens to films that don't make a splash. As for IMDb, I was under the impression that the website identified the release year based on the very first screening, period, where the Academy Awards identify the the release year based on its limited/wide release. For example, IMDb classifies 300 as a 2006 film because it screened at BNAT, but it is widely considered a 2007 film. I was wondering, why don't you use databases to cite runtimes? For example, The New York Times has "109 min." for The Wrestler, which seems more verifiable than a personal measurement of time. —Erik (talkcontrib) 22:12, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What you say makes sense. My primary concern is that the measurement may not be seen as verifiable, especially if the home media does not provide an actual theatrical cut later on. For example, if someone wants to make The Wrestler a Featured Article a year from now for whatever reason, and they go through sources, they may revise your measured runtime to what the databases show. I do not want to nitpick too much since it is only a few minutes' difference in three characters in the entire article, but I just think it might be something that could be challenged later. Revolutionary Road

I haven't seen the commercial you are referencing, but if it is saying January 23, then that is likely the date the film will expand into wide release. Revolutionary Road started in limited release on December 26 in only 3 theaters, and then expanded into 38 theaters in its second week. In week three the theater count jumped up to 135 theaters, and it will probably add some more this weekend (you can see the progression here). I was lucky enough to see it in its second week on January 3, as my local theater was one of the 38 theaters nationwide to get it.
This is a common marketing strategy among award season contenders — open extremely limited at the very end of the year, grow slowly over a couple weeks to capitalize on critical buzz and word of mouth, and then finally expand into wide release (which is defined as 600 or more theaters, but usually the expansion takes it to 1000+) just into the new year when Oscar nominations are being made so it's fresh on the voters' minds. Other recent films that have taken this strategy include Gran Torino (opened limited 12/12, expanded wide 1/9), The Wrestler (opened limited 12/17, expanding wide 1/16), and Defiance (opened limited 12/31, expanding wide 1/16). Sourcing

That first link you give still has Dragonball Evolution coming out on April 8 (it has recently been moved back to have a normal Friday release on 4/10), and the second link, as you point out, was from March 4, before the film was moved to 6/19 circa March 8-14 and again to 6/5 last week. My updates are based on agreement between BoxOfficeMojo and ComingSoon.net. Of course, it's entirely possible the date could get moved again, as the studios seem to become very opportunistic with shuffling dates around as competition moves in and other dates open up. –Fierce Beaver (talk) 22:40, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Removal/addition of whitespace

Hello and sorry. I know several others who remove the white spaces in the infobox to make more room for text, and I personally feel they are unneeded as there is the "|" there to show where that line begins. For the space between the infobox and opening paragraph however I have seen on numerous other articles where that space creates an extra gap at the op of the given page. As for the other space, that one is for readability and editing while the other don't seem as necessary to edit. Just my personal opinion, but if you look, they're obvious, the Relapse one, not so much. If you wish to change, feel free. I'm sorry if I've offended you in anyway. Hangover

I'm not against moving the marketing budget down into the main body, and would probably agree that it's better to list just the production budget there and then mention the marketing costs within the prose. The main reason I split it and explicitly listed both there was because one or two editors had looked at the provided reference from The Numbers, noticed that there were two different budget figures listed, and then averaged the two together mistakenly thinking they represented the same amount. The source content for the bit about the plot being inspired by real life events is a blog about a rumor, it's not reporting on fact. The article itself clearly points out that Warner Brothers, Alan Horn and the NYT support an entirely different version of the story. I don't think it should be included. Re: Removal of Box Office succession boxes

Hmm, I'm afraid that it's not very easy to automatically add a (referenced) sentence to that effect, or check whether there's already one present. By now I'm done with the removal anyways, so that's somewhat of a moot point. The information itself can be recovered quite easily from Template:Lists of box office number-one films, tho (assuming these lists are well referenced), and can be added to the corresponding articles. I can provide you with a list of articles that I edited, although it seems that Xeno already did so on my talk page. Note that User:Erik9bot removed all instances of Template:Box Office Leaders and Template:Box Office Leaders USA. I'm sure a list of those articles can be made, too. I agree that it is an inconvenience to add the information after it has been removed, but in this case I would argue that it is only a minor one. Future-Class

Hello, hope you are doing well! I saw you edit futyear/futmonth details at an article's talk page, and I wanted to let you know that after the election, we will probably discuss deprecating Future-Class as a follow-up to the deprecation and deletion of the {{Future film}} template. This means that we will judge articles in other classes, though I think we will not permit a film article to be a Good Article or a Featured Article before a film's release mainly due to the lack of critical reception coverage before then. Thank for confirming run time

I thought I was the only person who timed films to the second. <smile> Thank you for confirming the run time for Up in the Air (film). I've seen the run time reported as 104, 108 and 109 minutes with 109 being the most common. --Dan Dassow (talk) 01:12, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information you posted on my page. I noticed that the run time for Up in the Air (film) was typically reported as 104 minutes for Telluride and the Toronto International Film Festival. Jason Reitman indicate that he rushed editing the film to make it in time for Telluride. After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
