ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message
Follow-up on the "rapid AfD nominations" discussion
You've been very reasonable and incisive in the other AfDs I've seen you in, so I'm hoping you'll take this little detour through sports notability history into consideration: the reason we're seeing so many of these sportsperson noms being made in the first place is due to the changes in NSPORT, which replaced presumption of notability with "SIGCOV is likely to exist" for all sports guidelines, eliminated the NFOOTY guideline entirely (meaning editors can't use criteria like "pro footballer with ongoing career" or any other NFOOTY-based argument at AfD; these criteria were deprecated because they were so poor at predicting GNG), and added a requirement that at least one independent secondary source of SIGCOV be cited in all athlete articles in order for SPORTCRIT or any of the sport-specific criteria to even apply. NSPORT also has always required its subjects meet GNG (which must be demonstrated "eventually"), but before NSPORTS2022 editors could point to meeting sports guidelines as a reason to assume subjects were notable without actually producing proof of GNG from the start. Due to the extremely lax standards in NFOOTY, this led to mass creation of hundreds of thousands of footballer stubs (such that something like one in six Wikipedia biographies is on a footballer; the person who made the plurality of these was topic banned and is now facing further sanctions at Arbcom), most of which do not actually meet GNG. So now that all the presumptions from meeting the former NFOOTY criteria have been removed, and because we know (from hundreds of prior AfDs) that many of the former criteria were especially bad at predicting GNG, footballer articles that don't have a single SIGCOV ref are under a lot of scrutiny. And since there are literally hundreds of thousands of footballer microstubs, they make up a huge proportion of all AfDs.
Another thing to note is that some members of the football project (and other sports projects) vigorously opposed the extremely well-attended global consensuses at the NSPORT RfC, deliberately interfered with its implementation, continued to use the deprecated guidelines at AfD for months despite multiple warnings, even now refuse to acknowledge the requirement that athlete biographies must have a source of SIGCOV, and have resorted to spamming AfDs with non-independent, non-SIGCOV sources claiming GNG is met even though they know it isn't.
Anyway, I'm only saying all this because I was impressed with your conduct at the Teppei AfD and hope you continue participating in sportsperson deletions. We definitely need more editors involved, especially ones who have a robust threshold for what constitutes GNG coverage. JoelleJay (talk) 20:59, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi JoelleJay. First and foremost, thank you for your kind words regarding the other AFDs.
- I understand your points entirely and thanks for noting all of this. The problem with this one is I am sat on the fence and part of the reason I gave it a weak keep at the time (as I said, I didn’t explain myself fully at the time). The sourcing at the AFD as you mentioned doesn’t pass the guidelines. However, I’m of the belief that sources could be found on this subject, and before making a concrete decision will make a comment on the AFD asking other users if they can find any/or if they are likely to be found. Of course, we can’t keep articles if the sourcing we have isn’t good enough or because it is likely to be out there.
- You’ll definitely still see me at the AFDs in future discussions. I’m just taking a short break from participating in new AFDs and edits on Wikipedia due to the passing of a relative on Saturday night, and have a few thing to sort out. However, I will continue to monitor the AFDs that I have previously participated with in my spare time. Fats40boy11 (talk) 06:35, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Theatre Royal, Southampton
It is in the queue! You can track where it is in the schedule here. (Sometimes it changes, but for now it's in Prep Area 5 which would publish at 1am BST on 22 August.) So if you do have a chance to take a photo before then, that would great. (If not, no worries.) Cielquiparle (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks @Cielquiparle, that’s good to hear. Unfortunately I will be unable to take a photo for the foreseeable future as one of my relatives was admitted to hospital today (they haven’t been coping well since two weeks ago when my other relative passed).
- As much as I would love to help and get the photo as planned, I’m not sure right now is the best time, and I think it may be a good idea to step away from Wikipedia for a short while to ensure they get the help and support that they need.
- On a more positive note, I hope that your enjoying the sun, albeit it is a little too hot. Fats40boy11 (talk) 16:35, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

- Thank you, will do. Also, no need to apologise, you haven’t bothered me. I’m looking forward to seeing your hard work pay off. Fats40boy11 (talk) 19:24, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Dorset monasteries
Hi. These unreferenced stubs have been on my watchlist for years - thanks for the sharp stick to do something about them at last. Best wishes, Ingratis (talk) 07:25, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Ingratis. No worries, I’ve added a ton of them to my watchlist as well after tagging them. Thank you for expanding, improving or redirecting them.
- I didn’t realise how many of these unreferenced stubs about monasteries across England were until I actually started tagging them. It seems like the page creator mass created these unreferenced stubs years ago with the hope that others would expand them. I’m not going to lie, it is a bit frustrating, but it is what it is.
- Again, thanks for the help with these articles. King regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 07:34, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- I remember Starzynka - he or she was actually very pleasant to deal with, and monasteries do nearly always turn out to be notable, but obvs that doesn't mean that they can dispense with references. On the plus side, at least they're not sports-related... All best, Ingratis (talk) 08:03, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
I think I've finished the Dorset ones, at least for now, so will take a look at some of the others. Ingratis (talk) 09:01, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Ingratis. I’m still going through a few to see what the scope of the work is going to look like.
- I’ve also left a message on Wikiproject Christianity for some extra help if needed and to remind them of these unreferenced stubs. Fats40boy11 (talk) 09:15, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
DYK for Theatre Royal, Southampton
On 24 August 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Theatre Royal, Southampton, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. Sport Republic draft
Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia and you're definitely not! You edit a lot of Southampton articles as well so I was wondering if you can help improve Draft:Sport Republic? Would really appreciate it! Thanks, Wriest Wriest (talk) 12:32, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Wriest. Firstly, welcome to Wikipedia and I hope your enjoying your time here.
- Of course I can have a look at Draft:Sport Republic to help improve it where I can. From what I am reading at the moment, the submission was declined at the time because there wasn’t enough significant coverage. I’ll have a look around and see if I can find sources. Kind regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 12:45, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Wow, thank you so much for all of that editing! Definitely couldn't do that myself! Really appreciate it and hopefully one day I can edit like that! Wriest (talk) 17:30, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
- No worries @Wriest, and thank you for your kind words. I’ll add some more stuff if I see anything, and I’ll add some relevant draft categories too.
- If you stick at Wikipedia, your definitely find that editing slowly gets easier the more you edit. You will make some mistakes along the way, just like every new user does just like myself, but don’t be disheartened by any of it.
- Just keep doing what your doing and I’m sure your find it easier with time and, if needed, use the help pages. They helped massively when I first started. Fats40boy11 (talk) 17:46, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for your work on this article. Unfortunately, as he has not made a first team appearance so far, he doesn't meet the relevant guidelines so should be deleted. I am not going to nominate it, but someone else might. Just a "heads-up". Best wishes. Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 10:27, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Daemonickangaroo2018. I’m expecting it to be nominated by someone as he hasn’t played any professional games yet.
- I was going to create a draft and wait until the relevant guidelines were met, but saw that an article was created last night so decided to improve it where I could. Personally, I think it is too soon to have his own article seeing as he hasn’t played any games and this means there’s little any of us can do right now. Kind regards. Disambiguation link notification for June 2
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Paul Tierney (referee), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page National League. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Greetings from France
Thanks for your recent edits to Southampton FC players and managers. I have a collection of most of the Hagiology books about the Saints. If there is anything that you would like me to look up or add a citation for, please let me know. I’ll be happy to oblige on my return to the IK on Monday. Best wishes Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 16:36, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @Daemonickangaroo2018, hope all is well. Thank you for offering your help, it is much appreciated. Since the season is over and there are no statistics for me to update, I decided to edit Southampton FC related articles that have been tagged or needed improving. The managers have been the most frustrating to edit, especially the older ones. As I don’t have any books on the managers, it is a bit of a challenge for me to edit the further back I go.
- One of the managers that I have identified of needing work is Sid Cann. His article currently cites no sources and has a broken Soccerbase link. I am not able to find anything online which isn’t surprising as he played in the 1920s/30s and managed in the 1940s to 1970s. According to the article currently, he left Southampton after falling out with the board and joined the club at some stage as a physio but I am unable to verify any of this.
- Another manager that I am struggling with is George Goss who going by the article only managed Southampton. It only has one reference, but given that he only managed the club for one year there might not be a lot out there for him.
- Would you be able to help verify some of the content of Cann and Goss? I hope it is not too much of an ask and it would be much appreciated. Kind regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 17:57, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Good morning. I’m ashamed to admit that I created the Goss article and added content (e.g. date of death) to the Cann article (albeit under a previous username) without adding any sources. I will look up what I can and get back to you. Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 06:07, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, it is much appreciated. Fats40boy11 (talk) 06:46, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Sources
So far I found https://www.theguardian.com/global/commentisfree/2023/jul/14/british-media-tabloids-huw-edwards-bbc
How needed is it, though? I mean, it's a not some new fact I edited in (like it did), with one literally linking to a section above and another to an article where anyone can verify the information... only thing not including this in that section would do is not allow people to see the big picture unless they read everything possible about the paper... 92.21.87.105 (talk) 19:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comment and I hope all is well. A source is needed in most circumstances, and in this case it is no different.
- Although it is not new information necessarily what The Sun did in the past, it is a new angle of a story/discussion that developed only after the recent controversy. The key issue was you didn’t state who it was noted by, and it was a case of by whom was it noted. It may be better to say The Guardian noted instead of it was noted but that is just a suggestion.
- The Guardian article seems good, and although it only has a passing mention on the page three images within The Sun, I believe it would be sufficient. Kind regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 06:25, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Do you think it's undue? 92.21.87.105 (talk) 23:17, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Hi - thanks for your edits this morning, and generally for all your Saints related edits. I have just read through the Everton section - what a mess - I guess it was written by someone for whom English is not their first language. Enjoy the match this afternoon, COYR! Daemonickangaroo2018 (talk) 07:55, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
- No problem. After you pointed out the Everton section, I've skimmed over it and I agree – it is a bit of a mess. I'll try to add some sources, and also rephrase some of it as well. I'm kind of surprised at how much of a mess it is to be honest.
- I can help to tidy it up later today or tomorrow when I have some spare time as I am going to the match today. Let’s hope we can bring home the three points. Kind regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 08:19, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Xisco Muñoz - Reply
Good morning, from Portugal!
Thanks for the kind and to-the-point message, apologies for the belated reply. The only thing i feels needs discussion here is the following: i prefer the current infobox format because it's shorter from an editor point of view, if you want to change data you do so in only a few centimeters, whereas with the other it's needlessly longer/more time-consuming in my humble opinion; i also don't think it's needed to add ALL clubs he managed AND the dates he arrived/departed in the intro (as much as you don't do that for clubs as player, that's what the pertinent career sections are for; and imagine he coaches 50 clubs during his life - he's still young - we surely are not going to add them all to lede, wouldn't you agree?), but since you did not revert my work i was not going to do that to yours, i merely composed it.
Keep up the good work as well, happy weekend. RevampedEditor (talk) 08:51, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- No worries. If you're happy with the infobox, that is fine with me. I find it to be a bit more jumbled in my opinion, but neither format is wrong. I'm not sure which user messed about with the current club initially, but I unintentionally restored that version when reverting an edit for which I apologise. Kind regards. Fats40boy11 (talk) 09:04, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- Also, regarding the comments about the lead, I updated it as it was slightly outdated. On 23 September, before he was dismissed, there was some content already there about his first two clubs in management. At this moment in time, I'd say it is best to mention all or none of his management jobs in the lead excluding maybe perhaps his first and major roles (this is when it gets subjective however as every job is considered a major job to fans of the respective club) in management. If he does go on to manage 50 clubs throughout his life then I agree it would be a bit much to mention every club, and this would be a discussion to be had – although it is premature to be having this conversation right now since as you mention he is only young.
