week 5/XXCP
I edit this Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stomach_cancer&type=revision&diff=1083074500&oldid=1081261100 Let me know if this is okay. The article I used talked about the risk factors that prevent patients from going to the doctor and how long it takes the patients to see doctors. From young to old patients, they all have different reasons for not going to the doctor until it is too late, but what matter is that they all realize when it is too late. Week 5 / Vermi1ion
For this week's assignment I have contributed to the Wikipedia article titled Abrupt climate change, as it is tangential to the topic I have been covering in our semester-long assignment. I added additional information under the General heading, adding context about how forestry ecosystems might be impacted by abrupt climate change. Link to the diff While working on this I learned to carefully consider where to add information. I was tempted to add this citation in the middle of the paragraph above where ecosystems are mentioned, but realized I'd be breaking up a well structured thought, all related to a single report and decided it was best to add my own contribution to its own paragraph. --Vermi1ion (talk) 00:28, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Week 5/ Bettyhwt
Hello Professor, for week 5, I chose a new article Demographic transition. This article gives me a more systematic understanding of the five stages of demographic transition and the different characteristics of each stage through scientific statistics. In addition, each country has specific demographic changes phenomenon, such as the United States which had a pattern of colonization throughout its history, where a high mortality rate has been reduced by land expansion. Here is the link to the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Demographic_transition&type=revision&diff=1082267083&oldid=1081197862 --Bettyhwt (talk) 07:23, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Bettyhwt Citations alone generally do not add value. Beyond adding a citation alone, make sure to provide a sentence or two within the article itself to express your contribution in context (which the citation will support). This will demonstrate how your addition adds to the overall knowledge in the article. Please add a sentence or two to the article you edited and then ping me here when done. --- FULBERT (talk) 14:47, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- @FULBERT I have fixed the problem. Please check. Trying to revise a few sentences within the article to better express the citation statement. - @Tianhao Ning Your edit does not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of using reliable, third-party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE. Always use a reliable source, such as to an academic journal article or other high-quality reference as discussed in the assignment and in class. Avoid blogs, corporate websites, reviews, press releases, and opinion pieces as they generally do not count as reliable sources. Please either assign yourself a different article and add a credible source that is needed to it or find and cite a more reliable source to the one you edited. Valve Corporation is currently one of the most successful game companies in the world, and its success is inseparable from the help of Steam. Here is the diff: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Valve_Corporation&type=revision&diff=1083081946&oldid=1079851103 This week, I learned a lot from the citations. Week 6 / YC5039
For week 6, I assigned myself two articles: korean idol and Hot pot. Both of them are the things I am interested in so in order to know more about them, I chose these articles. This is the link to the diff of Korean idol: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Korean_idol&type=revision&diff=1083374828&oldid=1081302485. I added a citation about the recognition of Korean idol. Though the idol culture becomes more popular somehow, some extreme, fanatical behaviors in this culture have made society have a lot of prejudice and negative stereotypes about the culture. And this is the link to the diff of Hot pot: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hot_pot&type=revision&diff=1083369208&oldid=1083125255. It's one of my favorite dishes and I added a citation about the history of its spread around the world. From it, I learned how it becomes popular and known around the world.YC5039 (talk) 14:02, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Week 6/ Bettyhwt
Hi, Professor. For week 6, I assigned myself two articles: Pension and Economy of China. The reason I chose them is I am interested in economic growth and social welfare topics. This is the link to the diff of Pension: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Pension&type=revision&diff=1083463977&oldid=1081439942. I've added a reference to the Ireland Pension place about the total contributions approach, and how it affects contribution plans further. Through research, I feel the OECD document is a very powerful resource to look at because it published a glance report each year to show the latest pension information for each participating country. Another link to the diff of Economy of China: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Economy_of_China&type=revision&diff=1083466028&oldid=1082835376. I am very interested in this topic is because want to take a close look at the economic dynamics and recently China has been published the new Q1 GDP data. I learned a lot of new things from this article. --Bettyhwt (talk) 00:17, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Bettyhwt, A couple of minor issues in the language you used for these two edits, but overall they were well-cited and solid contributions to the articles. Current with Week 6. FULBERT (talk) 00:09, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
Week 6/ NeverlandAriana
Hi professor, in week six I edit two articles Leslie Cheung and In the Mood for Love. The diff link of the first article:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Leslie_Cheung&type=revision&diff=1083281240&oldid=1082600991. The reference I added talks about Leslie Cheung‘s life story as a superstar, I add some details about how he came out of the closet in his concert.
The diff link of the second article:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=In_the_Mood_for_Love&type=revision&diff=1083646232&oldid=1081813577. The reference I added is a Hong Kong English newspaper, the article talks about how this film In the Mood for Love faced criticism when it was released at first, but gradual earned positive reviews in these twenty years. I add some information about some reviews of this film, such as how the mainstream media appraised this film.
In this week, I learn that professional magazine is a good resource to find references.--NeverlandAriana (talk) 00:39, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Week 7/ NeverlandAriana
Hi professor, this week seven I edit two articles Ashes of Time and A Better Tomorrow. The diff link of the first article:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ashes_of_Time&type=revision&diff=1083817689&oldid=1083765420. The first article I added a citation talks about the difference between Wang Kar Wai‘s wuxia film and normal wuxia type film. I add some sentences to say that one key point of this film, the characters' mood is more important than the martial arts action.
The diff link of the second article:https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=A_Better_Tomorrow&type=revision&diff=1083833189&oldid=1080715674. The second citation is from The Hollywood Reporter, which talks about the fact that this film deeply influenced the west film industry as well as some famous American directors.
Because I edit many Wikipedia articles about films topic, I think some authoritative magazines & websites focused on entertainment or the film industry are useful sources of information.--NeverlandAriana (talk) 02:18, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

Second article is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbidden_City. The diff link is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Forbidden_City&type=revision&diff=1083918685&oldid=1077271280. For this article, I have added reference about the layout of the Forbidden City to further explain its massiveness. I enjoy editing the wiki pages even though it quite a process to find articles that I want to edit and to find the corresponding references. --DDDANII (talk) 15:20, 21 April 2022 (UTC)
- @DDDANII Nice edits on both. Current with Week 7. --- FULBERT (talk) 16:37, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Week 8 / DDDANII
Hi professor, I worked on inserting a photo in the article. By following the instruction in the training, I first upload the photo I took onto the Wikimedia commons. Then, inserting the photo in the article Dalian. There is the diff link: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dalian&type=revision&diff=1084200210&oldid=1083622276. Insert a picture is a new skill that I learned during this process, also learned about what kind of pictures is allowed to use for wikipedia. The extra credit assignments really gave the opportunity to boost grades while learning something new that I probably will not have the chance to learn anywhere else. It may be a little bit overwhelmed with the editing rules, but it will get much better with a few edits. It is a great experience overall. I think I will continue editing on Wikipedia to make my contribution and learn new knowledges. --DDDANII (talk) 04:11, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- DDDANII, Nice addition and congrats on completing the assignment! FULBERT (talk) 16:43, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

From this article, I had a minor change that revising the Pacers–Pistons brawl part. The second part is Instagram, the link of the article is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instagram#Harmful_effect_on_teenage_girls%E2%80%99_mental_health, the link of the article is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Instagram&diff=prev&oldid=1084217387. I had a minor changed that adding a sentence for harmful effect on teenage girls’mental health in Instagram. I have learned that sometimes Wikipedia is not 100% accurate. When we need more accurate information, the best way is to look for academic articles. At the same time, we should try our best to correct some mistakes.JuggleY (talk) 07:26, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- JuggleY, Nice edits, including your own fixing of your typo. Current with Week 6. --- FULBERT (talk) 16:46, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

I EDITED Qingming festival article and contributed a citation. Here is the link to the difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Qingming_Festival&type=revision&diff=1084301014&oldid=1082832122 The second article is about chinese cuisine. Week 6/Alitea10101
This week, I assigned myself two articles. The first one is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laksa#Popularity, and the difference is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Laksa&diff=1084365341&oldid=1082453526. I added a scholarly resource on how Laksa was introduced to Australia as early as 1970 and it is the reason why laksa is commonly seen in Australia now. The second article I assigned was: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_yum and the difference is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tom_yum&diff=1084366890&oldid=1076055097. I added a scholarly resource based on some potential health effects of this national Thai food from the perspective of food science. The biggest takeaway for me this week is probably reviewing the editing history of those articles. In the Laksa article, one editor removed the phase Peranakan Chinese in one paragraph because he or she believed that the origin of this dish is far away from where Peranakan Chinese live. However, later editors added back this phase with scholar edivences. I find this really interesting. Alitea10101 (talk) 02:10, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Alitea10101 Nice edits, and one of them was already improved upon by another editors. Current with Week 6. --- FULBERT (talk) 16:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)
