Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Jewish categories

[edit]

DO NOT add categories to articles listing someone as being Jewish without clear evidence (in both the text of the article and in its reliable sources) that the subject has publicly self-identified as Jewish. To do otherwise is to violate WP:BLPCAT. In particular it is not sufficient to document their family background or upbringing. —David Eppstein (talk) 22:12, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also note, there needs to be reliably sourced evidence within the article supporting the notion that the religion/ethnicity is a defining characteristic of the subject. WP:CATDEF describes this in more detail.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:22, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was aware of that. I remarked that the only origin that lacked in the category psychoanalysts was that of the Jews, after so many years, it was needed to correct that discrimination, especially when it is known that the contribution of Jews to this domain was very important. Your observations are valid also for the other many nationalities and origins which have categories by origin and nobody had objections about Ewan2 (talk) 23:00, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you are trying to identify the ethnic origin of these people rather than their religious identification, you are doing it wrong. See "For people of Jewish descent who don't identify as Jews, please see Category:People of Jewish descent." at Category:Jews. —David Eppstein (talk) 00:23, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what violation of policy is to specify for instance that Sigmund Freud was a Jewish psychoanalyst. (It was a shame that lacked this category and you had to welcome that). I follow the instances of the other categories, already existent, like Jewish psychiatrists, Jewish psychologists, and so on Ewan2 (talk) 00:26, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Our article on Freud specifically talks about his allegiance to a secular identify. Therefore, he did not publicly self-identify as an adherent to the Jewish faith. He certainly was of Jewish descent, but that's a different thing than identifying him, specifically, as being a person whose Jewish religion is a verifiable and defining characteristic. WP:BLPCAT is not optional. Read it and follow it. —David Eppstein (talk) 00:29, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, but Freud for instance, had already categories which mention his Jewish origin. I only added the fact of being also a Jewish psychanalyst. That has nothing to do, as you know with being secular or religious. Freud had not shame of being Jewish. I didn't invented the categories about Jews in the English Wikipedia. There are plenty of that. I only added that of Jewish psychanalysts. There exist already big categories about Jewish microbiologists, mathematicians, physicians, physicists, politicians, actors, singer, composers, athletes, clowns, etc etc and that's OK. The Jewish people is one of the brave world's nations exactly as the Armenians, the Malgaches , the Roma and Sinti, the Pakistanis and the Dagestanis Ewan2 (talk) 00:33, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Past violations of policy do not justify your additional violations of policy. If you keep arguing about policy and violating policy instead of respecting it and helping to clean up the problems you have created, you are likely to get blocked. As for your comparisons with the Dagestani etc, that's what the "Jewish descent" categories are for. The "Jewish" categories are not. They are only for people who have self-identified as Jews and for whom that identification is defining. —David Eppstein (talk) 01:45, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As I stated, I know these points and I was aware of them in the new category. There are no violations of any policy. I am aware also about the difference between Jewish and of Jewish descent, Ewan2 (talk) 01:56, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you wanted a category "Psychologists of Jewish descent" you should have named it that. It might not pass muster for other reasons, but at least it would not violate WP:BLPCAT. —David Eppstein (talk) 02:14, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is not about Psychologists, they have Jewish categories, it is about Psychoanalysts who had no category. It is a shame, to do so about the people who invented this domain.Ewan2 (talk) 02:20, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Smell of antisemitism

[edit]

Your reversions of the category Jewish psychoanalysts, Mr.David Eppstein, are unjust, provocative and incorrect and smell of Antisemitism, which are totally contrary to the values of Wikipedia Ewan2 (talk) 02:05, 10 March 2018 (UTC) The "policy " was used in this case for cancelling the contribution of Jews to the psychoanalysis.Ewan2 (talk) 02:29, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Shmuel Erlich. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You should know better than to violate Wikipedia policy after this discussion. Continued violations will earn you a block. —David Eppstein (talk) 02:31, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Defamatory to say that Freud or Shmuel Erlich are Jews?

[edit]

Strange. Instead to block the real vandals. Your cancellations are vandalism not my editing. You abuse the policy for your antiJewish agenda Ewan2 (talk) 02:35, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not defamatory, of course, merely violating policy. Since you refuse to stop, I have blocked you for 24 hours. If that doesn't stop it, the length will get longer. —David Eppstein (talk) 02:45, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please include citations and summaries when editing

[edit]

Hello Ewan. You recently added a name to the O'Dea article without providing a citation. I was going to remove your edit but first I searched the internet for this person. I found a citation, and I added it. This wasted my time. Material added to articles without citations may be removed, and citations are essential to keep the encyclopaedia free of rubbish. Also, would you please take an extra second or two to include an edit summary? Wikipedia advises, "always provide an edit summary" to help other editors. You only add summaries 32.8% of the time. A tag has been placed on Category:Hungarian Jewish violonists requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Thank you for your comment. I cleared the references to wikipedia (link to the article about a person) and the clips from youtube. It is not easy to bring media sources for the radio and educational TV activity in the pre-internet period. There are few recordings and כfew of them are uploaded on Youtube, The translations from the American and English literature were appreciated in the quoted reviews in the Hebrew journals and magazines, by well known personalities of theIsraeli literature and media. in Israel in the 1980-2000th years there were not thousands of radio stations but only very few, channels of the Israeli Broadcasting Authority. The article underwent many improvements, has many footnotes, is based on reliable and verifiable sources, especially from the most important newspapers Maariv, Yediot Aharonot, Haaretz etc and other well known written media in Israel, it s true most of them in Hebrew, but this is the language in that West-Asian country. it is true that radiobroadcasting is now a more neglected domain, and sources about radio broadcasting in the 1990-2000th are not many, there are in newspapers, in some books, and someones also in youtube (the voice of the broadcaster and narrator) that are not accepted in wikipedia. The article is about a radio personality, interviewer and author of scientific and cultural programs very appreciated in Israel for a long period of time, also an appreciated translator of English and American literature (which would be a significant item for English Wikipedia)- including literature for children and poetry (among the sources are mentioned reviews by important Israeli writers, who appreciated his translations, published in serious publishing houses. It is not fair not to accept this article in the English wikipedia. The article exists in the Hebrew Wikipedia and in the Romanian Wikipedia. Ewan2 (talk) 20:36, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Help to make the draft acceptable again in the English Wikipedia. Ewan2 (talk) 22:38, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know what you mean by "again", but it's not likely that anyone is going to help you any more than the feedback you're getting from reviewers of the draft. If you have more specific questions as to the issues with the draft, you can ask the reviewers more precise questions. You can also ask for help at the WP:Teahouse.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:51, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Again"- because the article was published on 3d august 2021 and was changed to draft only after 4 months on 14th December 2021.Ewan2 (talk) 00:13, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
