Summerhill edit

Hello, I'm Eteethan. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Summerhill School, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Eteethan(talk) 18:28, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Ethan. I must admit I find the Summerhill School article very frustrating. It was taken over by someone who simply uses Bailey and his book.

I work at the school, the changes I made reflect the current practice of the school. Bailey writes with little knowledge of these practices. I realise that I did not put citations. Indeed the current practice of the school is difficult to make citations for. I was going to include citations, but you changed it before I could.

It would be a bit sad if a page on Summerhill School could not have input from its present staff.

Rollback

Hi Eteethan/Archive 2. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Biblioworm 07:16, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

You added a biased statement when you said his consecration was invalid. Also, you added the letters "co" after a file name. Everything else looked fine though. You can re-add everything else if you remove what I just told you about. Thanks, Ethan. Eteethan (talk) 17:57, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

1. I did not add the statement saying that the consecration was invalid. I removed it.

The original line was: Thomas was consecrated (invalidly) in a ceremony in which twelve priests...

I changed it to: Thomas was consecrated in a ceremony in which twelve priests...

2. The 'co' after the filename was a mistake. I will correct it.

Thanks for reviewing my changes.

Eteethen, I'm new to Wikipedia. My name is Mike Caren and I'm the President of A&R for Warner Music Group. The entry for Charlie Puth's "One Call Away" was missing on of the substantial songwriters of the song. The song was written by 5 people in Santa Barbara this summer and one was left off the credits here. The main registry of songwriters is the societies ASCAP and BMI. If you check them, you will see all five are listed. Please re-instate the addition I made as its the accurate listing of the songwriters. The current listing is incorrect.

hello

Hi Eteethan,

I am not sure if this is the correct way to send you a message, however, I believe my edits are substantiated and that they constitute a very significant part of the history of this house. I am not sure what you mean by "constructive"? Can you please explain constructive to what? This is an important piece of history and other previous owners are mentioned by name. I refer to the edits that I made regarding the Nuits historical house, the current owner, the price tag and the irony involving millions of Americans losing their homes while the current owner spends a large banking bonus that he earned advising American International Group restoring the house. I think it is very relevant to the history.

East Central University Reverts

Eteethan, a page that I have on my watch list has been edited by you. Please, if you are going to undo edits or remove material, follow wikipedia suggested guidelines. Yes, you are right that some sources on the East Central University page were not properly cited, but your revision/undo did not change this. Looking at the edits, most of the information on the page was already there, it was just been formatted differently. Seems that about all new information was cited.

If you have an issue with how material is sourced, please deal with those individual cases rather than reverting large swaths of edits to return to previous versions.

Thanks

Hello --- Question about reverting edits

Hi! So...I'm new. You recently reverted my edits to the article on Marple Newtown School District, because you did not feel that they were constructive. I just wanted to know why, so that I can not do whatever I did in the future. My addition was meant to be serious...I'm not trying to vandalize anything.

My recent edit to Mike Pender's page

Mike Pender's Searchers use their own custom built lighting and sound equipment and Mike Pender uses his famous 12-string Rickenbacker.

In 2012 Mike Pender's Searchers accepted the invitation to play at the Concert to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of The Star Club, Hamburg.

Mike completed two 'British Invasion' tours of the USA in 2014 and such was the popularity of these tours, he returned to the States in February and March 2015 for a similar tour. This tour was followed by an extensive UK tour celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the popular Solid Silver Sixties series. Later in 2015 Mike played gigs in Bangkok, the Netherlands, the Channel Islands, Scandinavia and Germany.

In 2014 Pender released his autobiography, 'Origins of The Searchers and the Search for Myself', with foreword by Bill Kenwright, CBE.

Sorry, but the work "Bootle" looks suspicious. Please don't forget to sign your posts! Eteethan (talk) 21:55, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Reverted Edits to Nature Conservancy, topic "Junk Mail"

Yesterday, I edited the "Nature Conservancy" page with the following addition:

"Junk Mail The Nature Conservancy asks for monetary contributions, in part by sending out unsolicited promotional letters, calendars, et cetera (i.e., so-called "junk mail"). The practice of sending junk mail wastes millions of trees (per year), produces greenhouse gases equivalent to millions of cars (per year), and wastes billions of gallons of water (per year), according to the environmental impact group 41pounds.org. [34]"

You reverted my edit with the kind and friendly message:

"Hello, I'm Eteethan. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to The Nature Conservancy— because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Eteethan (talk) 21:24, 3 December 2015 (UTC)"

Thank you for your friendly message. However, I must admit I do not understand why you reverted the edit. It is a fact that TNC sends junk mail. Junk mail is a serious environmental issue, and I tried to document that fact with a reference to the 41pounds.org page. I don't see how that is not a valid criticism (to be added to the "Criticism" section of the Wikii page) to a nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to help nature / environment.

129.162.151.241 (talk) 18:13, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

@129.162.151.241: First, sorry for the late reply. I saw this message and was going to reply but got wrapped up in other things. Your addition looks fine but when I first saw it I thought you were one of those people who hate the environment who add untrue things to an article to make the organization look bad. But, after reading your addition and source I think this addition looks fine. Thanks, and sorry for the delay, Ethan. Eteethan(talk) 17:13, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Etetthan. I'm glad my contribution can be seen as constructive. In fact, I am an avid environmentalist, and I hope that this constructive criticism of NC can help them revise their policy on Junk Mail. I really think it's a very environmentally harmful (as well as just plain wasteful) activity. I have tried calling the NC to ask them to make systematic changes to their Junk Mail practices, but they say they can only promise to stop sending *me* junk mail, but they would still keep flooding everyone's snail mail box with reams of wasted paper. I did suggest to them there were other, more environmentally friendly ways to spread the word and raise money, but they don't seem interested in doing that. So, I'm disappointed in them but wish them the best success in other (non-Junk-mail-related) efforts to help make the world better. Torrico Edits

Over the past 2 to 3 years, I have been in an “editing” dispute over the wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_Torrico

I am the subject of this page. I have tried repeatedly to self-edit the page.

The current version of the article is defamatory in many respects. Let me address each area in turn below:

Unemployment:

It states that I was paid for “attending” a few key meetings. In fact, I processed over 20,000 unemployment cases in my 2 years on the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. See attached my letter of resignation to Speaker John Perez. I can document the number of cases I processed as well.

Non-Voting Controversy: I did not vote for the bill because I believed it would be vetoed or rejected by the Senate as written, and was seeking amendments that would get it signed. As I predicted, the Senate did NOT pass the bill. Here is the link to that vote: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/09-10/bill/sen/sb_0751-0800/sb_797_vote_20100831_1141PM_sen_floor.html

Gay Marriage

2 or 3 days after the first vote, I changed my vote and voted in FAVOR of gay marriage. Here is the link that records my vote: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/05-06/bill/asm/ab_0001-0050/ab_19_vote_20050602_0728PM_asm_floor.html

Kickbacks: Never received any kickbacks. Never charged with any such behavior.

Assault/Affair: Attached please find the court order in this matter, which shows that Trisha Tahmasbi provoked the assault. It was mutual.

I would like this page to be either edited to neutral material, or removed altogether. It is unfair to pick and distort my voting record. I voted on several thousand bills over my 6 years in the Assembly. I believe the content currently posted is defamatory and if not removed I will be forced to begin legal action. At such time, I will request the URL identity of ALL negative posters and will pursue legal action all of them. I am no longer a public figure, so neither Wikipedia nor the posters of the information are protected by the defamatory postings.

I appreciate your consideration of this matter.

DNB

Hi. You reverted a comment that I made on dinitrobenzene because "it didn't appear constructive to me".

The original text on that subject states: "The dinitrobenzenes are all crystalline solids. The boiling points of the three isomers are relatively close; however, the melting points significantly differ. 1,4-Dinitrobenzene, which has the highest symmetry, has the highest melting point."

I added text (to the original author, but also to alert the lay user): "[what does this mean? something is symmetrical or it is not; and 13-DNB is symmetrical about the 2-5 axis yet it has the lowest MP]"

The point is that symmetry is absolute, something is either symmetrical or it is not. Furthermore, the original author infers a relationship between higher degree of symmetry (which is a nonsense) and higher melting point. But this is erroneous because 1,3-DNB, which is also symmetrical, has the lowest melting point. What you do with the edit is of no interest to me, I merely wanted to explain the purpose of the edit.

And let's not even start on the ambiguity of the word "significantly"! ;) 194.230.101.147 (talk) 13:25, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi. That edit caused that content to be displayed to anyone reading the page. If you have something to say to the author, you can post on his talk page or the article talk page. Thanks, Ethan. Eteethan(talk) 14:07, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

your 3RR report

You came really, really close to a boomerang when you filed that 3RR report on Visa requirements for Turkish citizens. You need to get admins involved much earlier in the process when the reversions are flying fast and furious as they were here. Another admin may very well have blocked you.

This is a highly contentious topic under discretionary sanctions, so be careful when you're dealing with these articles. We've also had a truckload of difficulty in the last few weeks with ARBPIA, ARBAA, and ARBPIA3.

Vandalism is vandalism, no doubt. Just take care and make sure you're familiar with the editing restrictions in these areas, so you can get us involved quicker. Let me know if you have questions. :-) Katietalk 22:06, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

@KrakatoaKatie: The reason for all of this is that previous to these edits by 78.178.92.85 another ip (176.233.218.150 made exactly the same reverts multiple times and then was blocked. After the block the 78 ip began reverting the same exact edits. I've opened up an SPI here. Eteethan(talk) 22:14, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
I understand – investigated the thing for 20 minutes. Although both are in Turkey, your two IPs (both static) geolocate to different places and different ISPs, so it's unlikely they're the same guy. Could be meatpuppets, which is entirely possible given the topic area. We're about to pull our collective hair out over ARBEURO and ARBIPA stuff. It's insane.
As for SPI, it's useless here - they're looking for socks of registered users and you need a username to put with your allegations. If you've got one, great. If not, the clerks will just close the SPI without action. Even if they don't and recommend CheckUser, it's exceedingly rare for CheckUsers to out IPs, even of a prolific sockmaster.
Like I said, just be aware of the problems in this area and get us into it earlier next time. Good counter-vandalism work, btw. Katietalk 22:28, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice! Eteethan(talk) 22:37, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ethan, the comments I made were not vandalism, the addition to Miles Peirce name was his nick name used by all the players at the time. The addition of the reference to Andy Reichwald who was a a player throughout the 3 decades mentioned and has omitted to mention himself, and without whom the article would not exist ref ASIN: B001448UO4

I myself am mentioned in this article under Dave(Badger)Bosworth.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but the comments were not meant to defame or vandalise this page in any way.

Generally when somebody adds this type of comment to a page, it would be considered vandalism, but obviously this was not your intention. When making an edit that could be perceived as vandalism, add an edit summary explaining your change. Also be sure to cite reliable sources whenever you make a change. Finally, don't add your email address to a talk page on Wikipedia as it could be harassed/attacked. I've removed it here for you. Thanks, Ethan. Eteethan(talk) 23:46, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
You have my full support! I came across Wikipedia bureaucracy before and it is the thing behind the fall of Wikipedia activity. You can read my full "rant" on my page but the main idea is that it is absolutely unacceptable for admins to even mention 3RR to users who fought vandalism. Yes it is easy and fast to brandish the 3RR around but it highly discourages anyone from fighting rule breakers ever again. Too many admins don't wish to spend more than 60 seconds on a case but too little will skip getting involved in things they can not invest necessary time into. The 3RR seems to be the most important rule outweighing even clear vandalism. But if you seek help of admins before reverting you have a 90% chance of getting rejected either under "this is a content dispute" or "insufficient warnings or attempts to talk to the other editor". The obvious nonsense of talking to someone who came here to blank content randomly does not strike too many. Report it and you will get rejected, take things into your own hands and you will get punished. So this barnstar is to encourage you not to give up, although I know it's a slim chance as most people do quickly give up. Thank you for making Wikipedia a better place! @Twofortnights: Thank you for the kind words. I was very confused when I got a message from an admin about me possibly edit warring. I think the fact that I could be possibly blocked for reverting vandalism was ridiculous. I know some admins who are very dedicated but I completely agree with you. I don't intend to give up and hope to become an admin some day but all the policies of Wikipedia are mind-boggling. Thank you! Eteethan(talk) 21:20, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

I don't know what you are talking about but your edit of WestJet was vandalism. Eteethan(talk) 14:12, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi,

I don't get how my edit was not useful, I just undid vandalism that set the end date for the warriors current streak as January 2016 against the 76ers. This is an obvious joke on the fact that the sixers are the worst performing team in the NBA right now.

I literally just check undo last edit to get rid of the vandalism. If you think the vandalism was somewhat constructive, well go ahead and put it again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leonoel (talkcontribs) 04:41, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

@Leonoel: I can't seem to find the revert you are talking about. Please specify the article you are talking about. Also, please sign your posts. Eteethan(talk) 18:57, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
@Eteethan:In the page on longest streaks in the NBA (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Basketball_Association_longest_winning_streaks) I undid some vandalism that changed the ending of the Warrior's streak to January 2016. This was when theyw ere still undefetated. I undid it unsigned with a different IP, and you sent me a message that somewhat my edit was not constructive. When the only thing I did was undo vandalism. Please check the history of edits before being such an strict enforcer. It just makes you look bad User:Leonoel

Excuse me? Dont blame your due diligence on others. You must specify years in either Islamic calendar or Christian calendar. If it was not Hijri, change it to CE but do your homework before you use such tools and go on warning other editors.Markangle11 (talk) 17:56, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Michael Lynche "Death"

It looks as if the whole section on "Death" was correctly removed as it was his brother who recently passed. The article mentions this with citation (original citation on the death bit was correct but wrongly surmised as Michael) http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/08/entertainment/obit-marque-tate-lynche-mickey-mouse-club-feat/index.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.34.43.66 (talk) 17:01, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Whenever you mention a death you have to have a reliable source, and your change didn't. You have replied to me using a reliable source, and if you re-add this it would be accepted. Eteethan(talk) 17:53, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Constructive

My edits are completely constructive. I added other Works created by the artist and a list of 3 books she has written. You are very wrong that my adding this is " unconstructive". "Unconstructive" is also not a real word. So my edits can not possibly be so. My edits are constructive. My edits are not nonconstructive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pizzaandbeer (talkcontribs) 21:19, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Syro-Aramaic Edit

Hello Eteethan. My revision to the webpage on Luxenberg's book was reverted for not being constructive, and I am not sure why ... possibly the formatting was wrong (it was my first edit), which I was trying to fix with a new edit when it got reverted. The comment itself was a useful link to the most prominent and detailed scholarly review of the book, so I'm not sure why providing such a link wasn't constructive!

Regards -- Schope (talk) 00:32, 12 December 2015 (UTC) Schope

@Schope: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I reverted your edit because some of the text (The most detailed scholarly review of Luxenberg's book to date has been published by Daniel King, a Syriacist at the University of Cardiff. King endorses some of Luxenberg's emendations and readings, and cites other scholars who have done the same, but concludes that "Luxenberg’s meta theory of Qur’ānic origins is not proved by the evidence he sets forth in this book. That certain of the Qur’ān’s expressions and words (as well as broader ideas and themes) are of Christian origin is well founded, and should in general be sufficient to explain the data presented here without needing recourse to either of the two more radical theories he espouses, namely that the Qur’ān was in origin no more than a Christian lectionary, and that the language which it is written is an ‘Aramaic Arabic hybrid’."[1])you wrote showed up with a symbol between each word. On my computer this shows up as a white question mark in a black diamond. Regards, Ethan. Eteethan(talk) 00:36, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

The Syro-Aramaic Reading of the Koran

I'm brand new to editing Wikipedia pages and couldn't figure out how to add a section on the talk page in regards to my comment on the referenced page before the comment was deleted. Below is what was to be added to the talk page. Walk through it with me to see if I'm on the right track here.

This section has the following issues:

1. it is written by what could very easily be called Muslim apologists. It seems the majority of the site referenced is refuting any literary analysis to argue the Quran is holy. Credibility may be questionable. 2. The whole section is not written in a neutral tone 3. it may not be direct quotes from the website it references 4. the block quote has numerous punctuation and grammatical errors

Possible ways to correct are to: 1. Properly identify the bias of the authors and incorporate their agenda. 2. clean up the rather lengthy section of grammar and punctuation errors. 3. Ensure that what is written here are actual quotes and separate them if need be. Ptn007 (talk) 00:43, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

@Ptn007: The reason I reverted your edit is because you added the <nowiki> tag to an article which stops Wikipedia from recognizing certain codes. Double curly braces mean "template" and when you added that tag it broke the template. Eteethan(talk) 00:41, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
@Eteethan: The intent is to add POV-Section to that part of it. What is the format? Ptn007 (talk) 00:45, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ptn007: Add this:
{{Pov-source|Date=December 2015}}
Eteethan(talk) 00:53, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
@Eteethan: The following is linked: "Wikipedia does not have a template with this exact title." Do you have a suggestion? Ptn007 (talk) 01:07, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
@Ptn007: Whoops. Sorry. I have added the template at the section. Eteethan(talk) 02:04, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations

You got me banned through false accusations because you couldn't do your job properly. I hope you're proud of yourself. 85.210.182.11 (talk) 13:49, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

yo u deleted my stuff

Hey man you deleted my thread or post, why>? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frozenman28 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a little confused. Please Explain? Eteethan(talk) 01:55, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Your Revisions

You have made a change to Wikipedia that was true and you deleted it. The edit was based off of Justise Winslow stating on Twitter that Wikipedia did help him pass high school and college classes. You were wrong for deleting the aforementioned edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.79.96.141 (talk) 20:27, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

I am curious as to your reversions to Naval mine. The (reverted) article reads as though the British knew the mine was magnetic before they dismantled the Shoburyness mine (they didn't - although magnetic was considered a possibility, there were others such as acoustic).

The reverted article reads as though the personnel that dismantled the mine came from London (they didn't - they came from HMS Vernon. Although HMS Vernon (located at what is now Gunwharf keys in Portsmouth) was primarilly concerned with torpedoes, the Navy's mine department was located there.

The reverted article reads as though the magnetic mine's mechanism was able to detect rise and fall of magnetic field (it couldn't - it was a simple magnetised vane, operating like a compass needle, which closed a simple contact once the field strength exceeded the preset value).

The reverted article suggests that the copper shortage was the primary reason why small ships were not fitted with degaussing coils. Although it probably was a factor, the main reason was that small ships just did not have the electrical generating capacity to energise such a coil.

I would suggest that the reversions are not constructive. I was going to add some material on the double-L sweep, which is currently unaddressed apart from one illustration, but I shan't bother now. 86.145.215.191 (talk) 14:07, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Smiley Sorry! My bad. Self reverted. Eteethan(talk) 14:21, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
In that case: you are hereby forgiven. 86.145.215.191 (talk) 14:44, 15 December 2015 (UTC)
