Hi,

While I agree that EyPi RecordZ does not look notable and I have {{prod 2}}'ed the artical, I do think that as it has an article for the time being it can be listed in List of record labels: A–H and ask you to reconsider this edit until such time as the article is deleted. Codf1977 (talk) 12:31, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

OK, that's fair enough: I've reverted the edit. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 12:33, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Roadliner

Hello Empty Buffer. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Roadliner, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Does not rely on a page that does not exist. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 00:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

What should I do? Deletion

Hi Empty Buffer, I received a message after creating a article about a musician one "ReLiX The Underdog" stating that it seems like it was an autobiography. This is the 2nd time I have submitted an article about this young man and then being told that I am him and am "appearing to be writing about myself". This is totally untrue and I have spent a great amount of time creating and researching for this article. So please do not deleteit before atleast telling me what I need to do in order to keep him on here. I asked this question on another question page and one of the editors asked why I used his name on my account? I just joined in order to make contributions for him. Should I have chosen another name? I apologize for my ignorance, I am new to this. I don't see how this should make it appear as if I am him. Thank youJaviarramirez (talk) 00:26, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

All you have to do is google his name "Relix the Underdog" or "prod by relix" and you will see the countless artisits he has produced for. This is legit, I may just not have formatted it right? ThanksJaviarramirez (talk) 00:36, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Please have a read of WP:Autobiography: writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. If you're not Javiar Ramirez, then you shouldn't create an account in his name. Empty Buffer (talk) 16:20, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I am definetly not Javiar or Relix. I just thought maybe if I put my account in his name it would be easier for him or anyone else to find and edit my submission if necessary. I was totally unaware that it would be considered an autobiography. I would like to change my username as to not reflect on his credibility. I do apologize. What do I need to do in order to accomplish that? I read where it is possible to change your username, but didn't quite understand the process. Could you help if you have time. Thank you once again.Javiarramirez (talk) 21:16, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, you can change your account name, but since you've made very few edits it would be a lot easier if you simply created a new account: see Wikipedia:Changing username, and please let me know if you need any help with this. Empty Buffer (talk) 07:31, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Empty Buffer, as per Chapter 119 and Chapter 120 of the Florida Statutes, information published by a government entity in the state of Florida is subject to public records and can not be considered copyrighted...therefore I believe your labeling as such is incorrect. Frank0051 (talk) 18:31, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I could well be wrong: can you point me at the statutes online so I can check? I'll have a look myself now. Until we can prove that it's not copyrighted, the articles must remain tagged. It would be simpler to re-write the paragraph in your own words, however. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 18:34, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm chasing it up now using the links at Copyright status of work by the Florida government. Empty Buffer (talk) 18:35, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
It's a little complicated. There are some exclusions to the statutes, some of which plainly state their copyrighted status online. I'm not a lawyer (nor an amateur enthusiast on copyright law), so I'll refer this instead to Wikipedians who know this area better, at Wikipedia:Copyright_problems. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 18:41, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

---Having lived in Florida, it is generally accepted principal that under Statue 119.01(1) websites maintained by local governments are subject to the public records law and can be copied in any way that seen fit. As per the page you brought up, this is also made clear in Microdecisions, Inc. v. Skinner. Where do I go from here to deal with this issue? Frank0051 (talk) 18:44, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I can't disagree with your experience, but I can't verify it either. I've posted a request for clarification at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2010 July 4#Copyright investigations (manual article tagging). Empty Buffer (talk) 18:47, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Am I allowed to make a comment on that page to provide my thoughts on the matter? I can definitely understand - as you see it - better to be safe than sorry. Frank0051 (talk) 18:51, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, please do: I hope I'm proven wrong. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 18:51, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

River Valley High School (Caledonia, Ohio) page

I am a public affairs specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who handles environmental restoration projects, one of which is the project referenced on the River Valley High School (Caledonia, Ohio)Web page. A majority of the information on this page is inaccurate and I would like to correct this as soon as possible. However, the reference documents I need to cite in my edits are not available via web links, but rather, are hard-copied reports. How do I cite sources in a way that will allow my revisions to be accepted and notbe removed off this page? Miss JennD (talk) 15:21, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for your contributions. I'd be happy to help with this. Do you have access to a scanner, so you can upload the documents? Please also have a read of WP:Conflict of interest: it may be very difficult for you to objectively edit an article on something with which you're so closely connected. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 15:22, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I appreciate your concern, but as a public affairs specialist it is my professional duty to present strictly the facts. So objectivity will not be in question, since I will be updating the page with only data exerpted from the official reports. These edits will only be beneficial to me in the sense that the right information will be published, as opposed to the wrong ones that are up there now. And yes, I do have access to a scanner. Where would I upload these documents to? Thank you for all of your assistance, it is greatly appreciated! Miss JennD (talk) 16:51, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

You can upload the files using the "Upload file" link in the toolbox over at the left-hand side of this page, which links to Wikipedia:Upload. I'd also recommend that before uploading you have a read of Wikipedia:Image use policy, where issues like copyright are explained in more detail. If they're US gov't docs, then they are probably Wikipedia:Copyright FAQ#Public domain, so copyright shouldn't be a problem here. Please let me know if there's any more I can do to help with this. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 17:44, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Miss JennD (talk) 18:00, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I made an error in the upload process which is why I requested for its deletion. But thank you for your input, it's greatly appreciated. Miss JennD (talk) 13:53, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

False positive report

The other day you submitted a false positive report because you found yourself unable to edit someone's talk page. If you have not already seen, it was due to an accident in the code of a particular edit filter which was quickly fixed by the MediaWiki software itself. The code has been reverted to the last good version and this should not happen again. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, however; if people hadn't reported it we wouldn't have known there was a problem. I have removed the false positive reports as I felt it was easier to just go to the people who submitted them directly. Soap 23:40, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: List of Adam Young projects

Hello Empty Buffer. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of List of Adam Young projects, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Adam Young is notable and as such his projects are potentially important/significant. Thank you. SoWhy 11:18, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Well Adam Young had been redirected to Owl City in May, so if he's notable then this list belongs at Adam Young. I've reverted the redirect and merged the content there.
Adam Young is essentially Owl City, he is their only member, so the band's notability is pretty much the same as his own. Regards SoWhy 12:53, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the Page PREETI Chandrakant

Dear Empty Buffer,

After weeks of hard work, I created a page yesterday about PREETI Chandrakant. It falls under the category of BLP and this is a work in progress. You must be aware that I am gradually adding citations as these are visible in the history.

I do not understand however that you have removed the material, before i could put in all the citations. If you remove whole paragraphs including ones which have citations, it becomes impossible to add in citations.

Please guide me how to go about it. I would request that i be given time to rewrite this page complete the citations and then inform you. After that you can propose edits at the talk page and i will regularly update till the article meets wikipedia standards.

Neocreator (talk) 21:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and thanks for your contribution. What I removed was not simply unreferenced material, but material that can't possibly be referenced correctly, e.g. "...her work was inspired by so-and-so...". It's OK to write that "in an interview in magazine X, she said that her work was inspired by so-and-so", with a reference to that magazine. Everything in Wikipedia articles has to be WP:Verifiable from WP:Reliable sources. I also deleted some material on her mother, with a Facebook reference, and on her father, claiming he was a "descendant of the warrior princes of Northern Kerala" (unreferenced). What specifically did you want me to put back? Empty Buffer (talk) 14:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Empty Buffer, Nice that you replied so quickly.
The mother is a very famous indian writer, there are many other references which I shall provide.
I have been adding citations today. The whole thing takes some real time.
Also I'm not a professional hired for this job. Please give me some time to add in all the citations and references. Then I will make the changes you suggest on the talk page. Almost all the material has citations and / or references. I'm excited about this page.
Thanks Neocreator (talk) 21:03, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Neocreator
I'm glad to hear it! Regarding changes to the article, if you don't want a new article to be collaboratively edited like all Wikipedia articles, then you need to take it out of main article space until you feel it's ready. Shall I move it to a WP:User subpage until then?
Regarding her mother, if she's notable enough, then the best place for info about her is on her own article, which your first one can then link to. It's best not to turn the article into one about more than one person. Thanks, Empty Buffer (talk) 07:11, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Do you have anything for the talk page? Drmies (talk) 16:45, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Category Hamlets in Worcestershire

Hi. I'm just wondering what your criteria are for differentiating between a village and a hamlet, and why this should be particularly applied to the county of Worcestershire. If you feel it's helping the WP:WORCS project, do come along an join the project, and then we can probably find out more.--Kudpung (talk) 08:08, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

The criteria for hamlet vs. village can be a bit of a gray area: see Hamlet (place)#United Kingdom and Category:Hamlets in England. My only criterion was whether the article itself already called the place a hamlet. Empty Buffer (talk) 08:12, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Fair enoough - though there probably aren't many to justify a category. However, Worcs is a very rural county, and probably 80% of the villages in Worcs that in the Villages in Worcestshire cat are probaly not much more than hamlets! --Kudpung (talk) 06:09, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Twinkle (TW)

When you revert vandalism with Twinkle, does it automatically warn the user/IP-address or do you have to go to the user/IP-address's talk page manually and warn them? I have to do it manually. Should Twinkle be it that way? Thanks, /HeyMid (contributions) 08:39, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Twinkle automatically opens the editor's talk page in a separate window (or tab, if your browser is set to override that), giving you the option of placing a user warning. It even fills in the article field in the dialog for you. Very handy. Empty Buffer (talk) 08:42, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't for me?! I use Firefox, what about you? /HeyMid (contributions) 08:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, Firefox. What doesn't it do: open the editor's talk page, or fill in the field? Empty Buffer (talk) 08:54, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
That sucks! It never warns me about pop-up windows! So I added an exception to secure wikimedia and now the talk page is automatically opened in a new window. It works now, but it never warned me about blocked pop-up window. I think I should notify this on the Twinkle talk page. Thanks, /HeyMid (contributions) 09:01, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
I have to manually fill in the warning message to the user/IP-address or by using the TW drop-down menu. Thanks anyways, /HeyMid (contributions) 09:03, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Dating Abuse

Thanks for keeping an eye on the Dating Abuse page. I myself hadn't noticed what has been done to it over the last few months. For some history, there was once a Teen Dating Violence page which looked exactly like the former Dating Abuse page, which looked exactly like a pamphlet or brochure produced by some organizations working on Teen Dating Violence. Lots of bullet points, lots of lists, etc. All the users creating this page did not have accounts and it seemed pretty clear they were pushing an agenda. As you can see from the old talk page there was clear agreement to simply merge that page into the Dating Abuse article. Unfortunately it looks like those same editors have simply taken over the Dating Abuse article and turned it into the same poor quality Teen Dating Violence article. While Dating Abuse can occur to individuals in relationships of all ages they removed all references to dating abuse overall and focused it entirely on teens, again just copy & pasting from some organizational brochure or pamphlet. I was shocked to see what became of this page and apologize for not keeping an eye on it. What can be done to ensure these people don't hijack it again? KPalicz (talk) 15:13, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your work on this. If the article continues to get a lot of problem edits from unregistered users, you can always request semi-protection at WP:RPP. Empty Buffer (talk) 15:17, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Dating Abuse (Teen Dating Violence)

I agree that the article is in serious need of retrofitting but in the interim do not want to lose those nuggets of valuable information. I've not found the WP:NOTHOWTO article and would be interested in identifying the proper method to provide the necessary information while following proper procedures. Thanks. 24.126.193.118 (talk) 15:15, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I was referring to WP:NOTHOWTO. Note that some very valuable information isn't always appropriate for an encyclopedia, for example timetables, detailed statistics, operating instructions, medical documentation, etc. There are lots of other places on the internet to find information like that, though it's sometimes a good idea to link them from a Wikipedia article. I have made several edits adding references, etc. I have requested that specific suggestions be made and have not received any comments. I am not sure how to resolve this and remove the notice by consensus if no one participates. I have removed the notice and then discovered your warnings not to do so. How do you resolve an issue when no one comments or provides constructive input to help guide a newcommer? Thank you! One other point, what makes this individual unique is his lack of desitre to promote himself and be seen. Notarity is often achieved through self-promotion. Hello, and thanks for your contributions. I see that the article has been improved with some references from WP:Reliable sources: that's good, perhaps more can be found online, and the consensus in the deletion discussion will be to keep the article. I'll try and work on it a bit when I get some time. However, if Mr. McConnell's goal does not wish to promote himself or be seen, then it might be best to respect his wishes, and not to write about him any further on Wikipedia. Empty Buffer (talk) 18:19, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Your point is well taken, but not wanting to be written and accepting to be written aboutare two different things. I was only adding a film in which people had complained about many times. once again im sorry & would like it if you could make your own version of what i wrote but more constructive i guess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.167.144.231 (talk) 22:44, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

BLP PROD on Marius Vladu

Hi. Why did you remove the BLP PROD on Marius Vladu in this edit? Thanks!   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:59, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi - glad you asked. Check the edit history: it's got several WP:SPAs playing happy horse-hockey. I started out BLP prodding it, one SPA added a ref, I removed the BLP prod and tagged for refimprove, they removed the refimprove AND the ref (!), you BLP prodded it again, I reverted back to the ref'd version and removed your new BLP prod... well, you get the idea.  :-) There's a new SPA, busily removing the reflist, the stub, the AFD template, etc. The creator will piss around for a week doing ANYTHING but improve it, and when it does get AFD'd it'll need to be salted to stop them doing the ol' rinse n' repeat. Banned users

Don't step on people when they are removing commentary from banned users, please. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)

You must not refactor other editors' comments, even with the best of intentions. If you keep that up you're going to get banned by an admin. Empty Buffer (talk) 19:28, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
No, I won't. Banned users are banned. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
If he's been banned, then report him as a sockpuppet. Don't compound the problem, please. Empty Buffer (talk) 19:31, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Knock it off, it's been confirmed dozens of times, including by checkusers. OK? I am not a new user. I've been around, I know how this works. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
You are deleting two editors' comments on the AFD. Please stop. File an IP sockpuppet report if you are sure it's the same editor. Empty Buffer (talk) 19:35, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
I am deleting one editors comment, which is of no consequence since it is a reply to the banned user. Not every SP needs to go through SPI. Process for the sake of process in this case does immense harm to the project because it involves hunting down hundreds of edits long after the fact. I have explained what I am doing. I have been doing this for years now. BTW, since he is using a caching proxy with 66,000 IP addresses, should I file 66,000 SPI reports? This has already been confirmed by SPI, a few weeks ago, and this is just the continuation of that. Trust your fellow users. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
Have you asked Hairhorn if it's OK for you to delete their reply? Empty Buffer (talk) 19:43, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
[1] Sometimes toes get stepped on. When a banned user starts a discussion, it is usually better to just remove the entire discussion, even if there are minor replies. If there are lengthy replies that might affect the outcome of the project strikes or other methods can be used. SchmuckyTheCat (talk)
OK, then I'll let Hairhorn know that you're deleting his reply. Empty Buffer (talk) 19:57, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
