Concerning the copyright of Beirut Coat of Arms
Well I don't think there's a copyright problem, it is taken from the official website of the beirut municipality, which in turn is a public sector. The coat of arms is not a private property but is in public domain, such as the flag. But I suppose adding the source of the coat of arms [the website] won't do any harm. I added it to my best assumption. Regards. Ad vitam aeternam (talk) 02:38, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, it looks like it got deleted, which is sad, because previously the flag of beirut was deleted as well. I don't have a very strong expertise to draw them myself. But I do still believe that they are in fair use, since it's a journalistic article. I mean, if a newspaper put the image of the coat of arms taken from the municipality in an article, the municipality can't claim it removed, because it is a public property. I don't know more of the procedures in wikipedia, that is why I put my trust in you. If you need the images, I still have them, please do contact me. Ad vitam aeternam (talk) 02:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
My reply
Hi Elie,
You should feel free to do pretty much whatever you want to do around here. I haven't been active in quite a long time (largely because I'm swamped with college work). I'd be glad to hear anything you want to run by me.
Cheers. —LestatdeLioncourt 18:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Wikifying
I'm watching around 70 articles on Lebanon (mainly North Lebanon) and some bios. When time allows it, I wikify here and there, add some facts and references, create a stub and clean vandalism. If you need any help, do not hesitate to contact me. youcroft (talk) 07:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Top importance articles
You need to review the WikiProject's policies. From the Wikiproject Lebanon Assessment page, a "top" importance article is one for which: "A reader who is not involved in Lebanon will have high familiarity with the subject matter and should be able to relate to the topic easily."
Will a reader "not involved in Lebanon" have a high familiarity with the subject of the "National Museum of Beirut"? No. Will they have any idea what "Koullouna Lilouataan Lil Oula Lil Alam" even means? No. Hence, these are not proper top importance articles. ← George [talk] 09:00, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- I've only changed the museum article for now. I'll give the others a pass for now, though I'm not sure why the national anthem has that article title anyways... ← George [talk] 09:29, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Beirut GA nomination suggestions
Greetings Elie! I'm excited to see Beirut on the GA nominations list and thought I might make some suggestions regarding it broadness. The article is missing the much needed sections of "Demographics" (especially crucial for a religiously mixed city and it should also mention gender ratios, age distribution and its population in other years from the 1400s to 2000), the "Government" (should include info on its municipal council, a list of its mayors throughout its history, maybe some laws like a Christian, Sunni or Shia must be mayor, when municipal elections are held) and finally an economy section (shopping, industry, tourism, etc.) I hope you could find sources for this information, since without these extremely important sections I don't see how the article could pass. BTW you could use Bethlehem or Haifa as guides for a GA on a city. Cheers and good luck! --Al Ameer son (talk) 02:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Beirut National Museum
Hi, I began copy-editing and cleaning up the refs for the article. I'll come back and do some more later. Please, feel free to check my edits in case I changed the meaning inadvertently! Lazulilasher (talk) 20:34, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

deleted page
Hello, I've just saw the deleting nomination of my page (talal el khoury). I checked the discussions and saw that the reason is the absence of resources. kindly reconsider deleting the page especially that it would be a good role model for young professionals to post their professional activities, the way I intend to enrich my page in the near future with architecture and urban planning information. Should you require any other information regarding my professional experience, i'll be glad to share it. 19 April 2008

You have some experience in editing, 2000, so I don't think you will need the above resources as much. But I included it anyway. It has very basic intructions on what you should do, and what you should'nt do. If you want you can start developing your userpage. I think the most important thing is to start using the edit summary function, it is very important. I don’t do as much article building as you do, but I would suggest taking the main positives of other FA’s and try putting it into yours, and when you gain enough experience. We'll do some anti-vandal work if you want. :) Have fun and if you need any help feel free to message me on my talk page! Fattyjwoods (Push my button) 04:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we must insist that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on Russell Peters. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Please do not tag good faith edits as vandalism. Thank you. (EhJJ)TALK 16:23, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

Samir Geagea
There is another editor who is new and has created an account only to edit samir geagea's page. I am not aware of these criminal proceedings and I am pretty sure what was posted on there is propaganda against Samir Geagea. I undid his edit since it was not properly sourced. Best regards to you.
- What do you need help on reverting? I didn't log in for a couple days. There is a case against Samir Geagea pending in court but I do not have much information about it. I am pretty sure that it is not credible.
Hi. Please don't add 10+ tags to an article. Tags are meant to be reminders that an article needs help. Some tags are very broad (cleanup, totally-disputed) and make it unnecessary to add more specific tags. I saw you created the AfD and were obviously annoyed by the article but doing that won't help. I also suggest you go to the AfD page and more clearly state your problems with the article. gren グレン 08:35, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
I removed the POV pushing paragraph about illegality of the government without sources. Can you please (with reliable sources) speak to the accuracy of the table, its notes, and the short opening paragraph? gren グレン 08:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi
Hi Elie plus, i'm sorry if i didn't reply before, i'm actually new to this. Regarding the rules, i've been trying to see the do's and the not to do's in Wikipedia and i thank you for your helpful guidance. As for the Tourism in Lebanon article, i'll do my best to expand it and provide proper references "respectable third party sites or works" as you said :) Thanks Alain08 (talk) 20:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Re: Phoenicia article
Thanks, i appreciate your good words. I'm not solely into Greek culture, so the Phoenicia article will definitely be on my A list of edits. That was the case with the Lebanese Independence Day article, it was made of only 3 sentences and i rapidly went through its expansion. You name the article and i'll fix :) BTW thanks for the link its cool, a few minutes ago i found a website called Wikirage its also helpful in showing which articles are the most edited http://www.wikirage.com/wiki/Tourism_in_Lebanon/. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alain08 (talk • contribs) 17:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Suggestion
I was looking at the Phoenicia article and i think that some of the info's are solely related to the Phoenician people and not to Phoenicia as a region (e.g. Ionia and Ionians). So i believe that it's better if we make a separate article called Phoenician that is dedicated for this particular people. As for Phoenicia i think that the website http://phoenicia[dot]org/ could be helpful for some references.
BTW i saw the History of Lebanon series and it also needs a lot of work from Persian to Ottoman rule and the topical series.Alain08 (talk) 18:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Jeita Grotto images
I appreciate that the fair use rationale is valid, as we cannot expect people to risk getting kicked out of the cave/prosecution to get some free images, but I do not feel you need three non-free images. One would be enough. J Milburn (talk) 10:37, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, yes, that makes sense, providing that both the caves are discussed in the article (which I can see they are). In case you don't know, once you've removed the image you don't need, you can just tag it with {{db-author}} and it will be deleted shortly. J Milburn (talk) 10:45, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Deleted it. Thanks for understanding. J Milburn (talk) 10:53, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Great work
Thanks Elie and great work on the Jeita grotto article its very good. Some parts in the Tourism in Lebanon article need help especially the religious and rural tourism which have scarce info. I hope if you could back up these parts with some sources cause i haven't found informative ideas.Alain08 (talk) 08:33, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Museum of Beirut
The description includes "architecture" and "collections". That paragraphs are poor of information, with a vague description of what are the features in the museum, I think it's insufficient for a featured article, sorry. Complimenti però per l'italiano ^_^--Mojska 08:25, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

That's fantastic, thanks for your priceless effort Elie and all those who contributed to the Jeita Grotto article. Having it on the did you know section is really a great accomplishment.Alain08 (talk) 10:54, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Tourism in Lebanon
Shouldn't we delete the rural tourism part in the article and replace it with let's say Lebanese nightlife? I think it's better and have more issues to talk about. Rural tourism is a very detailed part that has little info. IMHO
BTW isn't this pic better if it was posted on top of the History of Lebanon template? At least this is a Phoenician national symbol instead of putting roman columns.Alain08 (talk) 16:27, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Invention of Phoenician alphabet
While I was working on Timeline of Lebanese history, I was confused regarding the time in which the Phoenician alphabet was invented. Actually I found 3 versions to this:
- 1500s BC — The Phoenicians develop an alphabet — see Timeline of communication technology.
- 1000s BC — Phoenician alphabet invented.
- In article Cadmus: "Cadmus was credited by the Hellenes with the introduction of the Phoenician alphabet, phoinikeia grammata. Herodotus who gives this account estimates that Cadmus lived sixteen hundred years before his time, or around 2000 BC."
I hope if you could help me on this cause I haven't been able to take a a final decision in regards to the period. Thanks. Alain08 (talk) 09:38, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
License tagging for Image:Phoenician Funerary mask.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Phoenician Funerary mask.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box).
