Milhist Coordinator elections
I wish to thank you for your gracious support during my bid for a position as Coordinator of the Military history Wikiproject in the recent March 2009 elections. I was initially apprehensive to stand for election as I was unsure on how well I would be received, but I am pleasantly surprised and delighted to have been deemed worthy to represent my peers within the project. I assure and promise you, I will strive to do my upmost to justify your trust in myself with this esteemed position. Thank you, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 01:42, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

For the additions to War Books.
It's getting harder to find things that aren't in it already.

You appear to have a general 19th century interest? Where did you find your little trove of Apache material?

Cheers, Varlaam (talk) 02:57, 10 September 2009 (UTC) (in Toronto)[reply]

Greetings! Yes, my primary focus is the history of the US Army between the Civil War and World War One. Recently, I've been reviewing the various articles on films depicting the US Army during this period and updating List of films based on war books — 1775–1898 with info from those articles, so my trove is Wikipedia! I'm working on a article on Only the Valiant, the 1951 film, (I'm really slow!), and my tidbit on that book came from my research on that movie. Anyway, thanks for noticing, and I hope to run into you again!! --Ejosse1 (talk) 12:46, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You have to be careful what you say in WP because of the admins poking their noses around everywhere. With War Books, I think I am allowed to say I am The Editor. But people have a snit fit if you use the 'A' word (a*thor), even when 99% comes from a single source. I took on War Books as a little side project back in March. At that time, it was 30K and fit on a single page. Now the whole shebang is between 500 and 600K. And, since March, you are my biggest collaborator. I frankly find that incredible, but there you have it. There have been 2 titles from the young man in Estonia, and two from the fellow in Australia. And then there's you and me. It's nuts. How can sticking movie titles onto a list be something so esoteric that only the select few are capable of accomplishing it?
I really don't get it. I figgered once I started beefing up the list, scads of others would start pitching in too. Nope. No, sir.

Jules Garesche Ord

[edit]

Hello,

I added a Early life section in the article of Jules Garesche Ord. "B2=y?" Any other suggestions or thoughts? Jrcrin001 (talk) 04:18, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. Some work done on JGO and I believe a B rating is now warranted. Would you be so kind to re-review. As always, any help appreciated. Jrcrin001 (talk) 02:38, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! I think B2 is now able to be switched to "y", but I'm afraid I would have to change B1 and B4 to "n" (D'oh!) The main problems are in the Early life section. The only cite given is a link to a census record, but I don't think you can find information about his father's career or his mother's doting or his struggles in school on the census record. So, cites for where this kind of information came from need to be added. Also, I'm not a grammarian, nor do I play one on TV, but the tense seems to bounce back and forth in this section from the past tense to the present (?). Example "...the family was in San Antonio..." vs. "Garesche begins to be known..." and "...Gary receives and turns down an appointment..." and so on. I would make it all consistently past tense. I hope I'm making sense. One last thing, and this is just a personal preference thing of mine, but I would take out the Conclusion section entirely, or at least boil it down to the sentences about the medals being turned down and being buried in Arlington. Anyway, I hope you don't think I'm being too finicky! Overall, I think it is a very interesting article on a topic not well covered in Wikipedia. Keep it up!! Ejosse1 (talk) 14:15, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
YIPES! I dropped a critical reference! I put it in and will work on tense changes. You are not "too finicky" - I enjoy constructive critism becaue it is positive toward the goal. Thank you! Jrcrin001 (talk) 03:46, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I worked on tense and some other issues. How does it look now? Jrcrin001 (talk) 16:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Much better! I went ahead and advanced it to B... Ejosse1 (talk) 15:39, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I may never take it to a higher rating, but the foundation is now set better than it was before thanks to you! Jrcrin001 (talk) 19:36, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

35th Infantry Regiment (United States)

[edit]

Hello again! I did some clean up on the article on 35th Infantry Regiment (United States) and moved it past a stub. Would you be (again!) so kind to take a look at it for a new rating? Thank you again! Jrcrin001 (talk) 06:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Good work! I upgraded the status to Start with B2=no. While the history of the regiment is fairly complete (and thanks for that!!), it is lacking in such things as current mission, lineage, heraldry, composition, and such as that. Actually, unless something has gotten by me, none of the US regimental articles are up to B-class standard as far as I am concerned. (29th Infantry Regiment (United States) is rated a B, but I wouldn't have done it.) For an example of a B-class or better unit article, see 172nd Infantry Brigade (United States) or ANY of the unit articles by Ed! (talk contribs), which are all usually outstanding. Once again, keep it up! --Ejosse1 (talk) 15:38, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I did some more work based on your suggestions. B2=yes? Jrcrin001 (talk) 03:58, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This must be in error (or perhaps I didn't do it right) as the description clearly says it is from the frontpiece of Spalding's Official Foot Ball Guide 1915 (which I guess I should have said was published in 1915, but I assumed it was kind of obvious). 10th Cavalry Regiment (United States)

[edit]

Hello again,

When you get a chance, would you be so kind to re-rate 10th Cavalry Regiment (United States)? I think it is ready for a B rating. As always your comments and suggestions are very welcome. Jrcrin001 (talk) 23:20, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Wow - have you been busy!! I only have a few of my usual nitpicks. I would like to see cites for the battle in Nogales in the World War I section and for the breakup of the unit in the World War II section. I would also like to see cites for each item under the Media and Fiction section. Alternatively, you might want to just delete that whole section, as there are some editors that don't care to see such "Trivia" sections (I'm not one of them, but hey, whatever). Also, the items under the See also section should be more properly moved to the External links, as See also is really more to direct readers to other Wikipedia articles that would be of interest. For instance, under See also you might want to add links to Buffalo soldiers and/or the 9th Cavalry. Finally, under the Notables section, I would remove mention of the MoH recipients and anybody else mentioned earlier in the article - it just seems repetitious. So, are you planning to take this article past 'B'? I think it could be a candidate! Keep it up!! Ejosse1 (talk) 15:16, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did some follow up cleaning as suggested with a minor modification on notable members. I am not sure if it will fly the way I did it, but we will see. I left the M&F section but cited pending review. I also redid the lede a bit and added & adjusted a picture or two. I have some items coming up that will take some time away from Wikipedia. Check back with me next month about pushing the article to GA.
I have some minor problems with DAB and LINKS for the article. Someone better than I needs to find out the reason.
Now you can say there are 2 Regimental B class articles that you have approved. (After you re-rate the 10th Cav Reg!) Again, I do appreciate what you do! Jrcrin001 (talk) 20:29, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you had done a lot of work too and possibly even created this article. I recently did a bunch of work to it and submitted it for GA so since you also did a lot of work on it I wanted to let you know. --Kumioko (talk) 20:58, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, great! Good job of shining it up, especially the intro section. I am trying to ever-so-slowly add bios of various notables from the 23rd Infantry, and Edwards was one of my first. I always thought I should have included more in the World War I section, since that is what he was most notable for, but I never was quite up to the task. Thanks for taking it the next mile!! --Ejosse1 (talk) 00:25, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edward A. Murphy, Jr.

[edit]

I noticed that the article on Edward A. Murphy, Jr. of "Murphy's Law" fame is missing an image of him. He graduated from West Point in 1940 and served in the Army during WWII and was involved in R&D after that. You've done a fantastic job of getting images of military officers for many articles so I was wondering if you could get one of this officer.-Schnurrbart (talk) 20:37, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Louis H. Carpenter article update

[edit]

I finally got some information I was waiting for and I added it to Louis H. Carpenter. This confirmed and updated dates for ranks, assignments, and positions. I also finally confirmed his service with the 5th United States Colored Cavalry Regiment. I would appreciate if you took a look at it. With another review, do you think this will finally get to A/FA status?

Please let me know. Jrcrin001 (talk) 08:47, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, A new article I reviewed Troop C, 1-153 Cavalry was just started. The article title needs work as does the lead. This article is on a Flordia National Guard unit that has been around since the 1860s and has evolved into a specialized troop. It has some notable honors and is an active duty unit. It you have a chance, please take a look at it and make suggestions? Thanks! Jrcrin001 (talk) 01:40, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
