Curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Qualification moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Qualification, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). - Dear Discospinster, you claim this reference https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/media.worldcurling.org/media.worldcurling.org/wcf_worldcurling/2019/09/17100941/2019-The-Rules-of-Curling-_Changelog.pdf has nothing to do with the championships, but if you look on page 55 and 56 it outlines how the teams qualify for the World's Men's and Women's Curling Championships. I appreciate your due diligence as a great wikipedia editor, but I think the two pages I had for the 2020 World Men's Curling Championship and 2020 World Women's Curling Championship should be reverted back to full page status. Edwyth (talk) 05:04, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- The document gives general rules of eligibility, it does not support the list of qualifying countries that was in the section. There needs to be more references to show that these teams qualified. ... discospinster talk 13:48, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- I am a little confused. The teams that have qualified are based on their rank at the appropriate world events. Such as the European Curling Championship. If the Top 7 teams from that championship qualify for the World Men's Curling Championship and such teams are proven to have come in the top 7, doesn't that mean they have qualified based on the rules in the document? Edwyth (talk) 18:33, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- It absolutely supports the list of qualified countries as you indicate Edwyth, more sources would be good, but moving this to draft space was silly. Tomorrow I will add several sources and put it back into mainspace. WP:BEFORE was not done here and it is not up to user discospinster whether it should be a draft or not.18abruce (talk) 22:30, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
- None of the qualifying countries were named in the document, it was a general description of qualifying rules. If an article does not have supporting citations it may be moved to draft, no discussion needed. You are welcome to add sources before it's moved to mainspace. ... discospinster talk 01:41, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
- From the individual who did not understand the material in the first place, LOL. An Olympic sport that is in the qualification process should be improved, not hidden. 'No discussion needed' is a lousy way to work in a community setting, particularly with a newer user who should be encouraged. I am welcome to move it back into mainspace is what you meant to say I am sure. Once again none of this is up to you.18abruce (talk) 19:20, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Took me a while before I had the time to pay attention to the curling articles, keep editing and trying please. You have as much right to determine what articles are in mainspace as anyone else, do not let 'lawyer' talk get you down or discourage you.18abruce (talk) 19:24, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
- No worries, thank you for taking the time promoting my pages back to mainspace. I was considering resubmitting it for approval, but this was much faster. It seemed silly for them to be moved to draft space when the event is so close and teams have already qualified for it. Happy editing! Edwyth (talk) 20:03, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Duolingo. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively, you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Please don't go around reverting without even bothering to explain what you are doing--especially when it concerns unencyclopedic and improperly verified marketing content. Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 20:37, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Duolingo. Sorry, but why you came to Wikipedia is irrelevant. The marketing information you keep reinserting is not of encyclopedic value. There is a link to the company website: that should suffice. Drmies (talk) 20:40, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
By the way, Pimsleur Language Programs had already been tagged for looking like an advertisement. It looks less so now. Drmies (talk) 20:41, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Drmies I submitted a query on the page's Talk tab. I don't believe I was vandalizing, that seems a stretch, but I will refrain. Edwyth (talk) 20:43, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
- There is no "final warning" template for disruptive editing, which includes the things that you were doing, so I picked that one. Drmies (talk) 00:27, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

Is it possible for you to update the results table for the article? It has barely been touched since the move to Paramount+, and it needs to be cleaned up (new contestants, eliminations being synced to the week it happened, etc.) The only thing I suggest keeping is the couple names still in play that are listed under the weeks. BrickMaster02 (talk) 20:39, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for thinking of me, but dating shows sadly aren't my thing and I wouldn't want to watch it to understand the elimination structure. I am sure there is someone out there that is excited by these dating shows, for me I don't understand why they are so popular. Edwyth (talk) 21:15, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

So, someone keeps removing the genders from the elimination chart claiming that "it's neutralizing" or something like that. And he demands that it should be removed from EVERY Idol article. Can you please discuss this, because you're more experienced with stuff like this? BrickMaster02 (talk) 01:44, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Edwyth, nice to meet you. BrickMaster, unfortunately, doesn't seem to fully understand what is going on, but it's quite simple. Whether someone is male or female is irrelevant to note in those articles, and it enforces a gender binary that belongs to a different era. In addition, I'm sure you agree that using blue or pink to denote biological sex or even gender is from the time of our grandmothers, not ours, and that it has no place in an encyclopedic article. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 01:51, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Drmies That makes sense to me, I think this whole male/female thing was a holdover from American Idol 4-14 where it VERY much mattered what gender the contestants were because their Semi-Finals were divided that way (in the case of specifically Season 8 the highest voted male and female of each group in the semi-final round would make the top 13 automatically), so I think it is important that the gender of Season 4-14 be retained as it had very real implication on the results, but starting with Season 15 the gender of the contestant no longer played a factor in anything, so I am okay with removing it thereafter. How would you suggest denoting the gender of the contestants for season 4-14? Pink and Blue may be boring and outdated, but useful. Edwyth (talk) 09:19, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hey Edwyth, thanks for the note. Yes, I remember that vaguely, but there has to be a better way than that color coding; "M/F" is already better. Anyway, that's not just up to me. Listen, would you mind posting this comment, maybe with some tweaks (to take me out of it), at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Television#American_Idol_and_sex/gender? I posted there, to generate some wider interest, and I have no doubt there's editors there who would benefit from what you have to say, and that the community will be able to come up with a solution. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 14:07, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
