ACR tweak

Hey, I noticed that when closing an ACR, the software fills in your standard signature. So I fixed it! Now, you will notice a "|username=" parameter right under the "|approved=" parameter. All you have to do is fill in your username, and the system will link it and add the time stamp. For example, you would write |username=TBrandley . Ignore all the instructions I just gave you! I figured out an easier way to do it. I used a revision user template, so just proceed as you normally would – the "username" parameter is no longer needed or present. However, to make it easier, now instead of writing "yes" or "no" after the "approved" parameter, you just have to write "y" for yes or "n" for no. SPI mention

Hey Tate, I meant to tell you this earlier. Why did you write "Just noting that the above IP have been reported as a sock puppet" on the talk page for OUAT season 2? WP:SPI is very clear that sometimes it's best not to tell the user that there's a case on them. I purposely chose not to tell the user, so as not to create unnecessary drama on the talk page. The user's sockpuppet flipped out after you said that, though later retracted it. In the future, please do not inform a suspected user before clearing it with the person who filed the SPI. More specifically, I had hoped to hear your reasoning on why the UFC 156 AfD (which I was involved with) met the requirements for WP:SK. I will certainly admit that Mtking seems to be on some sort of crusade against UFC fights, but I have to agree with him on the fact that upcoming fights never adequately meet the general notability guideline. The !votes were piling up for keep, but the only speedy keep was proposed by a sockpuppet and there had not been enough discussion to create anything I would describe as consensus. Relatively new? It had never been previously relisted. Merge would have been an acceptable close, but I see no problem with relisting and some benefits. There was one important question left unanswered "What is the definition of "minor" state highway being used here?" which would have helped in finding an appropriate close. Interestingly, nobody had yet brought up Wikipedia:Notability (highways)#United States except for the proposer who mentioned Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Notability. Considering this and the above, I might suggest staying away from NACs of AFDs. Note that this is a general suggestion I give to all non-admins (and abide by myself). There are plenty of administrators active at AfD so non-admin closures are not necessary and sometimes are not welcome. You will gain better experience by participating in AfDs and making arguments. If you would like to get a hand at evaluating consensus, I suggest you look at some requested moves. Feel free to ask me if you are curious about a close. World's busiest airport

I've reverted your change to Airport (TV series) for a couple of reasons: first, because Heathrow is presented as the world's busiest airport in the show, which ran from 1999 - 2006. Using current passenger traffic data to change the airport's status as of production is inaccurate. A change like that should be a) based on data from the time of production and; b) discussed before the change is made. Which leads me to the second reason I reverted: how "world's busiest" is measured. There are at least three metrics for business of an airport: numbers of passengers, numbers of flights and density of flights (i.e. time between flights). Depending on the metric used, either Atlanta, Chicago or Heathrow is the busiest. However, the industry generally regards Heathrow to be the busiest airport in the world and Chicago the busiest in the U.S.; Atlanta is only busiest when passenger numbers are considered. --Drmargi (talk) 18:27, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

What Winnipeg? I haven't a clue I have never been there. They moved over there when I was a lot younger and, to my shame, I have never visited. In terms of Essex, Basildon is a reletively modern. Apart from a few Chavs, it's a nice place to live and has everything you need. It's also only about 30 miles from London. It isn't very nice, Manitoba, in my opinion. It snows at the time, and is very dry. It is horrible, I have went there before, actually twice. Agreed, I personally, again, hate it, seriously! Probably, yes, and OK, thanks about reporting back. I work (well, go to school) in Osoyoos. In fact, the nearest city to me is an hour away, it is Penticton, and Omak is also pretty close, and by the way, I live right by the United States-Canada international border, which I just went to over this weekend (Spokane). Regarding England, your right, that is England! And, of course, I have visted London, after all my mother was born there, in South London. It is very nice there, in my opinion. Lots of things there are very different from here in Canada, and the US right near me. In a nutshell, yes. What do you enjoy about London (don't bother if it is too personal)? I suppose standing right on the boarder one can't say "I can't be in two places at once!" -- Yes you can - Left foot in Canada, right foot in America . I love London for its architecture mainly. I spend quite a lot of time in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which is locally known as Blue plaque country. The buildings are beautiful. You can walk past a building which used to be occupied by Georg Friedrich Händel one minute and further on come across a property once owned by Alfred Hitchcock the next. We have the obvious examples of stunning architecture including Westminster Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey; even more modern buildings such as 30 St Mary Axe are stunning to look at. However, not all of London is nice. East London is particularly bad and suffers a lot from gang's who think they are a force to be reckoned with. Sadly they are not, my gang are slightly bigger. West London and Central London are very nice and particularly well to do. Average house prices in Mayfair and Belgravia are often in excess of £50,000,000 ($79,497,377). Thanks for the lengthy reply and sorry for my belated reply! Yeah, it is cool and I myself enjoy London for that same reason. But I do really enjoy the many choices, unlike Canada, the United States is okay, but not as good. England has choices like "Cola-Cola Lime", many good "Cadbury's" chocolates we don't get here in Canada. Such as the Cadbury's Fudge bar. In Canada, we get it, but nowhere near as much. Speaking of the United States, which is pretty cool, in fact, just the other day I went shopping in Omak, better than Canada, but as I said already, not as good as England, for what its worth. The architecture, of course, is also very good and interesting, usually one of the things I do when I go there to visit family and vacation a bit. ACR closing

Your closing of this ACR was problematic for numerous reasons.

1. You did not remove the transcluded ACR from the main review page; that is the first thing you should do when approving an article.
2. You cannot leave a plain "support" with no explanation, and then approve the ACR. It's one thing to give your reason for supporting, and then approve it, but to merely write "support" and then approve it makes it seem like you were just eager to approve the nomination. Please do not let that happen again.
3. When Grapple X left comments, he added them under where it said "Please don't edit anything below here." I've left him a note on his talk page. When tagging the page as closed, be sure that the "Please don't edit anything below here." is at the very bottom, or else (as you learned) it won't close properly.
4. You did not update the classes to "A" on the article's talk page, which is the most important part of the approval – without doing this, it is not technically an A-Class article.

Cat cleanup

Hi and thanks for helping out with usernames. How do you identify problematic usernames for tagging? If you're looking at Filter 188, I'd like you to know that I've been going through all of these for a while now and intend to keep doing it, blocking the new users with promotional usernames who create similarly named pages that get speedy-deleted. So, if you add the "User talk pages with conflict of interest notices" and "Wikipedia usernames with possible policy issues" cats to their talk page (as happens when the "I noticed that the username you have chosen" message is added), I'd appreciate it if you watchlist the talk page and remove the cats (by removing the relevant text, or with HotCat, which you can select in Preferences/Gadgets) after the user is blocked. Or, just wait until an admin reviews and blocks; on some of these pages, the users are getting so many messages that they may not be seeing the messages we really want them to see. - Dank (push to talk) 14:53, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Dank! I usually identify problematic usernames by patrolling new pages, and I just happen to run into them, because it is sometimes obviously. That's how I've done it lately. Thanks for pointing out the Filter 188 to me, that will certainly help me find more usernames for tagging. I also intend to keep looking for more problematic usernames. Sure, I'll follow your advice and remove the categories after being blocked, sure, of course. Regarding HotCat, I already have it installed, I've used it for quite a bit now, it's a really helpful tool. Anyways, I'm always glad to help with the usernames and such, thanks for your comment. To close a peer review, you are required to add {{peer review page|topic=topic name}} to the peer review page, and then replace the {{peerreview}} tag on the article's talk page, with {{oldpeerreview|archive=N}}. Peer reviews can be very slow, that's why they aren't the best option in my opinion, but sometimes you get good feedback. Row and column scopes

Hi TB, Can I ask your advice on the matter of how row and column scopes are viewed at FLC? Am I right in thinking that a table which consists of numerous scopes will stand little chance of getting through FLC because it will fail WP:ACCESS and MOS:DTT? Hi! May I ask which list you are referring to? Is it User:Schrodinger's cat is alive/litter tray 6, because if you mean that it contains the appropriate scope cols and rows, but it needs a table caption to pass WP:DTT, as always. At featured list candidacy, the reviewer seem to be very keen, as am I, on the meeting of WP:ACCESS, but in this case, it does seem to meet it. Hi! Unlike featured list candidacy reviewers, featured article nomination reviewers don't really care about WP:ACCESS, it would seem, although it is part of the criteria for both processes. I was planning on replying at the nomination, but a featured article delegate already closed it, sadly. Anyways, that table doesn't meet WP:ACCESS because it doesn't contain the required scope="row" for the main parameter, but only one. Honestly, it is hard to explain. If you need further assistance, see List of The X-Files episodes for an example of a meeting WP:ACCESS and WP:DTT table. See the gray parameter there, that is scope="row" that is needed, you can also see the coding. After you've added scope rows, you add plainrowheaders to the top of the table's coding for MOS:BOLD now. Also, as you've nominated that quite a few times now, next you nominate it I would advise you to request reviews from WikiProjects and fellow Wikipedians, that should help, always does for me. Thanks TB. The article I am looking at is List of recurring characters in the James Bond film series. Have a look at the talk page and Betty Logan's excellent summary which has two versions, one which I think passes the various hurdles and one which may not. I also think the current one doesn't. I'm not asking for any taking of sides, just a clarification of what will pass at FLC and what won't, from an WP:ACCESS and MOS:DTT point of view (I think everyone appreciates there are other issues that need to be addressed, but we need to get this one right before anything else). There is also a different variation on a theme at [here], which includes greyed out cells (which gets over some issues, but may fail the access point). Extra job as monitor

I hate to ask you to add another task to your monitor job, since you're doing such a great job, but would you mind updating Template:Grey's Anatomy episode count when a new episode airs? Also, when a new episode airs, can you update the "As of November 15, 2012, a total of 178 original episodes have aired" sentence in the last paragraph of the lead at List of Grey's Anatomy episodes with the date of the most recently aired episode? I noticed that you frequently have to revert edits that delete the template, so if you update the template and that sentence yourself, then you won't have to worry about reverting it. Overlink check

I noticed that you've been fairly active at WP:FAC in noting which candidate articles have things linked unnecessarily. I'm certain you've got enough on your plate to stay busy around here, but I'd be appreciative of your advice in that vein. I'm working to get Calostoma cinnabarinum polished up, but it's not only my first push for article quality recognition, but actually my first major article writing project. From the perspective of WP:OVERLINK, I'm mostly concerned about the places in the Distribution, habitat, and ecology section. During its time in GAN, links to the US states (Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, California) were requested. I've also linked most of the countries, on the assumption that places like Belize and Colombia were at least as likely to be unfamiliar to the average reader as Texas or California, even assuming non-American readership. But I'm not sure that's compliant with current practice, and if you've got a few minutes to take a peek, I'd certainly appreciate your advice on which places do or don't need to be blue. Sure, I'd be more than happy to take a look. From what I see, the following terms should be unlinked due to WP:OVERLINK: fungi, buff, Southwestern United States, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Brazil, South Korea, Veracruz, Columbia, and distributed. As you can see, most overlinked terms are coming from the "Distribution, habitat, and ecology", so yes, your correct on that. Depending on which perceptive you are coming at, sometimes the U.S. states can also be considered overlinking, I don't really think so, hence why I don't bring it, just wait for other reviewers to see if there's a problem in that alley. Some seem to request those state links, and some pan them. Regardless of its notability to the world, all countries should still be unlinked as they seem to be known worldwide. I've heard of Columbia, and all of those places. The countries all the main problem for WP:OVERLINK, other than that it seems generally okay. TBrandley 16:52, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

I've culled links to the countries (Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Panama, South Korea, Taiwan). I've retained the link to Veracruz because I link US states, other Mexican states, and Guatemalan departments. The buff link was requested in GAN, but I've gone ahead and just struck the use of the word in favor of explaining the color. The only link to fungi is the one in the taxobox and seems standard on existing fungus FAs, so I think that's probably good for now. Regarding the Southwestern United States link, though, I link other subnational regions (like Eastern Mexico); should this stay linked as a parallel use? I'm not sure what its redundant to. Hi mate, I saw you withdrew the AFD. Still glad you nominated it, though. AFD might not be for clean-up but nothing in WP:BEFORE was going to save that one. I found next to nothing searching for his name. Turns out 19th century Canadians seem to have struggled with his (many different) European names and so most of the available sources simply refer to him as "Bishop Lemmens" - especially confusing given there were a couple of "Bishop Lemmens" around at the time, from the same family. The pilot was killed. and December 31, 2000: An Aerostar 602P, N88AT, approaching Penticton, was cleared for a landing, carrying one pilot, three passengers and two dogs. Neither indicates that it was a Penticton Regional flight though.

"Punishment for computer crime," Up for Deletion

I am Thomas "Birdy" McKee [USBA #23740, admitted to practice Federal Law, 15 October 1981], been actively practicing law for 31+ years and the author of the above. I believe that it is essential article for Wikipedia, not only as a warning to any 'would-be' computer wizards thinking about committing any of the numerous types of computer related offenses, but for the common folks [people] to have an article in which can be quoted in any Court, (State or Federal), for the assertion of personal rights; particularly those who have been unfortunate enough to become a victim of computer crime.

I understand that Wikipedia's guidelines probably have not been correctly met, but the importance (in this computerized era) of the article cannot be dismissed so easily. Far too many people of the population are victims and the event keeps expanding, more and more the Courts (State and Federal) are seeing defendants who have defrauded thousands of people, only to receive a small amount of prison time and perhaps an Order by the Court to pay back the victims which, in most instances, goes unheeded by the defendant.

As a practitioner of the law, I have sworn a sacred duty to abide by, and keep the trust of that law, by whatever means possible. Most lawyers and attorneys fail to more fully comprehend the meaning of this oath;l I have strictly adhered to the quoted Liaz, ca, 930 AD, who stated, "For all men to abide by the Law, the Rules of Society shall remain involute; those among the people who hath failed, hath failed society, those who hath to defend the Law, let them seek justice for the few who knows not."

Simply put, the article was written to place a tool into the hands of those few who do not know what their options are when they, themselves, become a victim of some type of computer crime. Please keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to delete the article.

It has already been listed as a good article, though. If you'd like me to take another look, I am certainly open for that, but right now it would seem that none of those images are necessary per WP:NFCC and MOS:IMAGES, no reasoning for use image, or why those images are important. My primary concern about "boring" hooks has been with sports DYK's, half of which I really find boring because the hook expects the reader to be familiar with the topic in order to find it interesting. So, one way to handle this is to choose hooks that are informative in and of themselves, such that the DYK communicates that importance to the reader. Does this make sense? Are you in the UK? Years ago, I heard that Richard Branson wanted to do a direct flight from Heathrow to Honolulu with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. I believe they would fly non-stop over the Arctic and shave several hours off of the total flight time (much more if you include the normal transfer time with two stops). I am from the United Kingdom, specifically from Basildon, Essex, which is just outside of London and I have used the London Heathrow Airport before. However, in 2006, I moved to Canada, and am currently in Vernon, British Columbia, which is right by Kelowna, meaning that I would fly from the Kelowna International Airport. It is a relatively smaller airport, so it unfortunately does not offer direct flights to Honolulu. Thus, I would need to fly to Vancouver, and get to Honolulu from there. Oh, in that case, what you want to do is leave during the day from Vancouver and arrive at night in Hawaii, around 9 or 10 pm HST, so that you can get to your hotel, go to sleep, and wake up refreshed in the morning. Same thing going back—it's better to take a red eye flight from Hawaii back to Vancouver, sleep on the plane, and arrive early in the morning so you have the entire day. I think this is the most expensive time to fly to Hawaii from Canada, but you may be able to save money in the summer months. Also, you can save money by flying to other American cities, such as Seattle, and then flying to Hawaii, but again that is a seasonal fare. For example, you could probably save a lot of money flying from Vancouver to Seattle and then to Hawaii one to three weeks after Thanksgiving in the states, but you sort of have to be on top of these deals and know what to look for. Was that a problem, to express my opinion? In what way did my position as admin/'crat come into it? Should I have said "Of course, while the hook is not of my taste, I can imagine it may appeal to someone" or something like that? At least I didn't fucking resort to fucking swearing like Viriditas did when directly attacking another editor's edits via an insidious edit summary. Conclusion: don't allow dull-as-hell hooks at DYK. And don't allow erroneous hooks at DYK. In fact, perhaps just discard DYK from the main page to give space to decent quality articles. No, I myself appreciate constructive criticism and honesty generally. I would have, again, myself, would have just like to been notified that my hook was under discussion. As said at that talk page, some hooks, such as mine, can't get that "interesting" for did you know due its contents, although it may still appeal to some. That reassured me. Also, regarding my hooks' inaccuracy, I still don't see the problem. Could you please point out the problem with the hook's inaccuracy, because I have a source in the article itself pointing to the Penticton Herald. I'm planning on taking the article to featured status, so that is actually helpful. I mean no offense against you, and I believe you are a great editor and administrator at Wikipedia. Good, thanks. I don't really see a problem with WikiProject Okanagan, as kind of a sort of "semi-project" to British Columbia. Kind of like a "task force". I'll try to also collaborate at WikiProject British Columbia. Perhaps we at both British Columbia and Okanagan should advertise, by maybe welcoming new editors who have edit a British Columbia or Okanagan article, and stating that they should be join the project. And, even send some invitation to any contributor to these types of articles. We can create a template. So if you would like to do that, it may help. Same to you, TBrandley! The background for this was several discussions at WikiProject Canada, where it was pointed out that there are many WikiProjects on Canadian topics, but few active editors.(In fact the active editor/Wikiproject ratio was about 1:1 by my estimate!) The result is a lot of semi-defunct project pages. If you look at the successful WikiProjects (successful being defined as having enough active editors involved that there is regular communication and collaboration), like MilHist and Chemistry for example, the common factor is a broad topic area and a critical mass of active editors. That said, you are of course free to create a WikiProject on what you want, and put in effort there. It just may not be efficient is all I'm saying. Okanagan could be a task force of BC, and with two active editors at the provincial page, we'd have a better chance at being viable. I know WikiProject Oregon manages to do a lot of work, despite representing a smaller pop. than BC. Anyways, up to you, any activity on BC stuff is better than none. Yeah, it can be slow sometimes. You know, as I kind of said, you could advertise both WikiProjects all over; for example, at Wikipedia:WikiProject British Columbia, say there is also a "WikiProject Okanagan", which is our sister project; same goes for WikiProject Okanagan, our parents projects are WikiProject British Columbia, etc. So, it is kind of a task force. I noticed that it does seem slow at British Columbia, though. Also, I agree with you on successful WikiProjects, MilHist seems to be extremely large, and I'm jealous of that, same seems to go for GOCE and TV, but I'm not sure. Happy Holidays! Hi, TBrandley. I frequently find myself in the position of following your Support declarations at FAC and FLC with serious Opposes, noting glaring prose, grammatical, MOS, citation and sourcing issues. I'm wondering if you keep FACs and FLCs watchlisted after you Support or if you revisit your Supports to see if subseequent reviewers have found issues? If you did, you might realize that other reviewers are frequently finding issues in articles you have supported; it would be helpful if you would keep FACs you Support watchlisted so you can explain why you Support when others are finding issues. Another thing you might do is complete your review, but hold off on Supporting until you see other reviewers have cleared the article; it seems your reviews are missing a lot. Yes, I'll admit, prose is not exactly at the top of my eye, but I am certainly familiar with the Manual of Style at Wikipedia. No, I will not be "holding" off until other reviewers have cleared the article. Wikipedia does not have owners. I admit, sometimes I can be blind, but I always find a number of Manual of Styles issues from many areas of the specific article, just prove that I look through it. I'm not sure why you reference WP:CIVIL or WP:OWN; constructive feedback is part of a collaborative process in a collegial environment. History of encyclopedias

I'm looking into the copyvio issue.

The material came from the article Encyclopedia, in the process of being split (see Wikipedia:Splitting and Wikipedia:Summary style.

Where it came before that is what I'm looking into now. I'm in the process of checking that article's history. I'll report my findings shortly. Please remove the speedy delete request. I am aware of the splitting and summary style guidelines, and I believe it was appropriate to have a seperate article. Entries, however, must not contain copyright violations, but it appears you have addressed the concern or the bot was incorrect. So someone may wish to report the issue to the bot manager.
