Couple of things
Thought you may be interested in this [1]. Seems to go along with the Portal News and is right down your alley. Congrats on another DYK. You are making them look easy at this point. Also, The US Military motto page is starting to become a beast and will need to be broken up. It also needs some pictures or anything to break it up a bit. May not be a bad idea to steal its USMC material and create a Current units of the United States Marine Corps page. One page that has everything. Would be great for a template link as well. Thoughts?--Looper5920 00:09, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Help with SpeedyD's
Hey, I noticed you deleted an article that I tagged for Speedy deletion, "Laura C. Monteiro". Could you please help me delete/process the following articles?
Thanks,JianLi 01:07, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations!
Bill in U.S. House of Representatives contains one of my articles
The following Bill H.R. 3440 Dr. Jose Celso Barbosa Post Office Building Designation Act introduced to the United States House of Representatives by Congressman Luis Fortuño, contains the mini-biography of Dr. Jose Celso Barbosa which I wrote. What a pleasant surprise (smile). Tony the Marine 17:29, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

This article will probably be hitting the Good article reviewer in week. Some things that I have noticed is that for an article to get to FA status it needs a lot of in-line citations and no red-links. I hope that you can watch the talkpage and responded to any comments from the reviewer. I believe this article could make it to FA status with a little work.--Oldwildbill 05:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Re: Jose Celso Barbosa
What happened was that I wanted to find some more information on about the bilingual newspaper that he used to pubolish "El Tiempo". I saw that something was mentioned in a website during my search and I clicked on the website. I started reading the Bill when all of a sudden I said to myself "Man, this looks familiar" and then I realized that I had written what is on the Bill. Today I faxed Luis Fortuno both to his Washington and Puerto Rico offices to let him know that I feel honored that he would use something that I wrote.
Hey, did you read the message above? I also got it. He believes that 2/9 could make it to FA Status. Please help with the in-line citations. I know that you are better in that then I am. Besides, it is all in the External Links. I know that I am asking a lot, it's just that my time is now a little limited and the inline quotes system has changed somewhat since I wrote my last featured article (Before the inline references were "inote", invisible to the casual reader). So, what do you say? Tony the Marine 06:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I have tagged numerous articles for speedy; I only blanked this one because it contained email and other contact information that may be illegal in some countries to have publicly displayed. I have seen this done numerous times before, so rather than resubmitting someone's email address, blanking was the more prudent course. Carlossuarez46 23:17, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
2nd Battalion 9th Marines GA Status
I noticed that you have been working on it and it looks good enough for me. I'm not sure what we want to do with unit histories, But I like it. It would be a goldmine for me if it was my Dad's unit. (He served in the Airborne in Korea). If I don't miss my guess, yours will be the first unit history we've approved. Congratulations! I'll pass it tomorrow. --CTSWyneken(talk) 01:55, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- No slight intended. I should have said, "you all." I sometimes forget which talk page I'm on. Anyway, congrats! By the way, there are two other listings under units, but nothing on the battalion or smaller level -- yet! 8-) --CTSWyneken(talk) 11:31, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! That is great news (I guess he doesn't know that besides Looper's intro, I wrote the article). Like I told you before, together we make a great team. Thanks for doing the reference thing for me.
It seems as if the storm is not headed for Puerto Rico. I just spoke to my wife's aunt overthere. I've been living in Az. for the past 17 years so all I get is "heat". However, my family receives the WAPA TV (Puerto Rican Channel) and the islands newspaper. Thanks for the concern. Tony the Marine 02:46, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Congrats on the GA. Keep up the good work.--Oldwildbill 06:26, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I know it wasn't a slight. You know that you're my right hand man here. He did write some really nice stuff up there. What I like the best is that he said "It would be a goldmine for me if it was my Dad's unit", I let him know that it was my unit. Wow, can you imagine, it will be the first unit history they've approved? Tony the Marine 03:09, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll keep it on the watch list. My speech and debate judge instincts are kicking in with these GAs. I kind of like to watch over my contestants. 8-) By the way, there is at least one more unit page on the GA nom list. If you are not involved in it, please consider doing the GA review for it. If you'd rather not, wade into the thing yourself and help it where you can (if it needs it). Thanks! Bob --CTSWyneken(talk) 12:06, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
Just Wondering
How do those new admin. buttons look on your page? Bet they look nice! Have you heard from your source anything about De Castro? Semper Fi. Tony the Marine 02:37, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, I have checked out the portal. Some great images. But, the thing is that I'm always learning something new. I mean, that Sgt. Owens died on his first day of combat. You know, you never know how you're going to act in a certain situation. Sometimes the real heroes are the people you least expect. That's why I've always told my kids (when they were kids) never worship nor consider sports personalities or celebreties as heros. A hero is a person who is willing to give up all he or she's got to save someone elses life, even if that means sacrificing their own life and does it without expecting any kind of adoration. Tony the Marine 03:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Could you look again at this. The page was created by a named editor who together with User:64.223.55.231 created a bunch of nonsense pages the rest of which were speedily deleted, and also added racist comments to them and Westerly (town), Rhode Island. I'm not sure this place even exists as a real place, I was able to find an old refererence to "Smith Plat" from 1887 but I think this is like a subdivision see Plat. --Brat32 14:42, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: New look for the 2/9 ribbons
Thank you. I figured this way it wouldn't be an eye sore. I'm going to join you guys with the 15th MEU. I had to write an article on the Dr. Jose Celso Barbosa Post Office Building Designation Act for a couple of reasons. First, the website no longer permits access (Good thing I made a copy). Second, I wouldn't want somebody in the future to come and say that I copied the material for the article from the bill. What do think? Semper Fi. Tony the Marine 01:56, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello.
I'm the one who added some pictures and all on 'Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti' , actually hes my father. Some of those pictures I found online and some he sent me himself. You can checkout my album:
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shahzwar555/my_photos (The first and secondlast albums)
As for the gettyimages, I doubt they'd mind since I'm not using anyone elses pictures, I'm using Akbar Bugti's own pictures on his wikipedia link and pictures related to the whole situation. Also, the photographer who took the pictures a few months back Mr. John Moore is very hard to get hold of but I know they will not mind the pictures being put on wikipedia specially when its all directly related to my father Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
Please, consider your decision, I'd truly appreciate it. Yours gratefully,
Shahzwar.

H.R. 3440
I saw your query on Tony's talkpage. According to the official congressional website, H.R. 3440 passed the House by voice vote on March 28, 2006. It passed the Senate by unanimous consent on June 20, 2006, and was signed into law by the President on August 1, 2006. It's now Public Law 109-253. Hope this is helpful. Hey what's the big idea of taking a Wikibreak (smile)? When you get back, could you do youe "Ref" thing on the Pedro del Valle article? I think it could make GA status. Tony the Marine 01:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
DYK
US vs U.S.
I appreciate that the American usage is "U.S." but Wikipedia convention is to use a common style within a page, and the page on transatlantic aircraft plot is written in the British usage (being a British event), so should use "US". I wouldn't be particularly bothered by this, except there are various paragraphs with "UK" and "U.S." in close proximity, and the mixed usage looks very odd. Bluap 14:18, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I do realise that the manual of style says otherwise, but that seems to be for isolated instances. Having mixed usage in the same sentence look very strange, and contradicts the guidance to use a single style throught a page. Bluap 14:29, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Specifically "If an article is predominantly written in one type of English, aim to conform to that type" Bluap 14:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at the page history, I had made the entries consistent within the article (with the exceptions of titles of articles in the references section). However, a few minutes later you submitted an edit changing a couple of the abbreviations back to "U.S.", while leaving the rest as "US". I suspect that you didn't refresh the page before making your edit, so hadn't realised that the inconsistancy had been fixed (in the other direction). Bluap 14:55, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Requesting your opinion
I wrote the article Dr. Jose Celso Barbosa Post Office Building Designation Act, the first bill in history that contains an article from Wikipedia. It appeared on DYK and right away somebody "tags" it for deletion. I inviteyou to express yourself here:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dr. Jose Celso Barbosa Post Office Building Designation Act. Thank you Tony the Marine 16:14, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
I warned him about recreating that article and he did it again. I've told him on his talk page that if he creates it again, I will block him indefinitely. I'd hate to see us geting sued. User:Zoe|(talk) 01:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Question about Main Page On this day
I see that you are active on the On this day... feature. I have a nomination for August 21. Should I add it to Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/August 21 or to the talk page? Or, is there another process? — ERcheck (talk) 01:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, ERcheck, suggestions can go to the talkpage of the Sel. Anniv. template. Please be reminded that the featured item (with the link in boldface) must be a decent wikipage (no stubs, no problem tags like {NPOV} or {cleanup}, etc.) with the date in the text, important historic events are strongly preferred, and hopefully the same wikipage don't get featured in another Sel. Anniv. templates. There is also the issue of diversity (in topic, era, geographical locations ....) and we are not supposed to steal TFA's thunder or re-use recent DYK or ITN items. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I thought I should let you know of the "rules" there. What would you like to post there ? I'm looking for a replacement for the 1680 item, anyway. -- PFHLai 13:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- The article is not a stub. The information is verified and cited in the article. It has not been in DYK or ITN.
- On August 21, 1968, the Medal of Honor was posthumously awarded to James Anderson, Jr. — which was the first award of the Medal of Honor to an African American U.S. Marine.
- Let me know if this meets the need. If so, I'll add it to the talk page. — ERcheck (talk) 22:39, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- The article is not a stub. The information is verified and cited in the article. It has not been in DYK or ITN.
- Thank you for the suggestion, ERcheck. I've added a similar line to the template as a hidden backup item (in case one of the other items becoming a TFA, getting tagged for NPOV, etc.) I did not use it as a 'live' item because there have been complaints about having too many US-related items in the Sel.Anniv. section, e.g. Wikipedia talk:Selected anniversaries#USA bias in Selected Anniverary. If you feel strongly about featuring this item, please consider swapping this with the 1976 item. (I don't think Operation Paul Bunyan was that historic an event, but this year is the 30th anniversary. What the heck.) You are an admin, so you can edit it anytime. I'll be off-line that whole week, so help yourself. :-) Cheers. -- PFHLai 06:42, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Mark Crutcher and Life Dynamics
Though I placed the hangon code on the Mark Crutcher page, it was deleted within an hour with no discussion. The Life Dynamics Inc. page was summarily nuked with no warning, no discussion, no nothing.
I thought that there was to be attempts made at reconciliation, that users were not to simply nuke articles. And I don't even know how to find out who nuked them. ChristinaDunigan 18:57, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Just for clarification..
Why did you take the time to remove the db-repost template from an article that was previously deleted for being non-notable, and on the talk page the creator admits it doesn't belong in article space, yet not delete the article?--Crossmr 04:26, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Its still tagged as a speedy. I put db-bio on it as well and the repost just so that an admin would quickly know that it had been deleted before (I'm not sure how easy it is for you to tell that).--Crossmr 04:38, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- It was the same assertion as before, and if you check the last entry on the talk page the creator admints it doesn't belong there and that he's moved it to user space (which I think is also a criteria for deletion)--Crossmr 04:40, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- and I know repost isn't appropriate criteria, it was just included in addition to the db-bio template as a courtesy. I've never seen what an admin sees when they look at a page.--Crossmr 04:44, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

If I put {{prod}} leaving the text, will it be ok for you? KRBN (Talk | 10:58, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
First of all, I have explained the reasons for the deletions. So don't blame me for such things. I have checked some links u showed me and I checked some categories with articles for speedy deletion. There are several articles which are on deletion and you say nothing to those users that put them on speedy deletion. One example is User:Merope, who puts freely articles for deletion.
As about your friend User:TruthbringerToronto, his problem for putting an article on deletion is not just with me. He did that to many articles o deletion by other users that they can't be included in encyclopedia because they are so USELESS and he insists to revert them from deletion. Just check his Talk page (TruthbringerToronto) And the most impressive on that is that he HAS NO IDEA ABOUT THOSE ARTICLES. That person is from Canada annd sure has no idea about most of the articles, especially unknown people in Greece and Cyprus. I think he is the wikipedia vandalist.
I want also to make another question what can I do if I disagree with the creation of a category? sure not for speedy deletion I guess. Then what else I can do on that?

I insist that I have explained the reasons for deletions. I may did vandalism without understanding it but at least I came to ask you what to do. However I was suprised for you for lying that I continued puting articles for deletion. Your aim is not to not vandalizing rather than to block me. Because I HAVE 6 DAYS TO PUT ARTICLES FOR DELETION. This article, which you've speedily deleted, may need to be restored to undergo a proper Afd (I am indeed concerned about the notability of this person). See Talk:Alexander I. Poltorak. What do you think? Cheers. --Edcolins 12:11, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your notes on my talk page and on Talk:Alexander I. Poltorak. You have done the right thing in an elegant manner. I think the article should not be restored right now, the copypright permission claim being indeed insufficient. It would be careless of us to accept the copyright text on the basis of that claim only. The issue of notability should also be investigated by the author first after reading the guidelines Wikipedia:Notability (people). Wait and see. --Edcolins 15:11, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
