News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2021).
Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that third party appeals are allowed but discouraged.
- The 2021 Desysop Policy RfC was closed with no consensus. Consensus was found in a previous RfC for a community based desysop procedure, though the procedure proposed in the 2021 RfC did not gain consensus.

- The community consultation on the Arbitration Committee discretionary sanctions procedure was closed, and an initial draft based on feedback from the now closed consultation is expected to be released in early June to early July for community review.
Protection tags
Hey. Just wanted to let you know that MusikBot II was recently configured to automatically add protection tags (about a 10-min window), so there is no longer a need to add these manually. Regards, El_C 12:02, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @El C, I actually knew that cause I see the bot adding tags. It's just what I do when I'm bored. I'll stop doing that and try to do something more productive. EN-Jungwon 12:06, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds good, EN-Jungwon. Certainly, there's no shortage of WP:GNOME tasks to be done. Regards, El_C 12:11, 8 May 2021 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Draft: Mont Marte
Hi there,
If possible could you provide some specific feedback on which parts of the draft (if you can still view) were considered "unambiguous advertising". Just trying to clarify is it the mention of products? A draft was made in hopes that page could be edited to meet guidelines rather than be deleted. Also wondering do I need to declare COI on my user page? Currently just declaring as a paid employee. From my understanding a business page can be written by paid employee as long as it's declared and text meets guidelines i.e. isn't promotional. Thanks, anymore specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would like to re-write my draft and want to ensure I am complying with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Sophie at Mont Marte (talk) 01:48, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Sophie at Mont Marte, Unfortunately, I can't see the deleted page history to see what text was added to the page. I did tag the page for speedy deletion but I removed the speedy deletion tag after I saw that you had declared COI. Maybe you could contact the deleting admin Jimfbleak and ask him why he deleted it. Maldivean prez
Hi, and thanx for your quick reply!
SHame on me - first, I really, really checked if it was his presidential term (tenure) or his parliamentary term - twice - still, I made this amateurish mistake!
Another shame is that - after 10-12 years (out of which maybe 8-9 as a registered editor) here at Swedish/German/Dutch/Danish Wikipedia (I'm Swedish), I still don't know how to answer someone in Talks, and also don't know how to give a "Thank You" to somebody (like you...).
If you could give me a quick lesson (not necessarily today), or send me to the correct link for instructions, I'd appreciate it and your time.
Regards, Jörg Ausfelt

Muslim?
EN-Jungwon...as you can see (?), I removed the part on you being a Muslim. I took for granted that you're Maldivean (and thus Muslim) - which I now see you are, but when I double checked your name, it read Jungwon which is Korean (and a Korean pop singer...), which is why I changed my mind and removed the part.
But now that I see you're actually living in The Maldives, I'm confused...I don't want you to think I did that editing out of fear or prejudice or whatever, I just thought you're South Korean and that the PS I wrote was pointless. Alright?
I won't disturb you anymore, I see you're "busy", as it says on your page...;-)
/J.
PS. Maybe you CAN'T see my editings on your Barnstar...?!?
PPS. I've ALWAYS signed my editing (in 10 years, I might've misssed out once or twice - but I doubt it), but I didn't see it as necessary under Talk. I was wrong. I still struggle with this side of editing at Wikipedia (I know I'm not answering at the right place right now...). I thought only you could read my comments directed at you. From now on I'll ALWAYS use it...besides, I'm not one bit interested in your (or anybody else's) personal life (mea culpa), but I was at The Maldives in a time (Feb./March '84...) when people still confused it with Las Malvinas, and when SCUBA diving wasn't a "thing"...and I'm also fully aware of the political unrest this nation has been experiencing every now and then during those 37 years (and that a "much bigger plane than normal" (Malaysia Airlines Flight 370?) was seen over the southernmost islands on that morning, 8 March 2014, when it disappeared, heading straigth toward Diego García...).
Sorry for my mistakes, I'm better at editing IMDb and Discogs, it's not that complicated (but there are more fights...) ;-)
Ddziękuję, J.

Did I do it right? I got a Notice from you, pls. explain to me what you mean by it, and what I should do!
I just uploaded my first photo on Wikipedia. It's not a great photo, but it's mine...un fortunately, it says Minnsesskylt which is Swedish for Memorial Sign, or - rather - Memorial Board, although it's a stone. Mea culpa. I don't know if it's possible to change its name now...I already tried to no avail: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Nice_truck_attack#/media/File:Nice_Minnesskylt.jpg It's a Memorial sign for the victims of the 2016 terror attack in Nice...I was there and in Monaco for 2 days (my b-day was spent - by myself - in Monte Carlo the following day, but not in the casino...). I walked outside the incredible Hotel Negresco and checked their €250, seven-course menu out in disgust, then walked the Promenade des Anglais, read the names of all the 86 dead, and by chance I found this sign on the gates to a closed museum (at 8PM) totally unbeknownst to me; Musée Masséna (I found it online today, on TripAdvisor), and then slowly walked home to my €45 a night hostel - "cheapest" in Nice - thinking of the victims (all the kids, their families...as well as my then 18-year-old daughter). At the hostel, 30 mins. east of Negresco - which shares a building with/next to the Swiss church (!) that needs the extra money...I slept with 5 others (1 tall guy beneath me, 3 Taiwanese and Korean girls, and a tiny Japanese woman in her late 60s/early 70s in the room with 3 freakin' IKEA [!] bunkbeds to eat some of the stuff I'd bought in a nearby supermarket (on the 2nd day, the Japanese woman moved out, and a fat, loud French woman who was drunk didn't fit into her bed, thus had to sleep in a comfy chair...not so comfortable, but she slept like a baby and snored like my deceased grandma...). I had a hard time fitting in as well - I'm not tall (1,78), but a bit overweight and heavily set - and these bunkbeds are NOT for grownups...also, the A/C didn't help when people walked in and out all evening. I'm used to sleep at +17 degrees...experts say +16 is the best temperature to sleep in, plus it's suppposed to be QUIET and dark. It wasn't... Nice and Monaco were HOT and humid even in late September, almost like in West Africa, Central America, Brazil, or Southeast Asia and India (or The Maldives and Sri Lanka...). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Nice_truck_attack Sorry for my rambling... /Jörg |

1938 Gordon state by-election
Regarding your edit to 1938 Gordon state by-election with the edit summary v2.04 - Fix errors for CW project (HTML text style element <b> (bold) - Template without correct beginning - Misnested tags)
. There was an error on the page (|via=Trove}}
was duplicated at the end of a reference). What I reverted was the other 2 aspects of the edit (1) replacing the html tags <b></b>
with wikimarkup. So far as I am aware the use of the HTML tags has not been deprecated and in this case there is an useful difference in their function - the page is transcluded using Template:Excerpt which changes wikimarkup bold to a link, which it doesn't do with the html tags. I have deliberately used this difference in this case. (2) removing the second set of <noinclude></noinclude>
tags, which meant the article had a surplus set of closing brackets. I presume it was an error (we all make them) as I can see no reason why this would be done. --Find bruce (talk) 22:49, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Russification
- Hi, can you get Ушкуйник checked? He does constant Russification of articles, he was warned and banned because of this multiple times, when I report him, a Russian Wiki mod, asks me to consider "Dispute Resolution"? Really? Maybe I should pinpoint his edits if both of you don't see any issues here? This, this, this, this, this? Can we get another, non-Russian mod, please?, I don't know why it's so hard for you to see his contributions. IP user(s) disrupting Love Myself (campaign) page
I'd like to bring to your attention 2 ips that recently disruptively edited the above article despite my warning+reverting 3 times. This is the first one and this is the second. I didn't check to see if both were coming from the same location or not. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 02:58, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

TXT discog question
Only1greenyoshi insists on repeated edits like this and this with regards to BHE/BHM and the Rep Records name. I have explained more than once to them but they continue to ignore me and do what they want despite the redirect being okay and the full RR not being necessary every single time it's used. Idk what else to do. I can't revert because I exceeded 3RR earlier today wo realizing, and if I change it they'd probably just change it again. Would you mind terribly keeping an eye on it or maybe reaching out to them on their talk page if you have the time? Then again, now I have to wonder if this would be considered me trying to micromanage that page too. Maybe I should just ignore it? God I'm so hesitant to say anything about anything now after that. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:34, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Carlobunnie, I'll keep my eyes on the article. I don't think any discussion with Only1greenyoshi will lead to anything. On a side note if you are having to deal with edit conflicts use the paragraph-based edit conflict feature in the beta features tab of your preferences. It can help out a lot when dealing with edit conflicts. Happy editing. EN-Jungwon 17:35, 2 June 2021 (UTC)

- Hi @Agrudjr. I didn't tag AG Rud for speedy deletion. I tagged Agrudjr/sandbox under WP:CSD G2. I then removed the speedy deletion tag and moved the page to your userspace because I thought you meant to create it in your userspace and instead created it in mainspace by mistake. After moving the page to your userspace, I CSD tagged Agrudjr/sandbox under WP:CSD R2. After I tagged it for R2 you moved the page to AG Rud and it appeared that I tagged AG Rud for speedy deletion but I had actually tagged Agrudjr/sandbox. Sorry for the confusion. - Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Deleted Page
Hello Jungwon,
I received the information that the page I created (X Ray Doors) is against the rules and therefor it is deleted. I was wondering why, as a lot of companies and brands use Wikipedia to present their company and their products? It can or it can not be marked as a promotional, which is the subject of personal view. In any case, please tell me what was wrong and suggest how the page can exist but to be by the rules. Thanks in advance.

I believe the copying is the other way around. This text was in Kila (Buddhism), contributed by the editor B9 hummingbird hovering (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log). Said editor was active 2007 and was blocked in 2010. Material was subsequently copied from Wikipedia to that blog in 2013. Possibly the original contributor republishing "their" articles post-block... In any case, the material was contributed to Wikipedia pre-2010 so can't be a copy of that 2013 WordPress blog post. - Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.

Request to add my information back
hello, i realised that you removed my edits I did today (this is my second account because i forgot my password). hmm i added more information on snow kong, and it’s actually true because she joined jyp in 2012 and left in 2014 (she trained with twice’s members too). she was also in the list of cosmic girl, you can Google it too. and for the members, there is no actual position. it’s weird that you added “Dancer” because every member is a Dancer. however, i strongly disagree that you placed dancer beside esther and not for other members because she is the weakest member in dance. hence, i removed it. i added “sub-Dancer” for zhao xiao tang and k lu instead (according to how kpop idols rank their position: main, lead, sub). i added that snow kong is the visual, she even went onto 热搜 in weibo. she is the visual along with kiki. she is also the sub-vocalist like you can realise in <hello>, she sang one of the part and is usually given the sub singer position for all THE9 song. hence, i don’t think i did any mistake of editing the thing. if you disagree with me, you can leave me a message 1a2b3c456 (talk) 14:53, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Short Descriptions
Can you please stop adding Short Descriptions such as a Category 4 tropical cyclone based on the SSHWS category. This is because most systems do not offically get rated on the Saffir-Simpson scale outside the North Eastern Pacific or Atlantic Basins. As a result you could be confusing readers when you call something a Cat 4 TC, when it was a Cat 5 on the Aus Scale which is the primary scale in the SHEM. Thanks Jason Rees (talk) 08:45, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Referring to an artist by their correct name.
Hi there, thank you for your message about my changes to the Lee Taemin article. I appreciate it if you could explain the logic behind the difference between how this artist’s article is treated as opposed to American and more well known artists like Rihanna or Beyoncé and many more on Wikipedia. They all are referred to with the name their agency and official albums and websites use for them and not their last name. If the issue is with the title of the article (as another person mentioned in the talk section), then should I create an entire article with title “Taemin”? It seems a bit discriminatory that he isn’t treated the same way the more famous artists are treated. Thanks. AceTaem (talk) 02:55, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- @AceTaem please see MOS:SURNAME. If you want the article to be renamed then you can open a move request. EN-Jungwon 03:03, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

I'd like to know if I could retrieve the draft that I had written, so I don't need to start from scratch. I will correct the issues and try publishing again later.
Appreciate your attention to this. I spend a long time writing the page, so I'd really appreciate to get the text back (even if through email), so I can start make the adjustments required for publishing it again.
Thanks in advance for your support.

confused
Hi, I'm very confused about what happened.
I created a page and have been waiting for it to be approved or not.
Then I just got a message from you saying it was tagged for deletion because of plagiarism.
I went to look and saw that someone else had added a ton of plagiarized content to what I wrote.
I wrote a message contesting the deletion, asking if we could revert to my original draft and get rid of the plagiarism that way.
But it seems like the article has already been deleted.
So I don't know what I should do or should have done about this. It bothers me that the article that I worked on is just gone because someone else came in and added a lot of things to it that they shouldn't have.
Arrowyn (talk) 18:01, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Arrowyn you can ask for the page to be restored at WP:REFUND. You should explain what happened and an administrator will look into it. EN-Jungwon 18:05, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- The article, minus the copyrighted content, has been restored. Liz Read! Talk! 22:47, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Removing Good articles from Wikidata
Hi EN-Jungwon, I notice you have been maintaining Good article removals on Wikidata. I am not sure how you do this, but I tried removing the Good article icon for Phedina (Wikidata:Q931465), and it says I do not have permission. Thought you may know the secret, CMD (talk) 14:40, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Chipmunkdavis it's because of the redirect. I get the same error when trying to remove the good article badge from redirects. You'll need to remove the redirect and then remove the badge on Wikidata. I have done that for the page that you specified. EN-Jungwon 14:44, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you. The Wikidata error message is quite misleading in that case. I'll proceed with this new knowledge in mind, best, CMD (talk) 14:46, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Quote length
Can we discuss this edit?
I understand that Wikipedia:Quotations is an essay and thus doesn't have the same force as a policy or even a guideline, but I think it is good advice. I have personally reverted material in quotation marks or block quotes if I felt it was excessively long even if my sense was it might survive litigation. My impression, which I fully support, is that we ought to draw a line tougher than might be acceptable within the law.
However, this particular quote is 75 words long, and doesn't strike me as so long that it ought to be removed for copyright reasons. (I'll emphasize that I haven't considered the editorial question of whether the quote is appropriate in the context of the article – that's an editorial decision that should be considered separately from the copyright issue.)
I'm not inclined to remove the quote, and not comfortable applying RD1. I'm open to discussion, and I'm going to also ping @Diannaa: who has more experience in these areas.
Having said that, I have noticed your username popping up often in RD1 requests, so I do appreciate your interest and involvement in an area that probably doesn't get a lot of thanks. Thanks.--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:21, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- Addition ping to @TheresNoTime:--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:24, 22 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Sphilbrick, honestly I wasn't aware of that essay. I agree that a 75-word quote doesn't need revdel and I've had Diannaa decline some of my revdel requests if the copyvio issue is some short quotes. I don't know why I keep requesting revdel for quotes even though I had those kinds of requests declined in the past. I'll be more careful about this issue. @TNT can you unhide these revisions please. EN-Jungwon 08:40, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response and your understanding. I'll let TNT undo, but if that doesn't happen, I'll take care of it. S Philbrick(Talk) 11:33, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Sphilbrick: Apologies, this was a "looks good to me" RD - I've undone my revision deletion. Onus is absolutely on me for these actions, but could/should disputed {{copyvio-revdel}} templates be removed whilst they're being discussed? Saves my over-eager backlog clearing! Many thanks to all for looking out for these cases though, really appreciated ~TNT (she/they • talk) 16:52, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
- TheresNoTime, Been there done that. You look at some text in an edit, make sure it matches or closely matches some other site, make sure that of the site is subject to copyright and doesn't have an acceptable license, and it seems like you're good to go.
- That said I'm not fully sure I understand your question. It may just be a timing issue – I looked at the request and started to act on it decided there was something that didn't look right and opened the discussion with the editor who requested the RD 1, but you took care of it before I'd heard a response. I'm always open to improve processes but not seeing a simple alternative. S Philbrick(Talk) 19:13, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Music Bank
Hi EN-Jungwon, would like ask you about Music Bank article pertaining to the K-Chart section, I'm currently in the mist of cleaning up the individual dropdown list for overlinking (basically retaining/linking the first mention) however just want to check if I'm allowed to exercise BOLD by changing the entire individual list from 1998–2005 to table formatting for each dropdown as the date listed for each individual list (1998–2005) isn't compliance with MOS date formatting guidelines. In addition, the benefit of table is that, repeated entries can be merged hence reducing the number of times, it was written. The only differneces compared to the table in 2006 till 2021 is the lack of Episode and points column, would that be okay? What is your thoughts of such conversion/cleanup? — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 13:20, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Paper9oll I don't think it will be an issue if you change it to table format. I am more inclined to remove it as it has been unsourced since their initial addition to the article, like @Carlobunnie did on M Countdown in this edit. Maybe we can start a discussion on the talk page. EN-Jungwon 14:05, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- @EN-Jungwon Now that you mention it, it does seem reasonable to remove it since I highly doubt there would be any sources available. The circumstances seem similar to the discussion on M Countdown. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 14:14, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think Inkigayo should be included as well if there is discussion to be open, both have the same issues of being unsourced. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 14:32, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2021).
- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.

Inkigayo edit
Hello EN-Jungwon, this is Latteeeeeoo. I am very new to editing in wikipedia, and I thought that a group was missing in the inkigayo chart, so I decided to add it to the chart. From my research, GOT7 has ever scored 13,945 points in inkigayo with the song Hard Carry (their 3rd win). So that’s why I added GOT7 there. Sorry, if it was actually a mistake, but I would like to hear your view about it. And also, I’m not really good at writting letters hehe. That’s all, thankyou.
Update: After some more research, some people said that it was because that inkigayo made a mistake with the live voting score and they later corrected the score. So yes, they are actually not one of the top ten with the highest score in inkigayo.
Latteeeeeoo (talk) 16:01, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Latteeeeeoo, I had checked the 2016 list and Got7 only got 9,185 points. I am unaware of any miscalculations in the scores. EN-Jungwon 15:43, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

- Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.
- Additionally, consensus for proposal 6C of the 2021 RfA review has led to the creation of an administrative action review process. The purpose of this process will be to review individual administrator actions and individual actions taken by users holding advanced permissions.
- Following the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Cabayi, Donald Albury, Enterprisey, Izno, Opabinia regalis, Worm That Turned, Wugapodes.
