Question
[edit]How do I get to the requested articles?Dante2326 (talk) 06:38, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Dante
- Dante2326, I don't know what you mean with "requested articles". I asked you all to find a press release, a company website, a blog. If that's what you mean, look on the internet.
Anyway, you weren't in class, so I'll tell you this way--if you want more credit for the assignments you've missed in the first two weeks, it has to be done this week. Dr Aaij (talk) 04:00, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Okay, thank you.Dante2326 (talk) 18:44, 2 February 2017 (UTC)Dante
Dear Dr. Aiij, I am an epidemiologist and new to Wikipedia. I have been working on the circumcision device articles and appreciate your edit to the Prepex article. There are many primary citations in the article besides the one you noted. Would you be willing to review those as well? Thanks PeterPetersmillard (talk) 17:32, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, but that's sort of outside my jurisdiction right now--my students and I saw a problem with the somewhat extraordinary claim that so many millions of lives would be saved through male circumcision. I haven't looked at the history of the article, so I don't know if I'm messing with your work, if you know what I mean, but in general I can say that Wikipedia articles need to be based on secondary sourcing, esp. when strong claims are made. So if you run into primary sources that do much more than simply confirm a somewhat obvious fact, I urge you to look into the matter, either by tagging or by adding secondary sources. I hope that helps, Dr Aaij (talk) 18:22, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks! It is in fact not an extraordinary claim at all, but I take your point about sources!Petersmillard (talk) 18:25, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
- Dear Petersmillard, I just looked at the source--it wasn't "saving" so many lives, it said preventing so many infections. See my edit. Thank you, Dr Aaij (talk) 19:01, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
Yes! Perfect. They were really stretching the truth there (and in much of the rest of the article, too...)Petersmillard (talk) 19:04, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
Oh, no. Now you got me thinking. Here from WP:MDS A primary source in medicine is one in which the authors directly participated in the research or documented their personal experiences. They examined the patients, injected the rats, filled the test tubes, or at least supervised those who did. Many, but not all, papers published in medical journals are primary sources for facts about the research and discoveries made. A secondary source in medicine summarizes one or more primary or secondary sources, usually to provide an overview of current understanding of the topic, to make recommendations, or to combine results of several studies. Examples include literature reviews or systematic reviews found in medical journals, specialist academic or professional books, and medical guidelines or position statements published by major health organizations. IMHO, UNAIDS is an authoritative source and therefore a secondary source. Petersmillard (talk) 20:58, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
- I have my doubts about that. I do not believe that UNAIDS is a health organization in the sense of WP:MEDRS (though I'm sure someone like SlimVirgin knows that better than me), and what's being cited there (last note in Prepex#History) is hardly a review study or meta-analysis--it's a press release. Titles
[edit]Can you help me with my titles?Dante2326 (talk) 18:43, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Dante
Wiki Links
[edit]I want to add a link to witchcraft on my article on User:YoungWizard/Azande witchcraft, but the article on witchcraft has multiple issues. Should I use the link anyway or leave it be? YoungWizard (talk) 20:41, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
- I made a tweak or two to the draft; go have a look. (Note also I tweaked the link above--it went to the talk page, and piping wasn't necessary here.) Dr Aaij (talk) 05:39, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: User:Secret Nine
[edit]Hello Dr Aaij. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User:Secret Nine, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: G2 cannot be applied in userspace. Thank you. SoWhy 16:48, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- SoWhy, can you find another reason to delete it? User:Secret Nine doesn't exist, and the redirect came about because a student simply moved something to the wrong space (and under the wrong title). Thanks, Dr Aaij (talk) 18:34, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, okay. I was thrown by the gadget I use which displayed the user symbol. What you are looking for is WP:CSD#U2. I deleted those pages. Regards SoWhy 20:37, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks User:SoWhy--I was in the classroom trying to multitask, meaning I got most everything wrong. Dr Aaij (talk) 17:08, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Montgomery Industrial School for Girls
[edit]Montgomery Industrial School for Girls has been proded. Just wanted to bring it to your attention in case you weren't aware and would want to take some sort of action (e.g. userfication for preservation). I'm not sure if it meets WP:NSCHOOL. Best Regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 13:58, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks Godsy. It will surely pass the GNG--if only it had been ready to go live. I appreciate the note! Dr Aaij (talk) 17:08, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Citations
[edit]Hi, Dr. Aaij. I looked at your recent edits on Azande witchcraft. So if two sentences next to each are related and from the same source, I don't have to put citations for both of them? YoungWizard (talk) 19:20, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- Basically, yes. You put a footnote at the end of a word, phrase, sentence, set of sentences, paragraph, whatever it is that you got from that source. Makes for much easier reading too! Say, do the Azande practice Vaginal steaming? Dr Aaij (talk) 19:26, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- I am not sure, but I just loaned book on the Azande from the library so I will check for that. YoungWizard (talk) 23:13, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

DYK for James Sullivan (Medal of Honor)
[edit]On 18 March 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article James Sullivan (Medal of Honor), which you recently nominated. New article
[edit]Hey Dante2326, how about this? Dr Aaij (talk) 15:39, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Hi Dr.Aij, I just wrote an article on a WW II ace https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Paskoski and am a little confused with setting up the references and making sure they are done properly. I was also wondering if it is acceptable to use a picture of him i found off google images. thanks for the help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaelgav09 (talk • contribs) 04:01, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
- Michaelgav09, I see you never returned to this article, though five different editors came by to help out... Dr Aaij (talk) 02:59, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
Haha
[edit]I was the one who made that link. (No worries about your removal - I almost didn't add it.) LadyofShalott 04:29, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- You're a cat person, aren't you. Dr Aaij (talk) 14:38, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hah, yes! In related matters, I disagree with you about a similar link elsewhere.
- Hmm OK, Lady--I gladly submit, like a good doggie. Thanks for the note, and thanks for all your help this semester. Dr Aaij (talk) 14:29, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

[edit]On 19 May 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Rabbits' Wedding, which you recently nominated.
