Vandal IP
Hi Dr.K. Sorry to bother you but there is a vandalizing IP. As you can see in the IP's (edit history) that all of them are nothing but vandalism. Apparently it's a school IP but not entirely sure. (N0n3up (talk) 02:40, 14 May 2016 (UTC))
- Hi N0n3up. No problem at all. It's always nice talking to you. The IP seems to have stopped for now. If they start again, give them a couple more warnings and then, if they continue, report them to AIV. Dr. K. 01:31, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
DYK for Poll (band)
On 27 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Poll (band), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1971, "Anthrope Agapa" (Humankind Love Each Other), an album by Greek pop group Poll, sold 200,000 copies, a record unsurpassed by any Greek band since then? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Poll (band). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Poll (band)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

About the revision
Hey Dr. K. I just want to inform you that the person who delete the passage 'Kingdom of Cyrene (632–30 BC)' in the article List of historic countries and regions of Greece wasn't me but an ip user with the code number: 178.59.185.203. Thanks :) Greek Macedon (talk) 16:34, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

New Edit warring on Eastern Orthodox article

- Hi LoveMonkey. How are you? Nice seeing you around. :) I checked the article on the Roman Catholic Church and it is mentioned at the lead that it is a Christian Church. I know it sounds a bit too much, but, in that light, perhaps a mention at the EOC article may be ok, at least imo. Take care. Dr. K. 04:17, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Page editing
Dear sir Thank you for acknowledging the content that I added to the page atif aslam. But it is to understand that the content I added was taken from a very powerful and precise source. It is certain that I used a source that is recognised and unterstood. Any how. It is my mistake. I shall add a source when I edit a page in the future. Re: Socks
I agree that generally a ban is a ban, and socks edits should be reverted; however, with a roaming IP there is little that can done other that protect the page for a few days or revert edits. At least attempting to assume good faith (they may, after all, not be Annales but someone with a very similar tone, temperament, edit pattern, and rhetoric) and open up a dialogue to see if any improvements can be made. For example, they made a comment about Jowlett and the wording attributed to that source: that seems like something checking out for accuracy sake.EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 19:41, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- It is an unambiguous sock based on the behavioural evidence and the geolocation. Please see the past reports at the SPI where you can see they geolocate at Sheffield UK where the reported socks also originate from. Dr. K. 20:04, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- Point being, some of what they said (I.e. the example above) did seem legit, and if a productive discussion on the rest can be had then what is the harm...we can at least attempt (the Annales nuclear deal if you will)?
- Out of interest, considering comments made by Annales not being based in the UK was his ip ever investigated (I know they don't always do that)?EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 21:19, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- There can be no bargaining with longterm disruptors and sockmasters so any discussion with socks is out of the question. If you wish to adopt a point made by a sock, then you can ask about it on the article talk. But doing this on a large scale is not in the cards, as it encourages block evasion and further disruption. As far as the IPs they could be proxies located in the UK directing traffic from other locations. CUs never comment on any connection with a named sock account. Dr. K. 21:31, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
You in the past advised that user about reverts without discussion. How do you feel about him trolling another editor (with whom he has a history) and reverting (and then again) just to aggravate him? The edits may be subject to discussion--which I am willing to do. - Juan Riley First of all, I was simply reverting your new recent edits back into the original version, as per WP:BOLD states if you've been reverted, you discuss on the talk page. I've invited you to talk about your edits, yet you refused. Second, I was revising WWII-related articles which is how I noticed these edits (unlike you who has a history of WP:HOUND and have evidence). Not to mention your vandalism at my talk page here and having a user warn you of such actions. Oh, and it's impolite to talk about another editor without pinging him/her. I've started a talk regarding these changes but apparently you'd rather blame me for a recent edit you did. (N0n3up (talk) 01:12, 19 August 2016 (UTC))
- @Both editors: First, when going to another editor's talkpage seeking advice, if you are really sincere about the advice you are seeking, there should be no PAs and no characterisations like "trolling", "vandalism" etc. Just a dispassionate accounting of the facts. In any case, I suggest both of you should try and de-escalate this. It will not help either of you if this continues. N0n3up, please try to de-escalate and that includes no more reversions. Thanks. Dr. K. 02:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks Dr.K. Although I wasn't the one making the edits nor the accusations, I just returned the article to its long-standing original version. And Juan Riley , If you wan't, we can start the discussions in the different talk pages according to their relevant articles if you wan't to talk about your edits, it doesn't have to be in your talk page if you don't want. May I suggest WP:RFC. (N0n3up (talk) 03:15, 19 August 2016 (UTC))

recalling past punch-ups
Hi Dr K.
I remember you from some rather fierce debates we had in the past around Greece articles - fierce but never nasty which is rather rare on Wikipedia. This time we appear to be on the same page on the Turkish coup article. Let's agree to maintain the fierceness and the fairness if we meet again (either on the same side, or on opposing sides of an argument). After all, Wikipedia has far too few people who can argue at the PhD level. Let's go with the odd tradition of Wikipedia and put, what according to me, is a fitting barnstar to this

In fact, if I remember well, I think most of the time I tend to agree with you. In the odd time we may have had a disagreement, I don't remember anything strong about it and my respect for you is undiminished. Thank you for keeping the encyclopedia safe. :) Take care. What is the story with the RooshV sockpuppet?
What is the story with the RooshV sockpuppet? I ran across the issue on one of the many random places where the sock posted his complaints, and took a quick look to see if there actually was and improper commercial promotion going on (I didn't see any). The actual page just looks like another page about a somewhat-notable person selling material on a subject that I have no interest in, covered the way Wikipedia usually covers such things. Any idea why this one attracted an enemy? I am suspecting a commercial competitor, but then again it might just be the usual feminism vs. antifeminism battle. --Guy Macon (talk) 14:51, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Guy: Hi Guy. I came across this sock when I saw their edits on Drmies's talk. The intensity of their edits indicated a rather strong case of NOTHERE. Their attacks against editors in good standing, most of whom I know and respect, were obviously clueless. I didn't check the details of the edits since the volume of the sock's complaints indicated they were over the top. If I had to guess the reason for this, I would put it in the second of your choices. It seems too charged to me for it to be based just on commercial reasons. It looks like a political/ideological dispute. The subject of the BLP holds very controversial ideas on some very sensitive topics. It is rather easy to gather a lot of opposition when this is the case. Dr. K. 19:00, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Ancient Olympic Games article
Hi Dr.K.! I just want to ask for your help in the article "Ancient Olympic Games" due to persistent vandalism by the user SJGS who keep changing one specific passage of the article and he is not even willing to make an edit summary explaining why he does that. I had also requested protection of the page (which was vandalized by ip users also) and the page became (and still is) semi-protected. I don't know if he does that on a good faith but his edits seem inaccurate. What do you think? NickTheRipper (talk) 15:50, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
- I reverted, added two new sources, and gave a final warning to the editor. Dr. K. 19:26, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your help Dr.K. but it seems that he reverted your edits and delete your sources again. If you want my opinion I think that he should be blocked. Thanks again for your help! NickTheRipper (talk) 15:41, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- I have added seven new reliable sources. This enables anyone to revert removal of this material as vandalism. Next time, revert and give this user additional warnings. I will do the same until he is blocked. Dr. K. 21:40, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

You are at 6 reverts which is 2x3RR. Please stop, otherwise a report has to be filed. Thanks in advance. Dr. K. 04:49, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- First, it's not me who started such edit war, reverting editions without justifications - please pay attention the time line of article revision history. So, I ask you to read the WHOLE discussion (including the previous on same subject filed HERE), following it; in order to avoid play a double standard at this issue. Thanks Cybershore (talk) 16:14, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- Since I am completely external to this dispute I simply wanted to point out to you that 6 reverts are completely unacceptable. There is simply no exemption for your reverts and no excuse. You should know better than that. That's all. As far as who is right or wrong, I have no idea. My only motivation was to stop this edit-war. That is why I warned all parties to the dispute. I did not take any sides. My revert of your edit was based on the fact that your version was strongly disputed and that you did so many reverts that if that version stood it would a reward editing tactics favouring edit-warring, something that should always be avoided in favour of talkpage discussion. Dr. K. 19:48, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
- "As far as who is right or wrong, I have no idea." I am still uninvolved and wish to remain so, so I will not participate in the talkpage discussion so that I can remain uninvolved. Consider that I could easily have reported you at the 3RR noticeboard but I chose not to do so. Given your block log that could easily have resulted in a long block. Consider this a favour and we are even. Dr. K. 20:20, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:52, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your hard work against the IP Vandal tonight!!! -- Dane2007 talk 06:15, 24 November 2016 (UTC) |
- Thank you very much Dane2007 for the nice barnstar. It was the least I could do to help a few friends and colleagues. :) Take care. Dr. K. 06:17, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Happy Thanksgiving
Hi Dr.K, I don't know where you are located, but it's Thanksgiving day in the U.S. and I just want to drop by to wish you and your loved ones a happy day. You are one of the Wikipedia friends that I've met and always truly respect. Thanks for everything.--TerryAlex (talk) 17:49, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Terry. Happy Thanksgiving to you! I know the celebration is a very significant one in your country. I also know it is celebrated in Canada, but at a different date. You know, Canucks always like doing things in a slightly weird way - at least from a US-based viewpoint. :) Thank you for your kind words which I fully reciprocate. I always enjoy talking to you and seeing your great work around the 'pedia, especially in the K-pop area. :) Take care. Dr. K. 21:39, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Adding Sth in TP of Ali Khamenei
Hi, I left here something to add.--m,sharaf (talk) 23:38, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Unsourced
Sir may be you misunderstood my good faith edits. AksheKumar (talk) 05:55, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
- No I didn't. Please stop using that unreliable source in so many articles. Dr. K. 05:57, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks AksheKumar (talk) 06:34, 4 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for adding a better source with this edit. What "greenbelt" are you referring to? There's no other mention of a greenbelt in the article. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:38, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Isn't the Greenbelt act enough information about the Greenbelt? As in "Bill 135, Greenbelt Act" which is the reference I added. Dr. K. 03:43, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I reverted an edit with the edit summary "What greenbelt? What is this place protected from?" Then you reverted my edit. So, what greenbelt? There's one mention of a greenbelt in the entire article, and it's in the sentence you reverted. Could you please add some detail to your edit so it has some context. Also, what is Cherrywood protected from? I'm not trying to be difficult, it's just that I edit a lot of small communities and I've never encountered one that is "protected". Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:47, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Can you please read the reference I added? That would speed things up. Dr. K. 03:50, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'd prefer if you could address the issues that led me to remove the edit, and you to revert it. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:54, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Can you please read the reference I added? That would speed things up. Dr. K. 03:50, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'd prefer if you read my reference so that you find out what the Greenbelt is instead of asking me what it is. I have no time for tutorials. Dr. K. 03:58, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I know what a greenbelt is, and I know what this place is protected from. But you didn't add that edit to the article just for me; you added it for the readers of Wikipedia, who will likely be scratching their head wondering "what greenbelt" and "what is this place protected from"? I've added a tag to the sentence. If I have time tomorrow I will expand the edit and remove the tag. Magnolia677 (talk) 04:06, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- I'd prefer if you read my reference so that you find out what the Greenbelt is instead of asking me what it is. I have no time for tutorials. Dr. K. 03:58, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Well, I added the reference to it. Any interested reader could read it and find out what it is about. I did my encyclopaedic duty per WP:RS, and WP:V by Googling and finding the sources to support that statement, instead of wholesale reverting it, as you did. I think restoring it with RS is more constructive than deleting it without bothering to look for a source. After I restored it, you could have used my RS to further elaborate on it in the article, instead of wasting both of our times in this conversation. Dr. K. 04:16, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Dr. K., I was just going to pop on here and thank you for your patience (and research, edits) when, scrolling down, your Barnstar above caught my eye, regarding your work on the July 15, 2016 attempted Turkish Coup article.... Wow...my wife and I had an unplanned 36 hours in Istanbul's airport July 15-16 this year, with gunfire, fighter jets (breaking the sound barrier) repeatedly buzzing the airport (roof tiles, windows breaking), and several stampedes of ~1000 people inside...not to mention the tanks, etc. outside. Scary, but met some nice, nice people. Looks like from those great pictures on your page (we kayak a lot) that you get over to that neck of the woods on occasion (we've been to Corfu too, but on a low, low budget!!) Best wishes. DLinth (talk) 21:24, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi DLinth. Nice to see you here. Thank you also for you kind words and for your edits which helped improve the Lake Maracaibo article. I'm glad that you and your wife were unharmed after that Istanbul ordeal. I watched the events on TV and it was quite disturbing to see the violence enveloping the country, and especially Istanbul, during that night. I can only imagine how it would have felt to be in the middle of all this.
- It is remarkable we both like kayaking and we have also been to Corfu. If these coincidences continue, we may end up one day in Corfu, kayaking perhaps, or sightseeing. Who knows? :) Best regards. Dr. K. 01:05, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
The latest SPI about Albania came back negative. Nonetheless there is an air of sock editing on that article. Do you believe there could be a case for Extended Confirmed Protection on Albania and maybe a couple of other articles? EdJohnston (talk) 16:17, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Ed: Hi Ed. Thanks for asking. Definitely, I agree with you about sock disruption at Albania, Tirana, Tourism in Albania and other articles. I guess, the last SPI was one of the outliers expected once in a while in statistical analysis. I don't think I have ever seen such a DUCK match not being confirmed by CU. Given the amount of longterm sock disruption in these articles, I think trying ECP would definitely help. The main sock targets have been Albania, Tirana, and Tourism in Albania. So I think these should be protected first. Dr. K. 18:14, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Greetings
Let me wish you a Merry Christmas a bit early, as a way also to let you know I seem to be finding myself doing a bit more editing recently. I hope you are well, and look forward again to finding you in this vicinity.
Καλά Χριστούγεννα! Evensteven (talk) 09:02, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- My dear friend Steven. How are you? I hope everything is well with you and yours. It is always a great pleasure talking to you. I am very glad to see you continuing your great work in this place. Experts like yourself are needed to improve the scholaship of articles on any subject, especially those in the POV-ridden religious topics.
- Merry Christmas to you too. And since you mentioned the Greek greeting, Καλά Χριστούγεννα to you also. :) Take care. Dr. K. 18:36, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Timex Expedition WS4
This is a watch that happends to display many things, including weather data. Therefore it has nothing to do in the category Meteorology. It belongs at best in the Category:Meteorological instrumentation and equipment. Pierre cb (talk) 18:04, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- You cannot consider that extrapolation of temperature and pressure at one point is a weather forecast system. This is essentially an instrument like a barometer and a thermometer. Pierre cb (talk) 13:48, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
- To "forecast" means to predict. It aggregates the weather data and predicts the weather using weather icons. This is a weather forecasting instrument. It may not be as sophisticated as the industrial versions but that is neither here nor there. There is no requirement that a weather forecasting system has to be of one type of sophistication or another. Just that it has a prediction function. And that it does have. N0n3up again
You've helped the above out before now so it might be useful for you to have a chat with him about [this misuse of an RfC] which includes at least one personal attack, not to mention this accusation of trolling followed by this, persisting after he had been told not to post on the talk page. I can see he wants to make a contribution but this is a reversion to the behaviour that got him into trouble before. ----Snowded TALK 05:42, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I hope that you're doin' good... I got to see the Blockheads perform on Saturday at Band on the Wall... And got to meet Derek Hussey, Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, Mick Gallagher, and Gilad Atzmon... Derek was very nice, and talkative... Chaz was a very lovely, and down-to-earth man, and I even sort of sang his song "Little Eva" with him, he mingled with the crowd after the show, but most people didn't know who he was!!.. Norman was a wonderful man... He could tell stories forever, and called me "amazing" because I knew his discography better than himself haha, Mick seemed ok, but I didn't get good vibes from Gilad... Oh, and I've done some edits to the Chaz article... Maybe check over them? Unless someone beats you to it haha. All the best, Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 08:19, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Dr.K: where should I report this? Sock puppet and Neutrality problem
Good evening, @User:Dr.K: I am adding this note here since you were involved with the blocking of User:Igaalbania and I don't know where exactly I should be reporting this situation.
i.e. User:Igaalbania got this note: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Igaalbania#Sockpuppet_investigation
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 year--Ymblanter (talk) 20:07, 19 November 2016 (UTC) for abuse of editing privileges. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may request an unblock by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: User talk:Iaof2017 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Well, I wonder if there is now a new sock puppet, User:Iaof2017 (Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact title. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:Iaof2017.) He does however have a Talk page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Iaof2017 which includes this note:
Multi-user icon An editor has expressed a concern that this account may be a sock puppet of Igaalbania (talk · contribs · logs).
I mention this because I did some edits on the Albania article, including some comments from the European Union that the country will not be admitted until it cleans up its problems. That was quickly reverted by User:Iaof2017 ... who also happens to be the user that has done most of the edit on Abania since December 2016.
Aside from that, there are real problems with neutrality WP:NPOV in the Albania article as I pointed out in friendly note on the Talk page of that article. It almost sounds like much of the content was written by someone working for the Albanian government.
Peter K Burian (talk) 22:54, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- Correction re: neutral POV. I now see that the content I had added about the European Union, and the problems identified by Forbes and the International Monetary Fund are included in the article. User Iaof2017 deleted them but then added them back in different parts of the article. He did delete the mention of the problems identified by the EU in the lede that I had added, but such is life. So, overall, I cannot complain since much of the cited content I had added is in the article now. However, much of the content of the article sounds like it was written by a PR Agency for the government of Albania. Peter K Burian (talk) 23:32, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Peter. I know. The basic MO of this user is shuffling large amounts of pictures and text all over the place. Most of the text sounds highly promotional and reads like an advertising brochure. The problem is, I can't find where the text comes from. It sounds professional, but my search did not produce any source external to Wikipedia. I have opened an SPI on this user based on similarities with sockmaster Igaalbania, but the SPI determined that the likelihood of this user being a sock was low. I have also asked an admin friend of mine to check into this user but, apart from protecting pages, there is not much he can do. Based on these results I have given up trying to clean up after this editor. However, if you think that the material is promotional, you can try to delete it. If edit-warring ensues, perhaps this user can be reported at 3RRN. The problem is, that due to the great amount of edits and shuffling this user produces it is very hard to even know if he is edit-warring, as you also have witnessed. Aside from a topic-ban, I can't see any long-term solution to this problem. But that requires going to AN or ANI, so it may be a bit problematic. Dr. K. 03:20, 10 February 2017 (UTC)
