Unspecified source for Image:Sayonarazetsubosensei.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Sayonarazetsubosensei.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 21:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 21:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Lilia and Trais

You're right, I had mistaken. It is not clear whether the novel was completed. However, on second thought, I have doubts about the propriety of putting "ongoing" to the infobox. It is sure that the story "Watashi no Ouji-sama" was completed, and the author said that there was no plan for publishing next volume in volume six. Is it better to put "ongoing" to the infobox? Aren't there good ideas?--Swind 11:04, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Haruhi Suzumiya Translations

I can appreciate the fact that I did attempt to post links on the various pages of the light novel articles that would not be considered legal. However, I think it is in the interest of giving readers access to the materials that some translation be available. No licensed English translation of the novels do exist at the present, which could even then raise the question of why the articles exist in the first place. Please reconsider or at least provide a better rationale. Thank you... Ode2joy 21:36, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

On point 2: At WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided on point 12, it states: Links to open wikis, except those with a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors. I do not believe the wiki you linked to satisfied this, so I removed it. As for #3, at WP:EMBED, it states that prose should always be used opposed to just listing things, and the fact that all that was listed were dates and ISBN numbers makes them less useful than, let's say, a list of useful links. And then if this article were to ever go to WP:GA, all lists would have to be converted into prose or removed (excluding references and external links of course).-- 04:08, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Very few series have articles that just list the manga volumes, and if you did, you'd have to populate it with a lot more information, such as volume summaries, chapter names, and not to mention references. As for the wiki, it may be useful, but in terms of adding additional information that could not be listed in the article, I think it fails. It is after all a Japanese fansite on an English wikipedia. If it was linked on the Japanese wiki page, then it's probably more use to them than it could be to us.
But back to the manga. Yes, the source material should always be the top priority in an article on a fictional piece, but in terms of raw information and availability, the anime proves to be easier to gain and take information out of, especially for a manga that's never been translated into English. I don't see why listing when the nine volumes came out in Japan as a relavant piece of information to the article as a whole, since it as you said, just a list of boring numbers without any extra information, and not even referenced to boot. And I'm talking about good articles and featured articles here; you will be hard pressed to find a GA or FA with a list of ISBNs and when the manga were published, thus they should not be added for being extra information that could deter any article to promoting to GA or FA.-- 05:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Sayonarazetsubosensei.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Sayonarazetsubosensei.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:01, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

For some reason I thought that Dengeki Bunko was used for manga instead of light novels when I made that edit; I guess I'm just tired...Thanks for correcting me.-- 01:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Edit conflicts happen from time to time... especially when three editors are working on an article. In fact, just before I published my edits to the infobox, Random556 did some edits and I had to start all over again. I just copy-pasted the whole article, including the new infobox... that's what undid your fixes. I'll be more careful next time.--Nohansen 14:49, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Looks like you haven't been around much recently, but it would be nice to get the third novel article up to at least a Start status before the new books start coming out. Anything I can do to help? Doceirias 19:43, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I have been waiting for my copy of this book to arrive all this time; for whatever reason, that was the only book I was unable to source locally, so I had to mess around with importing it. I expect it to arrive in the next week or two, at which point I shall finally be able to get stuck into the article. I had originally hoped to do it within a month of the release date ;) Elric of Grans 09:59, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Seikai no dansho.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Seikai no dansho.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:29, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Light novel source

Sorry to chop all that back out, but that source was just not reliable. Most of the statements you added were pretty far off the mark. Blogs are generally not considered a good reference, unless they have the credentials required, and being a massive Yuri fan doesn't really qualify her. Glad that poorly researched mess didn't end up in the Manga guide it was written for, since she clearly doesn't have any first hand familiarity with the topic. Doceirias 21:51, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Could you please provide a reference that you consider to be reliable that contradicts and clarifies the points of the source I provided rather than chopping everything out? -Malkinann 21:48, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Death Note

I requested page protection, too much ip vandalism there. And I have a question about the series: does the person die if only their first name is written in the notebook? I think the pilot made this clearer but I'm not sure about the manga itself. Would you know? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 00:40, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe it was established that it needs to be the full name, spelled correctly and with the right kanji. Doceirias 00:41, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Interesting. I could not find a WP:SOURCE to back this up, been wanting to specify this on the article for some time. If there an official website or something that confirms this? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 00:59, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
It might be in the How to Use guidebook, but it was definitely in the early scene where he kills the thug on the motorcycle. Doceirias 01:00, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry, what is the volume, chapter and/or page exactly? I have the manga in my computer and I'd like to confirm it, if possible. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 01:28, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Pre-Meiji Period: Use of Japanese era name in identifying disastrous events

Would you consider making a contribution to an exchange of views at either of the following:

As you may know, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disaster management came up with entirely reasonable guidelines for naming articles about earthquakes, fires, typhoons, etc. However, the <<year>><<place> <<event>> format leaves no opportunity for conventional nengō which have been used in Japan since the eighth century (701-1945) -- as in "the Great Fire of Meireki" (1657) or for "the Hōei eruption of Mount Fuji" (1707).

In a purely intellectual sense, I do look forward to discovering how this exchange of views will develop; but I also have an ulterior motive. I hope to learn something about how better to argue in favor of a non-standard exception to conventional, consensus-driven, and ordinarily helpful wiki-standards such as this one. In my view, there does need to be some modest variation in the conventional paradigms for historical terms which have evolved in non-Western cultures -- no less in Wikipedia than elsewhere. I'm persuaded that, at least in the context of Japanese history before the reign of Emperor Meiji (1868-1912), some non-standard variations seem essential; but I'm not sure how best to present my reasoning to those who don't already agree with me. I know these first steps are inevitably awkward; but there you have it.

The newly-created 1703 Genroku earthquake article pushed just the right buttons for me. Obviously, these are questions that I'd been pondering for some time; and this became a convenient opportunity to move forward in a process of building a new kind of evolving consensus. --Ooperhoofd (talk) 18:58, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Universal notability

"For our purposes, information about the article's subject cannot be non-notable at the English Wikipedia but notable at another language's Wikipedia" I think this discussion is getting away from the main point of that thread, so moving it here. I just can't comprehend this statement at all. The exact opposite - that every language would inherently have topics of no interest to people who don't speak that language - would seem to be true. So obviously so that I feel like I must be missing something. Feel free to just ignore, but if you feel up to explaining, I will attempt to comprehend. Doceirias (talk) 05:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

What you appear to be missing is that the English Wikipedia contains many articles about topics familiar to few native speakers/readers of English (which doesn't render them non-notable). If, for example, someone were to seek the deletion of Belarusian Republican Youth Union on the basis that the subject is notable only among residents of Belarus (most of whom are not native speakers/readers of English), he/she would fail. The subject is notable on the planet Earth (and therefore warrants an article here). And that happens to be a featured article, incidentally. —David Levy 07:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
That is a big point to miss. This all makes a lot more sense now. Thanks! That justification is one we often use on this project, since we do a lot of articles on books, authors, and shows that have not been released outside of Japan. We definitely wouldn't want to do anything to undermine that general principal.
I do wonder if you're not carrying it to a bit of an extreme, though. While allowing that any subject that is notable and one language must be notable in another, I think there is room for a variation in degree of coverage. A popular novel series that is only in Japanese might well be justified in having a page for each novel in the series and several of the main characters (assuming the usual requirements, sources, etc) but the coverage on the English wikipedia is more likely to be a single page on the series as a whole. I've never really had a problem with this variation. Thoughts? Doceirias (talk) 08:42, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
The phenomenon that you describe is a product of systemic bias, not a decision to limit the amount of coverage dedicated to non-English subjects. In other words, we might have only a single article (or even no article at all) about a popular non-English novel series simply because no one has written more than that here. If one or more editors wanted to (and could meet the usual requirements), that would be fine. The language barrier, unfortunately, renders this less likely to occur. —David Levy 13:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Really? But I'm sure that User:ChuChu has continuously cited Dengeki Bunko as a shōnen label. That aside, I own a single Dengeki Bunko light novel (Kashimashi), and there is some furigana in the text; not for every single kanji, but enough to make it seem like it's targeted towards a younger male demographic rather than the 18-35 seinen demographic which should already know all the kanji anyway. Oh, though I do have the first novel of Spice and Wolf scanned on my computer which includes the same density of furigana as in the Kashimashi light novel.-- 10:53, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. So should we use seinen for the light novel demographics, or just leave them out entirely?-- 02:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Tite Kubo

I noticed that the "lies" were re-placed and taken off. I say we bring back the controversy sections, which cleared up this mishap. This is particularly because I don't think sites like TV.com and BleachExile will be correcting the information in their pages any time soon. Please reply on your talk page or on Talk:Tite Kubo so we can get this solved. Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 05:43, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

It isn't a controversy, though; it's simply a bit of misinformation we can't get rid of. If it were being replaced frequently, it might be worth having a section like that for a while, but having to revert once a month frankly isn't that big a deal. Doceirias (talk) 06:54, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Maybe "controversy" is the wrong word. What would a more informal one be? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 15:25, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you removed all the links to "Spectrum Nexus" on the reception pages I added. I saw your comment about them being a "fan site" and that reviews were biased... well aren't all the reviews that I posted under reception biased? That's why I included many different reviews (from ANN, Anime on DVD, Anime TALK, and Spectrum Nexus). You mentioned that I posted a "negative" review... well sometimes not everyone finds things to be perfect. The page you wrote that on was Death Note; I've personally watched Death Note and I think Spectrum Nexus' review of it was pretty accurate... the series dragged on for 37 episodes. Other people reviewed it and liked it, but is it so wrong that another site out there doesn't agree? Isn't that the whole point of reviews? So people can read various opinions out there? It's the reason there's sites like RottenTomatoes and MetaCritic.

I've been reading Spectrum Nexus' reviews for a long time now, and they are by far the most in-depth anime reviews I've read on the Internet. Did you bother to read any of the reviews you deleted? They are very long and thorough and that's why I put them, but you've deleted my contributions. As for that site using alias', I've sent them an email saying they should put their real names, so we'll see if they make that change.

What is wrong with me posting good quality reviews under the reception sections? That Spectrum Nexus website has been online for years... at least 8 years old if not older. Their reviews, though some might be average/negative, are all justified within 2000 words or so. Fusiongt (talk) 05:05, 20 February 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Perlestellar (talkcontribs)

The above signature was slashed because it was actually made by Perlestellar. Regards, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 15:25, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm very puzzled why you're posting from a different account than the one you made the edits on - that can give people the wrong idea. Or wait, you posted this with your actual account and signed it with someone else? Just use four tildies, and sign it with your own account, please! I don't make the policies; fan sites without strict editorial control are not reliable sources; anyone can post anything. But that isn't why I removed all the links to the page; if you click the history tab, you can see the edit comments for those other pages, and if you look at the discussion I liked to on the talk page of your other account, you'll see why - namely, that page links to illegal translations and other copyright violations. Wikipedia bans users for linking to that sort of thing, so I would not advise putting any of that back. Additionally, while a table with scores is better than no reception, it would be better if you took the time to except a few useful quotes, as they give a more accurate picture of the reviewer's opinion. Doceirias (talk) 10:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Hellsing Trivia section

Rather than deleting the section, perhaps you should do like the guidelines recommend and integrate the trivia into the main article? It's so easy to delete, everyone does it, but usually the ones who do forget the guidelines recommend putting the info into the rest of an article rather than a seperate section. Nezu Chiza (talk) 18:15, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Rereading that guideline; may have been wrong to just delete, yeah. Didn't actually read the section, so I don't know if the trivia is worth keeping or not. Doceirias (talk) 19:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Re: Merger and ASCII Media Works

Now that the merger has gone through, I've been updating most of the pages immediately involved with the company; namely, anything in the template {{ASCII Media Works}}. However, I am unsure how to go on with the series articles with material published by MediaWorks. I've figured that series that have already ended their publication under MediaWorks, such as Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, should be kept the same, but I am not entirely sure what to do with ongoing series which will be now published by ASCII Media Works, such as Kino's Journey. For one, do we list both companies in the infobox? Do we mention in the prose that the first 11 books were published under MediaWorks and subsequent novels were published under ASCII Media Works? Dengeki Bunko is a publishing label, not a publisher. The publisher in the case of this label is MediaWorks. What I did was to add a publishing label field on the novel infobox (as requested on its talk page), in order to make the distinction between label and publisher clear. Thanks, among other things

Thanks for leaving a comment on the Planetes talk page regarding your reverting of my edit. I was going to leave a message here asking why you changed my contribution, but I am glad that I didn't. Also, I was wondering if you could direct me to any more hard science fiction anime. I watched Planetes because I grew bored of (among other things) mechas with teenage pilots and have fallen in love with its hard SF illustrations and intriguing plot. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any more hard science fiction anime and was wondering if you knew of any. Thanks again --SharkfaceT/C 07:14, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Planetes is pretty dang unique in that regard. (I actually couldn't stand the anime, which took the organic, natural romance in the manga and changed it into a cliche anime they love each other but they don't know it romantic comedy.)
I would probably start with Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost Hound, and Crest of the Stars; none of them are quite what you're looking for, but they're all a bit more mature than the usual run of things. Kaiba just started, and is amazing. Moonlight Mile is probably closer to what you're looking for, but I ended up disappointed in it. Doceirias (talk) 19:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
I have Serial Experiments Lain and Ghost Hound in my queue. I know that the Ghost in the Shell series (both runs) was almost hard science fiction, but my interest is more in space development than crime fighting (although I love Tachikomas). I really think Planetes is the only hard science fiction anime with space development, which is saddening. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'll check out those other series too (although I won't view Kaiba until after it finishes). --SharkfaceT/C 01:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Gosick

I saw your name in the Gosick light novel... thought that was pretty cool because i'm working with you on the SQ. page. I want to read Gosick now, is it good? So where did the name Doceirias come from, Andrew? – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 15:02, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm a pretty big fan of the Gosick novels, and all the novels I'm doing. I certainly hope they find an audience. The origins of my nickname are lost in time. Doceirias (talk) 19:07, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Do you work for TOKYOPOP? – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:06, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
No, I'm freelance. Tokyopop just happens to have given me a lot of work; these days, I'm doing almost as much for Del Rey. Doceirias (talk) 00:39, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah, have you ever met Kazuki Sakuraba? – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 20:03, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Never met anyone, no. 20:03, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
What other books have been published under the Gosick series? – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 21:47, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Only the one in English; volume two is out in October. Gosick has a list of the rest. Doceirias (talk) 21:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll make the list in English too, maybe that might be a good idea since this is the English Wikipedia. Are you still gonna help on the Jump SQ. page, the GA rating is gone, it shouldn't have got one in the first place. But we can still work on it. – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 19:05, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
I've been meaning to fix that for ages, never found the time. I'm still watching the page, and when I have time, I'll help out a bit. Doceirias (talk) 20:28, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
What page are you watching? You could be reffering to either Jump SQ. or Gosick. – 「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 00:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Jump Square. Doceirias (talk) 00:42, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I think you might have noticed this, but I just made a new Shueisha template! I think it looks great! Suttle huh?: Template:Shueisha「JUMPGURU」@Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 16:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
I can't recommend puke green as color for anything; try making it retractable, without an image, without links to the Japanese wikipedia, and following the look of other templates on Wikipedia. As it is, the thing will be AfDed in no time. Doceirias (talk) 20:03, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I asked User:Collectonian about the appropriateness of adding occult detective to that article and she couldn't come up with an answer. Can you leave a response at Talk:YuYu Hakusho#Genres or would you rather reply on your talk page? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 07:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I've gone a little nuts and hacked the heck out of the Jump Square article to try to beat it more inline with a proper magazine article. I cut out a lot of stuff, cleaned up more, rearranged etc. Since you're familiar with the earlier version, I wanted to see what you thought so far? Is it an improvement? Are you horrified? I tried to base it on the work I did with Shojo Beat, which I based around the format and structure of featured magazine articles. Quite a bit of it still needs sourcing, and the sources that are there also need checked. It seems Jump Guru doesn't quite understand how referencing works, and he frequently just added a link to the official site's main page as a ref, or to a page that didn't really support anything. :( -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:26, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Basically what I knew you'd do and what I thought needed to be done before we could seriously get the page up to GA quality. Why I pointed you there. Doceirias (talk) 00:34, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
LOL, thanks (I think) ;) The one issue now, I think, is sourcing. Going through Japanese websites is rather a pain, but the English sources aren't including basic info like circulation numbers and the like beyond the first issue. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:40, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Since you are the one who originally translated the title, I figured it's best to consult you. Since the original OVA was basically named after The Day the Earth Stood Still, do you think The Day the Earth Caught Fire would be a better or worse translation for the manga title? It seems possible that Imagawa named the new series after another "classic" sci-fi movie.--Nohansen (talk) 17:51, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

I think it's a definitely possibility...but I just happen to think Burned sounds better. Doceirias (talk) 19:21, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Heh, whoops

I just wanted to say: this edit summary is not a dig at you. ^_^;; I assumed that paragraph had been there a long time without being noticed, which in retrospect was pretty foolish of me. Sorry about that! --Masamage 23:45, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

No, you are perfectly right, it was a sloppy cut and paste. Doceirias (talk) 23:56, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Tite Kubo (revisited)

Think I found a source that suggests Bleach was in fact rejected at first for being similar to Togashi's YuYu Hakusho. See link. Not sure if it's a reliable one though. What do you think? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 21:47, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Doc, is there some reason as to why you're not responding? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:55, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Didn't notice there were two comments in one day. That source doesn't mention his source; I imagine it was the same lies we had here earlier, since not a word of it is different. It does not appear to be attributed to the interview with Tite himself. Doceirias (talk) 23:10, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
I also wrote the author of the article an email, trying to get clarification on his source. Doceirias (talk) 23:17, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
He's confirmed that he got it from Wikipedia and other similar articles. Doceirias (talk) 01:59, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Tessaiga

Popular in usage: irrelevant, like any other alternate name. Difference between official and alternative names is worth noting in the lead, but not worth having a section for. This one is a really common argument, which is why people might come across as dismissive of it, or not bothering to refute it; the guidelines address it directly.

You imply that I'm ignorant of common knowledge, and without backing it up with a direct reference. On Wikipedia, that kind of behavior can make people defensive, so don't do it. --Raijinili (talk) 01:27, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
You appear to be misunderstanding basic things about how Wikipedia works, and if you stop being easily insulted and learn when people correct you, you'll end up getting a lot more accomplished here. I'm not trying to piss you off; I'm just trying to explain my understanding of how things work here. Doceirias (talk) 18:37, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
It's not about me being easily insulted. It's about your behavior, in particular, as being overly aggressive for a Wikipedia editor. A person on the other side of an argument should not be treated as an enemy, but as a fellow collaborator. Too many people would get angry and start flaming people, so I'm suggesting that you tone it down. In the future, if not in this discussion.
As for misunderstanding basic things about Wikipedia, you really have to explain yourself better. When you make a claim like that, back it up with references to policy pages and such. This is a very important part of reasoned debate. --Raijinili (talk) 15:19, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
If you cite the pages, you sound like you're Wikilawyering, which personally pisses me off. I tend to prefer to explain things in my own words. Honestly, I did try and figure out a less blunt word than irrelevant, but sometimes a spade is a spade. There's nothing in the rest of it that is treating anyone like an enemy. I think you have to be rather frighteningly touchy to take it as such. Doceirias (talk) 18:44, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
No, I just have more respect towards reasoned, constructive debate than the vast majority of people. If you don't cite the page, it makes it hard for me to respond, so it's like you're assuming you're definitely right and thus letting me respond isn't necessary. Wikilawyering is about being pedantic to the point of twisting the original intent, not about backing up your claims. --Raijinili (talk) 20:53, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Why are you still up? I'm a chronic insomniac who neglected to take my medication. What's your excuse? Are you as insane as I am, or do you happen to live in some distant place around the world that doesn't respect good time zones, like Canadia or some nonsense?

Something else I wanted to apologize for is the first sentence of the previous comment on this page. I thought about it before posting it and concluded that it wasn't too arrogant, but now I don't agree. Makes it sound like you don't have respect for good debate in comparison.
You've been a pretty good opponent, and I've learned a lot about WP policy and debate from the argument. --Raijinili (talk) 08:29, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
Live in Seattle, self-employed - 3AM PDT is my usual bed time. Doceirias (talk) 18:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Interesting typo...

Not that this has *any* bearing on Wikipedia whatsoever, I recently got my hands on Parasyte volume 1 (the Del Rey edition, of course ;) ), and was glancing at the copyright page for obscure reasons (^_^) when I noticed on the line "Translator/adapter:", Translator is misspelled as Translatorl. Not that this is relevant to absolutely anything, but I got a bit of a kick out of it when I saw it, and I thought you might as well. —Dinoguy1000 20:43, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

As long as they get my name right. (Tokyopop spelled my name wrong in the credits for Gosick.) Doceirias (talk) 01:24, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
That sounds like something they'd do... (sorry, didn't notice your reply till just now =P ) —Dinoguy1000 16:37, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: this edit summary

He's not a minor manga artist. He's likely one of the most well known manga artists in Japan, but his works are not known much outside of Japan as he tends to offer a lot of political commentary and addressing of issues within Japan. His most famous work outside of Japan was made into a Studio Ghibli movie: My Neighbor the Yamadas. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:37, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Right, by minor I simply meant importance=low, which is almost everyone. Doceirias (talk) 12:20, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Ophiuchus

Can I ask in what novel you saw the reference to Ophiuchus? I'm trying to research how widespread the "wavy line over U" Ophiuchus symbol is (I've seen it in Final Fantasy Tactics and in Code Geass merchandise art). DenisMoskowitz (talk) 18:09, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I have no idea what you're talking about. Doceirias (talk) 18:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Ah, very sorry. A year ago you left this comment in Talk:Sidereal astrology:
Well, that's the information I came here looking for. I only found this page because a thirteen zodiac system was briefly very popular in Japan, apparently, and I found a reference to it in a novel that puzzled me. I vote it stays, or gets a page of its own with a link from this page... Doceirias 08:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I'm interested in the Japanese 13-sign zodiac but haven't had much luck finding English-language information, so I was curious what novel you had seen the reference in. DenisMoskowitz (talk) 03:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
From the date, I'm assuming it was Missing (light novels), which I was translating at the time. I've also seen it mentioned in the works of Riichi Ueshiba. It could have been something else, though; too long ago. Doceirias (talk) 03:43, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks - that at least gives me something to work with. DenisMoskowitz (talk) 20:23, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Re shonen: what demographic then is the all-ages version aimed at? --Gwern (contribs) 18:57 11 October 2008 (GMT)

Did it run in a shonen magazine? No. Therefore demographic terms do not apply. It's a doujin; not a shonen manga. Doceirias (talk) 02:44, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Mixx names for Parasyte

You said: "(I believe this was actually discussed on the talk page, and we decided the Mixx names weren't notable.) (undo)"

Doceirias, I cannot find this discussion on the talk page. I'll restore them soon. WhisperToMe (talk) 23:14, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

No discussion is not actually a reason to restore them. It simply means we need to have that discussion. Doceirias (talk) 01:22, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
In that case, I started one :) WhisperToMe (talk) 05:07, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Kubo

Andrew, thanks for keeping a clear head in the discussion. Not that I expect anything else from you, though I didn't realize Doceirias was you until I checked your page right now. I didn't know you were involved with Wikipedia, but it doesn't surprise me. I, obviously, have found it necessary to take lengthy breaks from Wikipedia editing; otherwise I would have checked the article a few months ago. (And yes, I'm still working as a rewriter, though not for any Viz books.) —pfahlstrom (talk) 06:18, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure how much longer I can keep a cool head, sadly; was hoping for more support from the bigger boards, but they seem to be equally divided. Probably not a good sign for Wikipedia's future. I'd been editing less and less myself, mostly because I seemed to spend less time on useful work and more on really infuriating discussions. Doceirias (talk) 06:43, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
I absolutely understand. —pfahlstrom (talk) 21:44, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Guardian series

I removed the WP:ANIME banner because the anime adaptation is not covered in Guardian series; which means the article doesn't really fall within the Project's scope. His Dark Materials, for example, is not tagged as a WP:FILM article just because the first book was adapted into a movie. And neither is Northern Lights, for that matter.

But since the article on Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit does cover the anime adaptation, that is where the banner belongs.--Nohansen (talk) 03:39, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

We regularly cover the source novels as well as the anime; I can see the Novels banner in addition to, but we're the most likely group to work on the page. They may not technically be light novels, which we do officially cover, but the distinction is pretty null once something gets adapted. Doceirias (talk) 04:42, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Ranma ½ Japanese volumes

Hey Doceirias, I was wondering if you might either have access to the original Japanese Ranma ½ volumes, or know someone else who does. I've been wanting to work on a chapter list for the series for some time now, but in translation, Viz compressed the series from its original 38-volume length to 36 volumes, and didn't release the series with the original number of volumes even in a second edition. As a result, I've been hesitant to create the list, since I don't know what chapters were in what volumes in the Japanese version. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 18:55, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks to User:Dandy Sephy, I got ahold of the chapter layout for the Japanese version... but if you (or someone you know) can provide the kanji chapter titles as well, I'd still greatly appreciate it. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:40, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't have that one. Doceirias (talk) 02:39, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
That's fine, you wouldn't happen to know anyone who does, would you? *still holding out hope* ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 17:03, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Nope. Doceirias (talk) 19:52, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Talkin

Hi Docirias, what's up? Haven't heard from you in a while. I've just been working on Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga, a recently got it up to a B-class. A real B-class that is, not the fake Jump SQ. one (thinking about recreating that page). I've been doing well lately. ^_^ Any new translations? I've become a fan of your work. – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 18:08, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm starting a new job at Nintendo, so Goth and the Jiken series may be my last translations in this business. Doceirias (talk) 21:56, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Cool, what are you going to be doing at Nintendō? Translating the games, or doing graphics n' stuff? – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 01:40, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Six month contract, translating one particular game. Should make it easier to find work in that industry, though. Doceirias (talk) 02:07, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
And if you don't mind my asking, is there some story or meaning behind your username? It just struck me, I have no idea what "doceirias" might mean (it doesn't sound Japanese, though, so I'm guessing it's not related to anything strictly Japanese...?). ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 02:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Eirias is from The Dark is Rising series; used it as my first email way back when, on the theory that emails with numbers were lame and this was obscure. But it was already taken when I moved to free emails, so I added doc, which is my actual nickname. I'd probably use Zerozaki Ishiki for anything like that now. Doceirias (talk) 02:07, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
That's weird, last time when I asked what your name meant, you said, "The origins of my nickname are lost in time". – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 02:38, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I seem to remember you asking someone that, but are you sure it was Doceirias you asked it of? @Doceirias: does that mean that technically, your nick would be pronounced doc-eirias (rather than do-seirias, which is how it always sounds in my head)? ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 02:45, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I was probably just feeling crotchety. Sort of a boring explanation, anyway. But yeah, Doc Eirias. However you want to pronounce the latter. Doceirias (talk) 02:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes I asked Doceirias the question Dinoguy. How funny!, it always sounded as "do-seirias" in my head too. Any new manga Doceirias (pronounced "doc - erias")? – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 03:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Certainly not that I'm translating. But if you just mean in general? Only new thing I've really jumped on recently is Moonlight Act, Kazuhiro Fujita's new book. In English, Me and the Devil Blues is amazing, and Viz is coming out with Children of the Sea in a few months. Doceirias (talk) 03:15, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Are you still working on Parasyte for Del Rey, or have you already finished it, or did you just drop it? I've read the first four volumes (of your translation, of course ;) [/suckup]), and I'm really itching to finish it out. ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 18:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I did the whole series, but I was done before the first volume even came out. It seems to have done well enough that they sped the releases up a bit. But I never really got much manga work, just that and Record of a Fallen Vampire. Doceirias (talk) 19:04, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Whoa, really? Is that actually how it works with most manga translation, then (doing lots of it well before the actual first release)? ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:21, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
It varies; Del Rey had me do a volume a month until it was done, and the releases were originally bimonthly. Then they changed to every six months for some reason, and slowly got faster. Viz seems to be spacing things out more, but I'm still translating volume seven of Record of a Fallen Vampire now; the actual releases are only on volume four. I think. The novels were a year to six months ahead of schedule, and something like half the novels I translated will never be published. Grr. Doceirias (talk) 20:24, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Interesting. Did you ever get to choose what you wanted to translate, or was it just them handing you a series and saying, "get to it"? (and I take it most of those "will-never-be-published" are ones you did for TP, right?) (sorry for the sudden torrent of questions, but my curiosity's been piqued... ^_^;; ) ダイノガイ?!」(Dinoguy1000) 20:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Let's unindent shit. TP and Seven Seas. I get to turn down jobs; not so much with requesting them. But with projects like Faust I got first pass at which stories I was translating. Didn't always have time to do everything I wanted; missed out on the Zaregoto series because I was too busy working on Goth. Doceirias (talk) 20:41, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

You don't have to edit anything right? Y'know, to make it, "suitable for the younger audiance"? -_-¿ – J U M P G U R U ask㋐㋜㋗ 20:31, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I have to aim the language at the rating they're requesting, but that usually follows from the work. I initially argued for stronger language in Parasyte, but look at the finished work, I think they were right, and it works better without it. I get away with stuff occasionally, and have been surprised by language restrictions that seemed unusually harsh, but generally things match up with what you'd expect. Nothing like tearing a scene apart line by line to destroy the humor and suspense. The trick is more making sure it ends up in there when read at normal speed. Doceirias (talk) 21:17, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Shinya Suzuki

Per the results of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bari Haken, I've created the article about the author, Shinya Suzuki, and redirected Bari Haken to it per your comments. However, I still have reservations about whether the author is notable. Yet I'll give you a chance to prove me wrong. --Farix (Talk) 02:58, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I object to your proposed deletion of my page

Hello, I was pretty shocked to find someone had tagged my wiki page for the Karui Shosetsu Magazine for proposed deletion. Your reasons for deleting my page, in my opinion, are completely wrong. You listed that my wiki page was spam. I could not disagree more. The Karui Shosetsu Magazine is a legitamate magazine, the first ever english light novel magazine, publishing OEL light novels, and being published by the leading english light novel website. Our magazine was reported by Anime News Network and has been discussed all around the world on blogs, forums, and websites. Almost 1,000 people have downloaded the first issue and polls on the official website reveal a strong percentage will be downloading the magazine for the second issue. Even a japanese blog supported us for what we were doing! Wikipedia lists other magazines, even very obscure ones. This wikipedia entry does the same as other light novel magazine wiki entrys does. It gives the facts on a online magazine that is being published so that when someone wants to know what it is, they can read about it on wikipedia. I am not trying to advertise, I am simply having a place on wikipedia where people can get the facts on the magazine. Now, if you have something within the wiki page that you think needs to be changed in order for it to be acceptable, tell me. Otherwise, the page does not go against wiki policies and because I have disagreed with the deletion, according to wikipedia, the page cannot be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt122004 (talkcontribs) 05:03, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm not really sure how to reply to your comment on my user page and have you know you recieved a comment, so I'll reply again here.

I'd like to understand what you mean by self-published and a link to the wiki definition of it.

It is not too early to have a page exist. There are some manga that begin serializing, and with only a couple chapters (or just one) published in a magazine, they already have a small (but still existing) wiki entry.

You're right, you don't allow any COMPANIES to make a page. However, LightNovel.org is not a company, we are NOT commercial, and thus I see that this argument fails at an attempt to disqualify the wiki page's existance.

I also fail to understand why it matters that "I" made the page. Since LightNovel.org is not a company, and we are not commercial, and since the wiki article is simply a page containing facts regarding the publication, I again do not see the viable reasoning for having the page deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matt122004 (talkcontribs) 06:14, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Not to interrupt or anything (I just happened to come by this page while checking out the recent changes), but I beleive that the policy that Doceirias is referring to is Wikipedia:Conflict of Interests.--Sunny910910 (talk|Contributions|Guest) 06:28, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah! I should really be better about digging up the links to these policies when citing them. Doceirias (talk) 06:32, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Since there appears to be some confusion, I really think this needs to be cited. Since you claim to be a manga translator, which is it again: dess or desu? Please reply on your talk page, Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 22:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

The correct Japanese is desu; the note written by the copycat killer said dess. This IS already cited in the source article the entire section is based on, and anyone changing either doesn't know what sic means or is too lazy to read the damn source. Doceirias (talk) 23:05, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Huh. Can you set up a hidden comment there? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 23:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I did; hopefully it will help. Doceirias (talk) 00:22, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Constant Vandalisms

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Vandalism is a serious infringement on Wikipedia and can result in bannings. Mischaraterisation of musics, just because you wish to make bands more different, 'indie' and alternative, just so they fit in with your hipsters funtime, is unaccectable vandalisms. Proper Genre charcterising to fit in with some movement of garage, when most of them fit with Pop, Rock, music and is widely known and reportable as such, and genre wise, is not alternative. If it makes you feel any better, i'll add some sources clarfyed that this is a ROck, Pop band, and as such, has resulted in some negative mainstream presses, by alternative critic types. Translation help

Hey Doceirias, would you mind translating "1968年10月(1969年1月号)から雑誌に連載開始。" for me? Google Translate gives "October 1968 (1 April 1969) started a series of magazine articles.", but I have my doubts. For some background, the line is from here, and I'm wanting to use it to confirm serialization start for Golgo 13 (the article says it started in January 1969, hence my doubts on the machine translation). Thanks in advance! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:23, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

The quote is about start of serialization; the issue number was January, 1969, but the issue actually came out in October of '68. We usually just go with the date on the cover, I believe. Doceirias (talk) 04:53, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Geobreeders.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Since you seem to be the only active user (I know of) working on Baccano!: do you recall if the black suits are called the Lumeres in the anime? ~Itzjustdrama ? C 00:56, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

They were called whatever they were called in the novels. Remureisu/Yuurei. (幽霊 with furigana that say レムレース). Remureisu->Lumeres is accurate, but I never turned on the subtitles to see what FUNimation's translators came up with. Doceirias (talk) 01:56, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Doceirias! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The article Wilderness (manga) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Search for Reliable third-party source turns up nothing. Fails both WP:NOTE and WP:BK.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Farix (t | c) 11:49, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Super Comics

Super Comics is a very small, independent comics company. You should work for them now if you just love to draw and/or write but if you want to get paid more work later. Super Comics has some popular titles in their own right such as Hell High (a former title), Hell Elementary (current title), and also X-Marx. What does this have to do with the titles we are speaking about in this article it's because some of these works are inspired by Soul Eater.
