The page restructuring looks great! And it's nice to see it continually improving and expanding, from the perspective of a second season newcomer. It's been helpful, to say the least. :) — ArkansasTraveler 14:45, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Regarding the status part of an 09er, you do have a point. However, Jackie was only ousted after the allegation about her father, and I still think she counts as an 09er because she lives in the 09er zip code. As for Veronica, I think that, while she was accepted by the 09ers, she wasn't truly on because she didn't live in the 90909 zip. --Radaar 23:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Wikimedia Canada
[edit]Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Pink Floyd
[edit]Thanks for your suggestions; I'll make more use of edit summaries in the future. The Floyd article seems really close to featured status, although there are still a few dead links and the post-Division Bell sections seem somewhat fragmented. —Preceding unsigned comment added by InTheFlesh? Pink Floyd pics
[edit]See Image:Phil Collins Against All Odds.jpg for an example. Anything under fair use needs to have a rationale for each article it's used in, using the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use#General. Unfortunately, without a way to credit the copyright owner, fair use is impossible. You could try e-mailing Rolling Stone to ask, but that could take a long time and might not work. Free pics, of course, would be ideal, but hard to find -- if you haven't already, see about doing a Creative Commons search at Flickr, looking for PD pics from the US government (try searching .mil sites, if they've played at USO shows or the like, a military photographer's work is PD). Citing articles
[edit]In general, the use of numbered external links throughout an article is now deprecated for Featured Articles for some technical reasons. The system that is starting to gain favor for citing long articles is the Cite.php system. Go there to see how it's implemented, it's very easy. The use of it can be seen on FAs like Dixie (song) and Krazy Kat. It entails the use of <ref></ref> tags around text to make it into a footnote. Basically one uses the Cite.php system by placing the <references/> tag under a section labeled "Notes" or "Footnotes" or something, including page numbers where appropriate, while the bibliography gets put in another section and can use Chicago style as you prefer. [edit]Well, I wasn't playing the game until now, never having heard about it. Now that I have, though, I have clearly lost as soon as I started playing. Thanks a lot! Dyslexic agnostic 22:19, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
Featured Article Candidate / Pink Floyd
[edit]Hey there -- I saw that there was a objection for your Pink Floyd article noting the long lead. I authored the Phil Collins article currently on FAC, and had a similiar comment in my current review. I have posted a note on the Wikipedia:Featured Music Project discussion page to possibly have the requirement of the lead decreased to 2-3 paragraphs, as per WP:Lead, instead of 2-4. Both your and my article are among the first to use the Featured Music Project critia (which I found quite helpful) and we're among the first to receive FAC comments based on them. Since we're both seeing comments about four paragraphs being too long, I think a change in the requirements might be helpful for future FAC candidates. --Ataricodfish 08:19, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- The examples at Wikipedia:Footnotes and all the articles and FAs I've ever seen that have refs have had the footnotes after the period (at least for those that I can remember), so I'd say go for the change. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:33, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- No problem; just make sure to note that you've fixed it on the nomination subpage and I'll note it when I go through all the nominations again. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:36, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply! I'll be sure to re-consider when I go through the FACs again. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:18, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- i reread the pink floyd article as soon as i saw your posting to me....it looks great...thanks for your hard work in revising....i cant find it among featured art nominees, so i have posted a note on the pink floyd talk page to state i support it for nomination. best regards Anlace 04:40, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- thanks for the link...ive reversed my vote...good luck...cheers Anlace 05:12, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. Unfortunately, I won't change any objections once the nomination is de-listed; if it's renominated, I will gladly re-read and re-consider. Thanks for your understanding! Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:03, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Just ask Raul; if he's missed your first message, try again. (There's a similar question that someone else asked him about.) Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:28, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, and congrats and good work! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:49, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
In your edit with the summary "moved AMLoR cover art to its section, it was stuck in the intro" here you did indeed move the picture, but you also deleted an entire section without explanation. I'll assume that was just a mistake and restore it. Savidan 02:12, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Stephen King
[edit]I have to say that i haven't read any of his books in a long time. Howver 'four past midnight sticks in my mind as being excellent. As for rubbish there's one with a clown that's actually an alien that wakes up every now and then to eat people? i forget the name - could have been a good book but waaaaaaaaay too long. Actually a lot of stephen king novels are too long IMO. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 10:47, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Floyd
[edit]Hi Dharma,
Just wanted to say that I appreciate the work you have put into the Pink Floyd article... there is so much misinformation about this band that permeates the internet, and it's nice to have a few people out there looking to set the record straight when it comes to fact versus myth.
Thanks, Abhi Taranath abhi@pinkfloyddiscography.com

Let me second that; you definitely put a lot of work into improving and trimming the article. It's been great working with you. on this. InTheFlesh? 23:36, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm with these guys. You got some criticism, then you just jumped right in. You covered pretty much everything that was said, excellent job. A featured article well-deserved. By the way, ever thought about being an admin? ♠ SG →Talk 06:53, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
This article is supposed to be about the Earls Court October 20 1994 concert that was broadcast on TV, right? I have it, so (if it is) I can fill the article with as much detail as needed. Just confirm me if that it's the same concert we're talking about, and I'll put my hands into it. —Rotring 12:53, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, you were right. I corrected it, but I left the female singers out, since they only do the "aaaah" — which is a backing vocal, and that's already what they're supposed to do. ;) —Rotring 16:57, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
more Floyd, congrats
[edit]No prob on the "supposedly" of mine you deleted. I wasn't so much doubting you as hedging a statement which, though true today, could easily become false tomorrow.
If you're the guy with all the refs, here's a question. In the cleanups I just did, I wanted to put quotes around "tired and formulaic" in the sentence that says The Division Bell was "still heavily criticised as tired and formulaic", but I don't know if that's a direct quote.
Finally, if you're the guy who's been working so hard on this article (and I'm guessing you are!), let me add my thanks. As I was reading it, I was thinking, "This is great! It ought to be a featured article." And then I noticed that it had been. Excellent work. Steve Summit (talk) 21:12, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
You're absolutely right, they don't always serve a purpose, and you're right, if you only stick to Pink Floyd then your political leaning is probably of no importance. I'm not trying to push userboxes on everyone - I've only got Babel and The Game (sorry), myself - my point is, I'm not sure there really as destructive as some people are making them out to be. I agree that the boxes aren't going to make the project fall apart; the danger lies in the issue becoming too much of an issue. And my problem is that recently (New Years, Pedophilia userbox wheel-warring), it's been becoming too much of an issue.
Oh well. We'll see where it goes. In any case, thanks for taking the time to read it and comment on it, and congratulations on the Floyd FAC.--jfg284 you were saying? 11:41, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

FMP
[edit]Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Wikipedia:Featured Music Project by signing up on the status page. What you'd do is sign up for one (or more) of eight categories, such as the discography or lead section. No more than once a month, you'd be given an article which is getting close to being ready for WP:FAC, and is only deficient in a few categories. You'd do what you can in your section (and, of course, anything else you like). If a couple of people specialize in each category, we should be able to take some concrete steps towards improvement on a wide range of articles. In addition, you can sign up as a "shepherd" to take articles that meet all the criteria through a peer review and (hopefully) successful candidacy. Tuf-Kat 04:07, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Featured Music Project
[edit]Hello, this is a request from the Featured Music Project. You have been assigned to work on Marvin Gaye, with the goal of making it meet the criteria in the Audio category. Once you have finished, please update the artist subpage. There is no formal review process, so if you believe you have improved the article to meet all the Audio criteria, simply remove that category from the subpage and update the article's entry on the status page. Do not update the revision id unless you have evaluated the article on each criterion. If you are not sure that your efforts are adequate to meet all the necessary criteria, you may ask for guidance on the article talk page and/or the FMP talk page. Of course, this assignment is not obligatory and there will be no repercussions if you do not complete it -- if you know you will not be able to do so, please leave a note at the FMP talk page so that another person can receive the assignment. Though there is no deadline, please aim to finish the assignment within thirty days of receiving this notice; at that time, you may receive a different assignment, and the article may be evaluated for the next step. Thank you for your work on this project. Tuf-Kat 06:26, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to Esperanza!
[edit]Welcome, Dharmabum420/Archive 2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Pink Floyd external links
[edit]Please check your facts before showing your bias.
A Fleeting Glimpse has been one of the leading Floyd websites for many years.
It has recently been officially linked from davidgilmour.com one of only two sites on your list to have been given that honour.
Stop playing favourites. My site has had a listing in wiki for years until in recent times somebody started to mess around with it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wobbs (talk • contribs)
- We had a similar problem over at the Big Brother Australia article, where eventually a call for mediation was put out. It was decided there to keep one link only, and a link to a reputable directory for the remaining links. Perhaps something like this is called for here? -- Longhair 10:23, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
