Deletion of Furla article

Why have you deleted my article about the Furla brand. Similar articles exist on Wikipedia for many popular brands, including Gucci, Prada, Fendi, even the Guess stores have a page. I think that this brand deserves to be in this encyclopedia. Please, comment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonius1981 (talkcontribs) 15:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of disambiguation page for Tea Party

Hello, my apologies if I am not doing this the right way, but I am extremely puzzled by deletion of disambiguation page for "Tea Party". Now the phrase defaults to a Canadian Rock band which is ridiculous. People looking for info on the political movement (which is holding ongoing protests and probabaly more searched for than the obscure rock band) are thereby left at a dead end. Again if I am ignorant about something I apologize but this seems strange to me. South kensington (talk) 12:00, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

JoomlaLMS article deletion

Dear Dank(talk), 1.JoomlaLMS article was deleted very fast after you have placed the speedy deletion tag. People had no chance to discuss this at all!

2. The tag placed - section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion - was incorrect as "This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people and organizations themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software and so on." JoomlaLMS is software, NOT a company.

3. The tag placed on 8 February 2009 by Slakr(talk)(Speedy deleted per WP:CSD#G11 was removed long time ago as the article has been completely changed after February 2009 and the tag became outdated.

4. The JoomlaLMS is a highly notable software and used by THOUSANDS of people and is the most popular Learning Management System for Joomla and very well known among Joomla users what was written in the article as well.

Please consider recovering article and discussing it if required. I'd like to put "hangon" tag and provide additional reference and notability to prove that the article has a right to exists in open Encyclopedia. Thank you. Interkrok (talk) 13:20, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

  • ComunIP: this article has been deleted so fast that I couldn't see no valid reason to do so. I hadn't time to put any reason (I went to sleep, and when I woke up, the entire article was already deleted!!!). Please see my manifest at Talk:ComunIP. Guibv (talk) 19:30, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I was planning to do that article today but I found it protected (I have not encountered a new page like that before). I went to the unprotect link and it said to contact the administrator that protected it. So I'm wondering can you unprotect it so I can get to work on it. I'll watch for vandals. Deletetion of article "Vopium" ‎

Hi Dan, reference your deletion of article Vopium (log: 13:25, 7 April 2009 Dank (talk | contribs) deleted "Vopium" ‎ (G11: advertising), i would like to add that i have revised it and would like to re-submit. I have revised the article to include more reputable sources to help demonstrate notability. These include a global industry analyst firm, one of the most respected telecom business reporters in the US, a massively popular US-based consumer information site, and several telecom/VoIP-specific media outlets, demonstrating the industry’s continued recognition and interest in Vopium as a viable player. It’s also important to note that Vopium is publicly listed on NYSE Euronext.

Regarding your other point, yes Vopium’s technology is very much out of beta for the majority of the devices that it supports, which is more than 500. As Vopium is being constantly developed, new software to run on the newest platforms, there will always be certain products in beta at various times.

What do you suggest, should i just "create a new article" and you would see it from there? or how to send it to you?

--Mansoor.ehsan (talk) 04:26, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Here on the English Wikipedia, admins don't have any more authority than anyone else to decide which articles are kept. My advice would be to read WP:CORP and WP:Your first article, think about whether your current version meets our guidelines, and then post it at WP:DRAW and see if you can get some feedback before you re-post it as a Wikipedia article. - Dank (formerly Dank55) (push to talk) 12:45, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

User:Rotational/Benjamin Maund

Thank you for your note welcoming me to WP! I was using the page as a sandbox for preparing an article on Benjamin Maund and was under the impression that copyright didn't apply to sandboxes, however, I am now enlightened and would like access to this former page so that I can use the sources to create the page without copy vios. Thanks for pointing this out! ciao Rotational (talk) 08:06, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

You've got access to it already; just click the "edit" button, and you'll see all the text. The page is listed at WP:Copyright problems, which means that someone will be along in the next few days to look at the page again, and they might delete it if they find any sentences still copied from the source, so rewrite the article, and then remove the {{copyvio}} tag at the top of the page. Happy editing. - Dank (formerly Dank55) (push to talk) 12:10, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I think this may have been a mistake. The copyvio URL given appears to be an Wikipedia mirror site, no longer hosting the article.

Could this be restored?

I found another mirror of the article here. I would agree it needs cleanup, but think this concept ought to have an article.

(copied from email) Hello Dan,

I have edited the Adler and Allan page and re-posted!

Is this ok now?

One problem! I got this message once posted....

A major contributor to this article appears to have a conflict of interest with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page.

Irwin Kula

Hi Dan, I have been in touch with Aliza Kaplan at CLAL, who assures me that anything I want to use from the Yearnings or CLAL website is fine. In fact, we don't really see a copyright infringement from the information listed at all -- I merely posted the title of his book and the two awards that it received. The rest of the information on Irwin is also factual. She is happy to give approval on use of any of the information. But if this is still a problem you had once kindly offered to rework the listing on Irwin Kula and post it. If that offer is still good I would be happy to go with it. Thank you. Intelligenttalk (talk) 15:33, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Sure, I'm always happy to restore pages if you're willing to make an effort to fix it, and it sounds like you are. It's now at User:Intelligenttalk/Irwin kula, but if you move it into mainspace in its present condition, it will probably be deleted again. Study our policy on neutral wording; the present page is much too glowing. Also, it was tagged by the bot Corenbot as a copy of another page, and User:NawlinWiki also deleted the page for the copyright violation, so I've added a tag that obscures the text; you'll still be able to see all the text and edit it when you click on "edit". In this case, it would make a lot more sense to rewrite than to copy. - Dank (formerly Dank55) (push to talk) 02:37, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Email about the page User:Final Flight author

Dan,

It looks like you find something objectionable about me and my biography? When I wrote my wiki biography I was working under the impression that I was creating an extension to my wikipedia profile - not something for public consumption. Somehow you find something about my profile does not meet the wiki standard? What did I do to upset you to the degree you felt warranted in blocking my ability to make edits?

Because of your block, I can no longer provide edits to wikipedia pages.

I am the author of a book entitled Final Flight [to be published in 2010], the story of Leo Mustonen and Ernest Glenn Munn, two WW II aviation cadets who died in an airplane crash in 1942.

Did I do something wrong in creating my profile? Perhaps I wrote something you object to?

Please help me clear up this confusion.

I would like to unblock my account so I may continue to contribute.

Thank you.

The block was simply a block on that particular username; usernames which mention a particular product that is or is going to be for sale are considered "promotional" by Wikipedians, and are prohibited by our username policy. You're more than welcome to edit Wikipedia; simply create an account that doesn't mention your book. However, you're probably going to run into further problems, possibly leading to deletion of articles you create, unless you start off reading a few more pages: WP:NB, our guideline on which books are notable enough to have their own articles, and WP:COI, our guideline on editing articles that you have a personal stake in. - Dank (push to talk) 04:26, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

PriceDoc Deletion

Hello,

There were multilple secondary sources on the PriceDoc.com entry (KING 5 news and The Huffington Post). Can you please inform me why you deleted this entry?

Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MRC1983 (talkcontribs) 20:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not dead-set against having an article on this in Wikipedia; it was a technical decision, and if you can find independent sources, it might work. I checked the Google archives (http://news.google.com/archivesearch?q=%22pricedoc%22+source%3A%22-newswire%22+source%3A%22-wire%22+source%3A%22-presswire%22+source%3A%22-PR%22+source%3A%22-press%22+source%3A%22-release%22&btnG=Search+Archives) and got zero hits. Th only apparently independent source was from an article on the Huffington Post, but the writer shared an unusual last name with one of the site founders. KING 5 news was listed as an external link rather than a source. - Dank (push to talk) 20:50, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for helping usher the process. I noticed that you stated "I'm agreed with the opposition that there really should have been a clear discussion of when and how IPs were going to be able to communicate when he's an admin.". If you'll be so kind as to pose a related question, I'll be happy to answer it and hopefully clear up any confusion. Alternatively, I can always add an addendum to my personal beliefs.

Short version is that I have no problem with criticism whatsoever. However, my talk page and user pages were protected due to death threats and accusations of murder. These edits were not meant as simple harassment, but as an attempt to publicly malign/discredit/defame me. Proof? Despite my e-mail having been available since I became aware of this feature of Wikipedia, I have not received a single hate-mail.

So on a related matter, I have put a disclaimer at the top of my page stating that new users should contact me via e-mail. — BQZip01 — talk 22:17, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

As I mentioned, all the information that people want to know should be on the RFA page, and this is something some people want to know, so I'll copy this over there and continue the conversation there if you like. Best of luck, and I think you'll make a good admin. - Dank (push to talk) 02:19, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Dirty Deeds

In the case of there being only two uses of a title where on is an album and the other the title track from that album, it is standard for the page title to go to the album with a template:for link to the song at the top of the page. The album is the primary meaning.--Marcus Brute (talk) 16:49, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I asked User:Ironholds about this (I'm not good with bands after 1985. I'm serious.) and he said "it isn't something I've encountered before, but it sounds fair enough in that most people will be looking for the album". I think that's a "yes", so I'll delete per your request. Please feel free to give me guidance on music article deletions any time. - Dank (push to talk) 17:05, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Wait, there's a problem, the history is huge, and deletion will lose the history (usually, as a practical matter). Could we move (i.e. rename) or edit the content instead? - Dank (push to talk) 17:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

I am not Mr. Dodson, contrary to what someone thought, but I know Mr. Dodson, and the article is relevant and I'm glad you made the same observation. Sure thing, I'm watchlisting. I declined the speedy deletion for a technical reason; there's rough consensus that one person shouldn't come along and delete when so many editors have made contributions over a long period of time. - Dank (push to talk) 04:39, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

[copied] Opinion? You added a COI tag after it was tagged for speedy, so I wasn't sure if that meant you were declining the speedy or wanted a second opinion. I (I think) made a username block, and when we only have one contributor with obvious COI about a company that provides services to other organizations (in this case, the US military) rather than to consumers, with no sources, I'm not entirely comfortable with simply dropping the question of deletion. On the other hand, the article seems to be well-written and there are a lot of archives/books/scholar hits. Suggestions? (Watchlisting) - Dank (push to talk) 13:50, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

That was one of those bizarre instances where the article was well written, not copyrighted and the subject seemingly notable. In fact, I can't remember a similar situation. Given that, I thought it best to give the user a chance to change his/her username. I'm OK for a username block on the account based on the rules; hopefully, they'll establish a new account. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:54, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, has there been discussion at WP:MILHIST about this? (reply on my page please) - Dank (push to talk) 21:06, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm assuming that there has been not but there have been discussions with the findings that if there are articles that are unique in their existence, such as something titled "United States (country)", they do not need a disambiguator because of the fact that its pretty well known. In simpler terms, basically if another unit of the same nams doesn't exist, then the disambiguator is useless. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 21:09, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
That makes sense, but I'd rather see a discussion at WP:MILHIST on the name change. A lot of people have seen that page name and been fine with it. - Dank (push to talk) 21:10, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Tony shore

Hi - Just a quick question - should every article/bio have an improper case redirect as in the case of Tony shore? I tried to clean this up because I think the search suggestion dropdown/autocomplete is so useful most of the time, but not when it is filled up with double / triple redirects to the same articles (which as you mentioned may not survive). If the subject was notable and the original proper case article existed, and then a new editor created a new improper case page I can certainly see it being a valid redirect... but that is not the case here. Similarly, if someone created Tony SHore - would that survive. Thanks (and sorry for the hypothetical questions - just trying to avoid wasted CSDs in the future). JCutter (talk) 02:47, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Certainly Tony SHore should be R3'd. I'll ask at WT:CSD about caps, you make a good point. - Dank (push to talk) 03:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll watch there too. Looks like decltype agrees - we'll see what others think. (And thanks for catching my missing "not" in the suggestion dropdown. Sometimes my fingers get ahead of my brain and move on to the next sentence.) JCutter (talk) 06:22, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

A7 on Los Colorados

Hi Dank,

Just an observation as I was the original PRODer and have that on my watchlist, I think the page did make a tenuous claim about notability in its geographical region, the previous version of the article (the one deleted through the expired PROD I placed) also claimed an appearance on US TV (the Ellen Degeneres show or something). As per my comment on its talk page, I'd suggest sending the next re-creation (if there's one) to AfD to get the matter settled once and for all. Cheers, --MLauba (talk) 16:20, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

I missed your "A7 is doubtful" in the history, sorry. I haven't figured out the line between acceptable and unacceptable promotionalism in band articles; what do you think? Was it a db-spam? - Dank (push to talk) 16:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Frankly, I only scanned for notability and sources not present in the version which was deleted through my PROD, noticed what I'd have called a tenuous assertion of notability, considered whether to push it to AfD and decided to just leave a note on talk and let the reviewing admin judge. And had afterthoughts an hour later :) So if it was overly spammy (which wasn't the case in the previous incarnation) I missed it. I think it will be back though and unless it's a blatant speedy, I'd go for an AfD this time, to enable G4 until the band passes the GNG. MLauba (talk) 21:05, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the edit summary on this decline; I was actually just following the instructions at Wikipedia:Talk page redirects, but simply editing out the redirect and leaving a blank talk page behind makes perfect sense. I've dropped a note for the person who put that work package together to get his thoughts too. Mlaffs (talk) 18:14, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks much! It's nice to have a few comments thanking me for declines to balance out the other ones :) - Dank (push to talk) 18:16, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Hey, no problem. I'm only too happy to spread the love to anyone around here who forces me to think. Question for you while I'm leaving black on your page anyway, if you don't mind. I've seen your name pop up in discussions at various points, and I recall being impressed by how you conduct yourself, so I'm inclined to suspect that your opinion might be worth respecting. I've been thinking about whether I ought to put an Rfa together and it's quite possible that it would have to be a self-nom, given that I'm more than a little gnomy. Now don't worry — I'm not looking for a co-nom, or even for your support if it gets that far. But I wonder if you'd be willing to look at my contributions in a bubble and let me know what you think? Mlaffs (talk) 18:41, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm happy to help, but only if you submit an WP:ER; that gives me a lot more to work with. - Dank (push to talk) 18:44, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks very much — done and done! I actually had no idea that little corner of the Wikiworld even existed. Mlaffs (talk) 19:45, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Corfu categories

I noticed you declined my speedy tag. You are aware that I am in the process of recategorising Greek towns and villages per discussion with the project. I therefore find the four day wait unjustified as the categories are being renamed. It has been discussed with the group already so there is no reason why we need to keep them. Besides which I'm likely to forget about the empty categories after four days so we'll end up with loads of empty categories hanging around for nothing, RegardsDr. Blofeld (talk) 20:16, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't aware, but I am now. WP:CSD#A3 is for articles, but I could do a G6/housekeeping if there's no significant resistance. - Dank (push to talk) 20:24, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
After looking at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Greece#Proposed category overhaul for settlements, I'd prefer not to G6 it. C1 would work (as a practical matter, that means inclusion in the history from at least 4 days ago at Wikipedia:Database_reports/Empty_categories), or WP:CFD. - Dank (push to talk) 20:36, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi there! This edit broke the page at WP:ER into two, so I have edited your edit and removed the level 2 headline. The text in the headline is now in bold. You may undo my edit and check the contents box at WP:ER to make sure, but then please remove the level 2 headline. Thanks, AvN 14:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Speedy decline

How is the number of editors working on an article related to whether or not notability is asserted in the article. The fact that so many have worked on it and it still doesn't say why it's a notable group of fuels is even more odd. See my notes on the talk page: there are no usable sources for this that I could find on google news. It's just an ad. NJGW (talk) 18:34, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The only discussion I've seen at WT:CSD was in the last part of Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion/Archive_34#Thoughts? As much as I'd love to make all the decisions about what stays and goes on Wikipedia, I'm not allowed to do that. When a lot of people, either by silence or by actively working on the article, have indicated that they think the article is notable enough for inclusion, you need a community decision to reverse that. I don't have an opinion on whether WP:AfD would be a good call, but I have no objection if you want to AfD it. - Dank (push to talk) 18:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
I was talking about my discussion on the talk page of the article. There's no notability asserted and none findable on google news. The previous AFDs ended in no consensus and promises of further development which don't seem to have materialized. NJGW (talk) 18:53, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
And I'm saying that one person can't overrule community processes. Take it back to AfD if you like. - Dank (push to talk) 19:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
What community process are you talking about? The one that created an article that fails the speedy criteria or the one that has no consensus on the suitability of the article to stay? I would see creation of the speedy criteria as a more important community process. I think maybe your personal interpretation of the speedy criteria may be keeping you from looking at the content itself. Do you mind reinstating the speedy tag and letting a different admin have a look? If they agree with you I'll take it to AFD. NJGW (talk) 19:09, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Better than having one more admin look at it, I'll copy this to WT:CSD and then a whole bunch of admins will look at it :) - Dank (push to talk) 19:13, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The Consumer Cellular page was written to focus on the company's influence, NOT to promote their plans or services. The company IS important in the Portland community, and is relevant to use of cellular phones by senior citizens. External links were only to news articles showing Consumer Cellular's role in the Portland business community. The page is relevant to life in the Pacific Northwest, which is what my contributions focus on - could it be undeleted? Are there other changes that could be made to make the article qualify for Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by PDX sunshine (talkcontribs) 20:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

The page has been deleted 4 times by 4 different admins, so I can't offer you much optimism. See WP:CORP and WP:Your first article. - Dank (push to talk) 21:05, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, I read those, and have adhered to my interpretation them - my first article was actually on a historic place. Is the article even being read anymore, or is anything related to Consumer Cellular just totally banned now? The version I wrote today conformed to everything I read in the guidelines as I understood it.
Try asking advice at WP:DRAW. - Dank (push to talk) 22:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Can the article be undeleted while it's reviewed by the community? Thanks so much! - PDXSunshine
Not in its current form. That's why you're asking at WP:DRAW, so you can get opinions from others. Another place to try is WP:N?. - Dank (push to talk) 23:05, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Tell me what you think of the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion/Archive_34#Thoughts?, particularly Moonriddengirl's point that "type of web content" is not the same thing as "web content", so it's not an A7. - Dank (push to talk) 22:22, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Naomi Elizabeth

Regarding the new page: Naomi Elizabeth, which seems to have been nominated for speedy deletion. I would like to request that the subject matter is re-evaluated, it pertains only to the work of an obscure musician. The citations are verifiable and not frivolous. If there are specific changes that need to be made, please let me know. Thanks so much. Hhtttt (talk) 04:40, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Found your note when checking the article in relationship to another. I did not spend much time there, but was able to source his recognition for past acting and current awards and nominations for filmmaking. There was a problem with the author's COI, but if he leaves it alone and allows others to bring it into line, Wiki wil be happy... as there is stuff out there... just a mater of continued digging. I appreciate the wisdom shown by your removing the CSD7. Best, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Mukul Shivaputra Komkali

Hello Dank,

I was searching for Mukul and found a deleted page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mukul_Shivaputra_Komkali I agree that Mukul is not as famous as his father but he is certainly great and notable. He is not notable because of his father's fame but for his contribution to Indian Classical Music.

He is not so famous because he choose to live a different type of life. "He is a moody person. He likes to lead a reclusive life and has a habit of disappearing and then reappearing out of the blue," remarks one of Shivputra's close friends.

This google news link lists tries to put some light on the matter http://news.google.com/archivesearch?q=Mukul+Shivaputra&hl=en&ned=us&um=1&sa=N&start=0. This list of Google news starts from 2002 but I have seen him performing as master in 90s as well. Even in 90s he was of the level that top Indian Classical musicians (e.g. Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiv_Kumar_Sharma) agreed to adjust timings during an overnight concert for carving a slot for Mukul.

Whosoever has written the page about him may not have researched enough and seems was not able to provide enough references. IMHO it will be good if the page can be restored and left for development.

Thanks, Akshaymathur (talk) 13:54, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Akshay! This message was not intended for me, but I'll reply to it anyway. The article in question did not make an assertion of notability, i.e., it did not indicate why the subject of the article was important. An off-wiki site has a copy of the article here which it managed to obtain before the article was deleted. As you can see, the information is also inaccurate. Mukul Shivaputra Komkali was not awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 (which would make him notable). It was, in fact, his father Kumar Gandharva who got the award. You may recreate the article if you wish, but it must follow Wikipedia guidelines (WP:N, WP:V, WP:NPOV). Also, you may wish to read WP:FIRST. Best to you, AvN 15:08, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Some time ago you deleted a page for the reason that it had become an attack page. When this happened the discussion page was deleted as well. Content creation

I'm at work, so talk page posting was easier!

I was thinking about your comments about content creation last night. The ones to which I've pointed you to are really it, and I'd have to agree that none of them could easily be worked up to a GA or featured list.

Part of the problem is that there's never been anything about which I've had a burning need to write an article — even the baseball draft articles were about filling in gaps more than they were about adding to the store of human knowledge. I'm also working with words all day long at work, so even though I'm a trained journalist/editor, writing is about the last thing that I want to go and do in my spare time.

However, I thought that a list might be the right fit, and I've been looking at the featured lists to get an idea of what's already there and what might turn my crank. I'm probably most passionate/knowledgeable about sports, hockey and baseball in particular, and so my search is turning me in that direction.

List of Ottawa Senators players is one that's already featured, and so I immediately thought that List of Toronto Maple Leafs players could be good for me (favourite team). However, they've been around for so long that it would be an enormous undertaking. However, while baseball does have some featured lists, none of them are for the team rosters. Toronto Blue Jays all-time roster might be something to tackle then. All of the team roster pages look like this, though, so there's a possibility that this is a format on which the relevant project has settled — I'm going to check that out with them.

In the meantime, a couple of questions:

  • Initial reaction to the choice?
  • I'm assuming that the title doesn't have to be in the 'List of …' format, correct?
  • In the case where you're significantly beefing up the content and changing the format of an existing page, such as would be the case with Toronto Blue Jays all-time roster, thoughts on the best way to go about it? My gut says to lay it all out on a user sub-page first and then copy it into the article over top of the existing content — trying to build it into the article as it stands with a giant "Under Construction" tag feels really ugly to me, especially if it's going to be done in bite-size pieces over several weeks.
  • Unrelated, but what is it about 30 Rock (season 1) that makes it eligible to be a featured list? That seems like a full-fledged article to me, or is it just enough that there's a solid list within the article?

Mlaffs (talk) 18:08, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

It's a good choice. It's reasonably common for lists not to begin with "list of ..."; there are 5 currently at FLC. User subpage sounds like a good idea. And I don't know how "listy" something has to be to do well at FLC. - Dank (push to talk) 03:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
If you ever want to work on an article and are unsure if it counts as a list, User:Dabomb87, User:Matthewedwards, User:Scorpion0422, and User:Truco are all great editors to ask, as they are really involved at FLC. As for that 30 Rock one; I'd say that it could go as either GA or FL, but I would go for the latter, as 30 Rock (season 2) is already a FL, and it is best to keep things consistent. NW (Talk) (How am I doing?) 03:19, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, both. Not a lot of positive feedback at the baseball project to the idea of including stats in the list, so I'm probably better off to hook in with the hockey project instead — although perhaps starting on a team with a shorter history and smaller all-time roster! 30 Rock (season 1) actually already is a FL — I just don't quite understand why it went through that rather than the article process. Perhaps I'll see if I can hunt down the editor who started the process and get their thoughts. Mlaffs (talk) 03:38, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Hmm..I consider myself a huge proponent of G10 over A7, but that article didn't look that bad. What do you think? decltype (talk) 21:01, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I'd rather not reproduce the content on my talk page, but it was previously speedied by 2 other admins as G10, and it had unsourced negative statements about his parents. - Dank (push to talk) 21:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
I see. Seeing how everything went well in the end of the story, I figured it was a plausible autobio. Of course, the fact that it was deleted twice as G10 does affect WP:AGF. Thanks. decltype (talk) 21:06, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi why did you delete the john Ng page? I had only started working on it 15-20 minutes ago... And now it's gone? It needed work-- YES. But Damn I did not even have a F'n chance to put the notable information in the article. Miike Snow (album)

How the hell is it not an A9? A9 is for cases where the album doesn't assert notability and the artist doesn't have an article. Miike Snow was just speedied; therefore, Miike Snow (album) is without its artist's article; therefore, it's a clear-cut A9. Speedy and AFD can overlap, you know, if the speedy fits. There's surely no reason to drag EVERYthing through afd for a week or longer. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 18:14, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

(e/c) Oh wait. I see. You agree that it's an A9, but you want further consensus from other users before putting the speedy tag on? Yeah, that makes sense… not. Process for the sake of process. I tried to make A9 as unquestionable as possible, so I really see no reason to decline it. I can't see anyone else looking at that and saying "it's not an A9!". Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 18:18, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
A lot of days, including today, I do more CSD work than anyone else, at least during my "shift". One immutable rule of Wikipedia (and any workplace) is: the bigger your footprint, the softer you have to tread, because people don't like getting bossed around. Stopping an ongoing deletion conversation (other than for db-attack or db-copyvio) because "I've decided" would get roughly the same reaction that Bush Jr. got when he said "I'm the decider". OTOH ... I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with any of the people active in music-related deletion tagging, because I need more help with that than anything else. I've got that AfD watchlisted, I'm sure we'll get support for A9, and as soon as we do, I'll be happy to delete it with extreme prejudice. - Dank (push to talk) 18:33, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Bleah. Far too many editors are overly cautious. I can understand your point though, and I think the A9 tag should at least be left up for another admin to delete. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 18:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Oooh ... that's a great idea, if you'll let me hold off until there are a couple more speedy votes at the AfD. Then I'll tag it and let someone else bag it. - Dank (push to talk) 18:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Can we please get this page back up? I don't edit wikipedia much at all, but I'm and editor for a music mag that was referencing the page a few days ago and don't understand why it was deleted. Out 100 list

[Copied back and forth from WT:CP]:

I don't understand why Out magazine's Out 100 was deleted. It says it is "unambiguous copyright infringement"? How is it different from Time Magazine's Person of the Year or any other list of honorees? None of the content from the magazine articles were included. Just the names of the recipients. Could you please undelete this article? Queerudite (talk) 23:31, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

That's a very good question; I think the answer is that there's been so much commentary on Time's Person of the Year that we can take the commentary as our sources. When similar lists have been reproduced, for example, List of America's 100 greatest golf courses, they've been either deleted, redirected, or shortened considerably out of copyright concerns. I'll copy this conversation over at WT:CP. - Dank (push to talk) 23:42, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
P.S. I believe it makes it harder to get past the copyright problems that they aren't using measurable criteria; this is a completely subjective assessment of who's cool and out. - Dank (push to talk) 23:52, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
That would be the core issue as I understand it. If the selection criteria are creative, then the list is copyrightable. "most interesting and influential" is definitely a subjective, hence creative, list. Time's "Person of the Year" is also subjective, but what's being reported in that article is simply the winners who have been chosen and published year after year. We can report on People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" winners (and do here), but could not reproduce the entire list of "100 Most Beautiful People" or "25 Hottest Bachelors." (I have to admit that creative lists are not an area of copyright with which I've had much personal experience. It mystifies me that Billboard can copyright some of its charts, but it certainly does: "Use of a Billboard chart on any Internet Web site is EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED without prior written consent from VNU eMedia, Inc." Are they blowing hot air? I don't know. I haven't put a lot of time into it, but I've looked a time or two for a test case or DMCA take-down, but I haven't found one yet.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:10, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
I understand what you're saying, but in practice, I don't think Wikipedia uses "creativity" as the core criterion for excluding award lists. See for example most any of the lists in Category:Award winners and its subcategories. All of the examples of "acceptable" content mentioned so far (Person of the Year, Sexiest Man, etc.) are "creative". I mean, I'm no lawyer, but if creativity is the primary criterion, we have a lot more deleting to do. Queerudite (talk) 00:58, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
But those are annual winners, not a full list. For example of a previous conversation, see this archived conversation from 2004: a couple of quotes, "Compliation copyright occurs when the compliation has a sufficient creative element in it to recognize authorship in the list."; "In general, in US law, a list isn't copyrightable unless what is on the list has been creatively selected (a significant subset of all possible entries) or is in some other way either fictional or creative." Here's another archived thread from 2007. There are other threads. I've just added a search function to WT:C, if that might help. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:15, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Mustang Maniacs

Hey. I see that the page for the Mustang Maniacs was speedily deleted, and I feel that it may have happened prematurely. Looking back, I see that it did not meet the requirements of A7, but I feel that with some editing, the article could be a valuable addition to Wikipedia. The main reason why the article was deleted was for not sufficiently stating a reason why it was important enough, so I have worked to find some valid reasons why the group merits recognition:
1. The Mustang Maniacs, in cooperation with the Aggie Pack, put on the Battle for the Golden Horseshoe, a tradition that has merited its own page and has existed since 1939.
2. The Mustang Maniacs are charged with the protection and restoration of the Cal Poly P, a landmark of San Luis Obispo county and a nationally recognized historical place (working on finding external source)
3. The Mustang Maniacs are responsible for garnering the support needed to set the record for the crowd of 11,075 people October 17th, 2008 at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. This event goes down in history as the third largest attended college soccer game in all of the sports history.

I understand if the club still does not meet the requirements laid out by the standards of Wikipedia, and I appreciate your time and dedication to this site. Aceshigher (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

  • I second that. It seems that it was an article well on its way to being up to par. I think it got caught up in speedy deletion hype before the author(s) had a chance to address the concerns. Brianopp (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for asking; this is the reason I give extra detail in the speedy rationale, so that if something doesn't look right, people are more likely to speak up. I restored and moved the page to User:Dank/Mustang Maniacs, and added "noindex" so it doesn't get picked up by search engines; please don't remove that. I'll check back in a week for improvement. None of the 3 references it has at the moment are considered independent; it will probably need independent reliable sources supporting notability in order to survive at WP:AfD. See WP:CLUB. - Dank (push to talk) 17:17, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

List of Clow Cards

You recently denied a request for speedy deletion of List of Clow Cards, however the same user that requested the speedy deletion has now redirected the page to Cardcaptor Sakura. I'm reluctant to revert their edits because they will simply re-revert it back. As I'm fairly new to editing Wikipedia, I'm wondering what I should do to resolve this situation properly. Thanks. zzymyn (talk) 00:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

The request was denied because the previous AfD said redirect. As such, I have simply enforced the AfD (yet again). However, I will say that I do disagree with the declining to delete. Clow Cards wasn't deleted in the physical sense, but it was only redirected because it was a likely search term. As such, I feel that recreating the article under another name is the same as recreating deleted material as it was "deleted by redirect". In either case, three AfDs, as well as discussions on the main article page clearly show this content is not acceptable in any form, and so for now I have just redirected it per those consensus based discussions that are supported by Wikipedia guidelines and policies. I have also noted this on that List's talk page per Zzymyn's questions about it. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 01:07, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for replying on the talk page Collectonian. This situation is new to me, so I was just wondering what Wikipedia's policies are on such issues. I hope that we can resolve this on the talk page for the article in question though. zzymyn (talk) 01:16, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

As you say, "short". I don't believe there's any support for a "shortcut" that long, so I deleted per WP:CSD#R3, an unlikely redirect. Please pick something shorter, or if you disagree, you're welcome to take it to WP:DRV. - Dank (push to talk) 05:36, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Recreating a page

Hello,

A few days ago, I posted an entry for NYCFashionInfo.com. You and Wikidan61 found several legitimate issues with the page and deleted it from wikipedia. I respect and appreciate your concerns with this first page. Since the original posting, I've been in touch with wikidan61 and he has given me some good suggestions for how to improve the entry. I also explained to him more about the NYCEDC, my employer, and our mission as a non-profit dedicated to growing New York City's economy. NYCEDC does not stand to profit in any way from the operation of NYCFashionInfo.com. We are soley committed to the greater good of New York City. I now have a new version which I would like to run by you before I post it. I want to make sure the new text meets your requirements and will not be taken down. Would you be able to advise me on next steps for this process? Thank you! JulyJuly21 (talk) 13:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Since you have the text you need and User:WikiDan61 has been looking at this, please run it by him. - Dank (push to talk) 17:32, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi, wikiDan61 said that you were responsible for managing the deletion and that I should coordinate with you. Please advise. Thank you! JulyJuly21 (talk) 17:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
You said "I now have a new version which I would like to run by you before I post it." He mentioned me because he thought you needed something undeleted. I'm sorry, I'm pretty busy today. You probably don't care about this speedy decline from January ... I okayed it as G7. - Dank (push to talk) 14:51, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Absolutely fine. Search index lag fail. :) PeterSymonds (talk) 15:46, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

On this one, if there are any specious awards in the article, please do remove them, but the hits at news.google.com/archivesearch suggested that he's widely quoted and published. Btw, I notice you're new at speedy tagging work; please watchlist the articles you tag, and ask if you have questions when I decline, or delete for a different reason. The rationales are important. - Dank (push to talk) 15:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I notice you're new at speedy tagging work? I think you may have confused me with some other person or some other article. I've been an admin longer than you've been editing. On this article, my searches on the first two awards listed (sam millar XXX award, where XXX was the name of the award) came up with nothing or websites that quoted the author's own website. I then repeated my search on google news without changing the text of my search and got nothing. Its fine that you disagree with the speedy, thats why I placed a speedy tag instead of deleting the article myself. Cheers! Syrthiss (talk) 15:57, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, my mistake. I have been declining a lot of speedies this morning, saw your username and vaguely remembered that I had seen your name several times this morning, and put two and two together and got five. Check out this Google archive search; he seems to be quoted as an expert, or at least a pundit, in several papers, not just the local Belfast paper. At Google books, the "about this book" links list a lot of reviews, some in large-circulation newspapers. That doesn't settle the issue, and I have no objection if you want to AfD this, but it's suggestive. - Dank (push to talk) 16:14, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
P.S. This is why I usually use talkback for conversations about speedies; people get annoyed if I put crap like that on their own talk pages, and they like it even less if I have a point :) - Dank (push to talk) 16:19, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi. You recently tagged some empty categories for speedy deletion. If they don't show up at WP:DBR (specifically, in the history from at least 4 days ago ... http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Database_reports/Empty_categories&oldid=289173874), then they usually don't meet the C1 guidelines. Have these categories all been empty for at least 4 days? - Dank (push to talk) 18:25, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

None of the categories I tagged will show up in that report. If you read the paragraph at the top of the page, you'll see that categories including the words "non-article" amongst others will not be shown. -- WOSlinker (talk) 19:53, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
You're right. My understanding is that the phrases that are excluded from that report are phrases that usually indicate cats not covered by C1, so I'll ask about this at WT:CFD. - Dank (push to talk) 20:01, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Hmm...Link, please?

It has recently come to my attention that there is a discussion page on a secure server for admins about possible user blockings. I am writing a report about the validity of Wikipedia, and knowing more about the whole vandal-blocking process would help me. If there such a page, could you please provide me with a link to it? --Muzekal Mike (talk) 23:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not generally involved in vandal-blocking, and I haven't heard of this. - Dank (push to talk) 00:02, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I doubt that there is any real discussion going on anywhere other than on-Wiki and, perhaps (although I've not seen any chatter about it) on the mailing lists. 'Possible user blockings' is vague, though, what specifically are you asking about? — neuro(talk) 00:05, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I was just looking around Wikipedia one day when I saw a vandalization by a user named Grawp. I went to revert it, only to find that it was reverted while I was looking at it. After click on several links, I found myself on a page with the prefix https:// instead of http:// where some high-end Wikipedians were talking about the sockpuppets of JarlaxleArtemis. I tried to find the page again today, but couldn't. Does it seem more likely that I found something I wasn't supposed to, or had a weird hallucination? --Muzekal Mike (talk) 00:20, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I've never heard of such a thing, and I've blocked nearly 2,000 users. –Juliancolton | Talk 00:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Chances are someone was linking someone to a diff of the incident at hand so that it could be removed from the logs, and they were linking from the secure server. As for discussing the socks, due to the nature of both his and copycats' disruption, discussion often occurs. We don't have any higher tiers of communication on-Wiki than what you and I can see. — neuro(talk) 00:26, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
I'll rule out the strange page, that was probably nothing important. Is anybody willing to help me on my report, though? Is there a page for the guidelines, etc. of blocking vandals? --Muzekal Mike (talk) 00:34, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Like I said, this isn't my area. You can try WT:AIV. - Dank (push to talk) 00:37, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
You want https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page - but there's nothing there that's not on the main site. DS (talk) 00:48, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Daniel Kemp

Why did you remove and block "Daniel Kemp"? Daniel Kemp is a notable person. Just do a Google search for "Daniel Kemp". His Twitter page also has 2700+ followers. Clearly Daniel is a notable individual. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Summervines (talkcontribs) 05:21, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

This Daniel Kemp doesn't appear to be notable even when compared with other Daniel Kemps, but if you can find some Reliable sources in that list or elsewhere that meet the notability requirements of WP:BIO, then yes, an article is possible. Also see WP:Your first article. - Dank (push to talk) 05:23, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Daniel Kemp would be under the "Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following." section of "Notability". He has been featured on sites like NickyCakes.com and Social Media Marketing Strategies. View Daniel's Twitter for yourself to see the number of followers. Do a search for "Daniel Kemp" or "Daniel_Kemp" on the Bodybuilding.com forums, one of the biggest forums on the Internet, to see how popular Daniel Kemp is. About deletion of page 'Jay Vasavada'

He is a revolutionaty writer and thus quite popular among youth of western India (specially the language he writes in - Gujarati). He has been given school education by what was then a quite revolutionary idea - 'home schooling'. On a social networking site, Orkut, we have a community with 2500 members and many more uses his wiki page to his reference. I have created my account to contribute the readers by putting more information about this popular writer by contacting him personally and putting the information here. The page is not any kind of advertisement nor it has anything to do with any commercial aspect. It's for inspiration of youth who embrace his ideas and way of thinking. Pl help me restore the page. About deletion of page 'Educare India'

Educare India is a renowned community welfare organisation for 15 years in northwest India and in my judgement merits description. Hope the article information builds up with others contributions in days to come. After initial deletion, I as an author has learnt a bit of copywriting, and styling contributor has edited it a bit. Hope your 'deletion' page tag removal is in line with the policy ! (push to talk)E6nvikas (talk) 13:05, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Opinio0n you'll find is useless. The Googling "Educare India" gave me 277,000; and Educare alone gave 2,400,000 returns. --Jakezing (Your King) (talk) 13:09, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
I still have a lot to learn about how we determine reliable sources for articles on Indian topics. The editors from WT:INDIA haven't objected, and we do have two references now that might be good enough, I'm happy to leave it alone for now. - Dank (push to talk) 13:15, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I have added another article - Slow sex to your existing AfD. It is written by the same author as the one you found, and the contents are almost identical. I hope you don't mind--feel free to undo this addition if you prefer the two to be handled separately. Owen× 02:15, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA)‎

Re: Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA)‎ - I realize the association may be notable (and that per wp:before we should fix not delete) but the page itself doesn't assert notability. Further, this was one of a series of spam posts by this same author who is conflicted. Your thoughts?    7   talk Δ |   03:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

The other one they created is a c/p copyvio SPAA (Screen Producers Association of Australia)    7   talk Δ |   03:35, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
They were actually both copyright infringement; I deleted one and stubbified the other, and added wikiproject tags. I have blocked that username as promotional. I recall User:Tony1 is a big supporter of Australian public television, I'll run this by him. - Dank (push to talk) 03:46, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the second look.    7   talk Δ |   03:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Also - need to figure out what to do about this - Screen Producers Association. I tagged it too because this user touched it, and because it doesn't do anything to say why the assoc is important... However it has survived two years. Perhaps redir Screen Producers Association of Australia (SPAA) to Screen Producers Association ?    7   talk Δ |   03:54, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for cleaning it up.    7   talk Δ |   04:22, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

WTF?

Why did you delete that subpage in my userspace? It had all the pertinent info, crediting it to the original writer. I never claimed it as my own. Furthermore, it was never meant to be an article, it was there for my own, and others amusement. One more thing, when you write something off as a copyvio, get the right URL. I got it from yahoo. Not the url provided in the deletion summary. Mine was much longer than that one.Drew Smith What I've done 05:04, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Are you sure this article was "blatant advertising"? It looked as though it was struggling to establish notability, but I'm not sure it was a G11. Also, although this is not necessarily a factor, it has existed since 2004 and that may indicate that a discussion might be beneficial. Regards, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:29, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for catching this. I missed that it had been around for a while; I normally don't speedy articles like that. I was reacting to sentences like "Rainman enabled AOL to stay a step ahead of the Web for nearly a decade, contributing to its meteoric rise as an online service" and "many consider Rainman to be faster, simpler to use and more reliable than HTML", but with some judicious editing, it might be a useful article. I have restored it; feel free to add any tags that seem appropriate. - Dank (push to talk) 17:34, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Speed deletion of article OpenCart

I apologize if you thought my action was unlawful.

Jamie Shaw (talk) 07:47, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

No apology necessary. Look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/OpenCart, which closed as "no consensus". If something has changed that's likely to change the result of an AfD to "delete", then take it to AfD. Otherwise, see if you can improve the article to address the problems you see. - Dank (push to talk) 14:13, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Recent Deletion of Smarta.com

It is helpful to remove it, at least at moments like this when it's me vs. the taggers (and you guys are winning), because I have to be careful whenever there's an AfD or prod tag. Often, AfD and prod trump speedy, and I have to figure out whether the tagger was serious before I can speedy. - Dank (push to talk) 16:25, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks ... and btw, despite Phil's G8 tag, that was actually a G7 since the creator blanked the page. - Dank (push to talk) 16:32, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

With pages like this, rather than tagging as A1, please do a Google search to see if they're copying from somewhere (they were) and tag as G12. On days like today, when it's me vs. the taggers (for the moment), I lose the battle if I have to look these things up myself. Btw, great tagging work. - Dank (push to talk) 16:21, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi, you've tagged this as A2, but to check that, I need to know what language it's in and which wikipedia it's on. - Dank (push to talk) 18:06, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Concerning Deletion of article on Christiane Vleugels

If people need to have "significant hits at news.google.com/archivesearch," then I challenge you to explain why many people mentioned in other biographical articles return no significant search results on Google News. Two examples I picked at random from the list of Belgian painters, also contemporary:

Philip Henderickx — no references except concerning the "mixing of exotic drinks"

The "De Vriendt Brothers" — no references except in an anniversary list.

You will find many more examples of these. Wikipedia is full of people and things that no one has ever heard about. If the article is not allowed to be created, it cannot grow, and one can only tell how well the people are really known from whether or not the article grows.

You must admit, the similarities are very close, as these also concern stub articles about little known contemporary painters which return no significant search results on Google News — yet, these were not deleted, in contrast to my own article about Vleugels. This is unreasonable and unjust, and I protest.

If you think the person concerned is not significant enough, I may add that the Gallery des Beaux Art is well known in Cologne, that her works reached as far as Egypt, that thousands of people are keeping up with her works continually, and that Vleugels has been widely acclaimed for originality and photorealistic detail.

Please discuss.

Heh, I saw that "or you may expect complaints" ... as you can see from my talk page, anyone active in deletion work may expect complaints on a daily basis. The main problem is that our notability standards are rather strict, and people really aren't expecting that, or don't know what they are, exactly. We try to encourage first-time contributors; we would prefer that every article start with reliable sources establishing notability on the very first draft, but we don't always get it, and then we have to make judgment calls. If you need the text that I deleted, I'll be happy to reproduce it in my userspace. If you have what you need, your next stop should be either the friendly folks at WP:N?, who help people with their first contributions, or click the bubble at the top of this page for real-time help. If they can't answer all your questions, please let me know if I can help. - Dank (push to talk) 21:52, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

What has WP:MILHIST got to do with WP:CORP?

My speedy tag[4] on Vanguard Industries, Inc. is okay but WP:MILHIST should be notified first[5]? The company fails to meet WP:CORP no matter if the Military History Project likes it or not. Is "MILHIST likes to be in the loop" a valid reason to decline a CSD tag? You really got me confused here. Yintaɳ  22:57, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Roughly speaking, any speedy (other than G3, G10 and G12) can be turned down if the admin has an idea that there's somebody out there who might be able to find sources for and improve the article (although, it's important not to just take the tag off and let it drop ... I usually prod, and when not, I put it on a list to check on it later ... and sometimes the article gets worse and I speedy it later). We can never be sure that sources don't exist, especially if it's true that this company is a large supplier of military insignia. - Dank (push to talk) 23:21, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't you think I checked? I can't find anything that meets WP:CORP. Yintaɳ  23:27, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Not all sources are online or have their text indexed online; in fact, at FAC and GAN, reviewers prefer books to websites. Are you saying that you found so little that you think it's a hoax? That would be different. - Dank (push to talk) 23:31, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
No, it's not a hoax, the company exists. It has a website (www.vanguardmil.com) but even that doesn't mention anything notable in their history. (However, should you wish to order a 6 inch sun catcher with American flag, you know where to go :-) Yintaɳ  23:43, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
I declined because WP:MILHIST is a very active wikiproject and it's not hard to imagine that some of them would enjoy either working on this article or merging the contents to another article about insignia. There's already been some work on the article; we'll see at the end of the 7 days whether it's enough. - Dank (push to talk) 15:53, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, several things warranted the db-spam link: the fact that it was created by User:SavvyCollector ... see our WP:COI guideline ... and we don't generally like feature lists or a lot of external links without any independent sources that establish notability. Also see our WP:Web guideline, and WP:Your first article. - Dank (push to talk) 04:14, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm declining the A7 speedy on this one because we don't generally speedy schools. If there's insufficient notability for the school, then they should be merged and redirected, in this case to Worthington City School District. - Dank (push to talk) 15:55, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Sounds good. I couldn't really find anything about the notability of schools other than they fall into the club and organization field. I've seen in past AfDs that only high schools and above are generally notable but I can't find a policy/guideline stating that. I went ahead and made the redirect. Thanks for your time. Normally I don't speedy if someone claims to have found possible sources, but 4 things swayed me on this one:

I don't disagree- that's why I used hangon, rather than removing the G4 tag- I just wanted to make sure the article got a fair hearing. I did look through Google and couldn't come up with anything more compelling, so 'twas probably the right call. Thanks for explaining, anyway! HJMitchell You rang? 15:06, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I didn't know if you felt strongly about it. - Dank (push to talk) 15:16, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Nah, if I did, I would have taken the tag down. I just figured it was worth googling at least to see if we couldn't get something decent out of it. Perhaps they'll get more attention on future- then we can have an article on 'em! Thanks again for getting in touch. HJMitchell You rang? 01:59, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. Just a quick note, I think you have misjudged your !vote in this AFD. Reading this article, I think you will notice that a.) it makes assertions of notability and b.) A7 was previously declined by me and thus should not have been retagged. I don't want to scold you, but I think you might want to be more careful when following TPH who has a history of mistagging articles. Regards SoWhy 12:43, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi,

I think you were right to speedy-delete Yehonathan Gatro, since the article made no assertion of his notability; but I've taken a look at the notability criteria for musicians, and I think he does meet some of them. Would you mind restoring the article (the last non-copyvio version, I guess — not being an admin, I can't see exactly what that's referring to), and I can translate the rest of he:יהונתן גטרו?

Thanks in advance!

Good work, now it's back at Yehonathan Gatro. Some Israeli sources that demonstrate the "jaw-dropping" reaction of the Israeli press would help establish notability, I think (although it's easy to believe, for many reasons). - Dank (push to talk) 17:48, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

A mistaken deletion

In this page, it states that you deleted the page for the reason of "Talk page whose corresponding article does not exist". The page is actually an article. In fact, the talk page still exists. I am not an administrator, in case you thought I was, but I'm warning you that you made a mistaken deletion. Please fix it. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 00:42, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Shouldn't this have gone to AfD instead of being speedied? It's been PRODed twice by two different editors, and the PROD removed again twice two two more different editors... I tagged Category:The loneliest number as a CSD G1, but I see you deleted it as G2 [6]. I was a bit unsure what to tag it as, since I saw the creator added the category to a couple of articles on numbers. I was hoping you might clarify your rationale behind the G2 classification; for my own future reference while tagging articles. Thanks. Icseaturtles 03:54, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

See for instance Wikipedia_talk:CSD#A1 instead of G1 or G3. The problem with G1 is that different people think it means different things, and people have failed RFAs over the perception that their speedy tagging was bad. If something looks like speedy-able nonsense, and if WP:CSD#A1 doesn't apply, think about whether the page could have been meant as something harmless or experimental; if so, then you should usually tag as G2, and if not, then usually G3. - Dank (push to talk) 04:06, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I appreciate the clarification. I'll keep this in mind when tagging in the future. Cheers. Icseaturtles 04:14, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Dylan Turner and AfD

I believe you have overstepped your authoriy by unilaterally declaring that the previous AfD of the Dylan Turner article has no effect. The AfD can only be overturned through a deletion review. Therefore, the speedy-delete is on order. I have restored the speedy-delete tag that you removed. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:14, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

The policy you're referring to says: "A copy, by any title, of a page deleted via a deletion discussion, provided the copy is substantially identical (bolding mine) to the deleted version and that any changes in the recreated page do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted." As I pointed out, the old version was rejected for having no sources, and the new version has sources, so it's not a G4. I personally follow a 1RR policy, so I'd appreciate it if someone else would remove the tag. - Dank (push to talk) 19:20, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

cross postings to different projects at AFD are acceptable, but always remember to note when you do so, you don't want to be accused of CANVASS. That wasn't your intent here, but it is expected that people know which projects have been alerted to specific AFD's. Dank,

I have a question about why you deleted my article about GLC Advisors. You said no verifyable independent sources, yet if you look at google: http://www.google.com/search?q=glc+advisors&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1, there are more than just a few.

For instance: CNBC: http://www.cnbc.com/id/30952687 Bloomberg: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=ahpS4KJ.mdbg&refer=us Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS43975+27-May-2009+BW20090527

On Bloomberg finance terminals the story was also deemed a "top" story of the day which means it jumps to the top of the list for anyone looking at news.

You also said no significant hits at Google Archive, but that was due to the fact that the press release occured last night at midnight and there hasn't been time to build archive hits.

I understand if there is some other reason for taking the page down, but the reasons as stated do not seem adequate.

Thanks in advance for the help and apologies if I caused any inconvenience.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jstevens2009 (talkcontribs) 17:11, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Deleting "broken" redirects

Before you delete a redirect to a non-existent target page, you should check to see if there's something else the redirect ought to point to. In the case of sunspot (economics) you wouldn't have had to look very far. (I've restored it and then fixed it.) Michael Hardy (talk) 04:22, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

When deleting simple things like broken redirects, all I check is the history, to make sure I'm not deleting anything that wouldn't be trivially easy to re-create, in case the requester is in error. It's really not my call to decide where redirects "ought" to point; that's the job of the community, usually the relevant wikiproject. - Dank (push to talk) 12:53, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

You're forgetting that this is Wikipedia: the "community" includes everybody. I don't need to be a participant in a particular WikiProject to edit an article within its scope, and neither do you. Merely entering the name of that redirect page into the search box would have told you something. Michael Hardy (talk) 21:52, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Hiya. I know this is frustrating, because someone has done a lot of work on this article, and I believe this product clears the "notability" hurdle, but there's one more hurdle to clear to avoid deletion. Wikipedians have a gut reaction to anything that even vaguely resembles a company brochure, and the resemblance here is still more than vague. Read WP:NPOV, and I hope you'll participate in the WP:AfD discussion (click on the link in the heading). You're obviously willing to work with us, and if you've got more time, we may be able to work out the bugs. - Dank (push to talk) 21:47, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Woodleigh School page

Page deleted on basis that it conflicted with another school. However, no wiki page exists for a school in NZ with same name. Also, user who marked page for deletion has history of vandalism. Also, deleting the page and renaming previous page left 33 dead links - which I have now repaired. Please could Woodleigh School be reinstated with a disambiguation or redirect to Woodleigh School, UK.

Incidentally, the correct name of the school is Woodleigh School, Langton - and not Woodleigh School, UK.

Okay, now I see. Woodleigh School was moved to Woodleigh School, UK by User:Stevenward33a, is that you? When a page is moved by a non-admin, a redirect page stays behind, pointing to the new location. All I did was to delete this left-over redirect page, because User:Stevenward33a blanked the page, usually meaning it's okay to delete the page. I don't remember and don't see that I've deleted any page about this school. - Dank (push to talk) 04:00, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Ondarun

Hi Dank, You deleted Ondarun page with some reasons. Ondarun is a 16 months French browser-game, 50 000 players. It's now opening in multilanguage, (English, German and French) so I created this page in order to be known by english people.. Can you explain me why did you do that ? Regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lascar33 (talkcontribs) 04:46, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Bienvenue au en.wikipedia. Sure, I mentioned the problem in the deletion summary: "No independent sources, no suggestion that they exist, and no significant hits at news.google.com/archivesearch. See A7 on the "importance or significance" of the subject." "Speedy deletion", as we call it, isn't meant to be perfect, just fair; articles which meet similar criteria are deleted without discussion. One way to solve the problem is to find independent, reliable sources that establish notability per WP:WEB. - Dank (push to talk) 13:46, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Since the article was vandalism-only until you created the redirect, I decided to delete it as db-vandalism per WP:DENY. If you'd now like to create an article with that title as a redirect, feel free. - Dank (push to talk) 14:44, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

If there's enough need for an article on a specific percentile rank, it'll get re-created. Until then, I'll respect the troll's scientifically-controlled diet, and not feed the troll, per WP:DENY. --A More Perfect Onion (talk) 15:16, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Signifigance of the page, Gene Locke.

Ask any informed Houstonian, and they will tell you who Gene Locke is. He was the City Attorney (e.g., the Lawyer for the City), in the 90s and now if a frontrunner for Mayor of Houston. Houston is the fourth largest city in the Country. Other candidates just as notable have wikipdia pages, I see why not this candidate and Politician. Houstonbuildings (talk) 22:07, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

He doesn't meet the WP:POLITICIAN guideline, but there are other ways to get in; talk with the friendly folks at WP:N?. - Dank (push to talk) 23:31, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

SeedSew Performance Company

I see no reason why the article deserves to stay as there was indeed no mention of notability. thank you. --Rmzadeh (talk) 19:42, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, I agree. - Dank (push to talk) 19:48, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

G7 deletion of Melhus church

I see you deleted Melhus church under G7. I believe that the author has overreacted to a comment made by Orland at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Melhus church. I believe that rather than deleting the article, the creator Mbz1 should be given some time to cooldown. I would also like to point out that at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Melhus church, Mbz1 claims that User:Invertzoo, User:Kjetil, and User:Finnrind also helped build the article(which means it may not qualify for G7)Smallman12q (talk) 21:21, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree. The article was earlier today moved to Melhus church and Controversy of the Petter Dass portrait. Then moved to Melhus_church_and_controversy_of_the_Petter_Dass_portrait. Then there was a copy-paste move back to Melhus church. If you look at the edit history of the article, you'll see that it did not qualify for speedy deletion. There was much potential in the article. Please restore. Rettetast (talk) 22:49, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, all edits (except the redirect) are now restored to Melhus church and controversy of the Petter Dass portrait. If it gets copy-pasted again and the history gets lost again, let me know please, because that violates the GFDL license. I don't have any suggestions on the article name, that was just the last version that had the history intact. - Dank (push to talk) 23:36, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, what put me off was not the comment that Orland left at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Melhus church, but rather the comment that Orland made at the talk page of the article. I put in the article practically everything I could find on the subject on the NET. It took me hours and hours to search and translate from Norwegian (and I do not know Norwegian at all) to get some information about the church. Of course I agree that controversy of the Petter Dass portrait takes the biggest part of the article, but it is not because I wanted to make a point, but simply because I found the biggest ammount of information about this particular matter. When I started working on the article, I did not know about this portrait at all, and once again I did not try to make any points. I simply put the information from very reliabale Norwegian sources in the article. On the other hand Orland might be right that this info should have got to Petter Dass article. If the info of Petter Dass portrait is taken off from the article I started, there would be almost nothing left to keep this thing as an article at all. That's why I nominated it for speedy that probabably was not fair to other users involved in the creation of the article.Thank you all for the comments. Sorry I took your time.--Mbz1 (talk) 00:40, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for restoring it.Smallman12q (talk) 00:41, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

DRV notification

I forgot to notify you yesterday, drat it. A user posted a DRV for JoomlaLMS, an article you speedied, at the wrong place (the AfD log page), and I moved it to the right place—Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2009 May 29. I have no interest in the article (which I can't even see) or the DRV; but I should have notified you of the DRV's existence, since the nominator didn't. Deor (talk) 00:01, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks much. - Dank (push to talk) 00:05, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

I don't know where to talk with you. Yesterday you deleted my article. Kind for your information alexa ranking of www.imagedesi.info is really between 30000-40000. Check it [7] now. You see about www.imagedesi.com & delete my article. If you delete the post of new user then how I will be active user of wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Piratesbi (talkcontribs)

Okay, I copied the article text to your talk page when I deleted the article because I thought you might want to keep trying. You had no independent, reliable sources, nothing that you said in the article suggested that such sources might exist, and this news archive search gives no hits at all. The friendly people at WP:N? are good at helping you with your first article. - Dank (push to talk) 03:25, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

>I'd be really interested to know what proportion among the articles deleted as G1s could NOT have been deleted as G2 or G3 instead.

For me, the proportion is 0%. I don't think the tone of "nonsense" and "gibberish" is helpful in the G1 templates, so I never use G1. I've never gotten any complaints that A1, G2 and G3 weren't sufficient. - Dank (push to talk) 12:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. The CSD checkbot log are damn interesting, aren't they? :D --MLauba (talk) 21:01, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
'Scuse me jumping in - I must have one of you guys on my watchlist (I have this bot.....). I have on one occasion nominated a CSD under G1 - someone had posted 'kitten on the keys' - a mixture of random letters and numbers. Only once though - every other time its been just intelligible enough to avoid a G1.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 22:19, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
The CSDcheckbot logs are going to be a huge help. Hi Elen. As long as the current G1 language stays, I'm using G2/db-test for pure randomness. If they start shouting, I tend to go with G3. - Dank (push to talk) 22:32, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
G2 pretty well covers it anyway - we post kitten on the keys all the time at work when testing new functionality.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 22:42, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
