The "preview" button
[edit]When you edit an article, you can use the "Show preview" button to check whether everything looks OK before submitting. It's nicer to other editors who're checking up on articles ;-) Anyway, thanks for contributions. If you have any questions, just ask. Shinobu 15:10, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Need a little help
[edit]Hi!
Thanks for your advice! :) I wonder if you can help me with the following:
- Where are the symbols you use for example to categorise stubs? How do I find them?
- How do I give several different names you can search on to find a specific page? For example, I have started a page about "Tjutjuna". However, it can also be spelled "Chuchunaa", so I want a search on both those words to end up on the page I started. How do I do that?
Bye... --Danielos2 15:18, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Here are some answers:
- The page you'll want to check is Wikipedia:Stub. Basically, your uncategorized stub template is {{stub}}. If you want to indicate that your stub falls into some category, you could say e.g. {{biosci-stub}} if your article is about biology. That way it's more likely that the stub is found by people who are home in the subject involved. A full list of stub-types, as well as what kind of article is still a stub, is found in the stub information page above.
- Wikipedia:Redirect describes how to do this and when you should and should not do this. The simple answer is: #REDIRECT[[pagename]]. When that is the page content, the page will redirect to pagename when opened.
- And here is a litte tip: by using the [+] tab, you can start a new thread on a talk page. I've also put a link at the top of my talk page which should do the same, but the [+] tab works on all talk pages.
- Yours, Shinobu 15:39, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Alternative answer...
- Those symbols are called braces I think. They are found (on my keyboard) above and to the left of the enter key, used by pressing shift-[ or shift-]. When you have something like {{Russia-stub}} the braces make a tempate.
- You can create a redirect. For example at the page Chuchunaa you would paste in the text: #REDIRECT [[Tjutjuna]]. Keep in mind that the "Search" results only get updated weekly or so, but the "Go" should work quickly.--Commander Keane 15:41, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

In response to your question
[edit]Hi, I was just wondering if there is a way to see a list of the most popular and most frequently visited sites on Wikipedia? --Danielos2 20:07, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- You can see the popular pages page here. This is a list of pages with over 10000 hits. For other statistics, see the statistics page at wikimedia.org. However, this page became extinct in late 2004. Also, look at the most linked to pages here, the most linked to images here, and the most linked to categories here.
I would also want to know if there is a way to know how many visits there have been to a particular site. For example, if I start a new article, it would be fun to know how many have read/seen it? --Danielos2 20:10, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- As of now, I do not think you can do this. You can try the "what links here" button on the left hand side for that information, if that helps.
Any other questions, ask at bootcamp, or direct them to my user talk page. --Chachu207 20:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- No, there's no way to do that without using a lot of resources on Wikipedia's end. - File:Ottawa flag.png nathanrdotcom (T • C • W) 22:22, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Deletion of article
[edit]I found an article (Inkanyamba) that seemed to be of very poor quality and with no references, probably a bad joke. How do I tag an article for possible deletion?
- Wikipedia:Deletion policy probably has some ideas about deletion. However, bad quality is no reason to delete. Instead you can place {{cleanup}} at the top of the article and someone will improve it. In this case I will improve the article, Inkanyamba.--Commander Keane 08:51, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
From Wikipedia:Categorization
[edit]"Articles should not usually be in both a category and its subcategory. For example Golden Gate Bridge is in Category:Suspension bridges, so it should not also be in Category:Bridges. However there are occasions when this guideline can and should be ignored. For example, Robert Duvall is in Category:Film actors as well as its subcategory Category:Best Actor Oscar. See #5 for another exception. For more about this see Wikipedia:Categorization/Categories and subcategories"
Figured this might be helpful when categorizing items. Cheers! -- Miwa 21:10, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
Report a suspicious user
[edit]I want to report some problems concerning the Wikipedian "Lcoleman@maine.rr.com"
He (the cryptozoologist Lauren Coleman, I presume)seems to use Wikipedia article for very unserious, uncritical and cynical self-promotion and a desire to sell his books. Is it possible for any administrators to look into this and maybe give him a warning to stop this or he will be banned? He gives cryptozoology and Wikipedia a bad name with his shameless sensationalism and self-promotion! Please take a look at his contributions and tell me what you think!
Thanks!
--Danielos2 13:36, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
An admin can ban him from ever editing Wikipedia again. In just a second I'll take a look at his edits and then I'll tell you waht page it is that you will need to contact adminnistrators. ForestH2
Check the page out. If he keeps on going post to this talk page or my talk page. I have added a warning. Since he has not gone through proper warnings, he can't be blocked until the warnings are finished. At current he has 1 or 2 more warnings, I have check the vandalisim warnings page and then he strikes out. Best Regards, ForestH2
Be very careful and watch this user because if he does anything more he could get himself banned. ForestH2
Loren Coleman
[edit]It's not O.K. I am going back and forth thinking about who really is doing bad things. Anways, it's ending up with him changing his user name and sorry for that note I gave you.-Warned Properly. Please talk to me on my talk page, if he does it again, so I can warn him and after that should he do it again, blocked and then after banned. Anways, Regards, ForestH2 (discuss | contribs)
And he should be warned properly before going to the admins. Forest
Coleman's edits
[edit]Oh, I agree with you. I think most of Coleman's edits are nothing but self-promotion. The main things I restored to his page were the references to Weird Ohio and Creatures from the Outer Edge in his list of notable works. These books do exist, and I think they deserve a mention. I also tweaked the description of Jerry D. Coleman as a way of compromising with Loren, who's just going to keep vandalizing that section as long as we describe his brother as a "fellow cryptozoologist." (Yeah, there's a whole soap opera behind that one. The two don't get along with one another, from what I can gather, and they haven't really collaborated on any recent cryptozoological research.) Thirdly, I added a brief reference to Orang Mawas, since Coleman was talking about that cryptid on Coast to Coast AM a few weeks ago.
However, I should have been more clear in my edit summary when I said we were throwing out the baby with the bathwater, because, really, the majority of your decisions have been totally justifiable. I do think we should keep watching his edits, as he seems to think these articles are his personal pages. Cheers, Zagalejo 17:33, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey there, Thanks for your message. I reverted your link because I felt that it did not conform to Wikipedia policy on external links. This was mainly because of the following criteria:
- Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a Featured article.
- Links to sites with objectionable amounts of advertising.
The way the link was formatted also did not appear to confrom with the article. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to message me back. Regards, Jem 18:28, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Crown of Ardania
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Crown of Ardania, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- unsourced
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. βcommand 09:09, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
