Use of non-free content

[edit]

Please be aware that File:Logo from Hurricane High School.png is a non-free file, and as such must adhere to the requirements stipulated at the WP:NFCC policy. Per WP:NFCC #10c, each use of a non-free item must have a rationale on the image description page for its use. However, even if you wrote a rationale it would not be sufficient, as the use you are attempting for this image is decorative only in nature. This is a failure of WP:NFCC #8. Please do not reinstate this image to either 2017 West Virginia High School Boys' Soccer (AAA) or 2012 West Virginia High School Boys' Soccer (AAA). If you have questions about this, let me know. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 13:00, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I informed you above and the NFCC concerns. Yet, you re-added this image to the two articles anyway [1][2]. Why? The restorations are in violation of policy. I am removing them again. Please do NOT restore this image again to those articles as it is a clear, unequivocal violation of policy. If you have questions, ask. Simply restoring them again without explanation and without complying with policy will not do. I am reverting your restorations. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 15:11, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello Hammersoft ,
Sorry for that I didnt saw the message before, I understand, I got the image from the wikipage of the high school. Hurricane High School (West Virginia).
Im still strugling to upload High School Logo Images, it seems Im not doing it right. Danielahustikny (talk) 15:21, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
With respect, no you're not. There are some types of images which are purely renditions of text. For example, you uploaded File:Logo from George Washington High School.png to Commons. That image is "G" and "W" superimposed on one another. Such a logo is not eligible for copyright because it is too simple to attract copyright. See Commons:Template:PD-text, which is what that image should be tagged with, not the cc-zero license it is tagged with now. But, it is at least free from copyright and thus can be on Commons and can be used on this article and others without having to write a non-free use rationale, so that's good. The measure of whether something attracts copyright is something called the "threshold of originality". Generally speaking, if you're uncertain whether something is copyrightable or not, we presume it is, and we don't presume it's available under ANY license unless we can prove it is. In all the images you've uploaded to Commons, you've asserted they are available under a cc-zero license, but there is no evidence that any of these images are available under such a license. Ok so I'm really just scratching the surface here of copyright and how it applies to images. There's a lot to understand. If you have questions about whether an image is free of copyright, or what license to put on it, let me know. You can get my attention by using adding {{ping|Hammersoft}} to your talk page here, along with a message and...importantly...signing your post in the same post you're pinging me. I'll get a notification that you would like my attention. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 17:24, 11 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, 2021 West Virginia High School Boys' Soccer (AAA), is not suitable as written to remain published. Hello Onel5969,
Thank you for the reviews, I have a question, MaxPrep is the biggest High School sport reference in U.S., The register Herald is one of the most reliable coverage of High School Soccer in West Virginia, as well the WV Gazette Mail. I dont know How these is not reliable source for this subject. So my question is: how can I improve the references having all these 3 sources in most of my articles? Danielahustikny (talk) 09:35, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. First, I think you are conflating two different articles you wrote. This one does not have MaxPrep as a ref. Regardless, please remember that to show notability, you must have several in-depth sources about the subject. Not just simply coverage of aspects of the subject. In this particular instance, the subject is the tournament. However, there is no in-depth coverage of the tournament, just WP:ROUTINE reporting about games in the tournament. If you go to WP:NSPORTS, at the top, there is a discussion about what constitutes routine coverage (Q7). That will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Hope this helps. Onel5969 TT me 01:23, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for the information!
First, when I mentioned the websites i was indeed talking about all articles Ive wrote for this tournament, (since most of them you moved to draftspace for the same reason).
Second, the tournament consist of 3 games only, 2 semi finals and a final, so a covarage of all games is the covarage of tournament isn't it? And if its not, i does not seems to have more reliable sources from the one that I've mentioned. Thre is only more articles from same sources.
Its a small state and socce in US is not the most popular sport so covarage of this tournament is not big.
If all that still not qualify, can I still write about the tournament with other way? (I've read the page you send me)
Thanks for all the support and congrats on your awards Onel5969. Danielahustikny (talk) 10:37, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Rather than creating these start class articles with a bunch of information most readers will not find important, you might create a single over-arching article about the tournament, and then have a section which goes into each year, very briefly, with a simply bracket chart. Unlike professional sports, we don't need to see the penalties, the names of the goal scorers, etc., but if it doesn't bloat the article, you could include that information. I don't think the individual years have enough notability, but I believe there's a case to be made for the overall tournament. Onel5969 TT me 10:15, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Onel5969thank you for the reply. I did what you suggest I've already submitted the draft. Danielahustikny (talk) 09:36, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
