it was like two or three years ago and it was a military article about a recipient of a navy cross or air force cross but i think the article has been deleted now. but before the article was deleted at that time there was no discussion on deleting it but it has been now as far as i know. but anyway, im getting off track. i edited and the article (wasnt logged in and didnt have an account back then) and added 1 line and added a source about the fighting from some website i cant remember. came back 10 minutes later and it was already removed and when i hit "history" it simply said it was reverted and didnt give a reason why. i was pretty irked. as i've kept up with random bits and pieces of wiki stuff throughout the years i now know that there's a notability policy or something for military award recipients no matter how good the actual page is. another thing is the expansive bureaucracy on here that makes things difficult, so many rules, policies etc etc. so it's because of those things and the elitist attitude of a lot of contributors here that i've chosen not to contribute full time here. instead i contribute to various wikia's for games and such.    Dainomite  talk    06:41, Monday, 28 May 2012 (EST)

Sounds good, and off I go (off to read the lesson I mean xD). A few quick questions though if that's alright... When I'm done reading a lesson do I respond on your talk page, my adoption page or your adoption school page to tell you i'm ready for the quiz on that lesson? Are all the lessons on my adoption page and all the quizzes on the main adoption school page? Also along the same lines, if I have questions, comments, concerns etc about a lesson do I respond on that specific section on my adoption page? Also, is there an "I was adopted by Bmusician" userbox I can put up? I don't plan on having a ridiculous amount of them, just a half-dozen or so potentially(If I get crazy with it). Sorry about the incredibly late response Worm, I'm a bit hesitant because I don't want to waste your time if I'm not super active on WP like I am on a Wikia I contribute to. I might have a few questions from time to time, such as, how do I join Wikiprojects. Also, I want to take on an Article for creation for Safe Boats International, LLC and was wondering how I should get started because it looks very daunting being a first time contributor and even with WP:AfC and WP:YFA.—  dainomite  

Don't worry about it. I'm happy to just be a target for your questions, especially if you don't mind them coming from other people on my talk page. I've got a lot of people who help out with good answers over there... you're welcome to join in the fun! Joining a wikiproject is really easy, you just choose the wikiproject and put your name in the members list! Then it's just a case of looking at their pages and seeing if there's anything you can do to help.

Creating an article, I'd recommend starting in your userspace. User:Dainomite/Safe Boats International, LLC might not be a bad place to start! I always start by working out a vague structure based on a similar article (putting in the titles) then adding information and sources to each section. Just see what happens when you start writing!

Finally, I'm afraid your signature is a bit of an issue. Per our policy on WP:SIG, it can't be transcluded. What's more, it should be under 256 chars, which yours isn't. You might want to do a bit of a re-design. Worm^TT(talk) 13:58, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Dainomite! I see you have some bare URLs (which can cause link rot), how about putting them into citation templates? An easy way to convert them is using Reflinks; to do that just click here and paste the name of your page into the field, then hit enter.

Also, maybe you could provide more references, and add an infobox (such as {{Infobox company}} :) benzband (talk) 21:41, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi there! Any other advice other than adding the infobox and making the raw url references into citation templates? I'm thinking {{Cite web}} for the cite template, or would there be a better one? Although I accepted it, it needed some additional editing to remove over detailed and over promotional wording. I did some-- more is necessary, and I leave that to you. The exact price of contracts is not encyclopedic material, as long as the article gives needs the impression of it being a very substantial contract. Including the bureaucratic jargon for the various missions isn't encyclopedia either, not are the names of the executives beyond the CEO. We din't say "various sources" -- rather, we simply cite them. An d there is a real problem about the section which you had in the introduction, but I moved to "Earmarks" This material must have some additional sources and be worded very carefully. I didn't do this for you, because first you should get at least one additional source. Negative implications are something we are very careful about. You may want to use a short quote.

That's my evaluation. People do here what they like, and I just concern myself with getting articles suitable for userspace. Anyone who wants to evaluate them can do so. You could ask a relevant wikiproject, but it would be better to improve the article before that. ` DGG ( talk ) 00:31, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Okay, I gotcha, yeah I'm still getting used to the writing style, I've asked a few times on IRC in #wikipedia-en-help for how to write specific things like that Earmarks bit but people were more-or-less like "Just start writing" despite me saying I wasn't sure how to word/structure it because I don't normally write in that style if that makes sense. daintalk

Hi, I saw you got a little bit of a rough welcome when you tried to chip in at William the Conqueror, I just wanted to say that if you need help with policies or stuff like that feel free to drop me a line. And then as a piece of advice, its generally good not to experiment with Featured Articles or other reviewed content unless you are absolutely sure everyone will consider your change to be helpful - people have spent a lot of time and efforts making sure they are of the highest quality. A good rule of thumb is: if in doubt make a suggestion on the talkpage first. On the bright sight there is a lot of non-featured low quality content where pretty much any change will be considered an improvement. I tend to focus on those myself. Happy editing, and I hope you haven't been discouraged by the bit of defensive postures you've been met with. (edit conflict) Don't feel bad, just learn from the experience. I've been here forever, but I know I'm not 1/4 the author as some of these FA guys, so I still tread lightly or just use the talk page. Most of them are exceptional editors but can be temperamental about articles that are already at FA status. Don't take it personal. I have really thick skin, so I've managed to learn a lot from them and just blow off the commentary. They don't mean it personal, it is just their way. I will dare to say that many of our best authors are not the best at communicating with others. Those are different skills. Ignore the bluntness, but take the lesson to heart and it will make you a better editor/author, here and in the real world. Thanks for the words of wisdom Dennis. I have indeed learned many valuable lessons from that incident such as collaborate/discuss more changes rather than adding to an article (especially GA/FA articles). It will take me a tad to get the grasp of some of the references stuff. For example, I had no idea that one of the references I used was from a self-published book. Regarding the 'Mods' section in Crusader Kings 2

I noticed you reversed its removal before and that you're actively editing the article despite the fact it's not in accordance with WP:REL and only acts as self-promotion towards the makers of the mod. To illustrate this with an example, the GTA San Andreas article does not mention MTA or San Andreas Multiplayer, despite their popularity and gigantic playerbase(Something that the Game of Thrones mod does not share, might I add). I'd appreciate if you could comment on the section I made in its talk page to further clarify your stance. --IdanElh (talk) 12:31, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Funny story - I got an email the other day from another SSgt that you actually replaced in the AEG. He had a question about the article and whether some content should be included or not. He figured since I am also AF and a Wikipedia administrator, that I could give him some insight. I told him that whether Wikipedia includes it or not is up to Wikipedia and we can't go around removing things that the Air Force doesn't like. On the other hand, we shouldn't be adding things that are sensitive per OPSEC. When I looked at the article, I saw a photo that had some of the information. I clicked it, and saw that it was also linked on your service record. Followed it there. I emailed the guy to ask if he knew you, and he said your rotation must've replaced his. Anyway, that's how I found you. The funny part is that I am often involved with some of the editors above, so I'm surprised I hadn't seen you earlier.

I got into ASOIAF a couple weeks before A Dance with Dragons came out, so by the time I caught up, ADWD had just released. So I haven't had to wait on this author before. I am used to waiting for good ones though, I had to wait 3 years for The Omen Machine by Terry Goodkind. But 5 years is a long time and seems the norm for this author. Looking forward to it though. The only part of the series I was disappointed about was the red wedding, but I've come to admire the author for having the balls to pull a stunt like that.--v/r - TP 00:13, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Hah, that's pretty funny. I thought about adding a picture or two to the Eskan Village / 64 AEG pages. Also, I noticed that the average user can't rename files and I was wondering if you could rename File:64AEG 1010.JPG to File:64AEG 2010.jpg (or any title you think fits better). Maybe it's just my OCD but it drives me nuts that the "jpg" is in all caps and 1010 is so close to 2010 which would be correct as far as the date goes. I hated the red wedding too, I was so pissed when that happened. That's one of the few times reading a book has caused me to get angry while reading haha. I like that GRRM is willing to kill off main characters but the Starks/Winterfell go through such hell. I don't think another family goes through that much misery in the novels with their family being killed off, crippled etc. I think it's sort of funny that the people I like in the story are all minor characters, such as Arthur Dayne and Randyll Tarly. By the way, Terry Goodkind is an amazing author, i've only read the Sword of Truth series though. daintalk   17:38, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

The Omen Machine picks up where Confessor left off. I think GRRM is purposely tearing the Starks apart because they are going to win in the end. It'll be one of those "no matter what they've been through" sort of deals. I can't move that image because it's actually not on the English Wikipedia. Yeah, that's the main reason why I have a hard time accepting that Ned would cheat on Catelyn. And if Lyanna made Ned swear to keep quiet before she died in the tower of joy then Ned has the integrity and honor to keep that promise. Arg! I'd be the "other SSgt" that TParis is refering to I worked the armory and handed out weapons cards to you guys when you got there :) I saw you added the group photo and it linked to your service record. I honestly didn't think any other cops edited Wikipedia. Since you were at EVAB, I was wondering if you had any pictures of the villas that could be uploaded? Re: Task Force

I'm not entirely sure, I've never started one myself. From what I've gathered in my time here, it seems like only the largest scope WikiProjects do okay; it seems like a lot of the smaller WikiProjects and Task Forces tend to run out of steam relatively quickly. So I've never bothered to try to make one myself.

You could probably just ask if there is interest at the talk page at WikiProject Video Games. If they think it's plausible, they'll help or point you in the right direction, and if they don't, then you can still use WP:VG as an area to pose questions or ask for help on working it. Without you bring too specific, I can suggest that the image size for an infobox should be between 150px to 200px, see what fits each image best. Most infobox templates have an image parameter so you shouldn't need to put thumbnails in. Is that what you needed, if not please ask. Rcsprinter (gas) @ 22:27, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I apologize, I meant it in the context of I stumbled across some other guy (who ended up getting blocked) who was editting tons of articles changing the infobox pictures to 450px thumbnails of the picture that was already present. It was super odd. So I was refreshing his contribs page every 10 minutes and undoing all of it and left him a few talk page messages so I was hoping to include how that is against the MOS if it indeed was against it. I like the idea of including the musical note graphic in the box (provided the teeny star is the predominant image. I let my wife decorate, so I have little experience with selecting colors. I am realy a content person, not a computer person, so I would be lost in discussing parameters, but I would not restrict its use by anyone who wanted to. I doubt the 720th Ops Spt Sq will ever merit its own article, and IIRC the 10th Wx Sq may have had an article deleted in the past for lack of notability. My info on the 23d has a gap that I don't know whether it was caused by a brief period of inactivation or not. It was assigned directly to 23d AF as late as 1 Oct 1987 as the 1723d Combat Control Squadron. It was part of the 1720th by 1 July 1989 as the 1723d Special Tactics Squadron (it was consolidated with a WW II unit, the 23d Fighter Control Squadron in May 1992 and the consolidated unit was designated the 23d Special Tactics Squadron). Same thing happened with the 24th. I have less info on the 22d, knowing that it was assigned to the group and was at McChord by 1996.

Or a link to the article to get a feel for what the individual was doing? For instance, they could have been teaching recognition classes about enemy equipment, armor, uniforms or maybe identifying targets for aerial bombs, Targeting (warfare), imagery analysis, image analysis, intelligence gathering or a lot more depending on the context. Thanks for getting back to me with these suggestions. I have the reference in book at home, (pretty much all my postings are based on a book that I have at home) but I don't currently have a computer at home (See: Real life and its implications for wikipedians) so have to do this from work. Which is not always convienient either, but is possible. The book states that he taught "recognition" and that he was called to the carpet (or what ever they have in the military) for teaching art in his classes until it turned out that his students did much better at "recognition" than folks taught the other way, so his techniques were adopted by all. I imagined it was 'Which tank or airplane should you shoot at" sort of stuff, but since wikipedia is not really a repository for what crawls out of my imagination, I thought I'd ask around. 24th Special Tactics Squadron

Also, when being told you had a question on the 24th, I looked at the table you made for the unit's decorations. I agree that the idea of a table is good, but perhaps a bit of tweaking is left to do before I steal the format.

I've just been doing a bit of editing on the 91st Missile Wing page and it strikes me that things like the Mackay Trophy could fit in the table as well (if images are available it would be even better).

However, in making the table, you have used the ribbons for the unit awards. Units don't get the ribbons (individuals do), they get streamers. Although I didn't do it for the 24th, I have created something similar to the display you changed (using the streamer) for other units while removing ribbons from infoboxes or elsewhere.

The problem with streamers in a table like you created is that they lose their individual characteristics when reduced to to fit in the table. At least is needed to distinguish the colors. This could be fixed by expanding the left hand column in the table, though.

Yeah, I liked the format of the table for organization and display purposes rather than the old format I was using. The only reason I chose the ribbons instead of the streamers is for conserve space. I'll probably change them to one of the two options below.

I prefer the second option (enough to steal it and apply it) -- it uses less vertical space and the streamer is distinguishable (including the text). I haven't looked yet to see if some of the streamers with more complex color patterns lose resolution in this format, but if they do, there's the first option to fall back on. I added in a third option Lineagegeek, what do you think? I swapped the streamer and award columns around, just to see what it looks like compared to option 2. We could also adapt it for campaign streamers at this point as well. I just undid your revision to the awards for the wing. I have never seen this before, but the wing (and some of its subordinate units) was awarded a single AFOUA for split dates per the reference. I just counted, we've reverted IP 23.17.101.129 (talk · contribs) 5 times directly and twice indirectly over the issue of China (and now the Phillipines) in the infobox, and throughout the process there has been no hint of an attempt at communication. Is there a need to take it further to another venue (and if so, where?), or should we just keep on reverting? Consensus from us "established" editors is to keep the other countries out - I've seen China, Russia, UK, Turkey (...?!), and the Phillipines, and maybe more. Ansh666 04:12, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply Ansh, I'm on vacation at the moment. I don't think there's anything to do about the IP editor since they edit it so infrequently, maybe if they did it more and in a quicker succession we could do something. Hopefully they will just stop on their own. Oh, just trying to get your opinion here but what are your thoughts about making a section about the wind-down/de-escalation of events and an example of content would be how NK is offering to hold talks and other stuff. I think if we don't do something like that then people will just keep adding more and more events which would make it seem like the crisis would be going on for longer than it has. I did see some news article yesterday that talked about how the "North Korean tensions were at it's height from X month to X month", but that was while I was reading the news on my phone so I couldn't bookmark it to save it for using it in the article. French Croix de Guerre with Palm

The most common ones (pre Mideast engagements) are

• Gallantry Cross (Vietnam)
• Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation
• Korean Presidential Unit Citation

Do you realise that this is the subject of an ongoing debate? See the talk pages for Deadmaus and MOS:TM. The appeal to Google hits you've made in the edit summary has been made in these discussions, including the original RM that resulted in the move from Deadmau5 to Deadmaus. So, you're not pointing out something that hasn't already been pointed out many, many times, and has not swayed any of those in support of the original RM. The primary styling of the artist's name should match the style in the article title, with any significant alternative stylisations in parentheses alongside the explanation of pronunciation. If you think the quantity of Google hits is a decisive point, then make that point in the relevant discussion (though, as I say, it's been made ad nauseum), but it's not grounds for making an executive decision on the styling of the name in the lede, which should match the article title. 1) WP:NPA doesn't regulate against impatience or curtness. It regulates against derogatory comments made against contributors, such as: "Feeling feisty are we wetdogmeat? You're an angry little chap. Lighten up." 2) You're contradicting yourself. Either consensus has been reached or it hasn't. Yeah, there's a dubious RM still open. If we assume that it's a legitimate RM that may actually result in a move so soon after the closure of the previous RM (which it won't), then it's still open, and therefore no consensus has been reached. If we assume (more realistically) that it's an illegitimate RM that won't result in another move because it was opened right on the heels of the closure of the first RM, then consensus has been reached, and that consensus is "Deadmaus". TemplateData is here

Hey Dainomite

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

I didn't expect that it would be a controversial move. West Germanic and North Germanic are primarily linguistic terms. Therefore i thought it would be more suitable to merge Category:West Germanic peoples and Category:North Germanic peoples into Category:Germanic peoples. I would oppose such a merger. Germanic - like West Germanic and North Germanic - is a linguistic classification, and we shouldn't use it to categorize ethnic groups and especially not national groups where the connection between language, culture and ethnicity is much more complicated.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 20:42, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

With participation in 2013 Korean crisis in mind, maybe 2013 North Korean cargo ship confrontation in Panama would interest you - it's a breaking news-type article in need of either expansion or reorganization (though my attempt to convert it into something like 2013 South Korea cyberattack was reverted), and I can't really find more to expand on. @Patroit22: Hopefully this clears things up a bit. The article shouldn't read like "on july 5 he was in the russian airport" then later on "on july 18 he was still in the russian airport" and "on july 23 his lawyer said he was in the airport". It's unnecessary and I was trying to prevent it from becoming that. We have to keep in mind that this is an encyclopaedia and we should write from a historical and long-term viewpoint instead of overdocumenting and repeating minor facts. I'm sure whenever he actually leaves the airport it will be covered in the article and then we should have one statement of "he went from hong kong to a moscow airport" then later on "he left the moscow airport". Heya Dred05m, I can't say i've ever heard of a "chimena diaz", I have however heard her referred to as "Jimena" and "Ximena" quite a bit. A quick google search yields 6[1] results for "Chimena Diaz" and 88,000[2] for "Jimena Diaz". One thing that wouldn't be a terrible idea would be for her article to say "(also spelled Chimena)" and then add links to reliable sources that refer to her as "Chimena Diaz". — -dainomite   19:41, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Yes, parameters in MediaWiki messages are named differently from templates. The caller never names them and the message code calls them $1, $2, ..., where a template would have called them {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, ... MediaWiki:Login-throttled was made for Special:UserLogin where it's called with the parameter "5 minutes" in English: {{int:Login-throttled|5 minutes}} renders as

You have made too many recent login attempts. Please wait 5 minutes before trying again.

But MediaWiki:Login-throttled is also used for Special:ChangePassword where it's apparently called with no parameter, so the parameter name $1 is displayed instead: {{int:Login-throttled}} renders as
