Hi DaGizza, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for joining the coolest online encyclopedia I know of. I hope you stick around. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. Check out the simplified ruleset. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines.

1. Write from a neutral point of view
2. Be bold in editing pages
3. Use wikiquette.

Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.

In general, we can't use photos that are taken from other web sites, only ones that we've taken ourselves, or that we have permission from the person who took the photo. Sad, but that's the law.

I was about to start contributing again but one of your edits cured me of that idea. You removed this passage from the Lanka article: "In Hindu astronomy, Lanka is the name of an imaginary island located where the longitude passing through Ujjayini crosses the equator." THIS IS ABSOLUTELY ROCK-SOLID INFO. (except that some other retard changed "prime meridian" to "longitude (What the hell is that about? Is prime meridian synonymous with longitude?? Unbelievable stuff). WHY DID YOU REMOVE THIS? Perhaps to chase off the competent, allowing you to pose as half-competent.

Kamsa

Hi

I just saw that you moved the original Kamsa article to Kans, with a note saying 'that is how it is pronounced' or similar. I'd have to disagree; that is how some people pronounce it. The original is Kamsa, and we ought to stick to that unless the alternative gets established in English. If we were to go down the road of using modern pronounciations in specific non-English languages, then for instance, Balarama could be either Balaram or Balram. Yagyas

There wasn't an edit war on Yagyas. In September a troll called Skyring was banned for stalking and abusing various Wikipedians. He is banned for a year from editing any articles on Wikipedia. Last night, as part of his campaign to continue to attack Wikipedia, he created a stream of sockpuppets to "edit" various articles. As per the arbcom ruling banning him, all his edits were rolled back and articles he created using them deleted. He created a large number of sockpuppets to target the Yagyas article. All the edits were reverted, his sockpuppets banned and this article protected. User:TheOneGirl is one of his sockpuppets.

Skyring is regarded on Wikipedia as an asshole, but then he earned that reputation long before his antics on Wikipedia, as Australian users revealed on the wikilist, when discussing him. One Australian who mentioned Skyring's edits on other sites called Pete Skyring "complete bonkers", another "a nutcase". The possibility about going public about his antics on Wikipedia is currently being discussed, as are some legal options. Slán. FearÉIREANN\^(caint) 19:23, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Transcluding article namespace

Please refrain from transcluding the article namespace. The article namespace is not be to used for this purpose, and it creates the illusion that the Wikipedia has more articles than it does. Furthermore, the articles you create and leave behind in the article namespace creates a virtual paper trail that is difficult to follow. --AllyUnion (talk) 08:56, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

Of the process of transclusion. Basically, you created the article Bangladesh v India 26 December 2004 and transclused the article on to List of major upsets in One Day cricket by placing the text as {{:Bangladesh v India 26 December 2004}}. Wikify?

Sir, I have no doubt you must have had some good intention when tagging my creation Hill States, but I'm afraid in my experience the response to such tags I noticed never seems to be worthwhile- therefore my guess is most contributors, like me, either haven't got the foggiest idea what "wikify" means concretely in their case (the guidelines seem pretty vague and open to wide interpretation) and/or don't care for them (I admit for me content is the measure of all things wiki, formal appearence won't keep me awake), so the tagging either has no effect or only demotivates content contributors, and surely neither can live up to your expectations.

Therefore I can only suggest you either specify what exactly you believe can be improved, or -even better- give the good example, otherwise I'm afraid your tagging efforts are likely to be wasted. Fastifex 14:49, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

And yes, you do have a point, I sometimes leave a messy impression due to edit-considerations. Generally these defects are temporary while the work is in progress, which may take quite some time: after only half a year as a Wikipedian I already have a watchlist of over 600 pages (nearly all after at least one contribution), so there's never a shortage of 'distractions'. Furthermore my somewhat more ambitious projects often involve quite a complex bit of puzzling- for instance my Word-notes on Indian Princely States (from several sources, just the most essential data in tabel form!) which I can se use for in hundreds of articles, are nearing 2Mb and still growing, just to give you an idea it is not realistic to just go over it all and pen together an easy conclusion.

May I also point out that a reliable source is not defined by its affirmativeness, but rather dares to state what is not known. Still you helped me realize I'ld do better to replace the "(title?)"s with a single notice so it looks less messy. Fastifex 21:39, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

What are we talking about?? the para you erased was: "Calling up a prayer that she may, in some future birth, be born the daughter of a father whom SHE could respect, Dakshayani invoked her yogic powers, and immolated herself." Where is the quotation in this?

Without this line, the storyline is disjointed. In fact, this self-immolation is the crux of the whole story. From your comment that it seems "randomly inserted", it is clear that you have little knowledge of the legend. Therefore please do not intervene in the page: I am feeling nervous about your threat that "Becaues of the terrible state that Dakshayani is in, a lot of good writing may also be deleted in the near future..." The page is NOT a mess; it is a lineal story and is told lucidly. The language is excellent. Please let others handle it.

There do not seem to be any controversies related to this article; the talk-page has not been added to in a month and is even otherwise very small and cordial.

Hindu-Arabic numerals

Hi! User:RN moved the article to Arabic numerals despite 28 votes favoring the title "Hindu-Arabic numerals" and only 17 favoring "Arabic numerals." He argues that if we don't count voters with less that 150 (or sth like that) edits, only 56% voters "support changing the title to Hindu-Arabic numerals", while at least 60% support votes are required. However, it was agreed between all parties in the beginning of the vote that the proposal is to move the article to "Arabic numerals" from "Hindu-Arabic numerals." It was also agreed (though I thought it was very unfair) that:

• Those opposing the move have the advantage that it won't be moved unless there's a 60% majority
• Those supporting the move have the advantage that the person proposing the move can do the *short* opening statement.
• For all the rest of the voting procedure both parties are equal. (quoting Francis Schonken from 21:04, 18 December 2005 (UTC))

I would definitely have preferred it the other way round, since I think an opening statement makes a HUGE difference, since many people just read the opening statement and understandably don't bother with the discussion below the votes. The present situation was accepted with the agreement that the article will be moved to "Arabic numerals" only if more than 60% voters favored that title. Thus, only 40% oppose votes were sufficient to retain the title "Hindu-Arabic numerals." In the present situation (with over 60% voters opposing the change), I find the move to "Arabic numerals" ridiculous, besides being completely unjust and unfair. Cricket terminology page

I added a few items and noticed a message saying that the page is now over 62k in size which is above the recommended size. Is it time to split this page up?
