Maritime Archaeology of East Africa Peer Review
[edit]Hello DaFlyingFishmonger, its me, (AmaranthRose (talk)) You have a good start so far, obviously you will need more information. But this seems like a good start, and you have created the page so that's a plus. Some things that I would recommend would be more specific when it comes to your article which would also create more information and more space. For example you say "While the use of ocean marine resources dates back to as early as 60 kya in South African sites such as Blombos Cave, and later along the East coast" But what are some examples of later along the East coast? Also you should start linking more of the sites and places to other wiki pages, when I come to the page it says help I need more links and more references. I would also recomend that you have all the same time labels. Meaning if you use BC then stick with BC that might mean that you have to do more conversions but I think that it is hard to understand when you say BC and then 60 kya. Hope this helps -(AmaranthRose (talk)) —Preceding undated comment added 13:56, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Peer Review
[edit]You have a great base and I'm excited to see how you expand it! I think a good thing you could do is go more in depth about some of the sites and what was found there, otherwise this article might be more about the maritime history of East Africa, rather than the archaeology. Linking more to other pages would also be a good idea, especially on lesser known sites like Zanzibar, Lamu, and Kilwa, if its possible. Having a "See Also" section at the end could help as well, with it listing other topics related to maritime archaeology in this region. It may also help to add maps with the locations of some of the larger, more well known sites along the eastern coast. Peryalacoirea (talk) 18:53, 16 November 2016 (UTC)
Article feedback
[edit]Excellent start on your article Maritime archaeology of East Africa. I have a few suggestions that may improve your article:
- It's not clear what you are referring to when you say "LSA sites". Is this a reference to Later Stone Age? You might consider adding a wikilink to the relevant article or reword this sentence to explain what LSA means. Remember that you are writing for a general audience who might not be familiar with common archaeological terms and abbreviations. You might also consider more wikilinks in general, such as for specific geographical locations.
- Your third reference, from the JSTOR database, should be in the same format as the other references, including information such as author, the name of the journal, and the DOI, if available. If you are using Visual Editor, in most cases VE will automatically create the proper citation in wikitext when provided with a stable URL from JSTOR.
- Consider adding some images to the article, perhaps using related articles like Periplus of the Erythraean Sea as inspiration. You can use images from Wikimedia Commons or find images to upload yourself following the steps at the Finding images tutorial. See our module Contributing Images and Media Files for more information on how to properly find and use images on Wikipedia.
