Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Cynthiaboardoftrade. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Bridgitte Anderson, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Longhair\talk 20:06, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Bridgitte Anderson
[edit]Hello Cynthiaboardoftrade. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Bridgitte Anderson, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Cynthiaboardoftrade. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Cynthiaboardoftrade|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}
. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Longhair\talk 20:22, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I am not a paid advocate and am not being compensated for editing the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cynthiaboardoftrade (talk • contribs)
- So you are an unpaid volunteer worker for Greater Vancouver Board of Trade? Your username indicates you have a very clear conflict of interest with the topic of Bridgitte Anderson and also Greater Vancouver Board of Trade. May I suggest that you make use of the edit request feature from this point onwards so that any potential issues of conflict of interest are removed from your editing thanks? -- Longhair\talk 20:36, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
This page at LinkedIn suggests you are a paid employee of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade in the role of Digital Marketing Coordinator. Is that correct? -- Longhair\talk 21:28, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I am actually just a summer intern, I was hired by a third party organization and placed at the Board, so I wasn't entirely sure if that meant I was a paid employee. I think I may have misunderstood the template message as I thought it meant I was paid specifically to create this page- which I wasn't. Based on this, what do I need to do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cynthiaboardoftrade (talk • contribs)
- Thank you for your response. As per the information at Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure can you please edit your userpage to declare your conflict of interest with the topics concerned thanks. You will note that payments can be directly or indirectly, and that "you must disclose who is paying you to edit (your "employer"), who the client is, and any other relevant role or relationship". It does not matter whether you are paid directly by the client, or paid indirectly by an employer on behalf of the client. As mentioned above, please use the article talk pages to request edits to the articles where a conflict of interest exists rather than edit the article directly thanks. -- Longhair\talk 23:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Bridgitte Anderson moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Bridgitte Anderson, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:04, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, just to explain — I have moved this article to the draft space as an alternative to likely deletion on the grounds of non-notability. In order to establish the subject's notability (see WP:N), there need to be references to multiple independent, reliable, secondary sources with significant coverage of the subject. Whether the Vanmag source qualifies, is debatable, but the DailyHive one probably does not, and the third source (Office of the Premier) is primary, so it certainly doesn't.
- Also, the article is unreferenced, apart from one section, which would be a problem for any article, and especially so for articles on living people (see WP:BLP). Content that cannot be supported with reliable sources must be removed; the vast majority of the article as currently written.
- There is also a potential problem with the copyright/licence status of the image used in the article, as highlighted on the image file page. Unless an appropriate licence can be demonstrated, the image will be automatically deleted in approximately one week's time.
- Please address all these issues before submitting the article draft for pre-publication review. Thank you. --DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:23, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I just wanted to clarify what a secondary source is. So a press release or the first published article on a topic would not count as a secondary source, but websites or articles containing info from the primary source counts as secondary? For instance, I can't find any other article where it exclusively talks about the appointment of Bridgitte as the press secretary to the Premier, but there are articles that reference her being the press secretary, but only in one sentence as the article is not about her appointment. Would that count as a secondary source?
- Hi, sorry, didn't know you had asked this question (if you want me to be alerted to your messages, you need to 'ping' me). For an explanation of what a secondary source is, please see WP:SECONDARY, and you may also wish to take a look at WP:RS for what constitutes a reliable source. Best, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:01, 12 July 2021 (UTC)
