Your administrative action
Hello Cyberpower678, please take a moment to review the Wikipedia:Blocking policy - specifically the WP:NEVERUNBLOCK section and its footnote, in relation to your action in Special:Redirect/logid/117573904. The policy was updated regarding this in November 2018. Thank you for your attention to this matter. — xaosflux Talk 16:20, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Xaosflux, that seems rather excessive as a policy. Was this policy change discussed somewhere? I think it silly to sanction an admin that responsibly undoes a block to observe for bot misbehavior. In the bot did not misbehave after it was unblocked. Seems like this would be a good case for WP:IAR. I don’t see any discussion anywhere that disallows an admin from unblocking their own bot after they rectify the issue or observe the bot for further misbehavior. So I’m curious about what the justification was to adding it to policy. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 16:51, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Nyttend added it, with comment here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Blocking_policy/Archive_23#Unblockself . I know there have been discussions about selfbot-unblocks before but none ready-to-hand. –xenotalk 17:03, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Xeno, that doesn’t really affirm that this is a supported change by the community. I get why admins should be disallowed from unblocking themselves, but I I completely disagree that this should be extended to admin-owned bot accounts. At the very least it should be allowed with heavy sanctions for clearly inappropriate unblocks.
- No position for or against right now: just pointing out it looks like a bold (but notified) addition that was not there before. –xenotalk 18:11, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- I will refrain from unblocking my own bots going forward, but I strongly feel an RFC is needed here. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 17:18, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

- It may be - I think this may have come about as precautions following remedies such as in this case (not saying that the same triggered applied here!). I'm in no way calling for any sort of sanctions against you here either. If you think this is bad policy, it can certainly be re-reviewed and amended if there is support - feel free to open a discussion and link to VPP. — xaosflux Talk 17:41, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- Xaosflux, Personally, if what Xeno says is true and the bot part was a bold edit to the policy, then I think, per WP:BRD, it should be reverted first and then discussed. I never even knew that bit was even added to the policy, and it's not insignificant. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:08, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- BRD kinda fades with time, since it was three years ago on a very watched policy page I'd suspect it is a little firmer now. INVOLVED also is at play for unblocking your own accounts - I'd rather see an actual affirmative statement that admins should feel welcome to unblock their own bot accounts to override that get passed. — xaosflux Talk 22:59, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Cyberbot AfD warning
Hey Cyberpower. I vaguely remember mentioning this a while ago, but maybe it got lost in the mix of things. When Cyberbot leaves a warning about removing AfD templates, the section title it uses is a bit unnecessarily verbose. It seems like the bot is using its edit summary as the section title. Could you check? — The Earwig (talk) 05:46, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Cyberbot I/Current AfD's not updating
Hi! User:Cyberbot I hasn't updated User:Cyberbot I/Current AfD's in a week. Is this a bug or has it intentionally been disabled? — MarkH21talk 12:13, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot removing deadlink template
Hi Cyberpower678, I do not have a mediawiki account so am unable to report a bug there. In this edit IABot is removing a deadlink template from this link, which when clicked does appear dead. It is doing this without making any other changes to the article. Most of the FAQ is about the bot tagging a link as dead when it is not, but this seems to be the opposite problem. - Cunard, percent encoding is not really an issue per say. It’ll get resolved though. —CYBERPOWER (Around) 20:18, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- The issue is not that percent encoding will prevent it from getting resolved. The issue is that conversion of the Chinese characters into percent encoding makes the URLs unreadable which makes it harder to catch whether the wrong URL was used or to detect from the URL a summary of what a source says. Would you modify InternetArchiveBot not to percent encode these characters? Thanks, Cunard (talk) 20:33, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- In Nk's comment here in the previous section on your talk page, Nk wrote, "that type of encoding which is also unwanted". This is in reference to InternetArchiveBot changing:

- I think this is a broader percent encoding issue involving Bulgarian and other languages too. Percent encoding these non-English language characters makes them less readable so it would be best not to percent encode them. Cunard (talk) 20:42, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Cyberbot marking users with partial blocks as blocked at RfPP
Hey Cyberpower. I'm going through some RfPP requests and noticed that Cyberbot I left a comment that "This user who requested protection has been blocked." However the user in question has a partial block, imposed a month ago, from an unrelated page. - Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
- An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.
- IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.
- The community authorised COVID-19 general sanctions have been superseded by the COVID-19 discretionary sanctions following a motion at a case request. Alerts given and sanctions placed under the community authorised general sanctions are now considered alerts for and sanctions under the new discretionary sanctions.
Stuck RfA
Could you have a quick look at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/BusterD 2? Linus Van Pelt
Hello, and thank you again for your work protecting pages from persistent vandalism. Where can I find a chart detailing the various tiers of protection that can be applied to a page? I'm asking in case the vandalism of the Linus Van Pelt article persists well into the protection period (expires 29 August 2021). It's a lot of the same thing (the IP users have been asked to desist), and I was wondering what the next step would be if things don't settle down after a reasonable time. At least the page is now being actively patrolled; thank you. — CJDOS, Sheridan, OR (talk) 21:01, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

- I think this is related to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Increase, that for some reason is redirecting users to request protections there. (CC) Tbhotch™ 22:26, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Tbhotch, yeah, that was the result of the 2019 discussion at WT:RFPP, which is finally being implemented – but the substitution of RFPP|ar is currently not interpreted by the bot. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 11:27, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Bad template links
I just made this change to fix links to Template:Admin_dashboard/Button_edit and many others. Unfortunately, relative links don't work when the page is transcluded elsewhere. I don't know if this will have any impact on your bot. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 18:04, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Oh. Sorry, Plastikspork, my fault. I wasn't aware of this issue and hadn't thought about possible effects of the recursive transclusion. We'll need to wait for Cyberpower678 to restore your change, as the bot overwrites it automatically with a revision I had incorrectly declared "ready to be enforced". ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:10, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- ~ ToBeFree, no problem, but hopefully this will be fixed soon? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:51, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
Typo on WP:RPP and gap in archive
The last section linking to the archive index ends with double curly apostrophes instead of double quotation marks. An attempt to correct this was automatically reverted by Cyberbot I (talk · contribs).
A historical archive of previous protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Archive.’’
Also, the archive for October 2013 is missing. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 18:59, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! Interestingly, this seems to have been fixed. Can you confirm, LaundryPizza03? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:13, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, the archive page is still missing, though. I'll mark this section as "don't archive yet". The missing archive page may be a factual representation of an empty log for whatever reason; I'll need to look this up. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:15, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- The typo is indeed fixed now. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 15:17, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
- LaundryPizza03, I’m more of a silent operator these days. I silently fix problems reported to me. :-) —CYBERPOWER (Around) 15:29, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

RPP clerking bug report
The bot removed an RPP request, but failed to move it to the appropriate subpage, here. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 00:19, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Similar issue here: [1][2]. It looks like the bot should be shut off for this task for the time being. Regards, HaeB (talk) 11:15, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi LaundryPizza03 and HaeB, I guess the ideal solution would be fixing https://github.com/wikimedia-gadgets/twinkle/issues/1429 , for which a patch already exists. I have no idea how to push this to happen faster, however. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 13:29, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- @ToBeFree: Thanks for this context about Twinkle, but I don't think it can be blamed here. Rather, the core issue seems to be a malfunctioning of Cyberbot I (a bot should never accidentally delete editor comments), admittedly triggered by the rollout of the RPP changes before phase 3 of your technical roadmap was completed. The bot should be shut off for this task until that issue is remedied. Regards, HaeB (talk) 21:14, 19 July 2021 (UTC)
- The rollout of the page changes was part of the roadmap, phase 2. Updating the tools to use the new pages had to be done after creating the pages. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:18, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Race condition, overzealous archiving?
User:Cyberbot_I archived my request for protection immediately after I made it:
This seems like a bug?
Intralexical (talk) 15:25, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Intralexical, MediaWiki is not immune to race conditions. It would seem the user and the bot edited at the exact same time. —CYBERPOWER (Chat) 07:28, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Cyberpower678: Ah, I see. My other thought was that I might have touched a corner case in the archiving code, hence I felt I should report it.
- So the system MediaWiki uses for detecting edit conflicts requires a certain window of time in between conflicting edits in order to work? Intralexical (talk) 17:06, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- I would assume so, but not a lot. I would venture to say that you and the bot happened to submit an edit at the exact same time and the bot's edit just was queued in after yours.—CYBERPOWER (Around) 12:39, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
Cleaning up old sections
There are a lot of pages, such as Talk:Texas Tech University, where your bot has added lots of "External links modified" sections. On that page, they're from 2017, for example. Could you perhaps make a bot task to remove stale sections that are many years old? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 11:55, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Undoing edit on RPP

Greetings. May I inquire if a fix is in the works to get this report back online? Last report was July 3 and a lot of "bad" AfDs I could have caught and fixed early are now showing up at User:DumbBOT/TimeSortedAfD after languishing for an extended period of time. Thank you for your time and hard work. --Finngall talk 20:31, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- I believe Cyberbot is having issues with AfD's in general; I actually came here to note User:Cyberbot I/Current AfD's is also down. BilledMammal (talk) 04:07, 24 August 2021 (UTC)

InternetArchiveBot in the dewiki
Hello, I am Tenwhhile6, a German Wikipedian. (active in the German Wikipedia).
I saw that you are on the internet archivebot.
Unfortunately, the bot has not been active since mid-August.
Could you tell me why? Or fix the error?
Best regards

Reference issues (Indian websites/newspapers)
Hello,
There is a series of continuous minor errors/issues in several Indian language source citations. I have started logging Bangla for now at: User:Titodutta/Bangla. The issues include:
- incorrect marking of reference language (website is in Bengali, but marked as En-GB, or EN)
- adding unnecessary additional text after page title (not counted yet, but The Times of India does it often, where "Times of India" is added after a page title, which is a duplication of "publisher")
- clear formatting errors.
I am checking patterns now (for now only Bangla, then I can check other Indian languages). The issues which are 100% positive, could your bot fix those issues? I'll be very happy to explain all the tasks in details and to prepare list/check trials. --Titodutta (talk) 20:07, 12 September 2021 (UTC)

cyberbot I wrongly labeling me as blocked repeatedly
Hello. cyberbot I has been labeling me repeatedly as "blocked on Wikipedia" at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Increase after I asked for protection of a page. I am not blocked on Wikipedia, only on one page. Of course if it also labels people partially blocked I have no problem. But certainly it's malfunctioning since it's sending out the same messages. So I hope you can look at it. LéKashmiriSocialiste (talk) 13:08, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – October 2021
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2021).
- Following an RfC, extended confirmed protection may be used preemptively on certain high-risk templates.
- Following a discussion at the Village Pump, there is consensus to treat discord logs the same as IRC logs. This means that discord logs will be oversighted if posted onwiki.
- DiscussionTools has superseded Enterprisey's reply-link script. Editors may switch using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features.
- A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
- Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
- The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.
- Editors have approved expanding the trial of Growth Features from 2% of new accounts to 25%, and the share of newcomers getting mentorship from 2% to 5%. Experienced editors are invited to add themselves to the mentor list.
- The community consultation phase of the 2021 CheckUser and Oversight appointments process is open for editors to provide comments and ask questions to candidates.
Thank You!
