DYK for Lebia grandis
On 5 March 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Lebia grandis, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the ground beetle, Lebia grandis, can eat about 23 eggs (pictured) or three larvae of the Colorado potato beetle every day? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I think your sourcing detracts from this barnstar - adding a Worldlingo "reference" to Jaza'iranaa was a mistake as that is a Wikipedia mirror. Also you didn't format the lyrics, so they all ran on one line. Fences&Windows 00:04, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Well I don't know about the "reference" but I did format the lyrics and it was difficult for me because of the script reading from right to left in Farsi for which my computer was ill adapted. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:54, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Nice work and suggestions
I enjoyed reading a couple of your articles. They are informative, interesting and relatively comprehensive compared to many insect articles that I read.
Two comments? Just based on looking at two articles, I notice a tendency for you to use three words when one would suffice. It doesn't quite qualify as WP:WEASEL, but if you read that Wiki page, it might alert you to being briefer. I'm mentioning this in part because your personal pages shows you are interested in copy editing. I'm a professional editor, and using fewer words is the direction I'd expect you'd take if you were heading that way.
The other comment is just an isolated observation, but when I checked the reference for the somewhat atypical statement: "There are a large number of breadpalms in some locations but on the whole, populations are declining", here [1] it didn't support what you wrote. The reference does not say exactly this, and it leads me to wonder whether you are adding your own knowledge, or unintentionally "putting a spin" on the reference.
Overall, though, I must say, your contributions are a vast improvement on the many Wiki insect articles that just seem to cut-and-paste a dry few facts from some standard source. Enjoy and please continue! 98.210.208.107 (talk) 05:54, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments. I will try to think about not using more words than are necessary. Which particular article did you think too wordy?
- With regard to your second comment, what the source actually says is: "The population has declined by about 20% in the past three generations. Would qualify as Vulnerable under criterion B1a if there were fewer localities and as VU under criterion C1 if the lower estimate of population numbers is correct. The species is therefore listed as Near Threatened." I thought my statement bore this out but I suppose it would have been better to state "There are a large number of locations where breadpalms grow but on the whole, populations are declining" Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:12, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Binomial authorities and brackets
See here. Brackets indicate that a species was originally published under a different genus (in this case Loligo) and that the present name is therefore a new combination. mgiganteus1 (talk) 21:03, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Hi Cwmhiraeth, if you happen to be looking for an article to write at some point, Snek01 suggested wuite a cool bug to me here: User_talk:Smartse#Alecton discoidalis. I won't have time for quite a while, but if you're interested maybe drop Snek01 a note and work on try and get the double DYK hook prepared between you. Hello, very good. I will focus on its gastropod related articles only following few days to accomplish your hook. The Alecton article is up to you. I am not sure if I will find enough info about certain species of Cuban snails. Thank you very much for your cooperation that will hopefully promote snails. --Snek01 (talk) 19:40, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Was this a serious set of queries? Ironholds (talk)
- Yes. Other drives such as this seem to have clear objectives and designs. This one does not, or so it seems to me. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:18, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Going through your points in turn:
- The main page clearly states the drive runs from 1 February to 8 March.
- The involved projects are pretty clearly linked.
- Progress reports are linked similarly clearly.
- I know the winners exist, because I saw them selected, congratulated and sent their stuff.
I'm not going to do a Sven and chew you out, but the central person behind the project is ill. Very ill. She has been ill for many weeks, and we are worried about her. We do not appreciate people rolling up to spit out elegiac poetry and accusing either us or our friends of lying and bullshitting to the community. In future, assume good faith and do the bare minimum to actually investigate before making stupid damn presuppositions and snarky self-entitled commentary, because if you'd made those statements in real life you'd be feeling the back of my fucking hand.
Alright, I'm going to chew you out a bit. Ironholds (talk) 07:33, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- You seem amazingly upset by some perfectly legitimate points I made and extremely rude while you are about it. I'm sorry if the coordinator is ill but the drive does seem poorly organised compared to other drives. Would it not be better to have several joint coordinators?Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:20, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Explain how complaining that available and immediate information is not available and immediate can be considered a legitimate point? What about accusing people of lying, say? Ironholds (talk) 14:34, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Why don't you tell the participants that the drive has finished and publish the names of the weekly winners? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- In the former case, I forgot. In the latter, I don't know - Panyd has them - but I was present when they were announced, and present when the shirts were shipped. Now closingIronholds (talk) 21:00, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

WikiProject Wikify Discussion Invitation
Hi there! You are receiving this message because you are a participant of WikiProject Wikify. After the retirements of our first two executive coordinators, Mono and Guoguo12, WikiProject Wikify is undergoing a period of transition. We are currently holding a discussion to create a plan for the future, find volunteers to help fill our many administrative positions, collect any feedback about what has happened in the last six months, propose some new guidelines, and see if there are any creative ideas to increase participation. We appreciate your input! |

GOCE drive invitation
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting. This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated. We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". |
