Partial blocks
As soon as I posted a response to you at ANI, I got called down to dinner. A lot happened while I ate some really good Chicken Florentine. It looks like my attempt at a partial block with Twinkle resulted in a block notice, but no block. I found the Twinkle dialog very confusing (remember, I haven't partially blocked anyone ever). Can you perhaps explain what I should do as I must've done something wrong. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:42, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Bbb23. I love spinach as an ingredient, wrote Joe's Special about a San Francisco cult spinach dish, and am amazed that Chicken Florentine is a red link. I am honored that a long time administrator is asking me for advice and embarrassed that I cannot help you because I do not use Twinkle or any other semi-automated editing tool. I do everything manually, almost entirely on Android smartphones, just to prove that billions of people could potentially be productive editors if the WMF wasn't actively standing in their way. So, when I block an editor, I use the good old fashioned block menu on my phone, which gives me a very clear menu of choices. Block from all of Wikipedia except their talk page, block from article space, or block from specific page(s). Once I block, I am presented with a menu of talk page templates which I copy and paste to the user talk page. Often, I copyedit the template language to customize to the specific situation. So, I will remove "obviously profane" from the username hard block language if the username is utterly unacceptable for reasons other than profanity. You know, "Hitler is God", or something like that. I like the ability to block an editor from a narrow range of pages where disruption has occurred, in the hope that an inexperienced editor with a strong POV about a narrow topic can learn our norms elsewhere. Always the optimist. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:39, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- An android smartphone?? I don't own a smartphone. I'm painfully replying on a tablet, which I only started doing recently (I normally use a PC with a real keyboard and a mouse - still do 98% of the time). Maybe I'll ask someone else the Twinkle question or more likely maintain my track record of never imposing partial blocks. Nice article - I don't eat beef, but it brings back memories of incredible SF sourdough bread grilled with minced garlic until golden. Ambrosia, although many people stayed away from me for 24 hours.--Bbb23 (talk) 04:04, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, Bbb23, I have been an Android smartphone editor for about nine years or more. Ask Drmies. I used to go into my home office for hours on end, leaving my wife alone in the family room. She objected, and so I said, "I will sit right next to you and we can converse during my breaks, and I will edit Wikipedia on my phone with you at my side." And that is how it has gone since then. I also edit during breaks and slow periods at work. I am a self-employed contractor and sometimes I am very busy and sometimes much less so. So I am never bored, and now I am gathering reliable sources about Chicken Florentine. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:18, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- As for people staying away from you after eating garlic, my solution is to only associate closely with fellow garlic lovers. My wife is a San Francisco native, as are both of our sons, and I have lived in or near San Francisco for 49 years. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:25, 6 September 2021 (UTC
- Joe's Special is great with high quality veggie burgers browned and chopped up. Or with bison. It does not need to be beef. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:28, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
- The only meats I eat are fish and fowl, so I could eat veggie burgers but not bison. I have found, though, that veggie burgers are often dry, so I rarely eat them. I'm a bit of a foodie, and I'm fussy about what I eat. Truth be told, I'm fussy about most things. When I lived in San Francisco, many of my friends were Chinese-American, which meant that most had a fairly hefty dose of garlic on a daily basis, so your point is well taken. A group of people with garlic oozing out of their pores are impervious to its smell.

- I think it's impressive that you still do contracting at your age. We have a married couple who clean our house twice a month. The woman is in her upper 60s and the man in his mid 70s. They are absolutely amazing. House cleaning is very hard work, and I don't know how they do it. The husband, who is as thin as a rail, is so spry he can bend at the waist and practically fold in half to touch the floor. Even when I was in my 20s, I couldn't touch my toes, but the tension in my brain unfortunately pervades my body as well.
- I'm typing this on my PC, which means I can write so much more drivel without a problem - lucky you. Good luck on the Chicken Florentine article. Let me know when it's done.--Bbb23 (talk) 11:59, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
What to do when with those noticeboard things?
Hi Cullen. I see that you're a professional at Wikipedia and I'd like to ask you what to do with those noticeboard things. Perhaps there's a page I've missed from Wikipedia itself but like should I wait for 5 people to give their arguments and then try to come to a conclusion? Or should I wait for like a month then do that? Or is it something else? Thanks. ButterSlipper (talk) 04:18, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
Requesting to move Draft:Kau Ka Pe'a into main space. Newly released album by Grammy® Winner Kalani Pe'a Please advise.Allanbcool (talk) 06:08, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Allanbcool. We never use the registered trademark symbol on Wikipedia, except when discussing the registered trademark symbol itself. This draft has lots of non-neutral language. Please read about the Neutral point of view, and comply with it. It is a core content policy. Your draft needs a heavy rewrite at the very least. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:20, 9 September 2021 (UTC)
- Allanbcool, your username and the text of your draft indicate that you have a conflict of interest regarding Kalani Pe'a. Please conduct yourself in accordance with that behavioral guideline. To be clear, I love Hawaiian culture, but you need to do this right. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:25, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi, can you please take a look at the discussion at ANI. Apparently, there is a meatpuppetry and canvassing case. Thank you.--V. E. (talk) 22:44, 9 September 2021 (UTC)

Ilhan Omar edit discussion
I assume you're message was referring to the Ilhan Omar edit discussion. I edited Ilhan Omars page once to refer to the accusations of Anti-Semitism against her. It was deleted by saying it was related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. I responded, after waiting over 24 hours under edit requests, that what I wrote was not related to Israel but allegations of Jewish power and Double-Loyalty on American Jews by Omar. I was told that I am engaging in a flame war, which I wasn't as far as I'm aware, I responded to the point made. Furthermore, the discussion on the article page about the subject had people opposing it who:
Explicitly said the attack was a smear job in their opinion, showing they weren't exactly in an unbiased place.
Focused on how their weren't anti-Semitism accusations in Trump or "enough" in Majorie-Taylor Greenes. The conversation was not based on her actions but focused on a feeling perceived by editor only leftists are allowed to be anti-Semitic on wikipedia, which is again unrelated.
The sources I cited included:
https://www.ajc.org/news/ilhan-omar-has-a-problem-with-jews
And statements like
Were made and reported on. Their has been a large set of events surrounding her on Anti-Semitism, and the debate has been a defining character of her time in office. I think its an injustice that Anti-Semitism against American Jews is not reported on wikipedia because editors feel its a smear job against Democrats and can't respond to Anti-Semitism accusations without talking about it through the prism of Israel. Therefore I'd like to request my edit be re-instated, or we have a discussion about it. Feel free to go to my talk page for further discussion.
Batsquatch (talk) 02:45, 10 September 2021 (UTC)Batsqutach
- Hello, Batsquatch. I informed you of Wikipedia's strict standards regarding biographies of living people, which is a commonplace notification for those who get involved with such articles. Pay attention to that. On the other matter, you are simply not permitted to edit anything related to the Israel-Palestine conflict until you comply with WP:30/500. That restriction will be construed broadly, with no regard for the violator's ideology. I am not interested in political banter about this topic. That is forbidden to you and I am trying to help you avoid sanctions. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:47, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
Again, what I'm saying is this is not the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is American Anti-Semitism.
- Batsquatch, you are incorrect because much of the substance of the accusations against her is because of comments that she made criticizing Israel's role in the Israel-Palestinian conflict. This is elementary. If you continue on this path, you will be blocked. Do you understand? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:57, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

Responding to Your Note from July on My Talk Page
Hope this finds you well. I should not have thrown out personal attacks against volunteers, and for that I apologize. However, regardless of the experience of the editor in question, they were clearly not acting in good faith. When I merely asked for feedback on the initial decline decision, they very explicitly referred to my article as "crap" and then referred me to a Wikipedia policy that they incorrectly cited in defense of their decision.
After speaking with ColinFine, I can appreciate that the editors here have to regularly deal with businesses and paid contributors attempting to get advertisements disguised as articles submitted onto Wikipedia, and that it causes recurring frustration in your review process. However, rather than work in good faith with me to identify where the issues with the language were, I was written off by the editor. My lashing out was unprofessional, though largely in response to the similar experience of working with someone you consider an experienced contributor to Wikipedia.
I have since amended the contents of my article to a strictly encyclopedic nature with corroborating third-party sources, added some additional elements to the infobox, and have submitted for review. Upon approval, I am also prepared to add a logo in compliance with Wikipedia's non-free use content policy. If possible, I would appreciate if an editor other than Theroadislong could review it.
Thank you for your time. 15:00, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello. Although you have removed some promotional language, your draft completely fails to show that this company meets Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), because none of your references show that this company has been "the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources." The first two references are "Top 40" lists which are not significant coverage. Then comes Google, Ernst & Young , Comvest and the Advertising Specialty Institute. None of these are independent because they all have direct business relationships with the subject. The final two references do not include significant coverage of the company and were clearly generated by the company's public relations efforts. You do not have a single high quality reference.
- The aspersions you have directed at Theroadislong are baseless and unwarranted. That volunteer editor is widely respected and has been a highly active and productive editor for 15 years. Their work to keep the quality of this encyclopedia high may irritate people who are paid to try to lower the quality level. So be it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:46, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
- It is interesting that these concerns about the sourcing were not raised during the initial review of this page. Disqualifying a secondary source on the premise that it is not independent because the publishing entity had any sort of public relations contact with the focus company seems entirely subjective. The names you listed above and similar outlets with identical relationships are cited elsewhere throughout Wikipedia pages of businesses. Check similar pages such as Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (now deleted after I brought it to attention), 4imprint, and CustomInk for examples of companies within the same industry alone.
- Speaking of subjectivity, I would also hardly call mocking someone's volunteer status an "aspersion." I made light of their ability, not their integrity. I would think that a productive editor of a decade and a half could cite the site's policies correctly when accusing someone of doing a poor job.
- I have been grateful throughout my life to the wealth of knowledge that this website has made available to the public. I did all I could to comply with the standards when attempting my first submission in good faith. I hardly imagine another page that provides historical and charitable information about a promotional merchandise company lowers the quality of this encyclopedia.
- Young professionals will always thrive over elderly hobbyists. So be it indeed.
- GeorgeEisner, why did you edit my own comment? That is out of line.
- You wrote
It is interesting that these concerns about the sourcing were not raised during the initial review of this page.
But the decline notice on your draft saysEncyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed.
Did you notice the word "independent" there?
- You wrote
- Your assertion that the requirement that reliable sources used to establish notability must be entirely independent is "entirely subjective" is incorrect. It is a long established objective guideline that is essential to the credibility of this encyclopedia. Any article about a company that does not meet the WP:NCORP guideline does lower the quality of the encyclopedia, which is why many volunteers work 24/7/365 to weed inappropriate content out of this encyclopedia.
- As for your closing cheap shot, that reflects much more poorly on you than it does on me. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:52, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Eggs Florentine
For the first time I just had homemade eggs Florentine, which was rice topped with creamed spinach and eggs sunnyside up. The creamed spinach was made from fresh spinach, half and half, grated sharp white cheddar, and spices (including nutmeg, fennel, and different colored ground peppers). It was excellent.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:53, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

- Sounds delicious, Bbb23 and I am glad that you were inspired by my effort. I bet the fennel added a nice twist, and I will try something similar soon. MarnetteD, I agree with you on the fresh spinach. After many years of cooking with it, I am still surprised by how quickly it wilts down. I want to make chicken Florentine but my wife eats gluten-free, so I cannot use a classic Mornay with a flour roux. I will fake it with heavy cream and an excellent melting cheese. For everyone who likes spinach dishes, check out another one of my articles, Joe's Special. You could use veggie burger, Bbb23. Thanks to both of you. Username
Hello, Jim,
I don't know if this is a record but I just posted a notice on the talk page of JustAReallyRandomNerdWhoKnowsWeirdStuffAndCant'tSpell,AndWhoHasWeirdFriends who has the longest username I've ever run into that wasn't a random sequence of letters & numbers. Just thought I'd share.
Hope you are well. Liz Read! Talk! 00:29, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am doing very well, Liz, and it is always nice to hear from you. Are you telling me that two guys releasing "The Pirate Shanty" on YouTube is not an automatic notability pass? I guess that we are both "deletionists" then, but I can't help wondering which of those guys opened that account with the stupendous username? I hope that's not "outing". Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:05, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
- Lately, I've been spending my time looking at hundreds of stale drafts (I'm reaching burnout on that task) and I think we should redo Wikipedia:No one cares about your garage band to be "No one cares about your YouTube/Twitch channel" or "Not everyone with an Instagram account is an 'Influencer'". You might be surprised at how many teenagers in other countries think because they take pictures of themselves with their iPhone, that they will become famous. I don't know if we'll ever get the message across to wannabes that notability comes first, not after, a Wikipedia article. Luckily, most of these folks aren't persistent and leave after AFC rejects their first draft. It's usually the ones that can't accept "No, not yet" who turn into an admin headache. Liz Read! - Liz, it is amazing how rapidly that "influencer " went from a fringe neologism to a lucrative "profession". Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:25, 19 September 2021 (UTC)

Need your help
Jim, I stumbled upon the Bob Enyart article several days ago, having never heard of him prior to that. As you have probably noticed, there is a user (166.205.141.57 ) who is participating in edit warring and disruptive editing of that article to the point where it has become impossible to edit it. This user has taken control of the article and is holding it hostage, disallowing any edits that he or she doesn't approve. I have reported this via proper channels on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring, but I don't know how long it will take before action is taken. Would you be so kind as to devote a moment of your time to investigating this situation? Since all edits are now being reverted by this user, perhaps their privileges could be blocked if only for a few hours while you and other administrators have time to research the issue. If I am asking for something that is out of line with proper policies and procedures, please advise and disregard. I want to follow all the rules, but I have never, in my professional editing career or 11+ years editing for Wikipedia, seen anything like this. The hubris of this user is not to be believed. Unless I have miscounted, this user has re-added the same userbox, that has been reverted by several different editors, at least nine times in less than 24 hours, which blows the whole "WP:3RR" out of the water. Out of 32 edits that this user has made, all but six have been in the Enyart article. I'm at a loss. Proper notices were given on the user's Talk page. God bless and happy editing. MarydaleEd (talk) 23:25, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

- Thank you. I am trying to prepare the proper report as advised by the administrator who responded on the noticeboard. I appreciate your assistance. God bless and happy editing. MarydaleEd (talk) 01:28, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- MarydaleEd, there is no need to resubmit to WP:ANEW. The edit war is over with my block. Let me know if other IPs or new accounts resume the behavior. I will block them too if necessary. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:38, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- I am more than happy not to have to spend time on a report. Are we not concerned that this behavior will resume in a month? MarydaleEd (talk) 01:41, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- MarydaleEd, it is very easy to block again if the disruptive behavior resumes. Enyart died eight days ago and because he was an antivaxxer, he has gotten an awful lot of attention. In my experience, the attention will be vastly reduced five weeks after his death. We will see. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:54, 22 September 2021 (UTC)

MarydaleEd, I, too had never heard of him until he died. I am interested in learning more about cases like this off-Wikipedia and I think that historians will be writing about the anti-public health, anti-mask, anti-social distancing, anti-vaccine activist phenomenon for decades to come, with a lot of attention paid to those who "died for the cause". Books are still being written about the flu pandemic of 103 years ago . My maternal grandfather's first wife died of the "Spanish flu" in 1919 and as a widower with four children, he married my grandmother and had three more children. My mother was the youngest, born when he was 49 years old. Yes, nice to make your acquaintance and I noticed that you were involved with Phil Valentine. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:33, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yes! You are right. THAT was how I ended up at the Enyart page. The Valentine guy was "In the news" so I started editing his page, then someone tried to link him with the Enyart fellow. I also think you are right about historians writing about the "anti" people, but I doubt those who, as you say, "died for the cause" will even be mentioned, and if so, only as a footnote. I think that speaks to the tragedy of it. One of the things I found truly baffling about Enyart was his determination that certain people with certain sins should be put to death, but he somehow dismissed his own sin of serial adultery - and people still followed him. How do those people make peace with the hypocrisy? Takes all kinds, I suppose! It's been a pleasure to work with you and here's to hoping our paths cross again. Stay in touch. God bless and happy editing! MarydaleEd (talk) 05:01, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hate to bother you again, but you might want to keep a heads up for User 2601:641:480:70b:b8c1:4176:c2c0:c024, whose only two contributions, both on the Enyart page, came within a very short time of the other editor being blocked. I would watch for a sock puppet. It appears that user was created right after the other was blocked. To almost quote a former U.S. President, I will assume good faith, but verify. Disruptive beauty pageant editor
Hi, you have blocked this editor twice, most recently November 2 2020. Since then, by my count, he's racked up six more notices from various editors about disruptive editing on his talkpage. Can you look into it? ☆ Bri (talk) 17:43, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Bri. I have blocked this editor indefinitely. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:22, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
Potential Californios article
Hi, I’m not sure how I could contact you. I’m realizing I can’t write article about Californios restaurant because I have conflict of interest. I was wondering if you’d be interested in writing it. Thank you! Katie.Kroshka (talk) 22:44, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, Katie.Kroshka. Please describe your conflict of interest in detail. Editors with a disclosed conflict of interest can write a draft article through the Articles for Creation process. I can assist you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:09, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
I currently employed by Californios. But I strongly believe they deserve Wikipedia article. Being the only two Michelin star restaurant of Mexican cuisine. I have never wrote a Wikipedia article before. So I’m unsure of how exactly everything works Katie.Kroshka (talk) 01:51, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- Katie.Kroshka, thank you for disclosing your conflict of interest. Please read Your first article and let me know what you think. In brief, an acceptable Wikipedia article summarizes and cites what reliable independent published sources say about the topic. That is why I linked to four such sources at the Teahouse. Perhaps you are familiar with such sources that I could not find in a quick Google search. A lot of "gourmet" sources are not indexed by Google. On the other hand, blog posts and social media posts are almost never useful. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:41, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- Cullen328 I am not a writer and have never edited atricles on Wikipedia before. Would you be able to write an article about Californios? I can provide all the links and media mentions. Or if I can write an article and you could format it for Wikipedia? Let me know if that's possible or how else we can collaborate
- Katie.Kroshka, you are writing just fine. If you begin a draft that is based on summarizing the coverage of this restaurant in independent, reliable sources, then I will help you format it, and get it ready for the encyclopedia. So, the answer is that I am not prepared to do all the work, but I will definitely help you. The most important thing for you to keep in mind because of your conflict of interest is the Neutral point of view. If you write in a dry, "just the facts" style, it will be easy for me to format your work. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:41, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for your suggestions
