Re: Shipra Mazumder

No, that's pre-internet era (for most of the Bengali media). At that time it was covered in first pages of all Kolkata newspaper. In each story contained a parts of biography as here, here, here etc! Ask User:Dwaipayanc, he reads few digital Bengali newspaper regularly, I generally don't and collect references from the two sources I added here a) The Times of India b) Telegraph! --Tito Dutta (talk) 05:00, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I have seen the scant sources in English, but it would be good to have a published profile in any language that gives more than her military rank and the date of the climb. Thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:09, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Trashy Bags article

Hi Jim. I replied to your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Trashy Bags and wonder if you could please reply there. (No need to write anything on my talk page.) Cheers, --Unforgettableid (talk) 19:20, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

I have done so. I, too, oppose incubation. The topic is notable, and the article should stay in main space. If you think that the article is too spammy, Unforgettableid, then please feel free to despamify it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:17, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Regarding your comment

in recommending for deletion the page Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary I have posted the following response:

This article details state and federal investigations regarding the management of funds. Those investigations are not an attack, they are facts. There is a link to one blog, the blog for the Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary which is what this page is about to begin with. The videos are of local investigative news reports and are NOT unreliable sources and show within them, THEIR proof and sources the direct links to which are not available or in any other format to be linked to here. As this page is only one day old of course edits are still needed, but deletion is uncalled for. Nowhere does it state that Ralph Heath is a bad man, however it does indicate actions known in the community and backed up by witnesses and video which necessitated the Movement in the first place. It would make no sense to talk about a movement for change without detailing the reasons why such a movement exists. Nothing stated in the article is personal opinion. The investigations launched by federal and state agencies are not personal opinions, they are facts. The existence of the yacht bought and upgraded with sanctuary money is not a personal opinion it is a fact. The photos taken of underage girls on the Sanctuary propery are not personal opinion, they are facts. No matter how you detail these facts, one can project that the fact that they are being detailed to begin with is not "neutral" but that is not the case. Facts are facts. Remove the link to the blog for the Movement for Change or questionable language but the investigations and their rulings as well as the videos, if you watched them, you would see are not unreliable sources. Forthebirds1 (talk) 14:40, 11 February 2013 (UTC)[User:Forthebirds1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Forthebirds1 (talkcontribs) 14:37, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Response Forthebirds, this specific article is not about the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, as we already have such an article. Instead it is about the "Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary". In order for this article to exist on Wikipedia, the specific topic "Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary" must be notable, which can be summarized as a topic that has received "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". I see no coverage in reliable sources of the ""Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary". All I see is a Facebook page, which is neither reliable nor independent. Accordingly, the topic of this article is not notable by Wikipedia's standards, and the article should be deleted. I do not dispute that some of the sources in the article are reliable, but they are sources describing problems at the sanctuary, not this "movement". In addition, I do not dispute the severity of the problems, but that does not justify creating a Wikipedia article about a "movement" that is not notable. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, a battleground, or a vehicle for propaganda, advertising and showcasing. Wikipedia is not a place to right great wrongs. We expect that every article on Wikipedia be written from the neutral point of view and the article fails that test. It may well be that some of this material belongs in the main article about the sanctuary, but that article ought to be about the entire 40 year history of the organization, and not just its most recent chapter. Any discussion of this controversy in that article must be written in a neutral fashion. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:45, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Response As I indicated a couple times in our other discussion I am completely open to tweaking and adjusting the wording of the information about Movement for Change at Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary. If you will help me update the SSS page instead of creating a page for the Movement then that is fine. You say as long as I comply 100% with Wikipedias policies which is also fine as long as those policies do allow the facts and their sources to be indicated, which is what was already provided. Facts and sources alone do not create a bias and therefore any accusation of the information provided not being neutral is going to be argued with. As long as we can get that straight then a fresh start is welcomed.Forthebirds1 (talk) 17:59, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Forthebirds

I am at work now and will respond at greater length later. In the meantime, please read WP:RS, WP:NPOV and WP:BLP. Videos of news shows hosted on another website are likely copyright violations and we don't link to them. The neutral point of view requires that all significant views be represented. So defenders of the current leadership must be discussed in the article. The biographies of living people policy applies to all mentions of living people. In general, we are very cautious about reporting allegations or accusations about people, even if reported in reliable sources. Not everything reported in newspapers belongs in Wikipedia.

The article on SSS needs references covering the entire history of the group. The current problems can be discussed in the context of that overall history. They should be given due weight.

More to come. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:19, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

So If I find text documents or transcripts of the videos would that suffice in place of the videos? Also the last sentence that was inserted (which completely glosI sed over all the actual problems and isn't giving that side its "due weight") is inaccurate in stating employees were laid off. No one was laid off, 12 employees resigned in protest as did many volunteers, and 2 employees were fired for speaking out. Forthebirds1 (talk) 14:11, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

The Tampa Bay Times says "employees have been let go". Wikipedia reports what reliable sources say. The article is a work in progress. I am removing promotional language. I will add more references. Any references you suggest MUST comply with WP:RS. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:39, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

So if management lies to a newspaper and they repeat that lie, it is treated as fact? Not very reliable. Forthebirds1 (talk) 15:45, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't know why you are indenting so deeply. Surely, you are more familiar with the local press than I am. You can review the press coverage and suggest a range of sources that will give a well-rounded picture. And, from now on, I ask that your comments indicate that you have read, understood and accept the relevant policies and guidelines of this encyclopedia. That is the basis of successful collaboration here. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:51, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Ralph Heath is not a zoologist. Everyone who knows him knows this and it's confirmed by his own mother, Helen Heath. What kind of source is supposed to be given to show someone did not go to college for a profession that once some random person put on Wikipedia? Forthebirds1 (talk) 16:13, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your prompt help. I understand. Interestingly, Radiopaedia has contributed images to Commons, together with an e-mail address to request an image. I followed this and their founder and CEO, very helpful gentleman called Frank Galliard, responded at once. How do you boost an article up the google search results?

Hi. Thank you for your work at the Teahouse. Recently you answered User talk:Knhswiki on a topic named: How do you boost an article up the google search results?. The answer was technically correct, but you failed to warn the user (specifically at the user's talk [page) that s/he was in clear violation of the username rules and based on the subject of the post at the TH, it was clear that the intent was not to improve the encyclopedia. The user has been spamublocked. We would appreciate you issue a warning to them and/or report them to UAA. thanks for your help. -- Alexf(talk) 14:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

I see things a bit differently, though I understand your point. The username policy says that names that "unambiguously consist of a name of a company, group, institution or product" are not permitted. I do not see incorporating the initials of a high school into a username as "unambiguous" in this regard. In all honesty, I didn't even notice the initials until you brought this to my attention. I also disagree that it is "clear" that the editor's intent was not to improve the encyclopedia, as the beginning editor wrote a pretty decent article about their high school, and per WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, established consensus is that secondary schools are almost inevitably notable enough for an article here. The editor's interest in Google search results is a natural one, and asking a simple question at The Teahouse is encouraged. So, I see that this editor's efforts thus far have improved the encyclopedia, and the editor may well have gone on to write more articles about their community or other areas of interest to them. The article is fine though like many here it could use improvement. Accordingly, I feel no need to issue warnings to this editor, or to report them to an administrative noticeboard. Instead, I encourage you to consider unblocking, under the principle of not biting the newcomers. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:57, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
I see your point. Of course schools are not speediable for notability but that is not the case here. Based on your comments I have softened the block. They can now create a new account or request a change of username. Editing with an organization's name (or initials), only editing the article for the organizations (COI) and asking how to improve Google rankings is advertising and it is a violation. They can create a new account, one user, one password per account (i.e. not shared) and they can edit many other articles, or even the school's article as long as they do not do OR, POV, or advertising. Of course you know all of this but it is for reader's benefit. Thanks for your information. -- Alexf(talk) 16:05, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
I normally assume accounts working on school articles are not COI even if they only work on that article - it's one of the first things that school students starting with Wikipedia decide to improve, and with good reason, since most school articles are dreadful. An old adoptee of mine is a case in point; he edited the article about his school a lot, originally having to be warned off the wrong sort of editing, but he never had a COI; he had no administrative control over the school or financial interest, and in fact moved on to a different school (as planned) within a year. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:52, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Folly Wildlife Rescue

Hello! Thanks for leaving a message on my talk page. I have to say, I've enjoyed writing my first article but have had very mixed reactions. Some editors think the references are fine, some seem to really like the article, but others say they do not prove notability. Judging by recent comments on its AfD page, I think the article is heading for the bin, sadly. :( Nunnsofunky (talk) 19:00, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Ariel Levinson-Waldman

Hi Cullen, thanks for the opportunity to respond to your comment on whether to retain the page for Ariel Levinson-Waldman. I suggest it be retained. First, the page is validly sourced -- an article from the Washington post, a quote from a tribute to Levinson-Waldman by members of Congress taken directly from the linked page of the Congressional Record, an article in Rollcall magazine about Levinson-Waldman's work in Congress, and cites to faculty bio website pages the websites of two established law schools where he is on the faculty -- Georgetown University Law Center and the University of the DIstrict of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. Second, I suggest that the matters of public importance described on the page that he has worked on have, contrary to one person's suggestions, been quite "notable", and will be of interest to wikipedia readers over time. Again, thanks for the discussion entry point on this. (ABW1906 (talk) 05:52, 24 February 2013 (UTC))

The coverage in Roll Call is routine local coverage. The blog mention in the Washington Post is just a passing mention related to the job and includes no biographical information. I don't see this person as notable, based on the sources I've seen so far. I suggest adding better sources, if they exist. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:10, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
The other sources you mention are not independent. Cullen328 Let's discuss it

Could you explain your reasoning behind [this edit]? --Guy Macon (talk) 21:16, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

That edit was entirely unintentional. I must have accidentally hit the rollback link while scrolling through my watch list on my smart phone. Not so smart of me or my phone. I apologize. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:50, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
Not a problem. In the old days it took days of hard manual labor to make a mistake. With modern technology it only takes the slightest finger movement, and someday we will be able to make thousands or even millions of mistakes at a time! Isn't technological progress wonderful? Online ambassador?

Hi Jim,

This is Aaron Frank. I'm the instructor for Environmental Law at USF. You were an online mentor to many of my students in 2011 and came to speak to our class. I was wondering if you would be interested in being an online ambassador for Environmental Law this semester. We had talked about it last year and I'm hoping you might be available this year as my students were very complimentary of how helpful you were in 2011.

Thanks,

Aaron — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aarf613 (talkcontribs) 05:10, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Aaron, I would be delighted to be involved with your class again, and would be more than happy to visit your classroom again if that would be useful.Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:16, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Great! I will add you to our coursepage as an online ambassador and introduce you to the students via email. And thanks for the offer to visit the class. We have a campus ambassador who will come to class but if he can't make it for some reason, it would be great to have you come. Also, the students will be doing presentations on their projects on the last session and you are more than welcome to attend it you are interested.

I'm not sure if I'm responding properly so i hope you get this message. Thanks! Aarf613 (talk) 05:28, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

If you want...

Hey, Cullen! I saw your post on Drmies's talk page (and noticed your rollback slip, too, actually). No worries, of course; happens to all of us! I have a little CSS snippet that can hide the rollback link on the watchlist but leave it intact on other pages; you could consider that as an alternative to giving up rollback entirely. Not that it's the most useful or important permission ever, but I've found it surprisingly handy at times, and almost all of my misclicks come from the watchlist only. The CSS is:

body[class~=page-Special_Watchlist] .mw-rollback-link {display: none;}

You can just copy and paste that line into your common.css page, and you should be good to go. Let me know if you're interested, and I can roll back your rollback. :) Writ Keeper (t + c) 17:50, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Writ Keeper, that is a kind and generous offer, and I will take you up on it. I didn't have a CSS page, and just started one with that code snippet. Not being a "code monkey", if you'll excuse the expression, can you take a peek at that page and see if I did it right? Thank you so much. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:03, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
Of course! I fixed the CSS a bit; you didn't need the <syntaxhighlight> bits, just the things in between them. No worries, though. :) I've restored your rollback, let me know if there's anything else I can do. Cheers! Writ Keeper (t + c) 18:18, 12 March 2013 (UTC)

Theory of Everything Publication

Dear Jim,

I handed over the theory on Monday to the University of Manchester theoretical physics department. I live in Romiley so it's only a 25 minute train ride away to Piccadilly. It's a real shame that you don't have some kind of scientific forum that new ideas can be discussed in. I'll persevere with the theory. But I wanted very much to put it out there. Even having just a few people read it and respond to it's contents is enough for me at the moment. It might be rubbish, of course, in which case it could be argued that never seeing the light of day with this is the best outcome. However, it might be true and in that case I wanted to involve Wikipedia from the outset, just for the record, you understand. I start rehearsing for 'Harvey' on Sunday and am really looking forward to the chance to play 'Elwood', maybe you're familiar with the James Stewart film of the same name. Anyway, thankyou very much for responding so quickly to my question. I just stumbled upon the section this morning and felt I had to participate. I'm very new to the encyclopedia and am learning day by day how it works, it really is complicated. Kind regards, Michael David Howells (talk) 05:20, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

I am sure that there are many forums where new theories can be discussed. Wikipedia isn't the place, unfortunately. Good luck with the play. I saw the movie many years ago, and enjoyed it. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:40, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Hey Jim,

Sorry to bug ya. I'm starting a piece on the poet Virgilia D'Andrea today and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to insert interwiki links to the Italian WP (for http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgilia_D'Andrea ). There used to be a big long list of inter-wiki links at the bottom of each page, I recall, now these seem to be invisible. Do you know anything about this? Best, —Tim . Carrite (talk) 23:19, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Tim,

It ain't bugging, because I will always try to help help when I can. The wiki computer code related stuff is not one of my strong points, but I did notice this one. My understanding is that a new project called Wikidata is supposed to automate some aspects of this process. There are instructions on how to generate the interwiki links for a new article. I haven't yet done it, so can't offer any tips. But I have noticed it happening automatically in recent weeks on a lot of articles I follow. I hope it goes smoothly for you. Take care.

- Jim Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:36, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I think the interwiki machine is broken. We'll see if anyone notices. Carrite (talk) 02:28, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Roy Maloy

Thanks for your assistance and commentary on this page. Going through a process of deleting material, only to have them repeatedly reinserted, seems futile. Your thoughts? (eg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Maloy repeated insertion of term "non-blended impressionism")

Flatoitlikealizarddrinking (talk) 04:03, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for stopping by my talk page. Roy Maloy's admirers are not the first, and won't be the last, to attempt to use a Wikipedia page for promotional purposes. I intend to keep an eye on the article and try to keep it neutral and properly referenced. It still needs work, but I think the worst of the promotional language is out. If I thought things were futile, I would stop editing Wikipedia. But I continue, and I hope you will too. You are always welcome to discuss your concerns with me. Take care. Thanks for your guidance on this article, I've learned a lot, am developing an interest in editing and enjoying the process. Thanks again Flatoitlikealizarddrinking (talk) 13:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Regarding your edits today, the reason I included Neal Hardy's record is a prior version had Maloy breaking Hardy's record, while in fact they are different records. I should have posted that on the talk page and in the edit summary, but didn't know the process then. I am pleased to see it deleted. Best wishes FlatOut 05:29, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Having dealt with him before, in my opinion, Jmh has a severe conflict of interest. He is probably a paid editor, based on the extreme positions he frequently takes, and also the extreme amount of time he spends maintaining propaganda. How can he be a practicing DR if he's always working in Wikipedia? Please monitor and help out in our Talk and actions in prostate cancer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostate_cancer#Diet_and_Lifestyle. I see you are discussing article content on the article talk page. That is very good. Please discuss any concerns you may have about the other editor on his talk page, in a friendly, respectful way. Collusion to mistreat!

I hope you are watching this [[1]]32cllou (talk) 20:53, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Edit warring is never, ever, ever the proper remedy. Edit warring will result your editing privileges being blocked. Accusing other editors of misconduct is a very bad move, in my opinion, unless you have specific, irrefutable, factual evidence of that misconduct. Even the title of this section of my talk page is problematic. I urge great caution. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:26, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

You're invited to the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon!

Help build the visual language of Wikipedia at the first ever Wikimedia Foundation/Noun Project Iconathon

The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering up with the Noun Project to run the first-ever Wikipedia Iconathon on April 6th at WMF headquarters, and you're invited!

What is an Iconathon: An iconathon is a co-design process where Wikimedia staff, the user community, and a few graphic designers collaboratively discuss what symbols could best represent a concept for an icon – for example, what's the best icon for New Editor, Revert or Oversight? Sketches will be converted into high fidelity icons by Noun Project graphic designers, and will be released under a free license for use by anyone on the Internet. Help build the free encyclopedia icon set that anyone in the world can share and reuse!

Logistics: The event runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on April 6th at the Wikimedia Foundation office in San Francisco. Follow the signs at the door! We'll have plenty of paper and pens/pencils for sketching.

How to sign up: Please register here using the code 'wiki'

Divinatory, esoteric and occult tarot

Greetings Jim, I noticed that you have been participating in the discussion on this page so I am writing here to ask you for your help in dealing with the new editor Dr.Sosteric. I tried to engage with him on the talk page of this article and he replied with a rude diatribe. He is clearly unfamiliar with wikipedia's standards and considers his own opinions the only ones that matter. I would be most gratefull for any assistance you might be able to provide. Morgan Leigh | Talk 23:25, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

I will comment in greater detail on the article's talk page, but let me ask here, since this is my talk page, that you avoid on my page the use of phrases like "rude diatribe" as that seems to me to go against the spirit of assuming good faith. My expectation is that discussion here, in the space I control, as well as everywhere on Wikipedia, which I only try to influence positively, will be characterized by friendly, collaborative interactions and collegiality. Please conduct yourself in that fashion on my talk page going forward. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:23, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Advice Polack

Hi. You seem to have taken an interest in Advice Polack, and I wonder if you'd mind participating in the discussion at Talk:Advice Polack#Let.27s_try_again. As you'll see there, one editor forcefully insists that the sources aren't reliable, but so far the discussion hasn't been very fruitful. I gave up the fight a few months ago, but perhaps you can help break the deadlock. EEng (talk) 18:06, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Although I disagree with the speedy deletion rationale, I am happy to see the article go. If the description of NIE (weekly magazine) as a publication that is "satirical" and "vulgar' is accurate, then I simply don't see how it can be used as a reliable source about a topic that has severe BLP issues. A totally innocent person is the victim of this meme, and I don't see how the meme itself can be separated somehow from the person whose face adorns it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:13, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thanks for your kind words, Cullen. In the meantime, I have discovered just how deep our well of copyright problems is, at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations, so your cheerful remarks couldn't have come at a better time. I hope you are well! As you may have gathered, spring is here--may yours be wonderful. Please give my regards to Mrs. Cullen, and to Cullen Jr. Drmies (talk) 02:13, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks again, Drmies. Spring came here in early January, so I expect either a heat wave or ankle deep sleet next week. The wife is doing well, and as for "Cullen Jr.", that would have been my dad. I am III, and my oldest son is IV, if you can believe it. Poor folks taking on the trappings of royalty. Maybe someday, Cullen V. A grandchild might be nice. James Trollope

Hi Jim,

Puzzled that you couldn't find any references to my work. The new Bluffer's Guide to Cricket which I co-wrote with Nick Yapp is widely trailed on the internet as are my articles for the Daily Telegraph etc

Best wishes,

James

Hello James, You may have misunderstood my comment. It isn't that I couldn't find references to your work: columns in The Telegraph, items about your books, and so on. I saw plenty of that. But what I couldn't find was coverage in independent, reliable sources about you as a biographical subject. For example, an article in a newspaper or magazine you don't write for, that discusses your background and accomplishments, giving significant coverage to you as the topic. The sort of sources that establish notability by Wikipedia's standards. Please feel free to produce such sources, if they exist. I have also responded on your talk page, giving links to policies and guidelines. I wish you well, and will change my opinion if I see high quality sources. Medically speaking I believe you should get tested for dyslexia. A racist Cherokee editor, OlYeller21, harassed me and you have the nerve to say I have "misbehaved badly" and I "really ought to apologize or be sanctioned in some way". Dyslexia is a real problem. Maxschweitzer (talk) 15:54, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

You shouldn't give medical advice on Wikipedia. Also, your current approach seems calculated to make it more likely that you will indeed be "sanctioned in some way". --Demiurge1000 (talk) 15:59, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Sanctioning from a bunch of bigots means nothing to me. Maxschweitzer (talk) 16:01, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for dropping by my talk page, Maxschweitzer and Demiurge1000. I hope that you both have a wonderful day, and that OlYeller21 does as well. I will ask my doctor about dyslexia the next time I see him. That should be an interesting conversation. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:30, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

You've been conscripted!

Hey Jim--

Toby Higbie of the UCLA History Dept. is going to have a course in the coming term (begins Tuesday) in which he's going to assign each person in his 100 student class to write or improve a Wikipedia article on the biography of a labor or political leader, union, or other political institution. I've told him I'd try to round up four or five sympathetic Wikipedians to be available to answer any questions the students during the term. The assignment is due May 30 and college students being college students, it can reasonably be expected that the bulk of the queries will happen in the week or two prior to that date. May I list your WP talk page as a contact address for them? Please do let me know. Best, —Tim /// MutantPop@aol.com /// Carrite (talk) 23:25, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the recent feedback on my talk page, regarding my proposed edits on the Wetback page. I understand that my current proposed edits rely heavily on the Don Young controversy; I'd like help putting together something that's actually considered acceptable. Thanks. Shelbystripes (talk) 19:28, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I would look for academic books about racial slurs using a Google Books search and/or a visit to a major library. I use the Google News Archive tool available at Articles for Deletion debates to find old newspaper articles. Just change the search terms to words like wetback, slur, racism, controversy to find coverage of earlier notable incidents. I will look a bit tonight. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:35, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) For example, there's an article in today's Los Angeles Times entitled "For Latinos, a Spanish word loaded with meaning" that discusses the history of the word (and its Spanish near-equivalent mojado) and discusses how its meaning and (un)acceptability have evolved over the decades. --Arxiloxos (talk) 20:24, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Can you please describe how you see the shortcomings in U2 related articles? Our goal is to make the encyclopedia better. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:54, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Some related articles are poor of information or don't exist. For instance: Eve Hewson or Morleigh Steingber- Edge's wife, Adam Clayton,Larry Mullen, Cedars of Lebanon, and a long etc

Miss Bono (zootalk) 17:01, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

  • (talk page stalker on Miss Bono's page replying here to your comment) I believe she either has a slow internet connection, or she needs guidance in how to do some research for information herself. Possibly both. It would do well to explain her how to search for references and stuff. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:31, 4 April 2013 (UTC) (TB please!)
Thanks for your input, TheOriginalSoni, and I understand your point. I have offered to mentor Miss Bono, and am now trying to encourage her to focus on a single useful objective, rather than just bouncing around. As I see it, that is especially important when online access is limited, so that precious time is spent improving the encyclopedia, as opposed to perfecting a cool signature. I am willing to help her learn productive research skills. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:44, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Just while we are on the same page, I'll also suggest you don't rain on her parade while she realises about this world of Wikipedia. I certainly wanted those flashy nice signatures the first time I saw them. Now that I think of it, maybe I didnt, but that's irrelevant to the point I'm making. I see her as a trying-to-be-productive and wanting-to-have-fun editor who could turn out to be a very good editor in the future. It might be also worth considering what she wants to know or do - to learn about the Wikipedia community or to learn about editing. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:55, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

If you believe that I am "raining on her parade", then I am happy to step aside and let other editors work with her. I am 61 and work on improving the encyclopedia. She says she is 18 and loves U2. I like U2 and rock music and have spent time in Cuba and Ireland. I am willing to collaborate and mentor but for me, the encyclopedia comes first whenever I am logged in as "Cullen328". Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:13, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

No. I dont believe anything. All I wanted was to give you an obligatory heads up, which I did. Now I believe you have way more experience than me in doing what you do, and so I wont say anything on that.
Have a good day, and cheers!
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:22, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
What's the point if I am 18 or I love U2, does that mean I am not mature enough?? or that I don't care enough about Wikipedia?? You are wrong, I'm not that kind of superficial girl. I don’t want to be a burden on you, so if you think I'm not focus enough on Wiki you can just step aside and I won't bother you. Let me know.

PS:If I had acces to google I wouldn't be asking at the teahouse or working on my signature and my user page. I only have access to wikipedia at work and here is not Internet it's Intranet. internet is at home, and is very slow and expensive... Sorry if there's nothing I can do. Maybe I'll step aside from Wikipedia  Miss Bono (zootalk) 12:17, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Let me be clear, Miss Bono. I am not saying that you aren't mature enough to be a wonderful contributor to Wikipedia. I was pointing out the big age difference between us, but also pointing out things we have in common. I am also not criticizing your interest in U2, since I think they are one of the top 20 rock bands ever, in my opinion. Far better than many of the newest teen sensations. Now that I know that you can't even access Google the same way you access Wikipedia, I understand your limitations better. I can do Google research and post information in a shared sandbox. We can work on article together. How does that sound? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:22, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Sounds great!! Let me know when you are available ;D...

PS: I am proud of my love for U2   Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:30, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Have you learned how to format references, and start a ref list? If so, you can work on that. And let's keep our conversation on that page in the future. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:10, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

While it is appropriate for the subject to supply a photo, it is NOT appropriate for Wikipedia to supply a free webhosting site for their hagiography. The content and tone of the previous version was and is completely unacceptable for an encyclopedia. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 03:52, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

I have taken a much closer look at the edit history of the article, and now I am confident that the article is much better as a result of your efforts. Thank you, and the subject can suggest further improvements on the talk page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:18, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Invitation to WikiProject Breakfast

Hello, Cullen328.

You are invited to join WikiProject Breakfast, a WikiProject and resource dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of breakfast-related topics.

To join the project, just add your name to the member list. Northamerica1000(talk) 22:51, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello Northamerica1000, I have tomorrow's breakfast already planned. Home brewed coffee with an ample splash of half and half. A smallish glass of orange juice. A breakfast sandwich consisting of a toasted whole grain English muffin, one egg gently fried over easy, a vegetarian sausage patty, and a slice of gooey organic American cheese. Call it a politically correct McMuffin. We will be on the road early to visit an art museum, and then later attend a speech on the history of religion from an atheist perspective. I will maintain NPOV through it all. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:13, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
The dish is almost vegetarian, except for the half-and-half, cheese and egg. It would still qualify as a lacto-ovo vegetarian dish, though! Northamerica1000(talk) 03:40, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
I just noticed that you signed on, and welcome to the new project! Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 03:43, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, it is of course delightful to have tomorrow's breakfast menu psychoanalyzed by someone who drops in on one's talk page. But, on the other hand, I freely and willingly provided you with the ammunition. So, I hope that you will enjoy your undisclosed breakfast. The first thing that comes to my mind is Israeli breakfast. I haven't yet done the research, but suspect that a halfway decent article is quite do-able. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:39, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Check this out: "Smart Mouth: The delectable nature of Israeli breakfast". The Washington Post. Sounds nice. Maybe I'll plan on preparing one in the near future! Cheers, Northamerica1000(talk) 05:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Also, on the project's talk page, a discussion has commenced regarding the notion of creating a History of breakfast article. See: this link. Northamerica1000(talk) 05:30, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
You are on a roll. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:10, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

Kenny Anderson(basketball)

Zagalejo locked the page and of course reverted it to his version. That is a very bias action.
We were going back and forth over the article. Info I added Zagaeljo didnt like and would remove.
When I asked why, Z said it wasnt sourced. Did Z make any attempts to source? not all all! Z just repeatedly reverted. I solely found sources for the information. And yet that still wasnt good enough for Z.
All information I added is cited from washpost, nypost, latimes, and court documents. Z may not like that the info shows that kenny was reckless and an adultery but that is fact.
Wiki doesnt hide the affairs of Elizabeth taylor, not Ingrid Berman nor Angelina jolie, so why should Kenny get a pass ?
A neutral 3rd party needs to intervene. Thank You. 71.191.244.33 (talk) 17:01, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

It is not Wikipedia's role to portray a person as "wreckless" or that he is guilty of "adultery". Wikipedia is not a tabloid or a gossip website. Our biographies should be overviews of a person's entire life and career, and not give undue weight to negative gossip. Accordingly, an article about a movie star should cover mostly their acting and roles. And one about an NBA player should mostly be about basketball. We don't dwell on titillating personal details. There are plenty of other websites for that. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:37, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Taylor and Bergman are dead so WP:BLP does not apply. There is one paragraph in Angelina Jolie about the scandal when she got involved with Brad Pitt. One paragraph in a very lengthy biography with 138 references that quite properly focuses mostly on her film career. Please read WP:UNDUE. also please realize that the fact that Wikipedia may have poor content in article A and B, is not an argument for adding poor content to article C. Instead, we work to improve A and B, and protect C from bad edits if need be. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:48, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Giving back

When I first started writing, three different for profit agents (for Corporations) and one non-profit (Consumer Reports) solicited me by email to work FOR THEM. When I read articles where I have depth of knowledge, I find great bias in favor of financial interest over scholarly review. You are wrong to say in effect then just give up. Jmh649 is at it again! I have been very fortunate in life, and am proud to give back via wikipedia. But, I have found at least two writers (I now find are Administrators) who have caused factual harm to content. Now I ask again, isn't there a body within wikipedia or it's Foundation that monitors for conflict of interest?32cllou (talk) 18:00, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

The place to have conflict of interest charges against specific editors investigated is the Conflict of interest noticeboard. Simply being a physician, or saying that one is a physician, does not establish a conflict of interest regarding a medical topic. You have to have very strong evidence of misconduct, and please be aware that conflict of interest editing that improves the encyclopedia is not forbidden, though it is subject to heightened scrutiny. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:27, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
